Washington is finalizing a trade to acquire Denver's Will Barton and Monte Morris for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Ish Smith, sources tell ESPN.
KCP is becoming the Danny Green of the 20s - everybody wants him until about six months after they have him. terrible trade for the Rockheads unless it clears needed cap. even then. And, dang - Morris was the guy i was hoping the Celts would get as a turnover hedge

By the way, what are your thoughts on Max Christie (Lakers aside)?
sounds like a name for Bad News Barnes' mustachioed procurer in the 70s

Bad teams will want to stay bad one more year for a shot at Wembanyama
speaking of names, cant wait for SWC to have his way with that moniker

I think I’m all in on Isaiah Hartenstein.
that must hurt

ETA: with the last one, i was gonna try "folks in Miami have come up with something to help people addicted to Hartenstein. it's called Yurtseven" but i thought it might be too obscure

Watched the first half.  Started out with Chet Holmgren vs. Wembanyama but they weren't really head to head for most of the half.  I think I outweigh both of them combined, but they are both very long and can move and shoot.

Wembanyama looked better than Chet.  Had 16 pts, 5 rbs & 4 blocks in the 1st half.  Showed some good rim running and pick and pop skills.  You can't let him go untouched anywhere near the rim and you can't leave him open at the 3 pt line.  His footwork and timing on some of his blocks looks very nice.  With his slight frame, he was easily moved off of his position but his ridiculous reach made up for it on several rebounds.

Dude looks legit and with a few thousand more sandwiches in him he could be something great.

Brunson to the Knicks sounds like it's a done deal.

Hate that he was ready to sign the same 4 year/$55 million that Finney-Smith signed last year, but management didn't know what it was going to take to get rid of Porzingis and had to wait.

Good luck to him in New York. Still think his better basketball move (and money move) would be to stay in Dallas.

Abso-freakin-lutely.  I get that he wants to work with his Dad, but basketball-wise he's better with Luka in Big D.

by my reckoning, the steady li'l guy is the 23rd best PG presently operating (i did not count Lonzo Ball, Terry Rozier, Westboogie, DLo, Conley, Maxie, RJax, Wall,  Giddey or Fultz ahead of him, tho some could). 25% of budget to attract 30-percentile onball talent to the Greatest City in the World?

While this is probably true, I can't fault the guy for wanting to try to be the main guy/ball handler on a team. A lot of people want raises and promotions.

The Atlanta Hawks are trading Danilo Gallinari and multiple first-round picks to the San Antonio Spurs for All-Star guard Dejounte Murray, sources tell ESPN.

The Hawks are sending three first-round picks and a future pick swap to the Spurs to pair Murray with All-NBA guard Trae Young, sources tell ESPN.

You're probably right.  And I suppose the Knicks have some nice young talent (Barrett, Quickley, etc.) with a mix of vets like Randle.  He fits.

The Hawks are sending a 2023 first-round pick via Charlotte, and their own 2025 and 2027 first-round picks to the Spurs in the deal, sources tell ESPN. Spurs will also get a pick swap in 2026.

I wish so badly that Dallas had found a way to get in on that. Murray is everything that's actually worth $25M a year.

Theyre calling the Spurs' move the first salvo in the WamBamMama Sweepstakes. Can billion dollar orgs be that stoopit?!
Tankers: Spurs, Thunder, Rockets, Pistons, Magic. Maybe Pacers.

There will likely be some that switch mid-season but hopefully we’ll have a competitive league this year.

Murray has 2 years left on his deal, but no way in 2024 will you get him for 25 million. He is a max guy or close to it, like Tobais Harris, Jrue Holiday, etc.

The Kings declined donte divincenzo‘s QO so yeah, they are still doing inexplicable things. I think he’ll be a nice pickup for someone.

Yeah I agree. i don't think that's what I was implying. It was meant more as a dig that it's insane to pay Jalen Brunson that amount.

That would scare the crap out of me if I was a Sixer fan.
from bobby marks:

“The sweet spot on a new Harden contract starts in the $37-38M range for this season.

That would give Philadelphia room below the $157M hard cap to use the $10.5M midlevel and $4.1M biannual exception.

Ex: 4 years/$166M with $10M guaranteed in year 4 for the salary he gave back.”

So maybe PJ tucker and another signing plus trade tobias/thybulle for a legitimate 3 coming.

Nobody should be paying that much for Harden anymore come his next contract. Same goes for Russ and Kyrie (for different reasons...namely, he's a psycho).

As the kids would say that is scary AF

It’s even worse when you add it to the fact that they received Donte in a trade for Bagley - the guy they drafted ahead of Luka/Trae/JJJ etc.

I wouldn't touch any of the 3. If I was above my GM and he had even hint of bringing one of these guys in I'd fire him on the spot.

meh, that ship had sailed - we were happy to get anything back for Bagley at that point. I’m stunned the Pistons are rumored to be interested in paying him $10 million per.

Getting Brunson thoughts down in advance:

I think if I were the GM, I would pay him up to $18M/yr or so. It's a tough sell for me to go a lot beyond that, but I do see the arguments - mainly that we can't spend the money elsewhere due to cap, so if Cuban is willing to spend it, you may as well. So it's not the end of the world to go to like $25M for Dallas. I think it's insane to go that high as NYK. At least in Dallas, as we catch up on our picks each year, suddenly $25M is a really nice salary to add to something if someone comes open an wants to play with Luka.

Brunson's difficulty, for me, is similar to Chris Paul in that it is very difficult to be good defensively at 6 foot nothing in the NBA. He's a great finisher, but that's also harder in the playoffs. He was mediocre to bad most of the Phoenix series, and he was good maybe 1-2 games vs GS. We're making a lot out of beating up on the Jazz, who only have Rudy and a bunch of horrible defenders.

It's a tough spot. I think if I were in the GM seat, I'd keep him if Cuban told me we needed to and money was no object, but it wouldn't be the end of the world to let him go. I have to wonder if Dinwiddie, Hardy's potential, and some of the guys who always slip through the cracks are all better ways to build the roster.

Every year it seems like the Mavs are willing to make moves, but continue to miss out on players. Do players not like Mark Cuban (I thought they did) or the organization as a whole. Luka with no help what so ever.

I don't see how this is reflective of reality at all?

maybe the issue is that luka forces everyone around him to speak czeckeslovackean and truthfully even though a lot of nba players talk about effort and attitude not many of them have what it takes to go through a rosetta stone course and learn to speak the language of basketball take that to the bank brohans

What is going on with the Suns and Ayton? I don’t get it, he’s a good player.

True mystery

Williams seems like the most congenial player's coach out there.

Ayton and Monte just aren't meshing for who knows why*

*Besides the lack of effort/benching thing in Game 7

As I think about the NBA, unless you have THAT GUY, none of the rest of this really even matters.  And how many teams have THAT GUY?  Maybe ten?

Seems like a guy the Magic should be in on. Lots of cap space and assets to move.

Mavs continue to get 2nd tier free agents who were once thought to amount to something but got to the Mavs and failed, maybe it is poor scouting/GM: Porzingis. Hardaway Jr. Deandre Jordan. Harrison Barnes. Wes Matthews. Dwight Powell. Devin Harris. J-Rich. Dennis Smith Jr. Courtney Lee. The list goes on. At least they kept Dirk around for 20+ years with his shaky knees-at least that was respectable.

Can you imagine paying Hardaway Jr 21+ million and Bertans 16 million last year.

So the other 20ish teams should just give up? Plus every decade or so one of these teams come out of no where and win a title.
