Abram: maybe he excels in a safety/LB tweener, wildcard kind of role in the Graham D, in which case, "let's talk"
jacobs: long term deal going to be worked on before end of this league year.

The only one that there was a chance on picking up the option on was Jacobs but if I was asked to make a bet, I would have put my money on it not happening. The track record for NE has always been to have a stable of RB's with skillsets they use in different ways according to gameplan. When was the last time NE invested heavily in one RB? This offseason seems to pan out like the usual MO of NE teams with concern to RB's. Based on that, I expect them to carry 6 RB/FB.
Cle and Abram were not getting extensions based on performance to date.
I wouldn't be surprised for them to work on extensions or try to resign in the offseason or even brining back in FA.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cle is used more inside unless we add some another pass rushing DT. This GM, HC, and DC (I assume OC) put a huge premium on flexibility and ability to play multiple positions/roles. Cle has that ability though it hasn't been used much.

That said, trading back 4 and getting a 4th then picking up what looks like a good prospect for our OL is pretty good.

I haven’t been following too closely. Do you mean extra 5 rd picks? NFL.com shows the Raiders holding a single 4th round pick.

They got 169 which is a 5th. They have one 4th and now three 5th rounders.

It’s the raiders. Have you not been paying attention? For the last 20 years? It could have been a punter or a kicker. Not really positions of need.

I skipped ahead in the PFF YouTube stream to Raiders pick. They had him 67 on their board.

I know nothing about Parham other than what I am reading in scouting reports but he seems like a good pick. 51 starts in college (51!!!

He can play tackle buy clearly projects to the interior line in the NFL, probably a guard I'm Vegas unless James regresses. He could be a starter right away but more likely he will back up Good &...whoever is the other starting guard initially. Nice depth pick with legitimate starter upside.
The thing I like most about the pick is it suggests the new coaching staff believes they have their RT in house, presumably Leatherwood. Unless of course they make another move there after clearing cap space in June.

I wouldn’t read too much into the pick. It could as simple as BPA. They likely believe they can improve Leatherwood’s pass pro technique, as all coaching staff believe they can improve a player if they coach them up. I remain skeptical. Never a bad thing to have depth at oline tho.

From some scouting time, Zamir seems like the typical NE back where he fills a role within a stable of backs. He has a very specific skill set and excels in that. He seems limited in the pass game and pass pro but has good build, strength and runs hard.
I see him as insurance for early downs if Jacobs gets knicked up again and an option for short yardage situations. Could potentially end up pushing Jacobs out the door if Jacobs is too expensive to extend/resign.
The backs on the roster now are:

I wouldn't put it past them to carry 7 backs total but 6 seems to be the normal roster comp from the past NE rosters. Smith has the hardest route to make the roster followed by Ragas now.

Neil Farrell looks like a good pick. Space eating NT that graded out well on the pass rush too. I see one report calling him the 'best NT in the draft'.

Miller/Parham/James/Good/Leatherwood or based on how well or not Leatherwood developed, flip Good and Leatherwood.

I am not sure how much stock to put into PFF grades but was John Simpson that bad?
He's only 24, has the college pedigree and is entering his third season with 17 consecutive starts under his belt. Shouldn't there be some optimism that he takes a jump in year three?

Re: raiders declining the option on Abram, it’s a bummer from a FF perspective, but I get it RL.
He wasn’t great in coverage so he was targeted often, and he’s a good tackler. I loved him last year, and he proved me right with beastly FF numbers (until he got hurt, of course).
Great FF DB, not a great football DB, though he was better in the new role as a box safety than the way they used to use him.
I still think they should blitz with him more.

I absolutely agree. I hope Graham deploys him in a similar way that Seattle uses Jamal Adams.
Have him spy QBs, track RBs out of the backfield, patrol the short/mid middle and get upfield after the QB.

I am not putting that lineup in as a lock. Simpson, Bars and even Parker are possible to be in the mix. A rookie 3rd rounder is definitely not going to be handed a starting role. It will be a competition. I am just saying what my gut is telling me after doing some digging on Parham.

You have to go over his career....
Injuries have taken him off the field.
His first DC was not good at gameplaning or teaching the scheme. He played lost a lot (like pretty much every other player under Guenther).
His second DC simply does not use safeties to blitz or blitz much at all. He played better but still not to a level of taking the option.
As you pointed out, his weakness is coverage. I think if you use him correctly... as more of the LB/S hybrid that defenses are heading to where you don't ask him to cover players much but keep him in or close to the box and when in coverage ask him to be the bracket in a double team then he can be very effective.
Obviously when taken, it was expected his coverage skills would improve... they haven't. He can be an effective S in this league, if used correctly.

yeah - I agree. I hope the Raiders can find a way to keep him with revised expectations. I do think he’s a very good football player. He’s just not the guy the prior regime thought they drafted.

I love Zamir's athleticism, but people smarter than I have been dogging him for the past two weeks. I don't know, but Spiller seems like a back that separated himself at a younger age.
Gut check: I'd go Spiller just because he commanded a backfield in the SEC and he's a bit younger, but Spiller's testing was so bad that one wonders...

It should be noted that White was the #1RB prospect coming out of high school. He suffered two bad knee injuries so it took him time to comeback. He started to flash the skills that earned him the high grade coming out of HS late last season.
He has great size and weight for the position. His teammates in college nick named is Zeus. Don’t be surprised if he competes for touches.
