Adams is the kind of player worth a 1st and 2nd. That said, I was looking forward to seeing what this new regime was going to do with those draft picks.
Guess we’ll have to wait til the 3rd round this year, and next year we’ll see what they do with the 1.32 pick.

I am still on a high for getting Adams. Beyond adding the top weapon in the NFL to a group of stacked weapons the one area we have not been good at, even with very good offensive play, has been red zone TD's. Adams ability to release makes him a total nightmare in the red zone.
I am still a little surprised that McDaniels went away from Ingold, who is a very good FB adept at all aspects, for Johnson. Johnson is a better option for blocking but not as versatile which I would have thought McDaniels would favor. However, Johnson should make Jacobs more effective, which now with Adams along with the rest of our air game makes defending us hard to do, to put it as an understatement.
We have so many ways to attack a defense. Running game with Jacobs or Drake (with each able to catch out of the backfield), pass catching RB's of Bolden and Ameer... one bigger and one smaller... two tight ends. Ine being arguably the best catching TE in the league. The number one WR in the league, a top 3 slot guy (really second best up against Kupp), a hopefully continuing to develop Edwards (who shined when Ruggs was on the field), a speedy Hollins and a QB that has proven accurate and able to throw deep.
McDaniels so far has shown no sign of what I have feared with the prospect if hiring him. There is no doubt about his ability to put offenses together and he has all the pieces (though yes, we would like to see the Oline bolstered).
On defense, I like whay I have learned and heard from Graham. I am looking forward to seeing gameplans that are tailored to the tram we are playing and noticeable adjustments at half. Something we haven't seen since... I don't know when. I still very much want Gilmore. If we get that then hopefully we can add a couple of DT's that would get some pressure up the middle while Jones and Crosby terrorize the edge. A rotational edge pass rusher is also needed as well as some guys in the LB corps but having Chandler and Maxx is a dang good starting point.
So amped now for this season. Honestly, with the Dolts doing what they did early and then the Donkeys getting Wilson... it was like man... we will need every break to go our way this season... now, it is a nasty division but we are in this fight without any doubt.

Pretty funny that they graded a mock draft. It would be nice to get a grade of A-, but who knows who is going to be there in the third round and later. It's hard enough trying to figure out the first round.

Regarding the Deshaun Watson trade I Love this bit from Mary Kay Cabot (via PFT) who has been the Browns beat reporter for the Cleveland Plain Dealer forever.
...the Browns actually did intend to pivot back to Mayfield after missing out on Watson, and that they were moving on from Mayfield only if they could get someone like Watson, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, or Derek Carr. Mayfield, per Cabot, wasn’t on board with that.
People around the league are much higher on Carr than the average Joe.

So Deshaun is getting $46 mil/year for the next 5 years, fully guaranteed.
I have no problem if the Raiders do an identical structure (maybe $40-45 mil/year). The cap impact diminishes every year as the cap goes up, and it will. It should make him happy with no potential monkey business on voidable years and all that.
He's older so it doesn't have to be five years, although why not?, but three for $135 or four for $180 would be great.

Carr may not have the talent of Mahomes, Rodgers or Herbert. But his character and leadership qualities are off the charts.
Wilson whines his way out of Seattle, Rodgers whines and complains so much, his only WR has enough of his BS and bails.
Whenever times get tough, Mayfield shows his immaturity. We all know Watson's issues...
Even Mahomes has to deal with issues his family members have caused.
Carr is the rock of this franchise, he is talented enough to win a championship (see Matt Stafford), it appears McDaniels and Ziegler know this as well. Carr finally has a FO and coach with their heads screwed on straight. Finally, people in power are understanding what they have in Derek Carr, and are giving him tools he needs to take this organization to the next level.
About a week ago I advocated trading Carr only because it looked like the FO again wasn't going to give him enough help. I feel with a QB like Carr, you have to go all in or all out. I'm glad they chose to go all in.
There's a lot of work ahead, and as we all know, there's the element of surprise and unpredictability every season. But I can honestly say, this is the best I've felt about the Raiders FO in decades.

At this point in FA most everyone's asling price is going to go down. A few are in the midst of a bidding war and some will do a wait and see but the big splash mobey has mostly been spent.
I think guys like Wagner and Hightower... add in guys Hicks and Hughes might be available as cheaper vets and we fill in further with guys like Van Noy.
We ideally could use another Oline (La'el Collins makes tons of sense), and add to DT (Hicks maybe but he has been slowed health wise the last couple of years, I would like Thomas back), a rotational edge rusher (Hughes or Ingram would make sense), some LB depth (vets like Hightower or Wagner would be great) and we can say that on paper the team is complete. Go into the draft taking BPA at whatever position.
Now.... who exactly we can get at what price... that is the trick. We have spent a lot of money. They are working on Carr's extension, hopefully the reports of him taking less to get Adams were on the nose, keeping in mind guys like Renfrow and Mullens have deals yo work in too.
But overall, there is still a good amount of players that can contribute at high levels and their price tags (besides maybe a few like Gilmore) should be getting better.
As they say, "it's a copycat league ", and from what I'm seeing, it's looking like they're using the Rams playbook way more than the Pat's, like I thought they might.
Get yourself a veteran above average QB, protect him (still waiting on this part, although IMO they're only a RT away), give him elite talent around him (Adams, Waller, Renfrow, Jacobs) and let him thrive in a QB friendly offense with multiple RBs so you don't have to throw every down.
On D, you need elite pass rush, whether it's up the middle like the Rams have in Donald or on the edge, you gotta affect the opposing QBs at all times.
And finally you need at least one elite shutdown corner and 2 or 3 very good ones. IMO, this is the biggest weakness of the team right now. If they're able to land Gilmore, that'll check the "elite corner" box but they'll still need more corner depth. Gilmore, Mullen, Hobbs and Avertte is a good start, but every one of these guys missed time recently, and Hobbs needs to grow up a bit. Depth in the secondary and Dline and a RT should be the focus going forward.

I actually like our depth at CB assuming we sign Gilmore. You forgot Rock Ya-Sin and Darious Phillips... both of whom I would rank above Averett. Mullen is like getting a good FA too as he missed most of last year. Hobbs is a stud. I saw this earlier today "Nate Hobbs: 68 yards allowed in man coverage last season. Fewest among all rookie corners." (My only question is how much did he play man coverage versus the zone heavy scheme we played). As you said, get that top tier shut down in Gilmore and I think we are done woth corners unless we see a rookie ww like in the draft.
DT and LB is desperately short on depth. The good news is that there seems to be a lot of potential adds for LB. DT is going to be thin quick.
I am ok with forgoing a big add like Hughes or Ingram for that third pass rusher. Koonce flashed some potential as a rookie and we have Cle. Safety is also a place where in an ideal world we could add someone but you can't get everything in a cap NFL world.
I can't believe I forgot Rock! You're right. I still hope they address the depth in the draft

Sounds like he's questioning Leatherwoods ability to play RT which we're all questioning at this point.
Is he capable? I dunno, I'm not an NFL Oline coach. What I do know is the Raiders needed serious help at guard last year due to injury . Parker has experience at RT in the NFL, Leatherwood didn't But you can hide Leatherwoods inexperience at guard better than RT last year. Maybe this year he's capable of handling the job, I hope so because that's what he was drafted to do.

If you watched him at Bama you know the answer to the question. If you didn’t let me help, it is a resounding NO. He cannot handle NFL pass rushers like Bosa. He was constantly beat at the college level by good pass rushers. He made up for his lack of pass pro with great run blocking.
IIRC the Raiders moved him inside after the first Charger game. Prolly all they needed to see.
Admittedly, I haven't watched a ton of Bama film. But I did hear that he was a highly regarded Olinemen from said school. And he won some awards, playing RT. But that doesn't mean it translates to the NFL. I'm not a moron, nor am I an expert either. I assume you're the same. Enlighten me oh great one....

Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply you were stupid. Just frustrated that these guys can’t see what is clearly on tape. Yes, Leatherwood was a decorated player on a decorated program. Like I said he was a very good run blocker but the tape shows he doesn’t can’t move quickly laterally so he is a big liability in pass pro. I saw top end players beat him far too often in college.
What he has going for him is a great attitude and some physical skills. I think he could become an asset on the oline if he stays at guard.

Oooooooooooh yea..... CB position is done for the most part unless we add a rookie in the draft. A bona fide #1 CB, though aged, can shine in the man to man press heavy looks Graham is said to favor. Hobbs is locked in as the slot CB. Throw in Mullen, Ya-Sin, Phillips and Averett there are some players and depth there.
Dude, this off season is really pumping me up. I mean, this is beyond what I would have hoped. There was my worst fears.... then my expectation.... then my hope and this off season is blowing that away.
Ok, so, Gilmore and Collins were the two specific players I wanted and made sense for sure. We apparently have Gilmore and Collins is gone.
The priorities here is the Oline spot, DT, LB and a rotational pass rushing DE in that order in my mind. Oline... I dunno who we target now. Collins made sense because it was a clear upgrade at RT and Leatherwood could stay at RG and develop. But the options of RT are not as clear upgrades now. It is hard to say "we need to target this guy" without knowing what we are doing with Leatherwood.
DT, there are some older guys still on the market that can be rotational impact players. I would like Thomas back. Maybe we can get a guy like Richardson, Hicks or Campbell.
I am unsure of what exactly Graham wants out of a LB so I am mostly thinking NE guys and there are a few available.... Hightower, Van Noy and Collins. All are getting older but I think Graham will like older smart vets that can adapt and be versatile.
A pass rusher, someone getting older but can come in for some snaps to giver Jones and Crosby a breather... maybe an Ingram or a Hughes.
they could sign a bunch of guys that I have to look up to figure out who they are from here on out and still will count this off season as a win.

Interesting but I some of the things in the article seemed.... not thought out. This seems like something Vincent banged out because he needed an article to appease the bosses.
The things I found fault with...
Terron Armstead is not an option at T. He is a LT and is prohibitively expensive to try to make into a RT.
It really isn't a 3-4 scheme... ask Graham. I think the 'philosophy' is born out of a 3-4 as it is more versatile but Graham has made it clear, he thinks people talking in terms of 3-4 vs 4-3 is archaic. I agree. The base defense for the NFL team is what was referred to as before as the Nickle. But assuming we were moving to a 3-4 defense.... we are not only thin at LB but would be dramatically so. Even moving the DE's to OLB we would basically have 1 ILB on the team right now.
We are not trading any RB's. Jacobs and Drake are not going anywhere (Jacobs being the most talented and lead back while Drake just restructured his contract). NE pretty consistently carried 6 RB/FB on the team. We actually have 7 right now (Sutton was left off this list). Bolden, Abdullah and Johnson should make the team. Either Ragas or Sutton would be in danger of being cut. Ragas flashed some good stuff last pre-season. Sutton is a hold over signed after Ingold was hurt but overall, I expect us to carry 6 RB/FB this year.

I think it is fair to question it when McDaniels refused to put him in a position to this point. Maybe privately that have looked at the tape and decided. Publicly, they have not told us so we can't presume to know for sure.
