I think it is fair to question it when McDaniels refused to put him in a position to this point. Maybe privately that have looked at the tape and decided. Publicly, they have not told us so we can't presume to know for sure. 

And really, maybe they don't know. They didn't draft this guy.

That's one thing I am keeping in mind, that we see again and again. A new staff comes in, and all the players that the previous regime was trying to develop gets a fresh set of eyes on them. Guys like Ferrell, Abrams, Leatherwood, this coach and GM might not be as invested in their success as Gruden and Mayock. 

It's waaaay early on Leatherwood, and if turns into a good RG, it was worth the pick. Kolton Miller was getting this same kind of treatment after his rookie year. They both committed the same sin, they went to the Raiders before mock drafts said they should. Kolton Miller: Better draft pick than Derwin James, and it's not close. Kind of crazy to think that, when you remember their rookie years. 

That's not to absolve Gruyock of their terrible drafting. Moreso, I am thinking about Robert Gallery, a bad OT, who became a good OG. I could see that happening with Leatherwood, that would make him worth the pick. I just wonder if McDaniels is interested in taking on the project.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply you were stupid. Just frustrated that these guys can’t see what is clearly on tape. Yes, Leatherwood was a decorated player on a decorated program. Like I said he was a very good run blocker but the tape shows he doesn’t can’t move quickly laterally so he is a big liability in pass pro. I saw top end players beat him far too often in college.
 

What he has going for him is a great attitude and some physical skills. I think he could become an asset on the oline if he stays at guard.

To sum it up... a stud on man to man coverage, marginal in zone and not a good tackler. 

With our scheme, I will take it. Plus, with the AFC West and our offense, I will take a guy who can cover really well and not so good at tackling. The ball will be in the air a lot.

Will be interesting to compare and contrast. McDaniels made a bunch of big moves in his time with DEN. Those didn't go over that well. He's already made a couple of splashy moves in LV that BB wouldn't do (giving big money to guys heading onto their 30s).

Adams' deal is really 3 years for $67.5M. Don't see him playing two more years for an additional $72.5M.  Not sure Jones is worth 3/$51 at 32 years old, but we'll have to see how both these moves turn out.

I believe that a majority of FA signings are just swapping deck chairs on the Titanic.

Ok... Littleton, I was stoked about and it was a total failure. He was totally lost under Guenther (most players were) and I am not sure why there was only marginal improvement under Bradley. 

Trent Brown was injuries really (and bad attitude?) When on the field and healthy, he was dominant. 

Kwiat was injury and then also completely bad scheme fit under Bradley. 

Yes, FA can be big dudes but honestly so is the draft. Injuries, bad scheme fits, personality clashes, etc can derail things for FA but also for draft picks. 

There are few additions that "fit" more than Adams with the Raiders. Carr/Adams best buds plus time playing together. McDaniels with a long track record of making WR's with different skillsets successful and none as talented as Adams. Carr ability to get the ball out quickly and accurately in short routes and Adams one of the best ever in release from the line. The weapons around Adams in both other targets and the running game to keep attention off him. I mean, really, how many other additions to a team point to success than this one?

I think the moves they have made this off-season suggest the new staff, at least, finds the current o-line unit acceptable.

parker and ele are backups at best.  Parker is really really marginal. I’m being nice for Chad. (He sucks) The oline was NOT GOOD last year. And they’ve signed one new guy, a Jack of all trades dude. Same on the d line.  They’ve signed 1 guy that has had any playing time and let most of last years crew walk. I hope they bring back Thomas.

Rookie Alex Leatherwood posted a meager 29.0 pass-blocking grade, allowing a league-leading 65 pressures at right tackle and then right guard. 

Two different players allowed eight sacks individually, and only Miller earned a run-blocking grade better than 65.0. It’s remarkable that the Raiders made the postseason with this offensive line.

One other point on Adams and even though he was a trade and not a FA.....  Yes, it's true that a lot of free agent signings do not work out.  In many cases the team they are departing did not want them back especially at the price they were signing elsewhere for.  Green Bay wanted Adams back at the price the Raiders paid if not more and it was just that he wanted to leave.

We will see, however the point isn't exaggerated. I am too lazy to audit all the past Raider free agent signings but I do know that very few have worked out as anyone had hoped. And this is true for every team. 

I just hope the acquisition for Adams  works out better than the last two Packer WR acquisitions (Walker and Nelson)

Don't forget James Jones.

The point wasn't you were wrong about previous acquisitions, most were outright bad. To be fair Trent Brown was absolutely dominant his first season in Oakland but he predictably turned into what he always was, a non-maximum effort guy who can't (won't?) stay healthy.

The only point is the Raiders simply have never brought in a guy like Adams in their recent history (ever?). Prime age, coming off five consecutive pro bowls & two 1st team all-pros. It's comparing to

I was surprised at the 81 as well. I could be wrong. Bengals brought him back at 2.3M before signing Collins. Now they’re waiving him. I’m probably wrong.
