Graded very well last year in about 1/5th the full-time snaps he played in 2020. That year he was awful.

Kolton Miller was impressive for the Raiders at left tackle, earning an 84.2 PFF grade and marks of at least 76.6 as a run-blocker and a pass-blocker. He allowed 34 pressures from 730 pass-blocking snaps, but he was the lone ray of light in the darkness. Rookie Alex Leatherwood posted a meager 29.0 pass-blocking grade, allowing a league-leading 65 pressures at right tackle and then right guard. 

Two different players allowed eight sacks individually, and only Miller earned a run-blocking grade better than 65.0. It’s remarkable that the Raiders made the postseason with this offensive line.

I would bet that if you took the second half of the year James grade would be significantly higher. I am not worried about James. 

I was disappointed in Simpson last year. He didn't develop. Both him and Parker are backups and not starter quality. 

Leatherwood is the big question mark. What position and will he develop? 

We still have Good and he is good. Ideally G (not sure if he has played LG or not) but can and has played RT decently well. 

 
^^^That's not the guy you trust as Carr's starting RT. Developmental backup, maybe. Relying on him or Parker to start would be a huge and sketchy dice roll at a critical position for this otherwise super expensive offense. Collins wasn't the answer, but there are several 30 something vet RTs still out there looking for jobs. Convince one of them to take a discount to play for a stacked offense.

Those grades are all over the place. One year, good at pass blocking and sucking at run. Then sucking at both. Then sucking at pass but good at run blocking.

Agreed that James' 2nd half was MUCH better and he played like an above-avg NFL starter during that what-have-you-done-for-me-lately stretch. That said, until he stacks that with an early-season repeat showing this coming year, I have at least some worry about him. Seen way too many players ascend in years past and then not hold that new level. Hopefully, he's ready to become the rock every good OL needs at C.

Remaining OL (sans Miller) is even more worrisome, as you noted. They better find some gems, coach these guys up and find a way to keep them healthy b/c Carr plays best when he trusts his OL - making something out of broken plays isn't his strength.

Main standout for me was that in his one year of full-time play, he sucked all around. No context behind that (was he playing hurt or for a bad coach/OL, etc.?) - so grain of salt for the guy, but those 2020 scores are awful.

Though not a rookie, playing time wise that was basically his rookie season. He showed development and and growth. I have very little concern. Is it the same level of confidence in a vet who has a couple of seasons of high level play? No. But he showed enough on the back half of the season (at one point, graded as one of the best over that stretch) after a very concerning and honestly atrocious first half for me to expect that and better play moving forward.

I think 2 TE is a thing this year. Pats used it for years. If an interesting TE fell to the team, I could see them drafting one. I could see Moreau becoming a favorite of McD as well. 

There's so much wide open football in the AFC this year, I could see McD wanting to bang it out a bit more than some expect. Wear some defenses down, two TE sets, winning games in the 4th quarter.

Butler joined the Bills on a two-year, $16 million contract in 2020. He was coming off a career year with the Panthers but failed to keep up the success in Buffalo. After recording 6.5 sacks in 2019, he did not take down an opposing quarterback once in 24 games with the Bills. Pro Football Focus graded him as a poor run-defender in 2021 as well. The interior of Las Vegas's defensive line is particularly weak, so Butler should be able to find a rotational role in his new home. However, he projects as a placeholder for a potential rookie added in the upcoming draft.

Well... that isn't exciting. Sounds like a body with upside and expectedly with a low price tag.

The 27-year-old spent the last six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft. He caught 25 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns in 2021.

Robinson's production last year dipped a bit as he fell behind Mecole Hardman and Byron Pringle in Kansas City's passing game. He caught 77 passes for 915 yards and seven touchdowns between 2019 and 2020.

Robinson has yet to miss a game throughout his career, and he has been a reasonably steady target. Per Pro Football Reference, he has only three dropped passes since 2018. That kind of consistency can be valuable.

With this move, the Raiders likely put the finishing touches on their passing game ahead of the 2022 season.

I like the signing. Big, big dude former first round pick and 28 years old. With Maxx & Jones on the outside, there is potential for a good inside rush.

I was going to say about him... hasn't got a ton of opportunity but when he has had the opportunities, he doesn't let them pass him by. There were a couple of games he has gone off. It is a good depth addition. Plus, intel on the Chef offense isn't a bad thing.

The FA options have thinned at both RT and G. There are some vets that could work but how much do you pay versua what we get? 

If camp shows Leatherwood can play RT then Good at RG and then Leatherwood at RT is solid, assuming Simpson and James continue to develop and of course we can always count on Miller holding things down. If not Leatherwood at RG and Good kicked to RT is an upgrade over Parker last year.

The point wasn't you were wrong about previous acquisitions, most were outright bad. To be fair Trent Brown was absolutely dominant his first season in Oakland but he predictably turned into what he always was, a non-maximum effort guy who can't (won't?) stay healthy.

The only point is the Raiders simply have never brought in a guy like Adams in their recent history (ever?). Prime age, coming off five consecutive pro bowls & two 1st team all-pros. It's comparing 🍎🍏 to 🚀🚀

Ummm, I really don’t recall making many calls, let alone bad calls in this thread. Maybe it is old age, but remind of a few of these bad calls.

Your defense of Brown is forgivable since you are President of the Raider club, but the bottom line is Brown didn’t work out. Period. Frame it however you want but his performance did not equal his pay check.

You're spot on. I don't think the Oline is as bad as some make it out to be. Yes, it's lacking depth in the interior but that can be addressed through the draft and free agents. 

We are counting on two big "ifs" though. If Good comes back strong we're set at RG. And if Leatherwood develops into the RT Gruden envisioned, then he'll lock down that position for years to come. I will say this about Gruden, he did have a pretty good eye for drafting Olinemen, going all the way back to John Stinchcomb. Sure, Al Davis was alive at the time and had final say but that draft pick certainly fits Gruden's tendency for drafting developmental Olinemen in the 1st round going all the way back to the late 90s.

Also, the fact that Ziegler and McDaniels didn't see the Oline as a huge priority in free agency tells me they at least like what they see in the personnel. Or at least they feel they have a solid group to work with.

I wasn't talking about any calls you made. I was agreeing that many Raider FA signings we're bad, Brown too. He performed at a very high level, got hurt, turned back into the pumpkin he has always been and left with all of Mark Davis's money.

Lot's of IFs. 

Pretty much every football off season is a bunch of ifs. 

Another thing about NE over the years has been fielding good olines.... so here is to IFs!

Addressing RT and DT is a must.   The draft may be the answer to the concerns.

One thought I had when first hearing this was WHAT IF part of the Raiders decision to trade for Adams and give him a fat contract was to create discord between the Chiefs and Hill? That would be some serious next level thinking. 

I am prolly giving the FO too much credit.

I don't know if was an intended consequence but if it leads to Reek being shipped out of the division I'm happy to give the credit to Ziegler & McDaniels.

It's a double-edged sword really. GM Veach has been killing it in drafts the past few years. Giving that guy more draft picks than he already has doesn't doesn't bode well. But its Tyreek, so I guess I wouldn't mind if he left and take my chances that Veach finally misses on a couple picks.

Say what you will about The Freak, but this is a haul for the Chiefs, especially when you include the cap relief.

The Dolphins are giving up a first-round pick, second-rounder and fourth-rounder in 2022 along with fourth-and-sixth-rounders in 2023, per ESPN. Miami immediately signed Hill to a four-year, $120 million extension with $72 million guaranteed, ESPN.com reported.

Hill, 28, has been a Pro Bowler in all six of his NFL seasons. He had a career-high 111 catches in 2021 with 1,239 yards and nine touchdowns.

I am seeing nothing on this. The only Gilmore rumors I see is that KC is going after him. 

It would be awesome but I am not buying it. 

 
^^^ Just realized the 1st rdr the Dolphish gave up for Tyreek was not their own (#15), but one they had acquired from the Whiners (#29). Good news. Chiefs and Packers will be battling for WR talent in this draft. Packers have picks #22 and 28. Chiefs have picks #29 and 30. Would be awesome if the Pack took two WRs. :)

 
Losing Hill is KC is AWESOME. 

First and foremost, hopefully that will nudge my son away from liking KC. He is all about "fast". His favorite animal is Cheetah and loves Hill because he is the fastest. I can live with him liking the Fins if that is the exchange. 

Second... this really impacts the KC offense. I don't care what rookies they draft with their picks and sign MVS (he is in KC now) their offense takes a huge downgrade. The competent speed Hill has opened everything up. Kelce will find a lot less room to operate. Literally, I think the KC offense is now the 4th best in our division. 

With their moves, I think the Dolphins come up into the discussion of the upper echelon in this stacked AFC now.

This is more about the Jags breaking the WR market than us obtaining Adams and giving him a new contract.
