2022 Las Vegas Raiders (2 Viewers)

This off season is nuts.

That’s a lot of picks for KC. Gonna be really interesting to see how much of that insane offense was tyreek, or mahomes.  I think they are worse, but not terribly so. They’re definitely worse off for the next 2-3 years. Until all those picks are entrenched.

now, can the raiders get a RT please. And they still really need some pieces on D. :D

I usually don't post rumors from people who I don't know, but this would be awesome.

Leonardo Pagnatti Jr.

Breaking News: #Raiders are doing their due diligence on trying to acquire Tyrann Mathieu. This is why the Gilmore news is getting delayed. Gilmore has reached out to Mathieu, convincing him to come to LV. Gilmore would take less if Mathieu plans to come. #Breaking #NFL #FA
this would be amazing if it happens

🎉🎉🎉

get the feeling carr will take less on his new contract the more the team builds up the roster. especially after bringing in his homie from fresno. probably at least one more signing to get excited for.

Mahomes is a great QB. No doubt. But that offense opened up because of Hill.

Similar to how Ruggs started to do for us.

When you have competent elite speed like that along with a top weapon like Kelce (or Waller) the throwing lanes become highways.

Remember when Mahomes was out? The offense was still humming along. This is a huge loss for KC. My arrogantly so.

From Tashan Reed:

The Raiders appear to be getting low on effective cap space. The structure of Adams’ deal, according to Spotrac, counts as just an $8.2 million cap hit this season and effectively is a three-year deal for $67.5 million, with the last two years carrying huge non-guaranteed base salaries that make Adams’ annual average value the highest among NFL receivers. But still, Spotrac estimates the Raiders as having $16.59 million in cap space remaining without yet accounting for Nichols or Averett. Throw in money to cover the draft class and a budget for in-season spending and they likely have minimal space moving forward. However, once the salaries for Cory Littleton and Carl Nassib come off the books June 2, the Raiders will receive about $20 million in cap space that they could use to sign players who are still around later this offseason and boost their in-season budget. So the Raiders have enough wiggle room for a move or two.

Here’s a list of the best remaining outside free agents who fill the Raiders’ needs, fit their scheme on either side of the ball and could be had for a realistic salary. Of course, this list is subject to change and will be updated as players are signed across the league.

Stephon Gilmore, CB, Panthers

Gilmore’s asking price was too high to start free agency, but it’s dropped as his market has dried up a bit. While reports have surfaced about the Raiders’ interest, a source indicated they are not in the mix for the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He’s played just 19 games the past two seasons and will turn 32 in September. He’s still a high-level cover man who specializes in man coverage, but the Raiders don’t appear to be headed down this road.

Billy Turner, OL, Packers

The Raiders already poached one starter from the Packers, and they could target another. Throughout his seven-year career, Turner has started games at every position besides center and played well. He’d be legitimately reliable as a starter at either guard or tackle and should come at an affordable salary. Particularly if the Raiders are truly undecided about where to play Alex Leatherwood, his versatility is attractive. The Ravens gave right tackle Morgan Moses a deal worth $5 million annually this offseason, and that could be around a reasonable number for Turner.

Daryl Williams, OL, Bills

Williams is another veteran lineman capable of starting at both guard and tackle. He was rewarded with an extension after starting 16 games at right tackle in 2020, but he took a step back in 2021 and was released. That inconsistency could be concerning, but he’d still be an upgrade at either guard or tackle on a Raiders offensive line that needs help. Williams was on a contract worth $8 million annually prior to getting cut, but he’s probably in line for a pay cut.

Kyle Van Noy, LB, Patriots

Las Vegas has two starting-caliber linebackers with Denzel Perryman and Divine Deablo on the roster, but they have no depth. Cory Littleton was released last Thursday and Kwiatkoski followed suit Wednesday. Van Noy played for several years in New England, so he has familiarity with the coaching staff, and he’s a proven veteran who can play multiple linebacker positions whether the Raiders are in a 3-4 or 4-3 front. He can stop the run, rush the passer and hold up in coverage and would help fill out the linebacker corps. Perhaps he’s worth an incentive-based, one-year deal. He made $6 million annually on his last deal and should be cheaper.

Anthony Barr, LB, Vikings

Barr hasn’t played a full season since 2017, which is a concern, but he’s another versatile veteran linebacker who can be depended on to fill various roles when he’s on the field. He’d be able to help young defenders like Deablo continue to develop like K.J. Wright did last season. While he’s had injury issues of his own, he’d provide some insurance for Perryman and Deablo, who were both banged up at times last year. Barr’s lack of durability could make him more affordable, but also increases risk.

William Gholston, DL, Buccaneers

Gholston has experience playing 4-3 defensive tackle and 3-4 defensive end and posted a career-high with 4 1/2 sacks last season. He’ll be 31 this season, but he hasn’t missed a game since 2017 and should be willing to accept a role as a rotational defensive lineman at this stage in his career.

Riley Reiff, OT, Bengals

Reiff started 12 games at right tackle last season before suffering a season-ending injury, but he should still have good football in him despite being 33 years old. He’d been pretty durable prior to last season, so it could just be a one-year blip. He’s still not an answer for the future, but he could help hold down the right side of the line on a one-year deal while the Raiders figure out a long-term plan for the position.

Sheldon Richardson, DL, Vikings

Richardson is past his prime, but he can still provide a pass rush from inside. He has 33 1/2 sacks in his nine-year career and can play either 4-3 defensive tackle or 3-4 defensive end. He’s 31, but has been incredibly durable throughout his career and hasn’t missed a game since 2017.

Dont’a Hightower, LB, Patriots

Hightower is probably a two-down linebacker at this point, but he’s still an effective run stopper and hasn’t missed more than two games in a season since 2017. Graham coached Hightower directly as the Patriots’ linebackers coach from 2014 to 2015 and McDaniels was in New England for all of Hightower’s career, so there’s no shortage of familiarity. He’d be a strong backup behind Perryman.

Brandon Shell, OT, Seahawks

Shell has never played a full season and has been up-and-down when he’s on the field, but he’s a veteran starting right tackle. He’s more of a stop-gap option, but the Raiders will need some experience if they miss out on some of the others on this list.

Bryan Bulaga, OT, Chargers

Bulaga has never made a Pro Bowl or All-Pro team, but he’s been one of the better tackles in the league when healthy. The issue has been his lack of ability to fall into that category. He’s played just 11 games since 2020 and will turn 33 years old this month. This would be a dice roll, but there could be a lot of upside to securing Bulaga’s services on a short-term deal.

Trai Turner, RG, Steelers

Turner is a five-time Pro Bowler, but struggled with injuries in 2020 and had to take a discount deal last offseason as a result. He responded by starting all 17 games for the Steelers and played well. He turns 29 this summer and would provide strong value on a short-term deal. This path is only worth going down, though, if the Raiders truly believe in Leatherwood’s ability to continue to develop into a legitimate starting right tackle.

Germain Ifedi, OL, Bears

Ifedi is another versatile, veteran O-linemen. He’s started several games at right guard and right tackle and has been effective at both spots throughout his career. He only played nine games in 2021, but he’d missed just one game in the previous four seasons before that and is only going to be 28 this season. Perhaps he’s available on a prove-it deal.

Danny Trevathan, LB, Bears

Trevathan only played five games last season due to injury and will turn 32 later this month, but he was a productive linebacker as recently as 2020. He’s mostly known for his run support, but he’s OK in pass coverage and would provide some veteran depth behind Perryman and Deablo. Raiders assistant general manager Champ Kelly saw Trevathan up close both with the Broncos and Bears, so he should have a good idea of what the linebacker has left.

Ronnie Harrison, S, Browns

Harrison is a proven player who can line up at box safety, free safety and nickel, but he’s missed 10 games across the past two seasons. That’ll hurt his market value, but he’s still an effective player who will only be 25 this season and would be a great get if they can afford him.

Hopefully all Raiders fans will come to terms that Gruden was a huge mistake and failure.   His drafting and other personnel moves were a complete failure.   This team is on its way up but it is now in the most competitive division in the NFL and in a conference that has tons of talented teams.  It will be an interesting and likely exciting and entertaining season.

Gruden was a disaster from the get go. Just awful.  I might send some flowers to the league office for leaking those emails.

I wonder if Mark Davis realizes how much of a favor the NFL did him. No matter how dirty they did Gruden, which still bothers me, but that's another discussion.

Then the conspiracy theory guy in me thinks Davis leaked, or paid someone to leak those emails to get out of that ridiculous contract. I gotta say, the way he reset the franchise so quickly is impressive. Had he been planning this coupe all along?

My new favorite player I’d never heard of til now.  Sign this dude!

great post. Thanks.

I don't think it makes sense in terms of roster need and cap space. A luxury item at this point that we don't have the fun money to play with on that toy. But that is my take.

I wish I could find the tape of Parker completely whiffing his block and falling straight forward. They better get some more help on that line. :nervous:

Las Vegas Raiders@Raiders·9m

We have signed unrestricted free agent LB Jayon Brown.

#Raiders sign Duron Harmon. #RaiderNation Harmon with ties to the #Patriots

Raiders continue to sign a lot of guys we haven't heard of. Nothing against it. I assume the coaches believe they are good scheme fits.

Cap space has got to be getting low at this point, unless and until Carr signs an extension. Will get some relief at June 1 to pick up some remaining or recently cut veterans.

Harmon played really well for the Pats a couple years ago and provides good depth at safety.  Brown has played well in the past for the Titans and he might be in the mix to start at LB.

new regime thinks cable and gruden were holding up development of young linemen 👀
I remember reading thay they think Cable didn't teach how to use hands enough. I think that they do believe they can get better play out of the same guys but also... we don't have a ton of cash and there are not a lot of players that would be unquestionably upgrades over expectations of developing them further.

Interesting. OLine is gonna be key to giving Carr time to go down field and keep him healthy. I am still very concerned about RT. The Bolts with Bosa and Mack are gonna be the litmus test.

Until more money is cleared... I don't think we will see much movement beyond the bargain bin we have been buying up of guys who for one reason or another are cheap but have "potential".

I am more worried about the DT than I am the RT. Even if Parker or Leatherwood can't handle things there Good can do a well enough job there (assuming he is healthy).

Nichols has some value but the rest seem to me to be just bodies. Outside pass rushers are better or worse when they have some push coming from the inside to collapse the pocket. I am not seeing a group of guys that I have a high level of confidence in to get that done.

It would be one heck of an upgrade (if he can stay healthy, has struggled the last couple of years) to our DT. I would be very happy.

Eluemunor signed back to the roster.

Defensive back Natrell Jamerson and wide receiver Javon Wims were released while defensive back Jordan Brown, defensive tackle P.J. Johnson, and tackle William Sweet were placed on waivers.

Solomon Thomas to the Jets.
Yea, I think he is just not the type they want at DT. A little surprising as he did have time playing DE in a 3/4 based defense... whatever... I am not a fan of our DT's and think it is our weakest area on our roster. Hopefully Graham will get the most out of them. We could still make a move here but roster moves will slow down a lot as money has been spent and the focus moves towards draft prep. Hicks would make me feel much more comfortable about the group but then we would have to cross fingers he can stay healthy.

A public push for Honey Badger to sign with us from a couple of players like Maxx and even Damian Lilliard.

I still want Gilmore as my top target.

I would like some vet LB depth of the likes of Hightower or Van Noy. My guess is Wagner is too expensive.
