I think the leadership is in place. At least well enough to skip a dude who hasn’t really played in 2+ years. Using that logic, bring back incognito. Waste of a roster spot imho.
I like McCoy. I don’t like 300# dudes coming off major leg/and or back issues. See philon. Like him too. Don’t want him back either.

Meh... I am not a big fan of just discounting people automatically on whether they can play or not still without actually seeing them play or work out at least. Am I skeptical of a guy his age coming off back to back missed years from injury having enough in the tank to make hom worthwhile? Of course. Does he have the experience accumulated with technical acumen along with leadership to make him worthwhile considering over a ST cog that will bounce from PS to active to cut IF he has something left in the tank? Yes. I am not saying it's a lock but a vet min with little or no guaranteed to bring him back for the 90 man roster to see what is what? Why the hell not?

Hire him as a coach then. I am also deeply skeptical about a 34 year old, 6'4", 300 lb dude coming off multiple injuries.
Bringing back Hankins made sense but guaranteeing any money to McCoy is a questionable move IMO.

He had about $100K guaranteed last year. I am sure you could get a contract with no guaranteed money. Bring him in on the off season roster and see if he makes the cut.

Las Vegas announced on Monday that the club has signed free agent Tashawn Bower.
Bower entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of LSU in 2017 and has split his career between the Vikings and Patriots. He played games with both teams in 2021, appearing in two for New England and four for Minnesota.
In 20 career games with three starts, Bower has 22 total tackles, 2.0 sacks, and four tackles for loss.
Las Vegas also announced that tight end Nick Bowers and safety Roderic Teamer have signed their exclusive rights free agent tenders, putting them under contract for the 2022 season.
And offensive lineman Kamaal Seymour has been waived with a non-football injury designation.

the knobs will point to the out after this year. it sounds like a very smart deal for the team. and a brady-esque friendly deal, allowed by carr. win win
i hope he kills it and then restructures next year to allow for more cap space.

I don't think it is what Carr values himself at but rather his commitment to this team and there were reports thay he would take a more team friendly deal to get Adams on board (he also apparently promised a car to Adams).
Aside from the football side of things, it should be easily agreed by all that he is an authentic person who is not driven by material things. I don't think it is just "PR talk" when he talks about wanting to be a Raider his whole career. When he says things, I always take it at face value, because he isn't playing the business game here. He is just being who he is. I think that is why the entire team was bought into him as the leader. When he went down last season where it looked like he might be hurt, you could see the concern of the entire team and not in the "oh crap, that is our starting QB" but in the "that is my guy!" type of concern.
It sounds like a deal that is out together to get give this team the ability to do what it needs to win because Carr wants to win and win as a Raider.
We are lucky to have him in Raider Nation. Hopefully the dingbats who have been critical of him to the extreme will start to see that.

Gilmore would be huge. Mathieu would be a nice to have.
I don't think we can make any significant moves until after June 1st if I am understanding the cap correctly and that the the Carr extension didn't somehow free up money (sounds like it added a couple to this years cap number).
After that we get roughly $20 million to play with. I am not expecting any major moves until then.

I don't see how the Carr extension is so incredibly team friendly.
He was set to a make about $21M this year already and now gets and extra $3.9M.
The Carr deal is team friendly in that it allows the current staff to have him for a year then move on if they decide they want to, which they could have done already without this extension.
If he plays great and they want to keep him then he gets about $39-40M per year which is top 5 QB money.
What am I missing here?

The team has an out and locked him up at current top 7 money. For a shorter term than most. If he restructures, then it really helps the team next year. And frankly, he deserves it.

They tore up his existing one-yr deal at way less than current market value and re-wrote a new 4-yr deal at a more appropriate and yet still market-friendly ~$35 MM/yr, with rolling annual team options to cut bait w/o dead cap. That is as team-friendly as it gets when it comes to legit starting NFL QB contracts.

Gilmore would definitely be the first option for me too, but Mathieu is also an upgrade. I really think his presence would allow Graham to deploy Abram as more of a hybrid LB/DB covering crossing routes, receivers out of the backfield and blitzing. Strikes me that Abram is ideally suited to become one of those hybrid D players that Belichik has deployed to great success.

I know a lot of people don't like Florio (I'm a big fan personally) but one thing he does better than anyone else is break down contracts.
Here are the details on Carr's new deal:
1. Signing bonus: $7.5 million.
2. 2022 base salary: $17.4 million, fully guaranteed.
3. 2023 base salary: $32.9 million, guaranteed for injury at signing and fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2023 waivers period.
4. 2024 base salary: $41.2 million, $7.5 million of which is guaranteed for injury at signing and becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2023 waivers period.

6. 2022-25 workout bonus: $100,000 per year.

They would both be great additions, but I think I would take Mathieu if I had a choice between the two. I am pretty happy with the corners on the roster currently. I am comfortable with Rock and Mullen on the outside and Hobbs in the slot and I think there are a couple decent players behind them. I'm also a little concerned with Gilmore being able to stay on the field since he has played 8 and 11 games last two years.

If Carr plays well enough that the Raiders stick with him then $35 mil/year is a very team friendly price for a starting QB considering the cap will be over $200mil when it expires.
It also puts Carr in line for another big payday at 33/34 years old. Dude is being team friendly for sure but he's also betting on himself in a big way which we should all respect.

Yeah, I worry if I am too optimistic for a 2019 Gilmore and not what we have seen since.
For me, I personally believe that Abram is a heck of an athlete and hope that he was simply being misused by DCs who lack creativity. I think signing Mathieu allows for much more creativity/flexibility for Abram rather than asking him to simply cover WR/TEs in mid/deep zones. He's not intuitive enough in coverage to do that consistently, but I'd bet every shekel in my wallet that his presence would make WRs think twice over the middle and he would get after the QB as well as any DB in the league, including, based on nothing but my second glass of wine, Jamal Adams.

Yes, Abram will be exposed if asked to cover WR's. It is just not his skillset.
Under Guenther it was just a mess. I had hoped to have seen more improvement under Bradley and thought perhaps he would be better by simply having clarity on what his responsibilities were. I think though, with Graham being more adaptable, that he can deploy him in ways to get the most out of what he does well and not ask to him to do things that he doesn't do well.
Adding Gilmore would be massive as a proven vet who can still match up against the #1's of the league. I have hopes Mullen is ascending to that level and Rock Ya-Sin is also ascending. Hobbs was ranked as the best slot corner by PFF with at least 100 snaps last year. With the AFC West arms race and the other AFC contenders adding pretty much any top level talent to the secondary can be useful and even more so for a DC that is all about being flexible and adaptive.

Philon has received little interest on the free agent market as he rehabs a torn patellar tendon suffered in Week 18 with Las Vegas. He'd compete with Johnathan Hankins, Bilal Nichols, Vernon Butler, Kyle Peko, and a few others in the interior rotation if healthy.

Carr is only set to make $25 million in 2022 and $33 million in 2023, per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. That will give the Raiders plenty of money to sign players like Hunter Renfrow and Darren Waller to new contracts. A year after Carr signed his first extension with the team, they traded away Khalil Mack, who was his closest friend on the team. He wanted to make sure he wouldn’t have to see more close friends go because of his contract.
“My agent, myself, and the team, we made sure guys like Chandler [Jones], guys like Davante, guys like hopefully Hunter [Renfrow], and Foster [Moreau], all those guys can stay here,” Carr said at his post-signing press conference. “The way we structured it, I went through a heartbreak already the last time I signed my contract. Losing out on Gilmore is a bummer. He was the last guy that I really, really, really wanted. He would have been a clear upgrade starter. Any other current FA CB's added would be a vet in reserve duty. I can't imagine us getting a starter out of the draft coming in the 3rd round. Of course there is the chance of trading up (though we don't have a ton of capital to trade up with) and who knows what we will do the draft but I am going to focus on the FA right now.
I am certainly not opposed to Mathieu but how much would it take to get him? He said he would have accepted the Reid deal that KC gave out (3 years for $31 million) but it seemed like that was the hometown discount kind of "I would have accepted it".
There are a few OT's that would could bring in for competition/insurance for the RT spot like Bulaga, Williams, and Massie. If Leatherwood can't handle the RT duties then he should be able to handle RG and grow there. If he is put there then we are going to stretch again with Parker. I am not a fan of that plan. I think any of the three above would be a better bet than Parker though not without their concerns/issues. Ideally, Leatherwood is good to go at RT with growth but we won't really know until camp.
Besides that on the offense I would like one thing and there is only one FA left that would fill that need. Speed at the receiver position. Will Fuller was a 4.34 guy out of college. Assuming the injuries haven't slowed him down at all then he adds that speed that currently only Tyron Johnson has. I am not totally comfortable of him being that sole speed guy for us. I love our weapons and honestly think we have the best overall group of RB's, WR's and TE's in the NFL now but that speed is a deficiency that I would love to see filled. Johnson has the speed but what it needs to competent speed and I am not totally sold on his possession of competent speed. Will has it. Now sure, most likely he would get hurt and spend most of the season on IR and then we would rely on Johnson but I think that at this stage in FA, he is likely to come at a discount due to him still being on the market and his long track record of injuries. A discounted Will Fuller for a gamble of him actually being healthy for a season could be huge. Just imagine other than the questions along the offensive line... what a complete offense that would be.
I am not thrilled with our DT position. Hankins is a reliable run stuffer NT and I like Nichols potential but we went from a deep rotation at DT to thin. I am not very optimistic of Butler or Peko. The guy I like a lot to add here is Hicks. He has had some health issues over the last few years but he can generate the pressure on the QB that I think we to add. Suh and Richardson could be potential players to add as well.
I would like some additions to the LB corps. I am wondering if one of the NE LB's like Van Noy, Hightower or Collins. Anthony Barr would be interesting to me as well.

Good can and did play RT and was pretty good at it (sorry, can't help it). He played RT for Indy before the Raiders then RG and RT with us. I wouldn't be shocked if he ended up starting RT. I certainly would like him over Parker at RT.
I believe they have stated that they will try players at different spots. Other than LT and C, I don't think we really know who will play where. Leatherwood is the first piece of the puzzle to place in to get the rest of the picture in.

Both sides of the line are the most glaring need. You or I would be better than Parker. If Carr is running for his life, the team will suck. And the Interior DL is woefully thin.

Yes, competent speed helps everyone. We will have some money to spend. As I mentioned, Will should be at a discount because of the injury history and still being on the market. A one year prove it deal wouldn't be hard on the cap, doesn't preclude to adding at the O and D lines and can make a big difference.
Speed opens things up for everyone. Review the tape from when Ruggs was on the team last year. Review the stats. 307 vs 240 yards per game with and without. 25.7 vs 19.4 points per game with and without. 1.7 vs 1.1 passing TD's per game with and without. Mind you, these with numbers were with the offensive line playing much more poorly than they did on the second half of the season when Ruggs and that competent speed were gone. Further, watch the tape of how MVS helped Adams and vice versa in how GB deployed them.
Assuming Will Fuller's 4.34 speed is still intact (no idea to be honest with so many injuries but I don't recall any leg or knee injuries... finger, chest, elbow and I believe a foot.... not sure of the more) and we can bring him in on the cheap, it makes absolute sense. Because of the injury history, there is a good chance he doesn't play much for us but as the WR corps is now, adding competent speed would absolutely make a difference. Wasn't it you pumping Fuller before? I didn't want us to go after him before but again... the only vet that with the difference making speed, likely available for cheap and not someone we have to rely on but could fill a role. Why not?

We have about $5 million available now. Another about $20 million will be available after June 1st. What RT on the market right now will eat up all that money? Draft wise, unless we make some major moves, this class will not cost much. We can add a vet RT, a vet DT and Will Fuller easily with that money. Heck, maybe we could add the Honey Badger, a vet RT, a vet DT and Will Fuller with that much money to spend if we got really good contracts.
Who is the best RT on the market right now? Bulaga? He isn't getting $10 million a year again at this stage in his career and this long on the open market. Go with with Hicks for DT and again, he isn't commanding $10 million like he just ended on. How much would Will Fuller cost at this point? He isn't getting $10 million a year again as well. Let's be generous... Bulaga at 8. Hicks at 8 and Fuller at 5. Plenty to sign the draft class and money left over. If we got them all on even cheaper contracts... and Mathieu went lower that I think he wants.... it would be a stretch but not out of the realm of possibility. Regardless, none of the available RT's available on the market right now come without questions, declined play, age or issues and none will break the bank. The longer the off season goes, the more their asking price goes down. And likewise, Fuller isn't getting a big contract either at this point and with his track record of not staying healthy.
