I don't think retiring his number is realistic, but it always surprised me that they gave his number away (to rookie Zech McPhearson) within a year of him leaving.

Meanwhile 9, 25, and 43 seem to be getting an extended "off-limits" treatment. All three of them played the same (or less) amount of years with the team.

71 will be off-limits until it's inevitably retired after he goes in the HOF.

62 will, at the very least, be shadow retired like 12.

Another tidbit about Malcom Jenkins is he's the only player to defeat both Tom Brady and Peyton Manning in the Super Bowl.

 
No Parker for us.  Seemed like a pretty low cost to acquire him... weird they sent him within the div to the Pats.  We must have been offering significantly less.

honestly like the newer uniforms much better. I get the nostalgia and all, but those uniforms were NOT better

 
Still seeing mocks with Eagles taking a WR in the first. I don't get that. The addition of Pascal drives it well down the list of needs.'

I think Pascal makes a solid WR2....particularly on a team with a strong receiving TE and capable RBs. Better to use that pick on the lines

Our wr core besides smith is very below average.   The fact that all they did was sign pascal in free agency signals to me they are drafting another wr high.

Pascal seems like a nice depth signing and is probably already better than quez and reagor.   But that's also another sign of how bad our wrs are.

meh....honestly think he's a bit under rated. Certainly no star but as I said, but with a top TE and RBs who are competent receivers I don't see it as a true need position any more. Certain ly should spend a pick there, just don't agree it should be a first

If you were able to sign your #2 WR as the 81st highest paid wideout in the NFL, via a 1-year contract, you either pulled off one of the biggest offseason heists in the league, or you still need major help at the position. 

 
We need a major WR upgrade. Lots of rumors about Metcalf or AJ Brown. Don't think I'd give up the Hill ransom but a first and a 4th would do it for me.

well, we all knew they wanted to trade for an extra first next year, so thats not a huge surprise.

 
I absolutely love this trade with the Saints. This draft looks loaded in the later rounds for upside potential. I absolutely love getting another 1st in 2023. The 2024 2nd round pick is amazing in this deal as it will give a lot of flexibility in this draft and future drafts.

Howie pissed me off last season but I like what he's doing now...

 
I like that deal for the Saints. This class is loaded. A 2-for-1 swap in the teens is huge.

I’m not sure what the salary cap situation is with Philly, but it could’ve played a part in why they chose to drop a 1st-rounder this year.

 
Taking the meaningless 6th and 7th round picks out of it, and the 1 spot move, it boils down to this:

Saints get:  Pick 16

Eagles get:  2022 3rd Rounder, 2023 1st Rounder, 2024 2nd Rounder.

Wow.

 

 
Now we get to cheer against the Saints for the season which is nice.  They probably won't be, but might be a top 10 pick next year. 

 
Had a moment to really look at this and this might be Howie's best trade to date. He has had some good ones, but this one is really a masterpiece. Look at the Saints schedule and tell me they get more than 7 wins tops next year. Could be a top 5 pick when its all said and done.

I wouldn't say top 5.  They do get 2 vs CAR and 2 vs ATL.  Vegas says 7.5 which puts this pick right around 11/12 if they're right.

Crazy that it’s back to back years in which Howie pulled off a future 1st trade well prior to the draft.

Yes.  They were a "playoff" team last year decimated by more injuries than I've ever seen.  They own Tampa Tom in the regular season, and that team has lost some pieces.  Not predicting, but it wouldn't surprise me to see the Saints win the division.  They're looking for legitimate starters with 3 picks in the top 50 now.  Definitely need a WR and T.   They're getting Thomas back and Winston played well for the team last year.  Add in a top 3-5 defense......yeah.

I get the wishful thinking on your part.

I already said they "probably won't, but could" be a top 10 pick. 

So what is your prediction for Saints wins? Give me your realistic low end/high end win total.

Also, they lost Sean Payton.  Tough to predict much more then a .500 record from them, but who know - they might surprise.

Howie is gambling that the Saints will be worse in 2022 (better than 50/50) and the draft crop will be better in 2023 (likely). He almost got very lucky with the Miami pick this year.

6s and 7s aren't "meaningless"....but it's still a good point. Nice deal made by Howie here

 
On the NFL Draft Value chart, pick 18 to 19 is 25 pys difference. From pick 194 to 237 it's 12 points. 

 
From a draft pick value standpoint, no matter what chart or method you use, this is a big score for the Eagles. Even if NO wins the SB this year and that 1 next year is pick 32. 
 

Now, how we use the picks, and how the players we could have taken this year with the extra pick turn out, we could still squander all the capital we got from this deal. 
 

Moving one of the picks wasn’t the least bit surprising. That they were able to get what they got is definitely a bonus. 

 
Yeah agree that is a remarkable trade for the Eagles.  They will now likely have 2 top 20 (maybe top 20) picks for 2 straight years.  This is how you build a team.  

 
I really wonder what the Saints are thinking here. That seems like the kind of deal you do on draft day if Willis or another QB you love is on the board, but if things don't break right they are essentially giving up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the chance to draft a George Karlaftis or Chris Olave.  :shrug:

 
Some Saints fans are throwing around the idea that the Saints somehow "know" that Sean Payton will return to coaching soon and that another team will have to send the Saints a first-rounder (or more, Gruden-style) for Payton's rights. And that all went into the calculus for this trade from the Saints' end :shrug:

No idea if the Saints are going for a move into the top 5 for a QB. Keeping the two 2022 1st rounders and hitting on two cheap five-year starters at LT and WR is a good plan, IMHO. Have to hit on the picks, of course.

Fan speculation, though I wouldn't call it crazy talk:

[The Saints] are going to have at least an extra 1st round pick in 2023 and probably more. Payton IS going to return to coaching, and we ARE going to get a king's ransom for him.

This move is almost certainly made with that in mind.

Weird to see a deal like this happen pre draft, but it makes sense from the Saints perspective if you have 15 guys you would pay that price for.

If I were an Eagles fan, I would be pretty happy with this trade especially having the two other 1st round picks.  Definite potential for a higher pick next year plus the future 2nd.  

Do a similar deal every year until you get lucky with a super high pick

 
What are folks thoughts on Penn State WR Jahan Dotson? Is he someone the Eagles could have a shot at drafting? Would he be a good fit?

I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean, LOL, but yes, I definitely would've kept all your teen picks due to the dynamics of 3 good picks in this class in what is currently the weakest division in the NFL.

I think you got enough value as far as that goes, but I'm wondering what the impetus was behind it (which is why I mentioned the salary cap). Also,  if I was considering making a trade like that, I would wait until the pick is OTC for two reasons...#1, if it's just about compensation, OTC deals are likely to be more prosperous for the seller in a good class, & #2, you guys need impact players so I would first make sure nobody unexpected falls like Micah Parsons did last year.
