2022 Philadelphia Eagles - Leave Gannon in Arizona and let’s run through the NFC again in 2023. (3 Viewers)

The reported UDFA signings so far have plenty of 5-7 round grades, pretty much evening out some of the Day 3 picks they gave up amongst all their maneuvering 👍

CB Josh Blackwell Duke
S Reed Blankenship Mid. Tennessee
RB Kennedy Brooks Oklahoma
WR/KR Britain Covey Utah
CB Mario Goodrich Clemson
CB Joshua Jobe Alabama
QB Carson Strong Nevada

Glad we got 4 DB's here.  Surprised we didn't go after it more in the draft, but can't nail every position and we did a damn good job this year.

Strong apparently didn’t interview well at both the Senior Bowl and Combine, came off as immature and didn’t know his offense and protections well. The latter of which is a bit hard to understand with him being a 70% passer. Link to the article is in his player thread.

He also has a serious knee condition that might not ever get better. It’s some weird thing where he has a dead spot on his knee where it won’t grow connective tissue.

Love the Eagles draft. Everything is lined up for Hurts to either take the next step or for them to be a marquee destination for a veteran QB next year or a big draft move up.

15 - stay - Jordan Davis

18 - stay - Drake London

Congrats to our draft contest winner, Insein! The trading of the 18th pick for AJ Brown really handcuffed most of the entries. PM your address and I'll send out your pack-o-Eagles swag.

I was wondering who was going to sign Covey.  Great return man that I think also has a future as a slot WR.

I think this quote from Howie yesterday, on their current safeties, means Honey Badger ain’t coming: “We have a higher vision of that room than maybe is perceived.”

Im not sure how much egg on their face there will be given where he was picked and the caliber of player many think we got. Now if we pick him in round 2 I’d agree more. Dean almost feels like a free pick in the 3rd to me.

This isn't Sidney Jones at all. Jones was felt like he was the 2nd-4th best CB in that draft where Dean was viewed as a top 15 players in the whole draft. You took him in the 3rd round. You got a free 1st round pick there

Fast. Special Teams ace. But 24 and still considered a project as an NFL player. Traded up to get him, when that profile seems more like a UDFA target, so they must really like him.

Eagles are going with more prototypes and hybrids at certain positions.

Uh oh. Danny Watkins PTSD!

He retired from football in 2019 (due to concussions) and spent 2020 preparing to become a firefighter before transferring to SMU.
Calcaterra was in training to become a firefighter in Orange County, Calif. Looking at San Diego area as well to become a first responder. He did go on some medical calls no fires.

Before he was hurt this. guy was one of the top TE prospects people were looking forward too. If he pans out he's a steal.

Eagles sign another huge DT in Noah Ellis. Sorry not sorry if he makes the roster and anyone tries to run on us with him and Davis in there.

Ha. Man I only got the pick right and still won, lol.

Would be funny if he ends up replacing Jalen. Strong would've been a 1st/2nd round QB maybe best in the draft if it wasn't for the questions of his knees.
Somewhat surprised your sources didn’t provide insight into how his character questions played a large part in his draft evaluation.

Of his knee ever gets to 100% it’s definitely possible. The pass game here is tailored to a pocket passer and we have a ton of weapons.

Sucks we missed out on Honey Badger.... thought he would have been a great fit for us back there.  Secondary was a pretty big need and we didn't do much this draft, unless those UDFA can stick.

Excited for the schedule to come out.  Probably heading down for a game this year.  Doug and Carson are both coming to town this year.

QBBC :)

In all seriousness, Philly could benefit from this unorthodox approach given Hurts' shortcomings. Both Shew & Strong are better passers.

Say you get down or want to take advantage of a weak secondary, put your thrower in. It's not rocket science.

Hurts would need to keep his ego in check, but he seems to be a guy who would be ok with it (at least outwardly).

I know he has a weak arm but part of me is intrigued as to how well Minshew would perform in this offense with these weapons and OL.

I think the old adage with QB's still applies: When you have 2 starting QB's, you have no starting QB's. I think they will give Hurts a lot of time this year to sink or swim, so they truly know what he is and can move on or stick with him for the long term. Obviously, how the rest of the team plays and whether they are in contention for the playoffs, will factor in to whether they go in another direction at the end of the season if Hurts is not playing well.

“The #Eagles agreed to release OL Nate Herbig, his agent Ken Sarnoff confirmed. Team had trade talks with a few teams during the draft but nothing materialized. Herbig, 23, signed his RFA tender last week, now hits the market as an unrestricted FA. Had 17 starts last two years.”

Hes going to find a new team fast I think

Large part? They possible played a part. More likely is the issues with his knee

It was mostly his knees and nothing brings up anything of character concerns. WOuldn't have seen that post if you hadn't quoted as I threw him on ignore awhile back after calling out his BS "sourced" material. I could be wrong here and maybe he's confusing Strong with Matt Corral's Mental issues though

I can see him getting half the year. If he ####s the bed Minshew probably goes in as I think Strong gets a RS year if they don't see his knees will hold up this year plus don't plan on using him. However it wouldn't shock me if they go into '23 with a rookie like Bryce Young and Strong being QB2. Shew becomes QB3/Dev guy

Though if Strong has a good pre season and some team has a QB go down for awhile and want Minshew I could see Strong as the back up this year. Eagles have a ton of ways to go here.

This.  I know you guys gave me flak for not immediately liking the Davis pick, but count me concerned on our secondary.  It's  a passing league and outside of Slay, we have struggled.  I am hoping our LBs pan out which will be nice, and if our pass rush can generate enough pressure to make mistakes that would be fantastic.

I have to think we need to do some other moves yet for our secondary.  Granted I think the NFC East isn't a powerhouse right now, so I think we have as good if not better to win division, I just don't know how deep we can go without some better secondary coverage.

Agreed. The secondary needs help. I thought it was a slam-dunk we would sign the Honey badger, after BAL drafted Kyle Hamilton. I don't feel super optimistic relying on McPherson as CB2 opposite Slay. And Harris and Epps are JAGs. The list of available FAs isn't really very promising, either.

True, but I don't think any of us expected some kind of deep playoff run this year.  We all love our draft and moves, but we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves, we are still in a 'rebuild".

A lot of good secondary's aren't as good without a good pass rush. That's what I use to argue about the NYJ Def under Rex Ryan. Other then Revis I think many of the guys benefited from the front 7 play of that team defensively. A good front 7 helps stop some of the secondary problems. The problem is when that front 7 doesn't get the pressure consistently

Also Davis instantly helps the run D which was gashed numerious times last year

Can't fix every hole in 1 offseason. We're still rebuilding. Think people forget that since we made the playoffs but we only made it do to how weak the 2nd half of our schedule was. Without the 17 game for NO we don't beat one team that had a winning record and NO was missing a ton of key starters that game that would've made a difference. Fine going into next year with what we have. Maybe a trade happens for someone too. Not gonna lie rather of used 18 to get Elam for the other CB spot but we got a great WR that we needed. rather have kept the picks because I think Brown's talent and most of our receivers talents will be wasted under Hurts once again. But again we're still rebuilding.

Pretty much this. Not sure what people's expectations are. I think Hurts is the limiting factor for success this season, not the secondary. If he doesn't improve his game nothing else will really matter. Plus the way Gannon runs the defense, I think what they have will be fine for another year.

I hear you- I know it's a rebuild. And overall, I am really happy about the draft and the trade.

But, the secondary looks to be even worse than last year, or at least less talented. And they played abysmally last year. The number of 3rd string quality QBs that had career games against us was painful to watch. I do hope the Defense will play better as a whole than they did last year, due to the additions to the Dline and an upgraded LB corps. But, in obvious passing situations, they are going to have to go from bottom of the league to top 10 in generating pressure to cover the glaring holes in that secondary.

Having Davis helps the run game, a lot, and hopefully helps the pass D, too, letting them go to 2-high shells and keep the safeties out of the box. But, who knows how often and what formations he will be on the field.
