2022 Philadelphia Eagles - Leave Gannon in Arizona and let’s run through the NFC again in 2023. (4 Viewers)

“Eagles were lucky to get an easy schedule”

Let’s roll with them having the 29th most difficult schedule, ok? Did SF get knocked for winning 10-straight to end the regular season with the 32nd most difficult schedule? Have I missed all the talk about KC, at 27th, being lucky to get the 1-seed? HOU’s easy schedule surely carried them to the playoffs, right?
I was watching the NFL network early in the week and the "Eagles had an easy schedule" narrative was in full force. Not once did I hear anyone question the Niners schedule (easiest in the league) nor the Chiefs easy schedule. All season long its been "Eagles haven't played anyone", not once did I hear anyone question the Cowboys easy schedule, or the Seahawks or the Chiefs. Only the Eagles.

Keep hating.

Trust me if Buff had won and played KC in the AFC Title game and lost we'd be hearing about how Buff got robbed of their #1 seed

None of the haters you’ve posted about have been wrong about anything.
By what metric are they the "Worst. In. History."?
Listen. I haven’t looked at a single ranking. Their schedule was easy. Let’s not pretend it wasn’t easy. Cmon

Is your argument that the schedule wasn’t easy? Or is it “they had an easy schedule , BUT IT WASNT THE EASIEST ONE EVER !!”
I'm asking why are the Eagles singled out and not SF or KC? Or your Cowboys? Its been all season long.

Absolutely the Eagles started the season with one of the easier schedules. So did the Giants, Cowboys, and Commanders. SF ended with the easiest. No one ever questioned their 12-0 run though.

I'm asking why are the Eagles singled out and not SF or KC?

If you read my posts in the Super Bowl thread, I do single out SF and KC. They had the 31st and 29th hardest schedules, respectively. Very easy schedules. You guys just had the 32nd, which I think is the worst in history as far as DVOA goes (The Football Outsiders measure of competitiveness).

I'm asking why are the Eagles singled out and not SF or KC? Or your Cowboys? Its been all season long.
Idk….idc. Why do you care?
Always the eagles fans. NOONE RESPECTS US!!!

You never that from another fan base.

I feel like you all are a bunch of needy teenagers honestly 🤷🏻‍♂️
Then why are you here? Just to keep saying the same thing over and over? We've heard it ALL. SEASON. LONG. And you're still here saying the SAME. THING.

Idk. I guess it’s kinda like a car accident, you know it’s not going to be good but you can’t help but look.

Are you ever going to answer my questions?
Why do you care? And why do eagles fans as a group always whine so much about no respect and haters?

I wonder what the Niner fans would be saying if all they heard on the NFL network was that maybe their 12-0 run was a product of their easy schedule. Or maybe Bosa's great season was because he played a cupcake schedule. I wonder why the NFL network wasn't questioning the Chiefs' easy schedule, but certainly harped on the Eagles?

Yeah, why do you ONLY hear Eagles fans?

:tfp: any chance to keep strength of schedule out of the thread until post-Super Bowl? if Eagles win i would assume we won't hear much about it, if the Eagles lose feel free to bring it up again. truce??

Bro I get about 4-10 texts from haters every single day telling me how the Eagles are going to lose.

This isn't a text, nor am I a hater. You guys played the easiest schedule in history for a Super Bowl participant. You are going to lose. Mahomes is such an advantage that I don't think people properly understand it.
Ok. Funny you left out the first 2 things I said haters say and you literally repeat it. But sure.
Anyone that knows me knows I’m an eagles hater. Noone is a bigger eagles hater than me.
None of the haters you’ve posted about have been wrong about anything. Except for the game prediction because no one knows that obviously.
Why does it bother you so much? Or at all?
Why does hyperbole treated as fact bother me? Guess I'm just from a different era I dunno how else to answer that honestly. Treating every Hot Take as fact just isn't my thing, especially in sports where there are stats to disprove dumb statements like "easiest schedule in history for a Super Bowl participant" when all you gotta do is look at the fact the very division we came out of had 3 of the 7 playoff teams in the conference. I'm used to more in depth sports conversations than arguing with some whiner that can't accept reality. That last part seems to be a bigger problem with our society overall IMO.

IMO...and to be completely honest....I think 3 of the playoff teams coming out of the NFC east says more about the NFC overall than anything else....

and if we go back to August....IIRC KC was looked at as having the hardest schedule in the entire league.....if you go look at their schedule and pretend you were in August most would agree....and many were thinking the AFC west could have 3 teams make the playoffs....as it turns out, the Raiders and the Broncos did not live up to the hype created with their with their additions....

so the only thing I really take from the "schedule" talk is that it does feel like KC at least played some what turns out to be "better teams" in terms of games against BUF, CIN, SF, LAC.... so they have been through it and had some pretty good battles/tests....

as some have said....these probably are the two best teams in the league and I think we are lucky to get that type of matchup....they didn't slip up in the playoffs....to me, the regular season really means nothing at this point except maybe a team knowing they have confidence they can beat or at least competed against some of the other better teams in the league previously.....but that doesn't put any points on the board Sunday, so in the end it really doesn't matter....can't wait for what should be a great game...

Totally fair, opinionated take. To each their own, but the fact is, the Eagles played 10 games this season, including the playoffs and are 9-1 in those games, and the only loss coming against Cowboys with a backup QB. So here is the part where to me is the "jumping of the shark" bc we are now ignoring things like stats and win/losses and going "Well, SO WHAT that team had a winning record, in MY opinion, they should have had a losing record" or something like that. And that morphs into "The Eagles played the easiest schedule of all time for a Super Bowl participant" based on....wait for it, DVOA which is a metric still based in other people's opinions/rankings, etc.

And also why I hate when the schedule comes out and in AUGUST we look at the strength of the schedule based on team's performances the season prior, when we ALSO can find data that shows us that literally EVERY SINGLE SEASON each conference has 40%+ more teams that are in the playoffs that season that missed the playoffs the prior season. Not to mention the constant turnover of NFL rosters and ya know, ITS A NEW SEASON SO WHY ARE WE LOOKING AT STATS FROM *LAST* SEASON TO BASE OUR OPINIONS ON HOW GOOD THESE TEAMS WILL BE *THIS* SEASON.

And its only being done to the Eagles for the most part. That is why its so annoying haha.

I believe results from the previous season do factor into opinions in August in terms of strength of schedule....but I also think people also take into consideration things like DEN getting Wilson/Gregory and LVR getting Adams and Chandler Jones, etc....

How is this true? We've covered this. Easiest schedule based on LAST YEARs W-L isn't the same as easiest schedule. Based on THIS YEARS W-L it's the hardest.

As I've said several times before...the truth is in the middle. Wasn't the easiest, wasn't the hardest. Move on from this tired trope

How is this true? We've covered this.

No, we haven't covered it and debunked. Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders has them with the easiest schedule DVOA-wise that there was in the league.

I don't see what is so hard to understand that by Football Outsiders's measure of quality of opponent, the Eagles had the easiest schedule.

It wasn't as easy as it could've been. They might've gotten to play the Cowboys in the playoffs. That would've been easier than curb-stomping the 49ers.

The difference between you and me is the fact that that doesn’t bother me in the least. But if someone posts something like that to most of the eagles fans that are around they get offended and freak out. It’s hilarious really

The difference between you and me is vast. And, I could not possibly be less bothered by your posting, or any other poster. In fact, I am wearing a toga, relaxing on a chaise lounge eating freshly peeled grapes and being fanned as I type this.

What does make me laugh is that You constantly come in this thread and post about how thin-skinned Eagles fans are, and then act surprised when some of us say ‘man, you’re kinda annoying beating the same drum all the time.’

You’re like a clueless guy that comes by every 15 minutes and jumps out at you and screams “Boo”. Then is the only one laughing, slapping his knee and saying “Aw, man, I live in your head rent-free” Harharharhar!”

It’s a weird schtixk and I still can’t figure out whether you’re serious or not. But regardless, it’s kinda fun to go back and forth and you seem like a decent enough guy.

I haven’t come in here and said “the only reason the eagles had a good season is because their schedule was so easy”. Not one time.

I just read eagles fans posting that their schedule wasn’t easy, and it makes me laugh. And I post.
I’m not the only one laughing. And eagles fans are most definitely thin skinned. You guys spent the 2 weeks leading up to the Super Bowl defending the regular season schedule lol.
And there are more posts about the cowboys in this thread by eagles fans than there are posts in the cowboys thread by cowboys fans. The cowboys DO live rent free in most eagles fans heads. It’s not the end of the world. It’s ok.

Enjoy the game! I’d wish you good luck but I wouldn’t mean it , obviously.

Bingo. Pure trolling as he loves the responses he gets and finds them 'so hilarious'

Speaking of AOL, one word that was the worst word, was “Goodbye”. I got around it by installing a news ticker to trick AOL into thinking I was still active so it wouldn’t kick me off. Nothing worse than that happening during a long download.

From SB tidbits from Rick Gosselin:

Sunday Super Bowl marks only the third time in the game’s history that the NFL’s top passing offense (KC) faces the league’s top pass defense (Philly). Pass defense won each of the first two meetings — Seattle over Denver in 2014 (43-8) & Tampa Bay over Oakland in 2003 (48-21).

48 of the 56 Super Bowl champions finished in the Top 10 in scoring defense. It’s not how many points you score — it’s how few you allow. The Eagles finished 8th in the NFL in scoring defense this season, the Chiefs 16th.

All the "stats" / history like this and the MVP 0-9, etc, etc point to us winning this game and that's what terrifies me the most.

I hear there's a football game on tomorrow, so here's some random thoughts and hopes on what fells like is the longest day of the year today.

Offense: Expecting AJ Brown to go off and potentially get MVP. He's due, he has a history of playing big in playoff games in Tenn, and was top in the league this year against press coverage, which KC uses a lot. Brown goes off in the first half, start the second with a lead and the line pummels the defense and they grind out a boring win.

Defense: The hope is the line feasts and makes Mahomes night a living hell while the secondary plays tight and challenges any quick throws. The fear is Gannon reverts back to playing super soft coverage fearing Mahomes, and he dink and dunks them all night. I know I'm in the minority here with that fear, but they faced so few legit QBs this year. This is the game that will finally make me a believer in him (or my fears come true and I hate him forever).

Nice segue to the strength of schedule. WGAF? I don't care if they played every game against Sister Mary's School of the Blind, as long as they win. The '72 Dolphins still get talked about and their schedule was Charmin soft. For those still hung up on this, you should come up with a formula that takes into account how they did against them. What I mean is, if you played an "easy" schedule and barely won your games (like the Vikings) then that's a red flag. But if you smashed most of your opponents (like the Eagles) then they did what they should. Why penalize a team for that?

That NFCCG really broke some fans. One in particular. I almost feel sorry for them. I tend to have my team blinders on at times, but jebus.

@ChiefD, you're good people. Really appreciate your postings leading up to the game. I still hope you're sad and disappointed tomorrow night, though. It's almost as if the issues with other fanbases isn't because of the Eagles fans like we've been led to believe. Hmmm.

Speaking of, for the love of god Eagles fans, stop taking the stinky bait and feeding the trolls. Ignore them and they'll hopefully get bored and go away. I miss the football discussions that used to go on here.

Fun fact, the last time Philly played KC for a championship it ended pretty well with McGraw striking out Wilson for the first Phillies World Series win.

Grease the poles and Go Birds!

But you said easiest EVER...and that's absolute garbage

According to DVOA...EVER. You guys played nobody. I can list the teams.
You actually buy that?
Three NFCE teams made the playoffs, and the fourth didn't fall short by a ton. Blew out a 12 win team (Minn). Pittsburgh and Green Bay were also near misses in the playoff hunt. The AFCS may have been the weakest division in the NFL this year, but the NFCN was at worst average. Your claim doesn't remotely pass the smell test.

This isn't about being a "fragile" Eagles fan. It wasn't a hard schedule in the end, but the claim.....simply doesn't add up.

Good point on that. This isn't college where you get to choose your opponents. If you beat who they ask you to beat and win by a good margin thats all that matters.

100%

And it doesnt really matter that it’s a good margin. Just win baby

Less than 24 hours out and I'm finally ready to put my thoughts down in writing.

I am (to my surprise) feeling very zen about this game. I think it has to do with us already having, finally, won a SB and in the back of my mind there's the feeling of, "If we lose, at least we still have SB 52" so it's not too bad. If we were going into this 0-3 and still trying to get our first one, I think I would be on edge right now. Also, deciding not to plunk down many thousands of dollars to go might also be why I'm less tense!

Where my heart is at: I really want to go crazy and celebrate a second SB and see the team cap off what might very well be the best season by the best team in Eagles history.

Where my gut is at: I can't shake the feeling that (since the NFL is scripted  ) a Philly team coming up just short (yet again) to their former coach is how this has to go. Having a third Philly team lose a championship would add 2022 to our city's long history of disasters and sports lore.

So, while I'm not going to predict an outcome, I do have a few things I want to predict:
  • The teams combine for a total of 2, or less, sacks. It would just figure, with both of these teams being the top 2 sack teams.
  • The Eagles get their first ever SB interception.
  • One of the QBs will miss plays due to injury.
  • Jordan Davis will be on the field for a QB sneak.
  • 3 players will go over 100 yards receiving.
  • No players will go over 100 yards rushing.
Lastly, I've seen a bunch of mentions in social and news media from non-Philly people about how if the Eagles win a second SB the city and fans will be "insufferable", "intolerable", or "unbearable" and I think that's wrong, because what we'll be there isn't even a word in existence yet that describes it...so may god have mercy on your souls!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the radio stations today had a bold prediction of a Jordan Mailata trick play. I've wondered about Mailata getting a carry since he became a starter. Seems feasible with his rugby background. He must have been used to handling the ball.

Who really gives a flying **** honestly. Half these guys shouldn't even have the jobs they do but they do. Most are just talking heads and also TV wants to sell ratings. This sells ratings. Also at the start of the season the Eagles did have an Easy schedule just looking at the opponents record from the prior season. A few of those teams did better then we thought. I do think a few of the teams we played this year overachieved a bit however. Outside of Aaron Rodgers and an up and comer in Trevor Lawerence who we played in pretty terrible throwing conditions I wouldn't say we played many top QBs. Kirk Cousins is a DR Jekyle Mr Hyde, Daniel Jones isn't anything special neither is Tennenhill. Prescott is way too inconsistent we played him once and lost because we shot ourselves in the foot Xmass Eve. Justin Fields? Please. WAS QB Situation? Goff is decent. I think Pickett is another year or 2 away from being good, Kyler Murray isn't anything special, Matt Ryan who should be retired? Mills and Hou? Andy Dalton? Giants in the Playoffs. Played SF good defense yes but once Purdy went down that game was over with a journeyman QB. So yes Mahomes is the best QB we've played all season. Rodgers use to be where Mahomes is now.

Once you see who we really played at QB I can see why people would say we've had an easy schedule. Also records aren't everything. NFL is a game of inches and mistakes any given Sunday. Unless you are watching every snap or every game you aren't going to get a real good feel for a team. I don't know why anyone would care if he schedule was easy or not. It's just pointless to talk about now but it sells ratings and they did their job because you're talking about what they said and still watching giving them ratings, so they'll continue to push the agenda.

REPORT: Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon Emerges As ‘Key Candidate’ For Cardinals Head-Coaching Job

BREAKING: Colts Will Be Hiring Eagles OC Shane Steichen To Be Their Next Head Coach

think Gannon will be good. what is with the Colts love affair with hiring our OC as their head coach? they didn't learn after Reich i guess. Not sure what Steichen's done to be such a good candidate. And what's with this stuff coming out right before the big game, should these coordinators been buried in film study for the last two weeks?

Game day, go birds!

Ya losing the Coordinators will hurt, especially Steichen (the one and only reason Hurts isn't an awful, droppable QB this year)
