2023 Cleveland Browns - 7-5, Jaguars Limping into Cleveland (11 Viewers)

Huge fan of DTR here. Watched him grow from an athlete pretending to be a QB to a legit dual-threat playmaker over the course of five years as UCLA's starter. My biggest concerns for him coming into the league were size and arm strength - both of which were alleviated during the draft process...

I figured he was 6'0'' with thick soles on and 190 lbs soaking wet. Instead he measured in at 6'2'' bare foot, and while 205 lbs is still skinny for that height, he clearly has the frame to put on 10-15lbs of good weight the next few years as he matures into his grown man body, which would put him in a similar height/weight combo to Aaron Rodgers.

Speaking of Rodgers, like ARod, it turns out DTR has a absolute gun. He tied the record this past year for fastest throw velocity in NFL combine history at 62 MPH (with Josh Allen). Mahomes' number was 60 MPH, as another comp. DTR can sling it WAY harder than I had perceived!

I go back to prime ARod as the best comp for this dude. I see a ton of similarities in their games. DTR was an absolute steal for you guys in the 5th round - and I think he's going to be a legit NFL starting QB, sooner or later. A few years sitting and learning behind Watson will do him good as he puts on weight. Rodgers sat for three years before becoming Rodgers.
speculation already running rampant that DTR will get the backup spot because they don't think they can sneak him onto the practice squad.

if i'm Dobbs, not sure i'm excited about sitting on the bench tonight.

I am not 100% on this, but the 3rd QB is a part of the 53-man roster and not a practice squad guy.

I believe you are correct.

So they either need to carry 3 QBs or make a decision if they keep him instead of Dobbs.

remember going into this offseason, when everyone said "the Browns don't have any cap space?"

and then they went out and signed like two dozen players?

and now they currently have $38 million in cap space?

gotta love math nerds.

Still no official word on the fifth-year option for LT Jedrick Wills Jr.
This is the first time #Browns GM Andrew Berry will take the decision up to the deadline.

Browns are the perfect team to take a guy like Dawand Jones, won't need play right away, and the Browns have one of the best OL coaches in football. if he is gonna work out anywhere Cleveland is as good a bet as any
Free agent pitch sees Browns add former 1st round tackle
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jed ranked 51st out of 81 OTs.
I like this move, definitely worth a long-shot gamble IMHO.

Watkins signed back to practice squad.

don't know if he'll be any good at the NFL level, but he sure seems to have nice hands.

nice to finally have some depth on this team.

Joe Burrow is playing but in checking the updates on his calf injury, MCL sprain, I saw he'll 'manage' it.
I wouldn't expect him to be 'as mobile' or that the Bengals will have designed rolls outs.
He does most of his damage stepping up in the pocket so we'll see how improved our DT position is.
I'm not sure.

Work to do but very happy with that performance yesterday. I don't think Burrow was close to a 100% but I also don't think it would have mattered yesterday against that defense. Impressive to say the least. Watson has to quit bouncing passes but I'll cut him some slack because of the weather and some questionable play calls IMO. Good to see them adjust and start feeding the ball to Chubb for a change.

And how freaking sweet was it to not sweat every damn kick!

weather DEFINTELY affected the passing for both QBs, but we also had some bad drops, and one instance where (i forget the wr) went up about half a second to early on a bomb pass... if it was cooper, it's caught for a TD...

watson needs to improve for sure... but in a sloppy divisional game like that, where he still had 2 tds and a massive W.... no complaining.

Steelers lost in embarrassing fashion to the Niners so they will be fired-up and have an insane win percentage on Monday Night. Tomlin is a master motivator and has a tendency or bouncing back after bad losses.
Acknowledging that, saw an interesting stat.
Last year every team outside of KC who played SF LOST the next week.
Add, KC had a BYE so they couldn't lose.
Here's another significant stat:
Since 2003 the Browns have ONE win in Pittsburgh and that came in the infamous playoff game.
---------------------------------------------------------
How does our win relate to Pittsburgh's loss?
SF got out to an early lead, forced the Steelers into being one-dimensional and poured it on.
Watson and the entire passing game didn't look good, we got out to a sloooooow start and if you took note, the Bengals had success running against us.
Critical note, our weak DT position hasn't been tested.
Tomlin will run the ball and concentrate on defense they'll sell out to stop the run.
This won't be a cake walk.
The Bengals game plan was to pass to get out to an early lead and they didn't adjust, and that played right into our defenses' strengths.
IF we can stop the run and make them one-dimensional then we can unleash the defense.
We don't need Watson to play 'great' but he has to be better.

at Pitt on MNF next week, the Steelers season is on the line already after getting thumped pretty good last week
At least they know their place right now in the NFL, it's not the Super Bowl
I watched a lot of the Cle-Cin game last week, it was in the Quad-Youtube
I was not impressed with the offense, super impressed with the defense.
Myles Garrett is amazing.

Week 5-BYE

I could see you all getting to 4-0 and a showdown vs SF but that offense could also make you stumble, still 3-1 is very doable.
Don't even go on the road after MNF game until Oct 22 and then it's B2B at Indy and at Sea, those 2 games shouldn't scare you.
The Browns have a chance to get rolling early on.

the Browns certainly have the opportunity to get off to a fast start and position themselves well in the AFC North.

after one week, we think the Defense is legit.

after one week, we still have questions about the offense, but i believe Stefanski will get Watson back on track.

just look at what he was able to do with Mayfield (when healthy) and Brissett.

Kareem Hunt, come on down!

Hopefully the last time we have to hear him at a presser devoted to him, some of these guys are a tough listen.
