You know, if you start looking at Georgia’s schedule if they lose here …

I mean, Ohio fell from 2 to 6. Could UGA go from 1 to 5?
Georgia's best selling point is going to be a 3 year run. They shouldn't be top 4 if they lose today. And Texas should get in before Alabama does. Head to head especially on Alabama's field has to matter.
If Alabama wins today I think their overall record is more impressive than Texas’, slightly. That should matter more than head to head IMO (though I don’t know how they determine this.)
A 12-1 Big 12 champ beat a 12-1 SEC team at their house. Texas before Bama. Full stop.

I am hoping a Bama win eliminates the SEC an we get Michigan, Washington, FSU, Texas.

Georgia's respect and ranking is like 75% based on the teams of 21 and 22.

It's kind of funny because everyone is saying they are screwed not getting to play Oklahoma and their schedule being so weak, but they have 3 wins against top 25 teams (which is more than any of Michigan, Washington, Texas, or FSU) including 2 against top 11 teams. Shows the kind of standard that's been set. If they don't have 5 wins against top 15 teams it's considered an "easy" year.

Hey, I hate UGA more than all of you combined but it’s ridiculous to think they shouldn’t be at worst top 3 but IMO #1 is fair. Not sure they can be faulted for Florida and Tenn sucking. They beat a good Missouri team, and murdered most everybody else including a good Ole Miss team. Kentucky who is average SEC school beat the 2nd best ACC team. I get folks hate the SEC but there’s a reason they’ve won 4 in a row and 5 of 6 titles.

lol they are literally ranked #1. Save that nonsense. If they lose though they’re falling down.

Not to mention a nearly 30 game streak.

The sec is likely the best conference this year (debatable) and hell Georgia may well win it if they get in. But you don’t get a free pass based on previous seasons. They’re an abundance of good teams this year and somebody is getting squeezed.

Yeah but you just liked a post saying their ranking is due to previous years. It’s gotten to the point that we all think every team isn’t deserving.

What team has better wins than Missouri, Auburn, Tenn, Ole Miss, Kentucky, South Carolina? I mean, come on man - you know this.

I am not saying Georgia doesn't deserve their ranking. You have to beat the man to be the man and all that. I am just saying there's been a lot of transference of perception. This UGA team is nowhere near what we've seen the last 2 years. Not even close.

Edit: was wrong about Michigan, but it’ll be 3 top 25 wins if they beat Iowa

Yep, and Kentucky just beat the ACC #2. SC I was just listing all their games - they do suck.

I pulled up Washington's 2022 schedule by mistake, you're right.

Who are Michigan and Texas' 3rd top 25 win? PSU/OSU for Mich, Bama/Okie St for Texas. I'm looking at coaches poll.

I was looking at the CFP rankings, KState is 25th. KState lost to Mizzou on a 61 yard field goal in Columbia at the last second for a reminder to everyone that the difference between the bottom of the top 10 and 25 is not much at all.

It would be Iowa for Michigan

Washington has 4 wins vs. the current top 25 (Oregon x 2, Arizona and Oregon St.) two over a top 5 team (Oregon x 2).

and as Michigan fan, I totally acknowledge their schedule was cotton candy for most of the year. But you run the table in a major conference, I think you should get in. You beat who is front of you. Bama-Texas played and Texas beat who was in front of them.

Yea I mentioned above I messed up when pulling up Washington's schedule.

It won’t matter with the expansion but Bama winning the SEC and getting left out for playing and losing to Texas would have been horrible for OOC scheduling.

I guess but what's the point of OOC games if they don't even matter for playoff making?

Oh, I agree. It’s being good enough to have a long winning streak, but not impress anyone like what guys on this board were doing to Washington until early this morning.

IF there are three 13-0 champs, they are all in. If the other two champs are 12-1 and played head to head, the head to head winner should be in. It wasn't like it was close. Texas won by double digits in Tuscaloosa and their only loss was to a good Oklahoma team in the final seconds. If Alabama gets in over them, it's on name and conference only.

I don’t know if the committee is considering that so that’s fair. I doubt they are actually. But every fan discussing them being left out is.

I could not agree more. I get why there is a general bias for the SEC but this is not the typical SEC year. It's ok if this SEC doesn't get a team in.

It will be resume vs H2H.

I agree that H2H should settle it (I've said this in the past with OSU/Mich as well) and that Texas should get in. But if it's not that you can't just say it's name/conference only when the resumes are so different. It will be

2 Top 25 wins (give them a 3rd with KSU depending on poll used, although OSU may drop out after losing today)
1 Top 15 win
Loss to #12

vs.

4 Top 25 wins
3 Top 15 wins
Loss to #4

Like what incentive does that give to have an OOC game if beating a team like Alabama won't even help you get in to the playoff over them?
You have to - you know - actually win that OOC game. No points for just scheduling.
Yes, that is my point. Texas went on the road to Alabama and won. If they don't get the credit for it, then what is even the point of taking those risks?

This is/was an argument for going to like 32 team playoffs. That you could have a situation exactly like this.

I’ve said several times Texas should get in over Bama. But if they stuck with 4 playoff teams then I’m not sure why a Bama needs to play that game.

I am fine with a 32 team playoff, especially with how totally jacked the conference system is now. Convert the bowl games to playoff games and shorten the regular season by 3ish games.

They don't, nor does Texas though I suppose. It's Chinatown man. Nobody knows.

OK, I misunderstood. I thought you were trying to justify Bama getting in.

This is so fun. Last night was incredible too. I just love college football, even if it's messy or maybe because it's so messy

Because it's messy. I think 6-8 teams is the max they should do for postseason. If it's 16 teams or whatever these games would be so much less impactful.
