2023 Dallas Cowboys — 9-3 Philly heading to Jerryworld next (1 Viewer)

Allowing La'el Collins to find a trade.  Dumping Cooper for just salary relief.  Thanks, Dak.

Enjoy being a QB running for your life with zero receivers.
You might want to thank Jerry for paying Zeke when RBs aren't worth their second contract. Don't get me wrong. Love Zeke. Have him on my main dynasty roster, so I want to see him young, spry, and healthy. But there's always somebody younger, faster, cheaper by the time the rookie deal is done. If they hold out, good riddance. Jones should have played hardball and got burned because he relented on that deal. It's a killer.

Draft defense and OL exclusively.
Improve defense, run more, throw less.

First year of my life I don’t even care about this team. Wake me after a playoff win.

Zero?  Does Lamb not count as 1?
Well, Lamb is the guy now - can he be the guy?  Hope so.  70 yards/game and 6 TD's on the season would say, no.  A lot of people want to give credence to Lamb because of his pre-draft rank and college performance but it really hasn't shown through statistically.  He runs hard, but has missed some catches.  Maybe this is what he needs.  Personally, I am not satisfied with Gallup for half the season and Lamb as our 2 WR's.

I agree with the Zeke signing - that was the beginning of our salary cap issues for sure.  I am also a big Zeke fan and thought his running style and ways to avoid big hits would be a benefit to his career longevity but now he looks timid versus avoiding big hits.  This is likely his last year with the Cowboys though.

The combination of trades/actual FA loses/ and FA loses to come only amplify last year's disappointment.

This roster has taken a pretty sharp downward turn and, absent a spectacular draft, looks to be further downgraded. The Cowboys' only saving grace is a poor division, as they are clearly a second or third rung NFL team.  We are looking like a ten win team- at best, more likely staring 8 or 9 wins in the face.

The offense will take a step back this year and the defense slightly overperformed last year- not a combination for success.

Randy Gregory now to Denver.
Jerry is losing his mind.

Sounds like he got the same deal in Denver that Dallas was offering. Except Dallas had wording in there protecting themselves if Gregory screwed up.

Good riddance imo

So glad he’s gone. He is a suspension waiting to happen, obvious by the fact he took that deal from Denver because he didn’t have anything really preventing him from screwing up again. I’m stoked we got Fowler, Washington and resigned a couple players for basically the same money.

Randy was so enticing and it’s the only reason I looked passed his often untimely stupid penalties.

We draft him and hold his hand for years and then he runs off to Denver??? Okay, Peace!

The resigning of Kearse can’t be stated loud enough. That dude was a baller and our second most valuable defensive player I believe after Micah. So glad we got him!
Great for me and IDP. Kearse played really well last year. And not just tackle stats. He was good in coverage, everything.

Agreed. Really like the player. While I expect some defensive regression, what we do going forward with roster depth is more important than I think many believe. Quinn can coach, but the talent has to also be signed.

We also should expect a step back in offensive production, too.

I don't share the doom-and-gloom.  Something was off with last year's team and it might have been the chemistry, or it might have been the particular players.  (I do have issues with McCarthy like almost everyone but am content with him for one more season and am glad they kept Quinn as presumed coach-in-waiting.)

I loved Cooper when we first got him, but honestly, he wasn't really THAT valuable this past season, and he showed some head-casery to boot.  I think the decision to let him go to provide salary-cap relief was a no-brainer.  And sure, Jones shouldn't have given that contract to Zeke; we all know that.  But Cooper as a resulting casualty just doesn't really concern me overmuch.  Frankly I think they'll miss Cedric Wilson more, but I have some hopes for James Washington.  And I'm glad they re-signed Gallup.

Losing Collins and Williams from the o-line is no big deal.

The Gregory sequence seems sort of silly until you realize that the Cowboys were clearly protecting themselves in case he did an Aldon Smith.  And he wasn't interested.  So be it.  I liked him but he'll be 30 with baggage and had 9.5 sacks over the past two seasons.  Fowler was a good pickup with potential and as I glance at the defensive depth chart after Kearse was re-signed, I don't see too many holes (well, not sure about LVE) and plenty of good players.

And all this is before the draft, which I think everyone can agree was a decent success last season (with many of the defensive investments possibly paying off this coming year).  They're not going to get someone like Parsons picking 24th, but they should be able to address some of their issues over the course of their slate, including a possible medium-term replacement for Tyron, a WR or two in a deep class, another RB in the Pollard mold for the post-Zeke era, and some LB and DL depth.

Ok - please provide me the glass is half full side?

Parsons is awesome. What else?

Draft thoughts???

Anyone?
Wow, most of the Cowboys fans are still reeling after the post-season based on lack of responses to this.

I would take Linderbaum, Zion Johnson, Kenyon Green or Arnold Ebiketie in the first.

Abraham Lucas has a lot of the measurables and could be a good replacement for our aging tackles.

I would really like to see is draft Chad Muma (hoping an increase in QB's drafted in 2nd and 3rd rounds pushes him to use).

I'm not sold on Simi Fehoko but I know he has blazing fast speed, based on his combine numbers - he might be serviceable; which could allow us to neglect WR for another year.   If not... Kyle Philips seems like a late round stud.

Kyler Gordon in the late 2nd or 3rd?

Marcus Jones? CB and Returner - really like this kid

Bryan Cook - seems like a stud, who could play WLB or Safety?

I also like Linderbaum.

Good with taking OL, DE, DT, CB or LB. Gotta be a year 1 player.

Lots of smoke/chatter about a trade up.

Oh good. A penalty machine.

i hear some good things about him from a few (could pay possible left OT), but it does seem like a guard in the 1st is not smart. Of course as an Eagles fan, i know a lot felt like i did that taking a LB high in the 1st was a terrible mistake  :bag:

I was hoping Jermaine Johnson would be the pick when he fell.  Undecided about the pick.  In doing some research, I'm hearing some pretty positive things.  Appears to be a physical beast and it seems his biggest weaknesses are coachable.  The Cowboys have drafted well recently and their last three first round O-lineman have been stellar, so I'm going look at this with hopeful optimism.

I don't know - call me optimistic, but I have grown to like our drafts.

It's overpaying players that are past their prime I have issue with.  *cough* Ezekiel Elliot *cough*

The first round track record is pretty good and there were no elite talents available in this spot. I've heard more than one draft analyst say picks 25-45 are all essentially players with the same grade, so just pick the player that fits. OL is a need and there is upside here, along with a staff that has a pretty good record of developing OL play. Not a home run, but not a strikeout, either.

Smith has a number of desirable traits: height, weight, and playing style. He's a massive human being with a maulers disposition. Sometimes you pick based upon a projection of growth over the duration of a rookie contract. That's what Smith is. He's likely to start immediately at RT and the run blocking, Smith's forte, has been lacking.

Oh, we have drafted well the last few, several maybe, years.

I was referring to our owners press conference after.

Will McClay is the man, very happy he was extended

I remember when everyone was questioning the Fredrick pick. As long as they keep spending picks on OL and DL I'm happy. Get WRs and DBs with all those round 5 picks.
