2023 Dallas Cowboys — 9-3 Philly heading to Jerryworld next (1 Viewer)

“ obviously, the linebacker made a great play “ and “ I thought I could try to fit it in there “

WTF is he talking about? It was into triple coverage, the linebacker was in the middle the entire time. Incredibly awful decision.

This team needs a quarterback that lines up behind center almost exclusively. We should be Smash Mouth, conservative football that wears opponents down by the fourth quarter.

Bah, get off my lawn.

What is the over/under on the total touches for Tony Pollard at season's end? Looks like he is currently pacing for north of 400.

Cowboys should inquire what it would take to get Stafford from the Rams. Stafford is going to get killed behind that OL in LA. Near the end of line for him, comes home to Dallas and leads the Cowboys to a Super Bowl or two. Dak ain't it, I'm afraid.

Dak and a first for Stafford?

What makes you think Matthew would want to go to Dallas?

A chance to win a Super Bowl? It's his home town? No state income tax?

They have a tough schedule coming up. They might squeak by and make the playoffs. But what's the point? This team can't compete with the best teams in the league.

I think it's TIME for COACH PRtonel!

They don't need a new coach. They need a new QB. I've been saying this for a long time now and if last night wasn't the definitive game to prove I don't know what more one needs to see. Dak is slow, off target, predictable and getting worse as he ages. I don't know how anybody can defend him any longer. He sucks. Vince Lombardi couldn't fix him.

I have been one of his biggest defenders, but I can no longer ignore your words.

I do wonder if some of it is because they’re running a 40 year old offense that was prolific when Joe Montana was around.

We have two choices, cut the reins and let Dak run again or find a new QB. Losing his running has closed down the open windows in the secondary.

Even then, I look faster than Dak.

It’s still a long season, and there’s time to right the ship, but this was a bad loss to a good team.

I think it's TIME for COACH PRIME.

I’ve been staying this BEFORE the Colorado thing. The timing is starting to look like it makes sense for a marriage.

There’s no way Jerry can resist and I want Dieons accountability and motivation. I know it sounds crazy. Don’t give me wrong, but this team needs something, they’ve been too conservative for too long.

Dude, this team needs something. But it ain't Deion at the helm.

Things aren't going to change until Jerry passes on. And then we'll have his son there to continue to eff things up.

I'm so frustrated. I was so sure this was the season. I know the 49ers are great, defense otherwordly but that's the mountain to climb in the NFL and Dak is like the Yodling Sweed from the Price is Right tumbling off the cliff. Hard to watch.

Ugh.

Call up Matthew Stafford today and give the Rams the world for him.

That would be interesting. I think the 2024 combined salary/cap hits for both QB's would be close to, or over $100M.

If anything, its Trey Lance time, they already have sunk costs on him and he's at least affordable.

I know, it's an impossible ask. I don't know what Lance would look like under center - the OL is not helping anybody out. The ground game is stale, receivers aren't helping. Bring back Troy Aikman!!!!111

Problem is Dak makes more than Stafford now. Rams are in cap hell already and won`t take an overpaid underperforming QB like Prescott.

Jerry should have let Dak walk when his last deal was up instead of extending him.

This was a statement game for Kyle Shanahan, beating the Cowboys like they had with CMC not being the focus like he was in previous games with his gameplan against DAL not only just put the rest of the league on notice, but gave a ton of confidence to his team. He has way more confidence in Purdy than he ever had with Garoppolo, whereas McCarthy doesn't seem to have much confidence in Prescott, and tweaking the offense to minimize Prescott obviously isn't working, like Shanahan did at times to minimize Garoppolo.

Losing to the 49ers is one thing, losing to the Cardinals, I mean the Cowboys are 0-2 against the NFCW. 11-6 might not even get them into the playoffs. You should be able to make the playoffs with that defense, but if they don't I don't see how McCarthy survives into the next.

Prescott was tight from the start. That comes from a lack of confidence. He makes questionable decisions and misses throws he should connect on. And his mobility is gone.

Dallas will win nothing while he is there. I don't think the team recovers from this beat down. They know they got beat by a significantly better team and they'll have zero chance if they have to face them again. They'll finish second in the division. May get in. But likely a first round exit.

The defense was exposed as well. Zach, Danny Dimes, Mac Jones and the like would make the LIttle Sisters of the Poor look good. They are fast and ball hawking which I love, but any team that can stay in the game and run for 4 quarters will give them trouble. If they get a lead and can pin their ears back it's all good. Schedule makes that the exception vs the rule

That's pretty dire lol, but Jerrah gonna live until 110. Unless he gets a bad batch from his blood boy.

Agree with everything here. The problem is, where does Jerry Jones turn? He's on the wrong side of 80 and some of these talented players are just getting older and aren't holding up very well, especially the OL which was a point of strength for so long. Does he turn to Dan Quinn and try to find an OC who can get the most out of his current squad? Does he go outside the organization and try to poach another coach? Does he beg Lincoln Riley to coach the team? Deion? Tick tock, tick tock.....

What is very clear is that this Cowboys' team isn't even close to the San Francisco 49ers. I mean, they got obliterated last night in all aspects of the game. As I said, it's frustrating for a fan, I can't imagine what the players are feeling. This was an undressing on national TV. Does a new QB change things? A new coach? Or is Dallas just so far behind the elite teams in the NFL that there's no catching them? Guess we'll know more when they play the Eagles, but like you said, the loss to the Cardinals was telling.

The Cowboys defense proved they can win games, Dak Prescott still proves he can lose them. Like he did in the divisional round in the playoffs last season, where the Cowboys defense held the 49er offense in check, and a better QB on the Cowboys would had won that game. What were the lessons learned from that game? Well if it were to tweak "Bad Dak" into "Less Bad Dak" and not "Good Dak" during the offseason, well now you still have "Same 'Ol Dak, but worse". The only real way to mitigate that is a dominant run game, go more "horizontal" in the passing scheme with easier throws, scheme/script drives to get the ball out quicker, etc. Don't let the QB press, make it simpler for him because when they press so goes accuracy ans decision making, forcing throws, into coverage, and one interception can make the wheels go off because you're trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

The Cowboys still have one of the best defenses in the league, but like in the aforementioned playoff game, better QB play would had given them a better chance to win last night. Dallas last night had only 197 yards of total offense and four turnovers, along with penalties that kept 49er offensive drives alive. Dallas made the game easier for Brock Purdy than it had for Dak Prescott. That isn't making an excuse for Prescott, but this is the only QB you have (I don't think anyone would realisticlaly believe Cooper Rush would had won that game if he started), and if his confidence was already shaky because you had to dumb down the offense for him a bit, now it's really shot.

I think both Prescott and McCarthy are gone after this season. McCarthy should share some blame for last night's performance. Maybe Jerrah doesn't care much anymore, losing to the 49ers in the playoffs would had stuck in his craw back in the day, and losing like this on prime time TV? To his once arch rival 49ers?

Just leaves more questions than answers at this point.

The body of work is clear:
This team feasts on middling and low level competition to build a deceptive statistical profile, making them sound “elite”.

When faced with good competition, the clear coaching and QB issues come out in perfect clarity.

If Dak is signed to another extension and McCarthy returns, expect more of the same.

This team will win 10ish games, likely play the AFC South winner, and perhaps win a road game, only to then be pulverized by SF or Philly on the road, followed by the usual sad sack press conferences about pressure and accountability.

Rinse and repeat.

But this isn't really even true. Arizona kicked their assssssssssss. Arizona has one win on the season - Dallas. That's it. That's the list.

God. Good thing I'm a Texas Rangers' fan, they'll never break your heart! :oldunsure:

Dak looks like the slowest QB in the league and his elusiveness is damn near zero. PFF had him ranked at 15th before last night and that’s surely dropping. I think that’s closer to his ceiling than floor. Time to draft another QB.

Id like to see Lance activated for games and when Dak has his next turd game, plug in Lance to see what he has. It's not like I have hope in Lance, but they traded for him, might as well take a look.

The real threat to success here is Jerrah's ego. Allow me to expand on that:

We all know why Jimmy Johnson stopped coaching the Cowboys(and STILL is not in the ring of honor). Jimmy took full credit for the success of the 90's teams, and Jerrah wanted the lime light. The choice was simple. Either allow Jimmy his due, or shun him and tell everyone it was his doing. Well, we all know how that panned out.

Jerrah is emotionally and egotistically tied into Dak. Until Dak retires, we're stuck with him. Which means we're stuck with 10-6 records and first round exits.

I agree with the Trey Lance talk. Wait a few more weeks for him to have full mastery of the playbook, then let him loose. Sadly, it'll never happen.

I get that everyone is railing on Dak today, but the defense got steamrolled. I know Parsons is a great player, but maybe he ought to keep quiet and stop worrying about his podcast and his brand and win something in the NFL first. Not saying that is the reason they lost, but talk and build your brand once you've been part of a winner, not when you are on a perennial playoff flop.

Agree with this. After that Giants lost to somebody hes online talking about how bad the giants oline played - We have to play them again! Theyre going to blindside his *** for talking about their jobs.

I think to a degree this is the root problem, behind Jerry. They get there and Jerry is such a salesmen, and these guys are such young kids, he uses the "Fame/endorsements" of being a Cowboy to try to help negotiate contracts. Which is silly in and of itself. But once these players start getting commercials, podcasts, appearances, etc - what I believe is they start "smelling themselves" much more than say any other team. No matter what they are a headline, they are famous, and in their eyes "they made it"

Now you got Micah basically saying "hey I do my job, maybe those other guys aren't doing theirs"

I'm sure he is a great teammate etc, but if I were another player close to his level I'd have a convo to maybe chill with the trash talking, the media appearances etc.

Part of me wonders if the Cowboys are cursed like the Red Sox were with Babe Ruth or the Lions with Bobby Layne. Either way, putting Jimmy in the ring of honor like he deserves could arrest any bad juju.

The bad part is - the ONLY conceivable reason Jerruh hasn’t let Jimmy in is because he wants to win a SB on his own so Jimmy has to see it.

I like Jerry A LOT but this one is hard to defend.
