2023 Dallas Cowboys Thread — 2-0 Arizona up next (3 Viewers)

So, in the past few days we did this:

Traded
4th round pick of next years draft
2nd round pick from 2020

Received
3rd overall pick from 2021 draft
30th overall pick from 2020 draft

Not too shabby.

I’m not sure Pollard can be a bell cow. He’s a fine back - but needs to be supplemented.
Still not sure why this narrative keeps being pushed by fans, when the people who see him every day, have years of NFL experience, all seem to think otherwise. Cowboys CLEARLY think he can be a bell cow based on all their moves/non moves.

With all due respect. It’s still evolving. I still think the plan is mix in other runners.

I would be shocked if Pollard gets used 25+ times a game.

Who do you think?

Zeke, Hunt, Fournette, etc. etc. didn't even get brought in for a LOOK the entire offseaon, but you think their plan all along was to "wait until a few days before the season starts to start looking for a random free agent"?

I suppose maybe all along they had their eye on a guy like Sermon or another RB they expected to get cut?

I'm not saying they shouldn't bring in another rb (well actually I am lol), but I haven't seen anything that suggests the front office WANTS to bring another rb in.

I do, yes. That doesn't make it any less true that your front office has shown little to no interest in bringing someone else in, or that they think he can handle 25 touches a game.

Maybe they like the idea of spelling him with Dowdle and Vaughn ?

I’ve said in the past that I thought they were going to abuse him for the reasons you mention but I’ve changed my stance.

IIRC, MM has never been in the top half of the league in rushing attempts. This new/old west coast stuff is going to feature a lot of short passes at the expense of the run. The fullback Hunter Leupke is going to get all the short yardage and goal line work as well as a fair amount of receptions.

Agreed. I think Dowdle and Vaughn will be the other guys and I don't think they're looking to add anyone else.

25 carries a game? I think Pollard would be good with about 14 carries/game. That would give him ~250 carries on the season. I think that number would be optimal.

I think if a vet like Conner falls in their lap for cheap they’ll do it. Would be silly not to imo

Me neither. Yet 😃

I never said carries.

I think 20-25 carries/targets is he will get. Again, not a single thing all offseason has pointed to The Cowboys thinking he can't be a workhorse back... in fact, quite the opposite. We shall see but I see more than a 65% share of the carries going to him this year.

Touches he might be around 17 a game.

He had 14.5 touches per game last year (Zeke had 15.5)... you think he only gets up to 17 with Zeke gone???

The least shocking thing you will see today

He'll be fine. Tyler Smith seems to be the more pressing concern as a hammy ain't nothing to mess with.

Cowboys wax the Giants 33-17 week 1 mark it down.

I think the opposite. I’m not worried about the hammy on the 20 sumthin on the stud, I’m far more concerned about Tyron. He misses 6-8 games every year.

I’m actually high on Daniel Jones this year but I’m higher on the Cowboys defense. I’d like to have the Giants coach and the Cowboys players but agree that the Cowboys are gonna win easily.

My score is 31-17.

I think we’re about to watch a 2 to 3 year stretch of Micah playing at an elite level that we don’t see very often.

Welp....good first game. The defense looked crazy good. I'll hold off until we face a good offense, but it is promising.

Other than the score, you nailed it. Great call and insight!
👍🏼

they lined up Turpin all over, do you think that will be the norm going forward, or was it more coaching staff taking advantage of a game out of hand to continue their assessment of him? he looks quick but not sure he did much with the opportunities.

He’s scored a touchdown on one of them.

As Banker just alluded to, we really can’t take too much away from this game other than the Cowboys defense is primed to be special.

It was monsoon like conditions and both teams struggled in the passing game.

Great start to the season. I would prefer more from Rico, but small complaint. The Turpin runs were a surprise as was them lining up at the five with Deuce in the backfield, McCarthy is going to have some different looks compared to last year.

Im tempering my excitement on the D, would love nothing more than what we saw yesterday becoming the norm.

Great game - but burn the tape. Don’t get hurt patting yourselves on the back.

Offense needs some reps. Rust was evident.
i agree with the above, but still have to say i didn't see that beating coming at all. I do think the Cowboy's teams in the past few years have fallen in that trap of winning a good game only to have a letdown, but that team last night looks like it can handle a letdown and still come out with a win. It was like they shell-shocked the Giants and absolutely took their heart and soul. I think some of that is on the Giants, but the Cowboys defense is more legit than i had given it credit for. Will be a fun season!

This is not a homer post, or meant to stir a reaction from my Philly friends.

However, really not impressed with the Birds. I really like our chances to handle them.

Seem off, slower and very vanilla. Play man outside, stuff the box and the run and get home. They will struggle over the course of a full game.

They certainly haven't played their best.

Looks like they're running at 65/100. I think that number goes up.

Right now SF and Dallas look like the class of the NFC.

The vaunted Philly D has given up 48 points the first 2 weeks. 300/3 to Mac Jones and 360/4 to Cousins, and neither has a decent running game. If Mayfield lights then up next week, Eagles fans are gonna have to be worried.

They are very likely to turn it around and by no means am I taking them lightly. Still a very good football team.

I just like how we match up at the moment.

As mentioned - I’m not talking trash or trying to be inflammatory. Just what my eyes see. You guys look a step slower or just slightly out of sync.

Never apologize for winning, congrats on your 2-0 start and easy up coming schedule.

All good! No offense taken!

Down the MLB, starting safety and missing your All Pro CB definitely doesn't help make things look in sync. And being honest, the Offensive play calling is a definite "need for improvement" area.

But in the end as far as the line of scrimmage is concerned, we are still pretty good there on both sides. As long as that stays as is, I think we can figure the rest of the stuff out.
