2023 Las Vegas Raiders - RIP Jack - one of the greatest Super Bowl moments ever (3 Viewers)

Amik get knocked out? That was a really weird reaction of his body after contact.
Ive seen many a boxers arms go straight out and up in the air while lying on their back, like they are reaching out to god as their souls leave their bodies for a moment

Sure hope they enjoyed those cigars…
McD is gone but the Raiders still lack talent on the field. At least we don’t have to watch Jimmy G and should have a decent idea on the ability of AOC as an NFL QB.
Im watching for a display of heart when things are tough, this is a great test
Spillane shows that heart i was looking for , this whole team is playing with heart

great win !!!!!

not sure what people were expecting on offense. this is o'connell's second start without mcdonkey running the offense into the ground and the jets have one of the best defenses in the league. starting left tackle was out and the offense wore down the jets D in the end. there isn't a defense as good as the jets for the rest of the season.

I think one of the biggest weaknesses on offense is at center. not much the team can do about it this deep into the season. it's definitely hurting the pass and run game having a weak center.

the offense is playing a physical game that can wear down a tough physical defense. what can they do against weaker defenses? maybe closer to what happened with the giants, or being able to control time of possession with jacobs.

the teams that concern me most are the teams the league seems to favor, like the chiefs. not sure the refs will allow for raiders offense to go run heavy and keep mahomes on the sideline.

Agree. The middle of the oline is a weakness. I have seem both guards and the center get physically abused at different times this season.

AOC is elevating the offense, but he is an upgrade over Jimmy G. They are playing with intensity and I like some of the play calls by the OC.

Crosby continues to elevate the defense. Jenkins and Tillery are solid.

Man, this was such a good take until the conspiracy theory...

Still,"McDonkey" made me lol.

there's no "conspiracy theory" to it. the nfl is a multi-billion dollar industry. they do what is best for business and sometimes that means favoring certain outcomes/teams/players.

the nba does it too. I'm a lakers fan and they were 100% handed a win in game 6 of the western conference finals against sacramento. it was better for business to have a game 7. tim donaghy a former nba official even pointed this out. I'll believe someone with inside information like donaghy over any fan. if the nba does it, the nfl does it too.

I think we saw what most of us expected. The Raiders are an average team on both sides of the ball while the Jets have a great D and a underwhelming offense. The Raiders are starting the season over and it’s not going to be pretty for a few weeks as the O finds its way. The O goes as AOC goes.

Lost in all the fervor of this win was the 1st TD of rookie TE Mayer

It's a seven-yard catch Michael Mayer will never forget...maybe.

Leaping over Jets safety Jordan Whitehead, the rookie tight end nabbed the ball out of the air for the Raiders' lone touchdown on the day in the 16-12 win over the Jets.

But Mayer wasn't really aware he Moss'd his defender and "blacked out" from the excitement of scoring his first career TD.

"I have no idea what happened," he said with a laugh. "I think I like spun the ball or something and just stared into the crowd."

Even if he might not remember the moment he came down with the catch, he does remember the perfect toss from QB Aidan O'Connell straight to his hands. The two rookies have been building chemistry since Training Camp and have come far from the early days of the preseason.

As they transition with an interim head coach in Antonio Pierce and new play-caller in interim offensive coordinator Bo Hardegree, Mayer and O'Connell are focused on doing all they can to help the team reach new heights while still acclimating to the pros.

"That's something I've been looking forward to since the day I got drafted here," Mayer said. "Honestly, it's about the team. It's about everybody running the route they needed to run. It's about Aidan putting the ball up there for me. Really, that was one of the best balls of the day for him because he only put it where I could get it. There's no way the defender could've gotten that ball. Beautiful throw from him. Kudos to him and a good play-call there too."

There was no Kolton Miller either, that's kind of a big deal.

Our only chance against Miami is to dial up the pressure, and win the turnover game.

On behalf of South Beach and the city of Miami, welcome to Hard Rock!

-Looking forward to what has become a challenging opponent for the Miami Dolphins. Crosby could wreck what was thought of as a good chance for a Miami win.
-Applaud the ability to admit McDaniels was a mistake and correct course while still time.
Flip side is you beat both New York teams spiraling out of control in 2023. This will e a good test for you and now The Miami Dolphins as well.

Good luck this week, I will launch the game thread in the coming days "Rematch of '74" almost 50 years. Good riddance McDaniels, on to new horizons
Cheers!

That Miami offense has speed all over the field and is likely going to give LV fits. Hopefully playing that Jets front 7 battle tested the Raiders O line last night and they can impose their will on the Miami D line. LV must establish a strong running game and keep Miami’s offense on the sideline or things could get ugly.

I just saw this...

AFC West QBs vs Jets defense

Wilson: 103.7 rating
O'Connell: 72 rating
Herbert: 65.4 rating
Mahomes: 63.6 rating

The Jets have one of the best defenses in the league. We didn't light up the scoreboard yesterday but that is tough to do against them no matter who you are.

Despite the lack of a lot of points I thought the offensive staff did a good job yesterday. I thought the plan and play calling was solid. They stuck with the run and wore the D down a bit. They knew the Jets offense wasn't going to put up a ton of points and came in with a good plan to win a low scoring game. The only way the Jets are scoring a decent amount of points is if their D gets turnovers and sets up their offense with short fields. Even with the conservative game plan there were moments that showed creative offense/play calling like the 4th down conversion on the Carter run.

LV has come off playing the Jets and Giants in back to back weeks. Arguably, neither team is playing a QB that should be employed by the NFL, let alone actually playing. Next 5 are against KC 2x, LAC, Mia and Minn. Give them 1-4 here? I want to see Pierce function against teams with legit NFL QBs. I am not a Pierce fan. He was a joke when he passed thru the NYG, involved in the whole Burress thing and abandoning his dogs during the Super Bowl. In today’s NFL and society, we like to overlook bad deeds, but let’s hope karma catches up here and knocks Pierce down a few pegs.

Great win last night and it’s awesome to see the Raiders play with so much heart and physicality. That was a tough, hard hitting, hard fought game and win.

But I hate to be Mr Negative so soon after a win but the Jets should have won that game. They shot themselves in the feet multiple times with stupid penalties and missed opportunities. Sounds like a team we know right?

The defense plays hard and with effort, but there’s still a lack of talent and consistency throughout all levels. They are 2-0 under AP but a couple stats that concern me during that timeframe:
DeVito 12/15 125 yds 1TD
Wilson season high 263 yds
Allowing lousy QBs to go off against them has to stop, while the defense has become a solid D, it’s not a top D or a dominant one. In stretches it’s great and awful, all in the same half of a game. They need consistency. If they can’t find it Tua and Tyreek and their team mates are going to bring the AP era crashing to Earth in a hurry. AOC is who he is right now, a rookie QB learning with his rookie OC and HC, the offense is going to be a work in progress.

Bottom line, the Raiders won last night but the Giants and Jets are a nice warm up. Here comes the Fins and Chiefs, the lack of talent and experience will probably get exposed, let’s see how far heart and emotion will take them.

another Win! The team looked ok. Peter’s avoided hitting anyone as usual. These next 5 games are going to be rough. They just don’t have the offense to hang with Mia, KC or the dolts

"the jets should have won" you could say the same about the raiders with some of their losses. you are what your record is and the team is 5-5.

the plan for miami is going to be run heavy. keep their offense off the field and wear their defense down with physicality.

if it becomes a shootout. it won't be the jets defense o'connell is facing.

i just hope when Pierce refers to his players as “my dogs”, he feeds them and lets them go to the doctor.

I'm also not a fan of Antonio Pierce. I remember the press conference he held when he kept blowing the air horn whenever a reporter would try and ask a question. All class. And the dog story doesn't help matters.

But that's neither here nor there and I don't feel like taking the glow you guys have for the guy in this thread, so I won't go too far into it other than, much like I said with Robert Saleh, caveat emptor.

Admittedly, yesterday annoyed me, as a Jet fan and a football fan. Lots of praise being heaped on Pierce by the announcers and, par for the course, his past is kind of white washed. I know NFL partners don’t talk about bad deeds, heck, you wouldn’t be able to root for many of these guys if so, but i am not a fan of an animal abuser. Yeah, LV is 2-0 under Pierce and you don’t pick your opponents, but jeez, the NYJ and NYG aren’t exactly NFL teams right now. I can’t stand watching the NYJ be embarrassed on national TV, it is compounded by the Pierce-Lombardi love shown by Tirico/Collinsworth. It’s just hard to watch the NYJ.

Nothing personal, i don’t know him, i am not a Pierce fan and want to see him tackle Mia and KC 2x.

I looked into your gripe and get where you are coming from with the dogs, as I too am a beloved dog-owner and admirer, but I also know that underprivileged cultures around the world don't treat their dogs with anywhere near the same kindness and respect that you and I do. I also know that the way someone was raised has a lot to do with this, so I'm not going to condemn him for this the way you are.

And as far as the Plaxico situation - he was clearly trying to protect his homie. He didn't make the most logical choices in doing so, but the choice to do so doesn't at all reflect poorly upon his character to me - quite the opposite, in fact. Judgement and decision-making are a different story there, but I'd like to believe that in both these instances, coach AP has learned and grown as a human and as a man.

Here's an article that condemns Pierce for the cases mentioned above. Reading the facts of both cases, rather than the author's assertions, and putting them into the context I laid out above, makes me feel a lot less concerned about these incidents.

this is a great post, i appreciate it. hey, everyone gets the benefit of the doubt and second and third chances. i know what pierce was doing with burress, but he wasn’t a teen, he was what, 30? maybe he’s grown since then and learned. but trying to hide a gun incident shows some spotty judgement.
compounded the dog stuff. i mean, you are what you really are when people aren’t looking. it just irked me that a national broadcast was putting this guy on a pedestal seemingly.

this is an issue i have in all of society, across all facets, but especially sports. we tend to overlook everything for the here and now.

when the jets employed vick i nearly vomited myself. i still rooted for them and still do, but they lost some credibility with me.

You realize he is a rookie on his.... what.... 3rd start?
Sure do. I’d like to see some improvement in the plodding way he goes about everything  I’m hoping he starts looking more like a day 1-2 guy, instead of what he is, a 4th rounder. The team needs so many hole/depth spots to be filled, it would be nice to not need a qb. But at this rate, they will definitely be taking one with one of next years first 3 picks.

The game is always so much faster for rookies when they come to the NFL , things will slow down and he will see things and process them faster , im sure of it. He hasnt even played 4 full games yet , other rookie QBs have been playing all season so far and havent shown any real improvement , aside from C.J Stroud . It would be nice if people just enjoyed wins without the foreboding future predictions . Personally i have no idea what to expect the rest of the way , but even last night ,when the Jets had the ball last , i wasnt saying to myself ''they`re gonna blow it like they always do ''

he did plead guilty to the dog charges and gave them up.

i don’t want to derail this thread. i can root against pierce. i can hate aaron rodgers for being a goof though he is on the jets. i can hope saleh gets fired.

can i now remind everyone that the NYJ beat the Raiders at Shea in the 68 championship game aided by a late long reception by Don Maynard that might not be a reception nowadays and because Daryl Lamonica threw a wind aided lateral when Oak likely would’ve won? :)

I want someone to win games, not marry my sister.

If you root for a major league sports team, you have at some point or another rooted for woman beaters, animal abusers, tax cheats, and bad tippers.

Being on the opposite side of Phil Mushnik is always good policy.
this is pretty accurate. lots of bad actors to go around. i always say i only care about what happens between the lines.

Oh he was full of niceties last night in the Jets /Raiders game thread

also, remember that time a steroid fueled lyle alzado ripped the helmet off of chris ward and tried to hit him with it? now that’s jets v raiders! not wilson v neil o’connell.

He certainly hasn't been perfect, but he's shown flashes, which is what I want to see from rookies. Next we need to see growth rest of this year. You see a plodder, whereas I am seeing a guy that's calm under some crazy pressure. That's not enough to succeed, but it is a common trait among successful NFL QBs.

Then why bring just AP`s transgressions ? Pretty sure most fans know whats up , seems petty and soapboxish (i just invented that word :P }

I like the way AP has turned the whole attitude of this team around 180 , im not going to cancel him out as im no angel either

he also had mcdonkey coaching him until the last 2 games. there is much room for growth and improvement with a new head coach and offensive coordinator. both for o'connell and the rest of the offense
