HENDERSON, Nev. – The Las Vegas Raiders have signed free agents LB Darius Harris and QB Chase Garbers, the club announced Tuesday.
Harris, a 6-foot-2, 232-pound linebacker joins the Silver and Black after spending three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played in 28 games (six starts) and totaled 55 tackles (34 solo), 1.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and two passes defensed.
Garbers rejoins the Raiders after originally signing with the club as an undrafted free agent in 2022. Last season, he spent 15 games on the practice squad before being elevated to the active roster for the final two games.
In corresponding moves, the Raiders have released TE O.J. Howard, T Justin Murray and waived LB Kana'I Mauga.

Man, if only...
Such a terrible injury for that guy, glad to see he still managed to put together a career. Looks like he averaged 8 tackles/game (combined, only 4 solo) last year with the Giants, so maybe he still brings some ability to the mix as a situational guy?
I don’t know, but maybe that’s a good sign for O’Connell. Maybe Garbers gets most of the work in the final preseason game and they keep 3 QBs and save Aiden for the season. I’m guessing he and Hoyer get the bulk of the work in the 1st 2 preseason games and joint practices.

Got damn Raiders sucking me into the preseason hype once again. Glowing reviews so far from the homie Hondo C. And Mad Maxx seems to be taking his game and leadership to another level this season. Adams seems like a similar dude for the O. It's been a while since this team has had big-time leadership on field in terms of ability/production and personality.

I feel like this team can easily go 3-14 to 10-7. For the first time in a long time I honestly have no clue what this team is capable of doing. So I guess there’s some intrigue in that.

The big key is the defense. Outside of Crosby, the defense is a cluster of hopes, dreams, and bets. Inevitably there will be misses.
On offense, the Oline needs to continue to improve in pass pro from the improvements they saw over the season last year. I think Mayer and Renfrow are the keys here... if Mayer gets to speed as a rookie quickly and Renfrow returns to form then the offense should be more efficient than it was last year.
As bad as things were last year there were several games that they should have won.
A repeat 6-11 should be the floor. There is just so many "have to work out" on defense situations with new players or playing better or rookies etc, I think the ceiling is 9-8. My expectation is 7-10.

Notes and Observations from Day 7:
Offense
- All four quarterbacks are looking more comfortable within the offense, making noticeably quicker decisions with the football.
- Tre Tucker is beginning to set himself apart, not only among the rookies, but on the team. To my eyes, he's improved his route running and catching tremendously since first arriving in rookie minicamp, and has been put in a lot of different situations within the offense since pads have come on.
- "Very mature guy, very bright," Head Coach Josh McDaniels said of Tucker on Wednesday morning. "He's a very good fit relative to our group. He learns very quickly, and I think that's a really good trait to have for a young player. He's not a big error repeater. He can take something, a correction, and then try to make that correction show up on the field the next opportunity that he has. ... Takes the corrections to heart, and then implements them into his game. I think he's been great to work with."
- Two offensive linemen that made an impression were Jermaine Eluemunor and UDFA tackle Dalton Wagner. Eluemunor started all 17 games last season and looks like he has no desire to relinquish that role. Wagner is a massive human being, standing at 6-foot-8, 320 pounds. He received an 80.5 offensive grade from Pro Football Focus his senior season at Arkansas.
Defense
- Marcus Peters was brought to the Raiders to create turnovers, which is what he did in Wednesday's practice. He stepped in front of a route for an interception during 7-on-7 drills, drawing a rave reaction from the fans and his teammates. The Pro Bowl cornerback has 32 interceptions and six pick-sixes in his career.
- Marcus Epps seems to be one of the best free agent pickups the Raiders made. He communicates well with the defense on the field, and has a knack for being around the ball.
- Interior defensive linemen Jerry Tillery and Nesta Jade Silvera had some flashes. Tillery earned some playing time with the Silver and Black last season after joining the team midseason. Silvera, the team's 2023 seventh-round pick from Arizona State, could develop into a nice steal.
- Linebackers Amari Burney and Luke Masterson were thumping around in the backfield Wednesday. Two young players that seem to be picking things up quickly.

Agreed 100%. That said, I gleaned a some notable tidbits from your boy Rick James Hondo...
1. He sees WAY more speed this year compared to last couple years on both sides of the ball.
2. They are tackling to the ground already and there is an air of heightened physicality and nastiness compared to years past.
3. A bunch of rookies (including the UDFAs) and FA pickups are looking good already, including names we've barely heard of on all three levels of the D and also the OL, which if a plus unit, is helpful to defense as it keeps the opponents' O's off the field.
Hondo's been covering the team for 3-4 years now. Maybe he's seeing what he wants to see. Maybe he's seeing something real. Not sure yet, but the above observations are music to my ringing ears.
Also 100%. Though no big names were added, there is hype already regarding a couple UDFA OL'men, Curtis and Wagner. The other aspect to consider for this, is that Carr was not consistently making quick good decisions last year. He was lost in McD's system too often, which led to sacks and poor throws. For all of Jimmy's G's flaws, there should be optimism that he'll run the offense better and get rid of the ball quicker, which helps hide the OL's pass-pro flaws, a la Brady his entire career, albeit on a much poorer man's level.

FYR Carr was sacked at a 5.1% rate, on par for his career average. But he was clearly lost at times which lead to hesitation and a career high interception rate of 2.8%.
He was a bad fit with McDaniels, which really isn't a surprise.

If Jones is closer to his career than last year then that will go a LONG way to improving the defense. Then, if Wilson is legit, you can rotate these guys through and I like the talk about kicking Wilson in the inside on obvious passing downs (something that talked about forever with Cle and always thought that they should have done more of) A front four of Crosby and a better Jones on the edges and then Tillery and Wilson inside is a pretty good pass rush.

Notes and Observations from Day 8:
Offense
- Brian Hoyer shined among the quarterbacks on the field, connecting with a wide array of receivers throughout the day.
- Second-year running backs Zamir White and Brittain Brown both caught touchdowns while working on red zone drills during team period.
- Rookies Tre Tucker and Michael Mayer had another impressive practice in the passing game. The anticipation to see them on the field in the preseason is building.
- The right tackle competition continues to ramp up with Jermaine Eluemunor and Thayer Munford Jr. splitting a majority of reps at the position.
- While Jakobi Meyers was the most notable addition to the receiving corps this offseason, free agent signings Cam Sims and Kristian Wilkerson stood out. They're becoming sleepers to keep an eye on for the duration of camp.
Defense
- Overall, it was a great day for the defense. They were collectively stingy with giving up yards and forced a few turnovers.
- Several defenders stepped up and nabbed interceptions including Robert Spillane, Jakorian Bennett, Isaiah Pola-Mao and UDFA Jaydon Grant from Oregon State.
- Bennett and Pola-Mao continue to stand out – not only because of the interceptions. Bennett has great speed that allows him to stick with receivers, while Polo-Mao is an exceptional downhill runner that flocks to the ball.
- On the defensive line, Jerry Tillery continues to turn up the pressure. He's been a consistent force for the interior rush, complementing Maxx Crosby well.
- George Tarlas saw an uptick in reps. The UDFA had four sacks in his senior season at Boise State.

Not to pile on, but not necessarily. I think there are certain reporters that write fewer clickbait pieces than Florio does. He often speculates about things and passes them off as if he has inside knowledge when in reality he's just connecting dots that might not really connect.
I don't know. I'm wary of Florio and his attempts at reporting.
Just my two cents. Not a hill I want to die on, but I follow the league and that's the impression I get of Florio.

It's a fair impression. One thing I do like about Florio is his willingness call out media and league members when they do not employ best practices in their work. He has also demonstrated a willingness to admit when he's wrong. So if he says he has "...a source with knowledge...etc" I have no problem accepting it
This wasn't a speculation piece whether it was a set in stone statement from Jacobs or something he, or one of his people threw out out there without much real consideration we have no idea.
But if the Raiders rescind the tag there won't be big dollars available so why not make yourself available to the team with the best chance to win the Super Bowl?
Making a meaningful contributions to a ring wouldn't hurt his negotiating position in 2024.

This news coming out of camp doesn't make me nervous about the offense, but excited about the defense. The Raiders have never had a ball hawking defense like this being reported in over 20 years. Jimmy G has never been a QB to throw a lot of Interceptions, these picks in camp are a timing issue he’s trying to get down with his new receivers. Jimmy G had a 16TDs and 4INTs last year. It’s nice actually seeing the Raiders Defense fly around.

Notes and Observations from Day 9:
Offense
- Jakobi Meyers was dominant on the field, making several difficult catches throughout practice and connecting often with Jimmy Garoppolo during red zone 7-on-7 drills.
- Zamir White continues to make the most out of every carry. His unique mixture of speed and power have made him a sight to behold, bringing a lot of physicality with him Saturday morning.
- Greg Van Roten was impressive to me on the offensive line, as he continues to compete for a spot. The veteran lineman has started 27 games across the past three seasons for the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills.
- Davante Adams made another contested highlight reel grab in the corner of the end zone during team period. The fans in attendance roared after the touchdown.
Defense
- The stock is rising fast for rookie cornerback Jakorian Bennett. He made a few good plays on the ball, almost coming down with two interceptions he probably wishes he could get back.
- Another rookie who stood out Saturday was Nesta Jade Silvera. The seventh-rounder has a mean streak to him that's visible when his number is called upon.
- Amik Robertson jumped a route during 1-on-1 drills for an interception.
- Cornerback Marcus Peters and safety Tre’von Moehrig also came up with interceptions during 11-on-11 team period.
- Adam Butler saw a heavy amount of snaps in the interior defensive line rotation. The former New England Patriot/Miami Dolphin has 17 career sacks.
Special Teams
- Nate Hobbs saw some punt return action, along with Ameer Abdullah and DeAndre Carter.

There may be hope in bringing my older son to the Dark Side.
He is starting up his 3rd season of football in 5th grade. Even though they want to use him in a skill position on offense (something he wasn't able to do the first two years due to size and weight limits) he still seems more excited about defense. He can play any position on defense from DT to the secondary. He just has an unusual very good blend of size, height, speed, agility and overall athleticism and one of, if not the best, conditioning on the team thanks to him being in club swim. Last year he played mostly DT on defense with some DE and even a little OLB in a 5-2 alignment (hardly ever throw at that age). I think the best spot for him to use his abilities is at DE. Plus, this year they have a couple of boys that can play DT that are a bit taller and heftier than him and they have a good amount of smaller kids with good speed.
Anyways.... the whole point of all of this is he is getting super excited about DE. in the past he has been obsessed (still is really) with speed. So, it wasn't totally shocking (though still deeply disappointing) that Tyreek Hill and thus the Chefs became his favorites. (I had him pointed towards Ruggs and his jersey number is even 11 because of that push but we all know how that ended up).
I have been talking to him about effort and always keeping the motor running. That if he doesn't give up on ANY play and goes hard until that whistle blows then he will make 1 or 2 more plays a game and in football that can be the difference of the game. I mentioned Crosby because he is probably the best example of this. He perked up and he showed more interest in Maxx so I kept chatting him up about why Maxx is so good and how exactly good he is compared to the other NFL players. I read an article on The Athletic that mentioned how Crosby runs extra sprints at practices which goes directly into what I have been trying to encourage my sons mindset to be. So, I showed him that part of the article and his face lite up like 'wow'. So then we watched highlights of Maxx in both college and the Raiders and we broke some of it down, talked about his moved, his high motor and how he is held on almost every play but still keeps going. It was a good little Dad/Son time that went on much longer than his normal attention span for watching sports stuff (he loves to play but doesn't last long watching).
Hoping that that can be something that brings him to where he belongs. The only good thing right now is that he is no longer a Chef fan after Hill was traded..... comparatively having a son that is a Fins fan is much better than a Chef fan but I have always thought my kids would follow me in being stupidly in love with the Raiders.
