2023 Las Vegas Raiders - RIP Jack - one of the greatest Super Bowl moments ever (5 Viewers)

Maybe not Bosa but dealing Jones wouldn't be terrible. But who would want his contract?

I detailed this better upthread a few pages ago now. If they deal Jones the receiving team would only be on the hook for ~$2MM this year, and then could cut him next year without any dead cap. Raiders would save ~$2MM in cap this year (net of dead cap) and take a $12MM dead cap charge next year, which is almost certain either way, because they will surely cut him next year given the dramatic salary jump in 2024. Spotrac outlines all of this well.

Jones drama starting to become clearer for me all of a sudden. Just remembered that they have an extra week or so roster exemption since Jacobs signed late, allowing them 54. Someone needs to go, and my posts a few pages back explain how/why that someone is Jones and that explains why they aren't allowing him in the building, while awaiting trade options.

I think it could go either way. Kind of seems like the Raiders aren't 100% sure what this is about, at least no one has leaked it.

And if he wanted out, why delete everything?

I am fine with moving on if he's a problem, but we better make SURE. He better be completely useless as a player, because the cap savings is minimal. So the best outcome would be for him to produce here.

Oh yeah, I see where you going.......

You have a dirty mind
Brian Burns please. That's been bugging the heck out of me ever since they took Ferrell ahead of him.

Make it right Mark!!!

he forgot it was labor day :lol:

everyone was at home having barbecues with their families and jones went nuts :cry:
I think you are joking but that actually makes sense of all of it....

The facility being closed.
No one answering their phone.
Him deleting everything once he figures it out.

pre-workout + synthetic reefer and being locked out of the facility = lol

guy went nuts and didn't realize it was 3 am when he's trying to contact his boss

too bad they can't use this to get out of the bad contract, but hopefully jones can play better with reduced snap counts going to the rookie

I am confused.... this is from 2016

Raiders were looking to trade Chan and locked him out until they figured **** out - or at least that's how this appears. He was understandably pissed, but the meltdown was a bit much. Ah well, this is how it goes when you fall out of favor with McZiegler. Definitely don't agree with letting these situations unravel like this when they look to move on from players. Sets a bad tone with those who remain, IMO. Or maybe Chan (and Carr before him) are just diva idiots. That could be true too.

raiders may be able to break the contract with chandler. he's going AB mode
This is Instagram posts, right? I didn't miss him choking out someone after practice or anything?

Instagram posts?

Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels said on Wednesday that the team and defensive end Chandler Jones were dealing with “a personal situation and a private matter” when asked about Jones slamming the team on social media earlier this week, but Jones opted to go public again later in the day.
In posts to his Instagram account that have since been deleted, Jones showed the badge of a member of Las Vegas’ Crisis Response Team that he said the Raiders sent to his home. He said Dr. Heather Thanepohn, who is the clinical program manager of the CRT, told him he needed to come with them because he was “in danger.
Jones also shared screenshots he said are texts from August with McDaniels that suggest the issues between Jones and the team have been going on for some time. Jones said he won’t post anything else if the Raiders let him play in Sunday’s game against the Broncos and asked why no one has asked the team why they have sent him away from the team.
The Raiders still list Jones as a starter on their depth chart, but it’s clear that there’s a lot unknown about what’s going on between Jones and the team. There may also be reason for concern about Jones’ well-being and making sure he’s healthy is the most significant issue for all involved to deal with at the moment.

I have no clue what is going on but the idea that they were trying to trade him and locked him out doesn't seem plausible to me.

What team would want to trade for him? Or rather, what team would want to trade for that contract? Based off of last year, he is not performing anywhere near the level of the contract. Why would a team take that on and give up anything for it? I just can't see anyone giving up even a conditional 7th to get him on the roster and pay him after last year where he looked over the hill and unable to impact the game. He looked like day old toast last year. It puts the probability of it to me at less than 1%.

Maybe they were trying to trade him to the crisis response team.

The “pow wow” with AB and Aldon Smith is confusing. Two players that have absolutely nothing to do with McDaniels and Ziegler. The only link between them and Jones is Mark Davis. Maybe that’s where this is coming from. The top, Davis is not thrilled about paying the salary of an underperforming, over the hill vet. Who knows… All I do know is as the new season starts, the Raiders are gonna Raider.

Players going to social media is one thing, going to happen... hell to an extent most of the public probably exercises that type of frustration/venting exercise.... But it is the content of the messages that seem really off to me. I'm no expert in the mental health space (rather not an expert in anything at all actually), but there seems to be an undertone of a broken thought pattern that doesn't pass the (pardon the pun) sanity check for me.

This situation has flipped to being worried about a guys health, vs. drama between the team and player.

The only link between them is most likely mental health issues.

Sometimes it's not actually the Raiders causing the problem.

True, but the media sure likes to spin it that way.

Don't need to go to the media for that, just scroll up a bit.

What team would want to trade for him? Or rather, what team would want to trade for that contract?

I've explained it upthread a couple times. Any team trading for him would be on the hook for only ~$2 MM this year and could cut him w/o dead cap next year.

Raiders would receive ~$2 MM in cap savings this year and would take an already baked-in (and thus irrelevant to this decision) dead cap hit of $12 MM next year.

His contract is not a hinderence whatsoever to trading him.

And kudos to you for seeing that something wasn’t right in chandler jones land.

And BTW, the Raiders can cut him with similar results (reduces this years caps savings by like a $1 MM). They are also dealing with a roster exemption for Jacobs, which is set to expire any day now. I suspect that date is the deadline to trade or cut Chan.

Some interesting tweets re: Jones situation from the beat writers...
@VinnyBonsignore

FYI:
@Raiders
have until the end of the week on Josh Jacobs' roster exemption. They currently have 54 players.

@HondoCarpenter
Without details, fans won't understand this, but the way Josh McDaniels handled the Chandler Jones situation at his presser a few moments ago will be well-received in the locker room.

I saw something that said he stopped following Maxx Crosby.... I wonder if there was some sort of issues in the locker room

There is something going on that isn't a 'locked out to trade' thing.

Way too much smoke for other fires.

I don't disagree that this could be the case. It could also be that they put him on ice in order to work on a trade and he starting melting down publicly. Who knows, but I do like that Hondo vouched for McDaniels. Made me feel better about the situation for now, until we get more info. Weird situation all around - just hoping it's not another case of the Raiders not knowing how to file for divorce without major drama.

yes, he stopped following the Raiders and Maxx
Maxx had stated the following regarding Jones, "Everything's in house. We're good" (Good this time, not god!)

I think this is a scenario where a.) we will never be able to decipher what's going on. Applying logic to emotionally driving decisions never works, and b.) we will never find out.

Onto more upbeat news... Raiders are beyond lucky to have Maxx Crosby signed and sealed...

Maxx's contract last year: 5 yrs, $98 MM, $26 MM guaranteed at signing, $53 MM total guarantees ($19.6 MM per year average)

Bosa's contract just signed: 6 yrs, $189 MM, $50 MM signing bonus, $122.5 MM total guarantees ($31.5 MM per year average)

Sounds like Hondo knows exactly what is happening and is honoring the desire to keep it in house.... I mean, he can't burn his sources but still that is stand up thing for a journalist.

I might be willing to assign a small g god to Maxx

Oof, some not so good new details on the Chan Jones situation...

Click the link to read his posts and watch his creepy *** vid. Chan made a cryptic apologetic text to McD on Aug 18 for something he said previously, which I can only guess may have started all of this weeks ago when he mysteriously disappeared from practices. McD responded fairly coldly, which seems to have only set off Jones even more; and now he's threatening to release more vids and texts.

Can't fathom how he's not done as a Raider after this latest outburst. Expect a trade or release tomorrow. And my original cap math is confirmed by beat writers... Acquiring team would be on the hook for only $1.65 MM this year and nothing more. Maybe a team would be willing to float them a 7th to secure him that cheaply. Otherwise, he hits the open market and could dictate a higher dollar figure, depending on how many teams would overlook this very bizarre breakup.

Aint social media a #####

Nobody ever saw this crap before FB ...X .....Instagram ....ect;

If guys had something crazy to say it had to be on the news or somewhere people were with video cameras , now anyone can say anything at any time , unregulated and freewheeling .
