2023 Las Vegas Raiders - RIP Jack - one of the greatest Super Bowl moments ever (3 Viewers)

chandler isn't worth his contract, but the team would have been better with him on the field than having the rookie out there stuck in the mud.

not sure exactly what is going on, but they either gotta find a way out of the contract with him, or put the guy back in the starting lineup

What was true when he signed the deal, is true now: he was gonna be here for two years.

Wanting to dump him because he didn't kill it last year is pointless. As Chaka said, there's no great replacement on the street. So let's hope for Jones. People were so mad at him last year. Weird

Jordan Willis signed to PS. Potential Chandler Jones hedge.
I don't think there is anyone on the market that is a legitimate hedge against Chandler.

Lol, did you watch Jones last year?
Sure did. Every week.

My comment, which I stand by, is about the talent available on the wire.

Jones would immediately command the attention of multiple teams. He would last as a free agent only as long as he chose too. Everyone else available is hoping for even a tryout.

Maybe a sign as progress with Jones? Putting Rochell back on PS seems to indicate to me that they feel they 'could'. IIRC they only get so many times they they can promote and then demote. Would seem silly to me to put him back on unless you needed to.

Signed DE Jordan Willis to the practice squad; Released LB Isaac Darkangelo from the practice squad; DE Isaac Rochell reverted to the practice squad.

If I had to guess, I would say he's in a questionable spot mentally, and they just don't know.

Would not be surprised to see Willis get called up, moving Tillery to the middle. Let Willis platoon with Koonce. Wilson eases in, and get some snaps here and there.

Our interior defensive linemen are not behaving the way they were in the preseason. They were shooting gaps and stunting in August. Much more stay at home vs Denver. Just one game, but we need pass rush.

I was thinking along those lines but the thing I couldn't work out was why put Rochell back when you just signed Willis to the PS. Unless there is some rule I don't know, why wouldn't you just wait to revert him until you promoted someone else? I didn't see any corresponding moves that required the space.

Ugly wins are wins. We didn't get any of those last year and we found ways to lose this one many times. I am in the middle of buying a house so have had zero time to keep up and haven't seen it (not even sure if I have NFL replay yet) so I have to live vicariously through what others are writing. Currently I just stop at 1-0.

I think they have a roster exemption for Jacobs that's set to expire? They used it for Rochelle to cover Jones' absence for the game.

A few teams passed on Carter, besides the Raiders. Lions traded down for Gibbs, TBD, but Gibbs looks great. SEA picked a shut-down CB, TBD. ATL also picked Bijan, TBD, but they're far away from competing and Allgeier was very good in 2022, and 2023.

A DT who can stop the run and put pressure on the QB is the most valuable asset to a defense. Christain Wilkins ... rethink how much you're worth.

It's a shame neither Carter nor Wilson will play another game.

Good night. Don't forget to turn the lights off on your way out.

Turning the page on Denver and on to a p!ssed off Buffalo team.
~ JimmyG needs to play better, especially if Kobi can’t go this weekend. He’s going to have to spread the ball around, he’s got the weapons at his disposal, he’s just got to see them. They can’t come away from the Red Zone with zero points against the Bills period.
~ The running game needs to get going. Not only was Jacobs a little rusty last Sunday, it looked like the Oline got pushed around a bit. This weekend it will be huge for the offense if the big guys can start enforcing their will on an undersized DL built on pass rushing and get JJ some space to run in the interior like they did last season. Plus that will keep Allen on the sidelines.
Defense is simple… Turnovers, no penalties and someone make a big play, whether it’s a strip-sack, INT; something, make something big happen. The Jets beat the Bills because they won the turnover battle. The Raiders must do the same. They lucked out last week losing the TO battle and time of possession and still won. That formula will not work against the Bills.

It's a shame neither Carter nor Wilson will play another game.

Between you and Joe it's impossible to even try to have a little fun around here FFS
Sorry.

I was one of the biggest advocates around here for picking Carter over anyone. Didn't happen and the Raiders won this week. What's the problem?

Will Zamir White ever get more than 1 or 2 carries per game? He got 1 red-zone carry in game 1, which is good. But nothing after that. Jacobs is good, but even CMS and Ekeler get a breather.

Is he's not that good, or is it too early to say? He's the last RB on my bench.

I think White is more Jacobs injury insurance than anything. A guy who can carry the ball 15+ times if need be no matter how unspectacular he is. Abdullah is not that RB. That being said, if Jacobs stays healthy, I don’t see White getting a whole lot more work as McDaniels has shown in the past he will run Jacobs into the ground. Especially if the Raiders don’t plan on keeping him in 2024, what’s the point of saving him if they plan on moving on from him? Basically, White will have little fantasy value unless JJ or Abdullah gets injured.

The problem is that the Raiders could have and should have chosen the superior player. Good teams draft well year after year. Bad teams don’t. The Raiders are not a good team.

The problem is Jalen Carter... For every OC the Eagles face this season and beyond.

I keep hoping they learn from their mistakes and learn from teams that draft well. Moving on from Gruden was a fantastic first step for LV. Now a talented team must be built. That takes time but the obvious decisions must be made.

100% agree. The last two decades are the proof.

The one and only pass the Raiders get for passing on Carter is the character concern. When you are trying to rebuild a roster and culture, that detail become paramount. Add in the Ruggs angle to pile on to that same concept for this team at least. The Eagles had the luxury of an established locker room full of strong leadership. Still stings to see him do so well, but I can at least square the circle with the above in mind.

It was so obvious 8 teams passed on him.

I wanted the Raiders to draft him, they didn't and 7 other teams agreed with that decision. Not a big deal.

Careers are not defined by the first game of rookie years.

Let's enjoy the victory and stop looking for reasons to complain.

Please get a note to #9 that he doesn’t have to count two Mississippi’s before rushing then. 😎

has tyree ever played at that type of elevation before?

could be a reason he had a rough time out there
LOL I doubt that's the reason.

He hasn't been able to work out for almost a year and he is stepping into one of the most complex defensive schemes in the league.

It's going to be a minute before we have much idea what he really brings to the table.

hasn't been able to work out for a year and playing at mile high? not a reason to have a rough game?

try not working out for a year and having your first nfl game at high elevation. most anyone will be struggling. it's not the only problem, but it was probably a major factor.

remember that game in mexico city against the pats? they stayed in denver to practice before the game and the raiders ended up looking like tyree as an entire team.

tyree didn't look good in preseason, but he looked a lot better than what we saw in denver

It has nothing to do with a complex d. He was a slow motion statue just getting out of his stance. I’d have to rewatch and see if the very first plays were the same slow motion in order to blame it on the altitude.

Careers are not made by one game. I hope I am wrong for preferring Carter. There are many seasons ahead.
The Raiders squeaked out a good win and can beat the Bills. Buffalo is not a great team these days.

I preferred Carter too. I think he can be John Randle. All I can do now is hope Tyree is Reggie White.

I am not terribly optimistic about beating Buffalo in Buffalo but...giddy up!

Not a lot of chatter period about the Raiders which is 100% okay with me. Stay under the radar and sneak up on these fools…
Along those lines, they’re doing something interesting this week. They’re at some remote resort in West Virginia having some sort of Kum-by-ya (sorry I have no idea how to spell that, phonetically you all can figure it out). I can’t remember the Raiders ever doing something like this for a 1 o’clock East Coast game in recent memory. Hopefully this does a few things:
Gets them acclimated to the time zone
More bonding, almost like a mini training camp.
And isolates the team to focus on football only and beating the Bills.

They're probably hoping Chandler Jones doesn't find them.

I heard about this too today from jt the brick. He also said that it means there’s almost no chance that jones plays this game.

Probably The Greenbrier, we've done that quite a few times in the last few years when we get back-to-back Eastern time zone games, never seen it only the week prior though. The Greenbrier is where the Saints have their training camp every year and it's a massive luxury resort so it's a good way to get focused up and avoid a big travel right before the game.

As stated above I didn't see the game but this one makes me happy:

  • According to SportRadar data dating to 2000, it was the first time the Raiders produced a clock-killing, game-clinching drive that exceeded five minutes.
Holy shnikes. I've seen with my eyes for the last DC years how we were never able to keep the chains moving in a game-killer, but 23 years???? That's insane.

(3:00 - 4th) (Shotgun) J.Garoppolo pass short middle to J.Meyers to DEN 49 for 7 yards (K.Jackson). LV-J.Meyers was injured during the play. PENALTY on DEN-K.Jackson, Unnecessary Roughness, 15 yards, enforced at DEN 49.

I wonder what McD would have done without the penalty? Does he ballsack up and go for it on 4th and 1 from midfield? Is he really going to trust that defense? They did hold them to 16 all day and we have a good punter so pin them on their own 15 with under 3:00 left and no timeouts? I almost wish we'd gotten to see that./
