2023 Las Vegas Raiders (7 Viewers)

^^^ No matter what, the regime does not get a pass. They signed this turd to a huge guaranteed contract after witnessing first-hand his original mental melting in New England. They are passing on college kids over character, but not big dollar free agents? His signing was an indictment of them long before he busted on and then off the field.

Yeah, I am back to a surly mood toward McDonald's & Co. Sorry.
The Raiders continue to be one of the most poorly run teams. It’s a shame that a once winning organization is stuck in the mud year after year.

I don't want to alarm anyone, but Hunter Renfrow is on pace for 15 receptions and 336 yards.

For the season.
How this happens is beyond me. No targets in the first game.... ok.... maybe, maybe that makes sense but then look at his snap count.... no, it doesn't make sense.

Then you lose your #2 WR on the team and he still isn't used.

And with the track record of them having slot recievers light it up in the league in NE over the years. IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.

Hunter changes his look in hopes of getting more passes thrown his way

Chandler Jones doesn't have any secret information about anything.

That couldn't be more clear. He isn't even sure if he has a god, step or foster daughter or not.

To view the Raiders through any lens other than compassion in this situation is a terrible disservice. Being upset with them for choosing compassion is even worse.

Compassion for the players is 100% on brand for Mark Davis.

Oh it does, if you focus on two words.

Big Mac.
You seem to be on the warpath brother.

The team is exactly where any reasonable person would expect them to be. Even then the Denver win wasn't a guarantee (the Buffalo loss was guaranteed). But you seem to be looking to collect pelts.

Not at all anti-compassion. Quite the opposite, actually.

I am just a far far away from convinced that the offender(s) in this situation is/are worthy of it. We shall see. Hopefully.

TBD. This is like a murder mystery escape room right now. Lots of clues. Several suspects. Some more obvious than others. No telling for sure what and who are what, just yet, except that there definitely seems to be a dead body in the midst.

That's a weak answer and you know it. Give us your theory.

Do you think someone in the organization...what? Molested Jones's god/step/foster daughter and he's holding onto that information?

What do you possibly think could have happened, based on Jones's comments that makes you think the Raiders organization did something horrendous?

Weak is supporting muppets like Jones and McDonalds because they are singing kumbaya while slinging arrows. Excuse me for spading.

Or don't. All good, man, definitely not looking for your pelt, or anyone else's around here. Josh'ol McDonald and his roomie OTOH can absolutely get some. I will not apologize for spitting up their kool aid after the last two weeks.

People can say what they want about Carr, but at least he spread the ball around , yes he spread it to the other team as well but so isnt JG .

Ive seen film of guys like Renfrow WIDE open yesterday and JG didnt even look at them..... wild.

Believe me, I don't take it personally and I'm glad you aren't taking this as a personal attack from me. It's not. Most of us have been here long enough to maintain respect throughout disagreements.

But I want to know how you are translating what Jones saying to something the Raiders have done wrong.

You're saying there's smoke so let us know what the theory is that leads to fire.

He's always been able to do that.

How did he do in the red zone?

Hes got a real mental block in the RZ for sure , but im using Carr as the example because he was the last guy and he did in fact spread the ball around in the same offense as JG is in now

I guess but, last year Davante had 86 more targets than the #2 target on the team (180 to 94) so...

It was strange watching DC play last night. He looked just like how I expected him to look, not HOF caliber, not terrible but just like the Derek Carr we all know. I will say this: I personally have more respect for his arm strength after two games with Jimmy G. Not even close.

Being the glutton for punishment that I am, I decided to watch the replay of the Bills game because I want a better understanding of what’s happening out on the field. Not trying to get on my soapbox, but everyone seems to forget this is a team game, from the coaches to the long snapper, everyone has to coach and play well. Even Patrick Mahomes needs a good Oline and WRs who can catch to win games.
My initial reaction after the game was another bad defensive performance. After watching again, I’ve changed my tune, this loss was on McD and JimmyG for the most part. And honestly, we need realistic expectations. These two have not worked together in 10 years or so, we can’t expect them to step right in and run the offense like a well oiled machine. It’s going to take time. Period. As fans, we should be doing cartwheels because we are 1-1, you know how many teams would love to be 1-1 right now? The HC of the Chargers looks like he’s about ready to have a nervous breakdown, seriously…
Point being, the offense is bad right now. When Puca Nacua has more receptions than Davante Adams, it’s a reflection of McD and JimmyG not adjusting to what the defenses are doing to them. The big thing I see, is Jimmy is not seeing the field yet. They can’t run the ball because the Donks and Bills game plans were to stop JJ and make Jimmy beat them. And so far it’s working and they’re still 1-1!!!
The defense was gassed in the 3rd and 4th quarters. That’s on the offense not being able to do anything which falls squarely on McD. I think the FA addition of Spillane, Epps and Peters have been positive overall. And the return to health of Hobbs and Deablo have been huge. I think those two have been playing lights out.
The DL is the weakest part. Wilson and Young are rookies, and obviously they aren’t ready. We’re getting absolutely nothing from Wilson right now. It’s going to take time. Unfortunately that’s my mantra, and the frustrating part is as fans we’ve been forced to wait for over 20 years and countless rebuilds. But hey, the good news is we’re heading into week 3 with a 1-1 record after playing two home openers in a row to start the season. That’s something good right?

Carr and Jimmy are about the same talent wise. The difference between Carr and Jimmy G is the team talent and coaching. NO has built a well-rounded team. LV hasn’t done that for decades and don’t seem to be capable of doing that any time soon.

Carr made some pretty strong comments post game about how great it to have a strong defense to win games when the offense isn't performing.

If there’s anyone in the league that would know, it would be Carr. He must be on cloud 9.

The Bills were clearly the superior team in all aspects of the game. Talent level, coaching, game plan, everything.

The season isn't lost. I still think the Bills are one of the best in the league (though some were piling dirt on them after their first week loss). There are some 'reasons' that the offense looks unable to do much.
1. Jimmy G missed most of all off season.
2. Josh Jacobs missed most of all season.
That are two huge parts of the offense that just were not there. JJ looks like he hasn't been playing football for a while for sure. I would think that he will shake off the rust and get into form soon. The timing with the offense and Jimmy G will take some time. However, I still can not figure out what the issue with Renfrow is. It really does boggle my mind. He is clearly a great WR and you don't have Meyer, how is he not more of the offense?
Similar to Jimmy G and JJ, Wilson missed most of all off season and hasn't done much period in recovery. His selection was about his potential and not his polished readiness. He shouldn't be starting right now because I don't think he is physically up to par and he has had almost no time to get coached up on technique. Jones having whatever issues he has is just bad for us. I mean, the guy was signed to a huge contract and then comes in and plays like poo last year. Supposedly was physically good to go now and then has this mental health crisis.

The good news is that we are still first in the division (I have no idea how the tie breaker works for our favor but we are) and among the NFL, if there is an offense for our defense to get right against the Steelers has to be on the short list (then again, their defense may pile drive our offense 6 feet under).

I don't care what the Steelers offense has looked like over the last three years or so far this year. I expect them to have multiple long, sustained scoring drives on Sunday.

The Raiders defensive philosophy seems to be to give up whatever the offense needs on third down. If it's third and five they will give up six yards. If it's third and 12 they will give up 14. Or they could commit a penalty resulting in a first down.

Maybe the Raiders will luck into a turnover, but I'm not expecting them to force any.

Matt Canada is a bad OC that should have been fired before this season. This could be bad for the Steelers though. Their offense will look completely different and good this week allowing him to keep his job and be bad for them in the long run.

Despite all this the Raiders could certainly win this game.

Why does it feel like the coaches are purposely holding this team back, like parents who are afraid to let there kids spread their wings .

Tre Tucker for instance could be the Raiders version of Zay Flowers , Baltimore is figuring out what they have in this kid yet the Raiders barely utilize Tre at all , not to mention all the other players that arent involved in this system .

Strange

Other than stature I don't think Tucker's skill set is anywhere near Flowers.

the over reaction this game is caused is unreal. this was always a blow out loss. all of your points are valid, except maybe renfrow. dude was great. got his bell rung and never returned to form. is this his 3rd qb more or less ignoring him? i know he had some production at the end of last year. this is starting to be more than a wtf, he's an awesome player being ignored!!. dude might just be a JAG now.

as to the tiebreaker, the raiders are 1-0 in the division.

Since 2021 when Canada was elevated to O coordinator, the Steelers have had 0 games over 400 yards of offense. In that same time, every other team in the league has had at least 3 games over 400 yards. Now I don’t know if the Raiders are historically bad on defense this year but the Steelers are not a team that moves up and down the field on really anyone. However, Watt is one of the most disruptive players in all of football. He can and has pretty much single handedly won games (see last night as an example). It should be a good game and I agree the Raiders could win. Outcome wouldn’t surprise me either way.

So I am trying to up the content I consume about the Raiders as I have been very light football-watching for a while now. Where is the best place to get podcasts or articles about the Raiders to keep in touch better? Thanks y'all and I'll have to dive into the Vegas trip guide when I finally catch a game in the new digs, and go to Vegas for the first time!

Current content intake is minimal as I haven't had the time and things are just starting to loosen for hobbies again.

Always happy to welcome new fans to the clan. This thread is a great place to start. Give it a few minutes and plenty of people will give you additional suggestions.

Ouch, that hurts. I have never had one of my sports teams win a title so might as well keep the pain rolling.

(This is within my lifetime/fandom)

The Athletic puts out good stuff... Raiders and other stuff often. (Just don't bring up Tafur to @DA RAIDERS cause it sends him into a rage). Vicent Bonsignore at Las Vegas Review-Journal does a good job often.

Bro…you really don’t know what a rage looks like. Tafur has just been a clickbait clown since last season at least.

Chandler Jones has been added to the NFI list by the Raiders.

I get 920am thru Tune In radio app. They have a raider-centric morning show, then a couple of hours of JT the Brick from noon-2, and then “Your Boy Q” from 2-4 or 5, I forget.

This is all for better or worse. Raiders-centric content is a blessing and a curse. And when they open up the phone line to callers…ugh…ignorance and blind faith abound. I have to turn it off. :)

I like the Raiders O a little more than thevSteelers O but the Steelers D will likely stifle the Raiders and win the game for them again.

I like the Raiders O a little more than the Steelers O

On paper, in theory, the Raiders O should be A LOT better than what we've seen in two games from the Steelers O. Problem is we just witnessed a good D completely manhandle and dismantle the Raiders O. Following that first series of scripted plays, it was one of the most mismatched games I've seen in a long time, especially when looking at the specific Bills D v. Raiders O sequences. 20 min time of possession says it all.
