2023 NFL Draft Contest! (1 Viewer)

Hot Sauce Guy

Ok Sharks - it’s that time again!. The NFL draft contest was a lot of fun last time out, so let’s try it again!

The rules are simple:

Give me your top 12 picks.

Whomever is most accurate will win 4 bottles of award-winning hot sauce at a heat level of winner’s preference.

Like running from a bear in the woods, you don’t have to be the fastest, you just have to be faster than your friends. Ya don’t have to be perfect, you just have to be better/more accurate than your fellow sharks. If 6/10 is more than anyone, you’ll win. If multiple people make the same number of correct guesses, then we go to tiebreakers.

Tiebreakers:

First tiebreaker is nailing pick #3. Why pick #3? Why not,

Second tiebreaker (if needed) is accurately predicting any trade inside the top 12 during the draft.

Third tiebreaker (if needed) is nailing pick #4

That should cover any tie for # of correct pick predictions.

Note: This is limited to one (1) entry per shark.

Note 2: this is limited to USA shipping only. You can enter from Canada or Guam, but the prize package will only be shipped to a US address.

Note 3: In the unlikely event that two posters have the exact same draft guesses, and there is no trade made in the top 12 predicted, and they both have #3 & #4 correct, the timestamp will be the deciding tiebreaker. just a little more incentive to get your guess in earlier.

Note 4: entries must be in by 11:59 PM PT on Wednesday, April 26th, 2023.

please try to keep editing to a minimum, and any edit *must* be time-stamped prior to midnight PT on Wednesday. Same deadline. 👍🏼

ETA: rules clarification & scoring system
You earn 1 point per correct pick.

If you pick a trade correctly that is worth 1 point

If you also pick the player picked that is worth another point.

Talk of the NFL not valuing RB's anymore seems overblown to me. The reason there hasn't been a guy taken in the top ten for 5 years is because there hasn't been a prospect worth taking in the top ten, not because teams don't value the position in my opinion. The last time there was a prospect worth taking in the top 10 they went 2nd overall in a good class.

Preaching to the choir - it’s like you copy/pasted one of my posts.

That said, I’d guessed top 20, not top 10. Gonna be fun to find out!

Bijan makes the Eagles better immediately. And reduces the hits on Hurts. They will draft defense at 1.30, I'm thinking DL or secondary.
I don't disagree, and I'd love to see it (other than the fact that they don't check down to RBs very often with a mobile QB) but IMO they go defense at 10.

PHI can get a good DL or Safety at 1.30. Do they also want a CB at 1.10? What if Witherspoon & Gonzalez are both gone at 1.10? The BPA on their board might be Bijan. Lots of permutations!

Thanks everyone for playing - loving these entries so far.

By the way, if a trade happened before the draft, you don’t need to list it as a trade.

The rules are simple:

Give me your top 12 picks.

Aside from tiebreakers, how is this scored? Is it weighted so nailing the early picks counts for more than getting later picks correct?

One point per correct answer.

When I last did this, I started out doing two points for correctly, guessed trades, but people pointed out that guessing a trade & a pick is basically the same as guessing a pick.

Should we edit our entries, or delete and renter? I'm having 2nd thoughts on Bijan in a Kelly green jersey.

So you only get the point if you get the player right PLUS the team that he goes to, right?

Correct.

The most basic rule of guessing a pick is…guessing the pick.

12/12 players selected top 12 is impressive, but worth 0 points in this contest if all the teams/picks are incorrect.

Okay cool, just making sure I understood.

ETA: The second tiebreaker is "accurately predicting any trade inside the top 12 during the draft". This is pretty clear but just to be super clear of the obvious, this would mean:
You must predict a trade of one of the top 12 picks, and the team to which that pick is traded. But not what was received in compensation for the pick, even if the compensation includes another top 12 pick.

Example: Suppose I predict Seattle trades the #5 to Tennessee, but I still have Tennessee keeping the #11 pick. But in actuality, Seattle Trades the #5 to Tennessee for the #11 and additional compensation. My prediction (#5 traded to Tennessee) is graded correct. Yes?

Orrr ... does the word "inside" imply that it does in fact have to be two picks in the top 12 traded to each other? Probably not. But worth asking.

Also. If one predicts a trade that does not occur in actuality, is the pick at that spot wrong no matter what?

Example: Suppose I predict that Houston drafts Bijan at #12. In actuality, Houston trades the pick to Cincinnati, and Cincinnati picks Bijan with that #12 pick. Is the pick good or not?

ETA: Oops, I meant vice versa. I predict Houston trades to Cincy, Cincy picks Bijan. But in actuality Houston keeps the pick and drafts Bijan.

1. Panthers - Bryce Young, QB Alabama
2. Texans - Will Anderson, DE Alabama
3. Raiders - (trade with ARI) - CJ Stroud, QB tOSU
4. Colts - Will Levis, QB Kentucky
5. Seahawks - Jalen Carter, DT Georgia
6. Lions - Tyree Wilson, DE Texas Tech
7. Cardinals (trade with LV) - Devon Witherspoon, CB Illinois
8. Falcons - Christian Gonzalez, DB Oregon
9. Bears - Paris Johnson JR, tOSU
10. Eagles - Peter Skoronski, OL Northwestern
11. Titans - Anthony Richardson, QB Florida
12. Texans - Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR tOSU

Final guess above. The 7-10 holes feel most difficult to pick of all of them to me and it's largely because I read them all needing the same bunching of positions (CB, DL, OL) so it is a matter of where they are on the respective boards. I also have to guess right about the right trade partner for the Cardinals, though I suspect the Cards will take either Witherspoon or Gonzalez depending upon who they trade with and how far they fall.

I think Houston would consider Richardson or Levis if either falls to 12 (or very stretch might consider Hooker), but with the board playing out how it did after 2, I think they go with the weapon JSN and consider moving up to the late first for Hooker or picking a mid-round QB and largely punt to 2024 on the position if a bigger trade as rumored (I.e. Mac Jones) doesn't go down.

1. Panthers - Bryce Young, QB Alabama
2. Seahawks - (trade with HOU) Anthony Richardson, QB Florida
3. Titans - (trade with ARI) - CJ Stroud, QB tOSU
4. Colts - Will Levis, QB Kentucky
5. Texans - Jalen Carter, DT Georgia
6. Lions - Will Anderson, DE Alabama
7. Raiders - Devon Witherspoon, CB Illinois
8. Falcons - Bijan Robinson, RB Texas
9. Bears - Peter Skoronski, OL Northwestern
10. Eagles - Tyree Wilson, DE Texas Tech
11. Cardinals (trade with TEN) - Christian Gonzalez, DB Oregon
12. Texans - Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR tOSU
1. Panthers - Bryce Young, QB Alabama
2. Texans - Will Anderson, DE Alabama
3. Titans - (trade with ARI) - CJ Stroud, QB tOSU
4. Colts - Will Levis, QB Kentucky
5. Seahawks - Tyree Wilson, DE Texas Tech

8. Falcons - Peter Skoronski, OL Northwestern
9. Bears - Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR tOSU
10. Eagles - Calijah Kancey, DT Pitt
11. Cardinals (trade with TEN) - Devon Witherspoon, CB Illinois
12. Texans - Bijan Robinson, RB Texas
1. Panthers - Bryce Young, QB Alabama
2. Raiders (trade with HOU) - CJ Stroud, QB tOSU
3. Colts (trade with ARI)- Anthony Richardson - QB Florida
4. Cardinals (trade with IND) - Will Anderson, DE Alabama
5. Seahawks - Tyree Wilson, DE Texas Tech
6. Lions - Devon Witherspoon, CB Illinois
7. Texans (trade with LV) - Jalen Carter, DT Georgia
8. Falcons - Myles Murphy, DE Clemson

12. Texans - Bijan Robinson, RB Texas

Yeah, I’m a Texans fan and this is more my ideal state for us. No, we don’t “need” Bijan, but we do need weapons. If JSN is picked before Houston’s 12th pick, I’d rather they not force Johnston/Addison and go for someone like Flowers/Hyatt later.

I’m tempted to put Levi’s to the Titans at 11 if they don’t move up for one of the other 3, but figured OL as a need will win over the possibility that Levi’s turns into a viable Tannehill replacement.

Just predict that one of the top 12 teams makes a trade and to whom.

No other details needed.

Or predict no trades in the top
12. If you’re up against a team that predicted wrong, you win the tiebreaker.

Just predict that one of the top 12 teams makes a trade and to whom.

No other details needed.

Or predict no trades in the top
12. If you’re up against a team that predicted wrong, you win the tiebreaker.
;)
Ahh, was going to just have every pick be traded to some other team, since it couldn't hurt, and gives you the best chance at the tiebreaker, but this -- the bolded -- changes everything. No trades it is!

1 CJ Stroud Carolina
2 Bryce Young Houston
3 Will Levis Tennessee Trade
4 Will Anderson Indianapolis
5 Anthony Richardson Seattle
6 Christian Gonzalez Detroit
7 Tyree Wilson Oakland
8 Bijan Robinson Atlanta
9 Jalen Carter Chicago
10 Paris Johnson Philadelphia
11 Devon Witherspoon Arizona Trade
12 Broderick Jones Pittsburgh Trade

Trade guess if I only need to pick 1 is at #3 Arizona will trade back with Tennessee.

but this -- the bolded -- changes everything. No trades it is!
Except literally any deal in the top 12 and you lose the tiebreaker.

More of a coin flip than a game changer, really.
Ohh I see. So, Bob and Jim are on the second tiebreaker. Bob predicted no trades, Jim predicted a trade, but the only trade that actually occured is not what Jim predicted. In this case, the second tiebreaker is a push and it goes onto the third.

01 Carolina Panthers - Bryce Young
02 Houston Texans - Will Anderson
03 Tennessee Titans - C.J. Stroud *Trade*
04 Indianapolis Colts - Will Levis
05 Seattle Seahawks - Anthony Richardson
06 Detroit Lions - Christian Gonzalez
07 Las Vegas Raiders - Devon Witherspoon
08 Atlanta Falcons - Tyree Wilson
09 Chicago Bears - Paris Johnson Jr.
10 Philadelphia Eagles - Lukas Van Ness
11 Arizona Cardinals - Nolan Smith *Trade*
12 Houston Texans - Peter Skoronski

Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

Tomlin kept Antonio Brown under control - unbelievable looking back......he would just need to stare at Carter for him to show up early to practice. And the fact Chicago would be happy to get their Claypool pick back in the trade at 33...
