On the bolded, no they are not. Wingnut has provided the stats. You clearly don't watch him play. He also leads the league in Yards Per Attempt. Hard to do that if most of his yards are on dumpoffs.

Purdy LEADS the league in TD passes and Yards per Attempt and QB Rating. You are comparing to 16 games of stats from Jimmy G. You are definitely trolling.

He doesn't try to do too much and he hits guys short and in space and allows their talents to do much of the rest, Deebo has been in beast mode since coming back from injury.

But he's not an NFL-Top 5 QB, you do understand that, right? At least not yet. He has lots of time with all that talent and great coaching to be that guy but right now I view him more in the Russ Wilson area and that's not a bad thing, he went to 2 SB and won a Lombardi trophy which is all you really care about so be happy.

His #s are special. He has the 4th highest QB Rating of all time. He leads the league in Y/A AND is 2nd in Completion %. That is SPECIAL. Now if you want to argue it is due to his surrounding cast. That's fine. I get it. His surrounding cast OBVIOUSLY helps. But to say his NUMBERS arent special is clearly a lie.

I agree with most of this. I've never said Purdy is a top ___ QB, and I dont think he will get MVP. I don't even think he SHOULD be MVP, but he's in the conversation, so I put numbers out there because its fun and he IS having a historical statistical season. It's even MORE fun to see people blow gaskets because they cant accept that he's even good, let alone in the MVP convo.

I'd love to see him win it for 3 reasons.

1: It would break the internet

2: It would be one of the greatest underdog stories of all time if Mr Irrelevant won MVP (only Kurt Warner did it from farther out, but he also had an all star cast around him)

3: I'd cash out $500 on a $10 bet I made back in early May.

All that said, I think CMC will get OPOY and MVP will go to someone other than Purdy. But some of the weak straw grasping that gives Purdy no credit for being as good as he's been is just comical to me.

All I want is a SB. Individual awards are cool but they don't do much for me.

I personally think Josh Allen (despite the turnovers) is more valuable to the Bills than any other player in football.

Brock Purdy's been under pressure on 39% of his dropbacks. that's 3% more than the next mvp candidate. he doesn't get anywhere near the credit he should for 1) avoiding sacks 2) extending/creating out of structure. he saves 2-4 possessions a game that either result in a 1st or TD

Purdy consistently makes plays while under pressure, with free runners, putting the ball right on the money.

Id be hard pressed to call him top 5 when Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Herbert are probably the unquestioned top 4 QBs in the NFL. Is he 5th? Maybe but I think its debatable among LJax, Stroud, Dak, Cousins, Stafford, Tua.

I am not going to argue against Purdy, i just don't view him as an elite QB yet, but acknowledge that he is getting better and better
I was not and still not a big Russ Wilson supporter but I see their career paths being somewhat similar at the moment.
2 Super bowl trips and a Lombardi Trophy, again i'm sure you all won't mind what anyone wants to say as long as you hoist the trophy in a few weeks
I don't care what folks think of Tua and believe me i pull my hair out at times but much like Purdy, when things go well around him he usually doesn't derail the team.
Tua hits the guys that are open but when plays break down, he cannot make plays on his own, it's obvious when you watch him
But I don't argue with Phins fans much about him because he is pretty revered here and I did have a Tua throwback on at Hard Rock my son provided so i would fit in with the natives

To have a realistic shot at winning, Lamar probably needs to ball out like mad Monday night against SF and the Ravens have to win the game. Doing that in a game on Christmas many will see could go a long way to giving him a solid shot.

The issue for Purdy and McCaffrey could be many voters going for one and not the other to where neither gets enough votes to win

The introduction of ranked choice voting last year may eliminate this issue.

While I understand the MVP is almost exclusively given to Quarterbacks nowadays, it's a bit ridiculous that folks can say Purdy should be MVP when there's a reasonable argument to be had whether he's in the Top 5 NFL Quarterbacks right now.

It would be laughable if you tried to argue that CMC wasn't one of the Top 3-5 running backs in the NFL right now. And probably laughable to suggest he's not one of the Top 3-5 players OVERALL in the NFL right now, regardless of position.

That's why the entire premise of who wins the MVP award nowadays is stupid. It's not actually who is the most valuable player, it's "Consider QBs whose team is in the playoffs (preferably with at least 12 wins) and from the QBs who qualify, choose which has posted the best stats over the last 5 games or so of the regular season." I don't even think someone like Terrell Davis could win the MVP award nowadays.

While I understand the MVP is almost exclusively given to Quarterbacks nowadays, it's a bit ridiculous that folks can say Purdy should be MVP when there's a reasonable argument to be had whether he's in the Top 5 NFL Quarterbacks right now.

It would be laughable if you tried to argue that CMC wasn't one of the Top 3-5 running backs in the NFL right now. And probably laughable to suggest he's not one of the Top 3-5 players OVERALL in the NFL right now, regardless of position.

That's why the entire premise of who wins the MVP award nowadays is stupid. It's not actually who is the most valuable player, it's "Consider QBs whose team is in the playoffs (preferably with at least 12 wins) and from the QBs who qualify, choose which has posted the best stats over the last 5 games or so of the regular season." I don't even think someone like Terrell Davis could win the MVP award nowadays.

We here in Miami rarely if ever have an MVP candidate
-I couldn't name the MVP most years and like you said, they hand it out many times to QBs who lead teams to 12+ wins and a Playoff run.
That never happens down here...

That's why it seems like Tyreek Hill should at least be in the top 3 or 4 names for the MVP

We're looking at an additional 4-6Tds and 5-600extra yards, most likely.

Again, he's a top 3/4 qb for me this season... But he's not more valuable than Goff or even Stroud was for their teams, imo.

The problem here is that some people will argue that Purdy on many other teams is probably not a Top 3-5 QB (which I mostly agree with) and that other QBs inserted in place of Purdy would potentially be a Top 3-5 QB (which I also mostly agree with). But the fact of the matter is neither of those are the reality of the situation. Purdy is a good fit for what the Niners are running and has done exceptionally well. He's the 2023 version of 2016 Matt Ryan.

I wouldn't be outraged if Purdy wins MVP (like Ryan did). However, I think CMC is a big cog in the offense that makes everything else go. That doesn't take away from what Purdy has done, but I think CMC makes things a lot easier for the passing game to be successful. CMC on his own this year could end up close to what Freeman and Coleman produced combined for the Falcons in 2016 (2482 YFS and 24 total TD). If we say Purdy is the top QB for MVP, he's not putting up insane yardage or TD numbers compared to other years. He's been very efficient, but he's not in the 5000/40-50 range that QBs have been in the past 10 years. I must say, though, I can't remember seeing a team rank 32nd in passing attempts but 2nd in passing yards. That part is nuts. The 49ers are only 165 yards behind the Dolphins, so they stand a chance at overtaking them (especially if Hill is banged up).

What Goff and Stroud can boast, is a dramatic uptick in their team's performances. DET winning their division and playoffs, and Stroud (while now hurt, so takes a dip) has just been a phenom and has Houston looking an actual force.

SF were a 13 win team last season. SF has just been good/very good for some time now.

It seems like you are changing you're arguments here. All I took issue with was this bizarre comparison to Jimmy G from 2019. Its been said numerous times in this thread and in fantasy football circles in general that its a down year for offenses AND QBs. Purdy happens to have the best #s THIS year. Not sure what comparing him with 2019 #s makes any sense especially when the other guys you listed also have worse #s than Purdy. It makes no sense.
