truly believe that almost any QB placed in Purdy's spot does a similar job in terms of results... Because SF has basically shown it can and has.

Yet Jimmy wasn’t as good last year. Wasn’t Jimmy 7-4 before going out, then Brock won 6 straight? They lost to Philly because Brock was injured (may have lost anyway but it got ugly without him). This year he’s playing among the best.
If any QB other than Mr irrelevant were performing like he has, there wouldn’t be nearly as many detractors.

He’s MVP unless Dak, Josh, or Tua show otherwise in the next 3 weeks.
Although I’d give it to Tyreek with CMC #2.

A running back or wide receiver can have a great and even amazing season but won’t even be considered over 4 to 5 other quarterback players who have objectively worse seasons. The guys like CMC this year or Cooper Kupp in 2021 will never even sniff the award.

I agree with you. If I were voting I would probably vote CMC, Tyreek, and then Purdy. In that order. The MVP is basically just the best QB on one of the best teams.

Monster game for the MVP race...Christmas night between the two potential #1 seeds...all eyes will be on this game and it gives Purdy, Cmac and especially Lamar a chance to make a statement...if Lamar can go into San Fran and be the main reason for a Baltimore win, I think he goes right to the top of the MVP list.

Not touchy at all. It's fine if you don't think he's the most valuable player in the league. I don't either.* I do think he'll win the MVP award, which is something different.

It's just weird how many different reasons people look for to argue that Purdy isn't playing amazing football this year. Sure it helps that he's got good players on his team, just like it helped pretty much every other QB who ever put up elite numbers in a season. Would Purdy be as good on a different team? Probably not. Would other QBs be playing as well as Purdy is if they were on SF? Maybe. Joe Montana probably wouldn't have won four Super Bowls without Jerry Rice, too. It is what it is. If you took the best RB in the NFL off of the 49ers they'd be worse than they are now. So what? He is there. You play with the cards you're dealt.

The MVP award is effectively a "best QB" award and Brock Purdy is performing as a top QB in the league this year.

* Edit: on further reflection, he's quarterbacking the consensus best team in football and getting paid peanuts relative to his peers... you could probably make a stronger case for him actually being the most valuable player than you could've for most other players who have ever won it.

You've already conceded that the MVP award is effectively a QB award. We all agree that if it was truly a recognition of the most valuable player in the NFL, some non-QB would be usually be most deserving. But that's not how it works, and some QB is probably going to win the award. Given that Purdy is leading the league in a ton of metrics (some of which are not just the best this year but historically elite), it can only be trolling at this point to say his numbers aren't MVP-worthy.

It's starting to really feel like it's a year where a QB shouldn't get it (none really stands out at this point as having an MVP season), but not sure the voters will have the balls to give it to C-Mac or Tyreek.

Lamar is an odd one. Stats aren't that great but then you see how good this team is and you look at the weapons around him. It's a backup TE, back up RB, a bunch of questionable WRs, etc. He is carrying this team.

He also has 576 Rushing yards and FIFTEEN rushing TD's. I love CMC. I think he's very deserving. But as nuts as 20 TD's from a RB is--the QB going for 15 rushing TD's is also pretty bananas.

Josh Allen and Hurts are almost dead even in passing+rushing yards. Allen has 5 more total TDs (7 more passing, 2 less rushing). Allen has taken 14 less sacks and fumbled the ball 2 less times. Hurts has 2 less INTs. Allen has a higher completion percentage, higher QB rating and higher QBR.

What’s wild about Allen leading the league in INTs, is that he actually ranks amongst the lowest for QBs in what PFF deems “turnover worthy plays.” He’s just had awful luck with balls bouncing weird ways, defenders making incredible plays, and basically just never getting away with mistakes that other guys are getting away with.
