2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (8 Viewers)

The Eagles have won 5 straight games after being down double digit points with Jalen Hurts under center. This is tied for the longest streak since 1950 with Joe Montana and Steve Bartkowski.
something else i heard during the game, that was the first games Eagles won while down at halftime with Hurts at QB. There couldn't have been too many of these.
It’s a decieving stat at best. Most of the games they were down at half time were his first two seasons. The last few yrs they’ve either been tied or well ahead in games. This was the first game in a long time I remember us losing at halftime outside of last years Was game at home? Last home game Vs WAS Covid game they were tied eagles scored 10 in the 3rd the another 7 in the 4th
Or, you know.... "Wow that's a positive thing I will give Hurts credit for"

Same Same.

I'm not gonna hate on scoring a touchdown with less than 2 minutes left when the team doesn't have timeouts. You play to win the game.

Disagree with this. You were on the WAS 28 yard line, 2nd & 4. That was a 45 yard FG for Elliot (almost automatic for him at that range). WAS had 1 TO left, at the very minimum, you do one more designed run play to make WAS burn their last TO. If you get a first down, WAS won't get the ball back. If you don't get a first down, you have the option to throw that pass (still stupid) or run the ball again and run the clock down to around 1 minute left in the game. Mahomes could have given KC a 2 score lead last night and didn't. Why? Because you don't give the ball back to the other team, anything can happen if you do. If you run the clock out taking snaps and kneel downs, the other teams offense can't hurt you. You control things.
Agree. You take the TD everyday and twice on Sunday's. Only real issue was AJs taunting, though it was barely taunting. But yea, he knows better and the penalty made it much worse.
I didn't mind the penalty. Him and Forbes had been jawing all day, and the rook was trash-talking him. AJ just put the ball in his lap :ROFLMAO: That was an OG move.

He had that boy so mad, he was crying on the bench.

Almost cost his team a win . But hey….got that street cred, right?

Too expensive. Only worst penalty would have been if we needed a 2pt conversion and it pushed us back 15 yards

I said I didn’t mind it- I didn’t say it was the right call or a smart thing to do. I view responding to you the same way in here.

Remind me to never visit the eagles Reddit ever again. My goodness it’s awful.
Which makes it like the rest of Reddit.
Depends on the Reddit I work retail so retailhell is awesome we all complain about where we work customers or other employees and cheer people up on good things they did etc. anti work is as well. Anti work is more about worker rights and advice. The soccer Reddit for union and Milan is cool and Phillies Reddit might be the best. The bulls Reddit is pretty cool too. I’ve met a few other local Philly Chi fans and we’re gonna try and do a meet up for a 76ers//bulls game this year.

Another Reddit is the autism one which has a strong support community. It really depends on the group and what the mods if they are active enough allow people to get away with.

I mean half of Eagles Reddit still acts like Andy Reid slept with their mother or something and not giving Roseman credit for anything. If something was a success it’s a fluke or they try to credit someone else

Three penalty was dumb the dudes a bet. You did your talking by beating him all day. The taunting gave WAS a chance at a KO return ending in great field position. My cousin coached at The Prep and they benched a guy last game for it to teach a lesson despite being up big. It was more or less a teaching moment.

This team overall has been taking ****head penalties this year in terms of bad hits etc. it’s gonna cost them a game eventually

Or you can take it how it is. It wasn’t a negative response on him. It was a point besides his first 2 season the eagles have been up big in games so there’s not been many if any chances of that for him to comeback. Lighten up Francis

The game was stressful. I really hate hate hate complaining about officiating but man, there were some very interesting officiating decisions in this game.

A few penalties I'd never seen called before:

Offsides on the offensive line, when a defender's hand is literally UNDERNEATH the football, which would usually trigger offsides and offset the penalties. This was out of a tush push play so I'm sure the haters loved that one haha.

And the grounding called on an obvious miscommunication.

Every time we play the Commandskins, some weird s*** happens.

The playcalling was also weird. Running with Gainwell on 3rd and 11. Swift is obviously the superior back, but we keep giving Kenny G opps for some reason.

I'm not gonna hate on scoring a touchdown with less than 2 minutes left when the team doesn't have timeouts. You play to win the game.

We just let the super sneaky athletic Sam Howell pick up too many plays with his legs. We had 32 pressures yesterday, with just 5 sacks. Insanity.

Onto the Rams, will be attending this one. Should be fun. First time going to Sofi for me.
Good points, especially the Gainwell 3rd and 11.

Lets not forget, brand new OC and DC. First year on our team and first year them being in the position (IIRC). Let that sink in

The DC us brand new to the team or OC was our QB coach

Also I know no one wants to talk about this but it’s be a big thing if we were losing and @Snotbubbles mentioned this in the game thread as well. Jalen Hurts has been a very ineffective runner this year. I’m not sure if coaches are telling him to pass more but that’s not the issue we saw. He’s not aggressive and giving himself up too soon. Takeng 1-2 yds and falling down with a defender 2-3 yds away. It’s like he’s playing scared and just trying not to get hurt. If this was HS foot ally the coach would’ve been taking him off the field for safety reasons. Play not to get hurt and you can seriously injure yourself more in this game.

I’m shocked non of the reporters or anyone is really talking about this. I also think it’s effecting the offense. Even on designed runs he looks lost when running and defenders and DCs seem to realize he’s no threat to run right now effectively. It’s part of what makes Hurts successful though but it’s a worry.

I prefer Hurts is being much more judicious in his running and avoiding unnecessary hits. No one wants to see Mariota under center unless its mop up duty or a meaningless game in week 17.

Hurts has had 2 very good games throwing the ball while leading the team to a 4-0 start and 22-1 over his last 23 regular season starts. Get to 5-0 this week while either Dallas suffers their 2nd loss or SF gets their 1st (leaving the Eagles as the lone undefeated team). Just go 1-0 this week.

Yeah its pretty clear coaching has said "Dont' let Mariota play a single down buddy, take care of you body"

Also that mixed in with teams going all out to make sure Hurts is accounted for in the running game has made is rushing yards go down some.

But as long as we keep winning AND improving, I'm ok with it.

And to Djax' point, how much is it really affecting the offense? Right now we are 5th in the league in scoring and yards. Not too bad considering the offense looks "rusty" and really haven't had one complete game yet.

Here’s a nice video of some RZ stuff from The Colts. Steichen and company are using a lot of motion with AR5 to create mismatches. Look how they use the same formation in a QB draw and then later role Ali-Cox to convert a 3rd and goal TD. Then motion pittman on the 2 pt conv

Motion helps create stretching of the field and miss matches to exploit. But they do this all over the field indy.

My issue isn’t so much with Eagles play calling as much as the fact there’s been missed opportunities they aren’t executing on. They could benefit running more RPO again as well as motion more especially in the RZIt’s what made the Rams really successful with Stanford at first the motion.

I think you're pointing out the differences between the two OCs. And I agree with you, so far Brian Johnson hasn't been nearly as creative as Steichen.

Which with the running game out side of hurts has been successful. Hurts also has a bad succes rate passing out of the pocket this year which I just saw

The Linc - Among QBs, Jalen Hurts has the NFL’s worst success rate on plays outside of the pocket

After 4 weeks here is the difference in play-type for the Eagles.

2021
RPO: 10.3/g
PA: 7.4/g

2022
RPO: 9.7/g
PA: 8.9/g

2023
RPO: 5.5/g
PA: 4.5/g

The Eagles have moved away from RPOs and play action.
After 4 weeks here is where they stand in W/L and PPG

2021: 23.5 PPG/1-3 record
2022: 28.75 PPG/4-0 record
2023: 29.5 PPG/4-0 record

I’d be interested in seeing where the opposing defenses in those weeks ranked. Early season is hard to go by but still interested.

Also I know no one wants to talk about this but it’s be a big thing if we were losing and @Snotbubbles mentioned this in the game thread as well. Don't start this easy schedule stuff please lol. We have already beat 2 first place teams in those 4 wins with our 1st place schedule. :scared:

Overall I don't know how they compare, but the Eagles have played two top-10 defenses this year (NE & TB).

I'm sure the coaches have drilled into Hurts mind all off season that they need him in Nov, Dec and Jan so take it easy in Sep and Oct on the number of big hits he absorbs. Hopefully they unleash him though in that rough stretch from week 9 to week 15.

My biggest complaint with the offense right now is play calling.
May be parts of the play calling and design, but I see Hurts reads as pretty horrible. Like barely 50% reading the defense and who he should throw to.

Yea it's a big week. I think I would rather Dallas lose and take a stranglehold on the division

I've thought about this too. I think I'd rather have Dallas win because the Eagles are already a game up on them. A loss for SF helps towards the conference seeding in the long run.

Either outcome is a benefit to the Eagles though.

I'm not worried about the other games. Eagles will face SF and Dallas later this year. We need to take care of business against lesser teams while we can. November and December this year will be the hardest stretch I can remember in My lifetime as an Eagle fan.

The only thing bad with this scenario is you have the Eagles losing to all of the legit superbowl contenders. How confident would you be going into the playoffs?

Meh haha. Some of those expected L's would be W's and some of the expected W's could be L's. Who knows, Cardinals could shock us and we could end up beating up on the Chiefs. Very unpredictable but 12-5 would be solid. Such a brutal stretch of the season.

Slot CB Bradley Roby signed to practice squad. I don’t know how much he has left in the tank. But Roby manning the slot and Bradberry moving outside where he belongs could be big for the D.

I get that. Just saying that this would be the worst possible way to get to 12-5 if I’m an Eagles fan lol.

Yea 4 game losing streak and this town will lose their minds.

I actually might ask Tim McMabus who I know as a customer at my store about this see if he’s heard anything on that and if not why hasn’t anyone asked yet other then the fact it doesn’t look bad because they are winning right now

Bingo worry about what you can control don’t rely on others didn’t we say this to Giants fans a few yrs ago. Handle your own business and you aren’t stuck in a situation of needing another team to beat someone for ya

Sure, but we don't watch the games without emotion. We're going to watch the SF/Dal game and we're going to be rooting for one or the other. Its always good when Dal loses, but I also know the Eagles should be battling for the #1 seed with either or both of those teams. And right now, I wouldn't be upset if SF suffered a loss.

And it goes without saying, the Eagles need to keep winning.

It just seems like a weird complaint given how much we've expressed concern in the past Jalen's running and the hits he takes. Now he's (possibly) dialed it back and the new complaint is "he isn't running enough".

Bingo you pay for the overall stuff one can do. It’s why I think Ohtani in mlb FA is going to be a hard negotiation on contract sings with TJ surgery he can’t pitch. So is that first year if the deal Ohtani and his agent take less because he can’t be the two way guy for a bit more later?

You paying these guys for their success now but also their complete skill sets. If hurts isn’t gonna be an effective runner again Roseman and the Eagles overpaid

I hear this. Looking at the Niners schedule the rest of the way, it might be the easiest schedule in the league, while Dallas still has some tough obstacles on their schedule.

With that said, its always **** Dallas. The Dallas fans I interact with on a daily basis are just too annoying for me to not root for them to fail.

4-0, 22-1, #5 offense.

Man we pick nits around here. Weren't you concerned last year about Jalen's running and how he wouldn't last if he kept it up? Can't we just be happy the man's a winner and enjoy it? Jeez....

It’s more or less that it’s dialed WAY back. We aren’t expecting him to run with it constantly but even when he escapes pressure he looks scared of being hit and gives himself up way too easily. One of the biggest reasons the offenses has success is his ability to run. If he’s not doing it enough to keep the D honest or effective enough then defenses will focus in elsewhere defending the offense
