Also, I think we can all agree by now that Desai is a HUGE upgrade over Jonathan Gannon. I can only think of what Gannon would have done against the Dolphins last night with all the players we have out at key positions in the secondary. Desai is much more situationally aware and shows more creativity in his calls, IMO.
Statically speaking Desai’s defense are a lot worse than what Gannon did last year.
And he’s blitzing less lol
Yesterday he did a lot of what Gannon did in his time here. Zone it up and let the DL do work. Our DL, against an OL missing 3 starters and a not real mobile QB helps too
You are probably right about the stats. But for me, its really just a feel, I felt the good QB's torched us every time they played us. And in the Super Bowl we just could not stop the run.
When we won in 2017 w Jim Schwartz at the helm, he always preached stopping the run first, then attacking the QB after we make them 1 dimensional. Maybe I'm biased, I probably am, but I prefer that method. All those sacks last year and for whatever reason, couldn't get a single one in the biggest game, couldn't stop the run in the biggest game.
Gannon defense 2021: 9th against the run, 11th vs the Pass.
Gannon Defense 2022: 1st against the pass, 16th against the run.
Desai defense 2023: 23rd v the pass, 1st against the run
