2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (9 Viewers)

We have the best record in the league and still can get better. Thats the scarier part.
Correct. And its fair. The main things that need to happen, moving forward:

1. Clean up the turnovers. Didn't have any yesterday but recovering your 2 fumbles, odds are you lose 1 out of 2 in most situations. That crap needs to be fixed.
2. Situational play calling on offense.
3. Figure out the running game. Maybe getting Jurgens back will be the solution. I hope so.
4. Get healthy. Jalen hopefully will get better in the next 14 days. Hoping Bradley Roby can too and plug up that glaring Slot CB hole we have right now.
5. Get Byard on the same page in communication with our guys. Due to the endless DB combos and him being here new, there are issues here that need to be corrected
6. Gotta find a way to replace Goedert in a way. Whether we go big slot and play Julio more and/or get Swift in the slot running option routes. Teams will now put more emphasis on stopping AJ Brown and Devonta as the only weapons.

The Eagles have the #2 scoring offense in the NFL and are 3rd in total yards.
In addition, our offense has to be the most talented in the league, right? Do we even have a flaw on offense prior to yesterday? This is also probably our most talented offense ever top to bottom.

We aren’t we first in everything? Why aren’t we the glaring elite offense in the league? There’s not a doubt in my mind if we have the same offensive coaches as last year we’re hanging 40 points at will this year.

Kind of funny how people argued Brandon Graham was a terrible pick and Earl Thomas should’ve been the guy. For a few yrs ET looked like a top safety but started to decline fast after all the talent around him in that secondary left. Meanwhile BG took a few yrs to figure it out. BG made one of the biggest plays in franchise history and still playing. ET is now nowhere with a divorce and his ex filing restraining orders against him. Yes hindsight is 20/20 but in the long run I think the Eagles made out great and in the long run BG will be in our community for yrs to come. He and Jason Kelce also live a few doors down from one another as well.

For Eagles fans, how do you rank the top 5 NFL QBs?

For NFL, not fantasy.
Who do I want? or who do I think is best? Different answers. I wouldn’t trade Hurts for anybody, so, as a fan- he’s my #1.

Top 5 in the NFL:
Maholmes
Burrow
Hurts
Allen
Lamar

I think the question is who would you want. Presumably because you think they're the best.

Better way would be if you were starting a team as a GM for this 1 year and all had same salary, how would you rank them?

Some people grow up DJAX.

If cell phone cameras were around (like they are now) when I was in my 20s I would likely still be serving time.

Now you would have to put a gun to my head for me to do wrong.

I’m not suggesting Parsons is a good or bad guy, but you care way too much.

I say that will love, hope you receive it as so.
He’s not really great at the forgiveness thing. If you did it, you’re done. Sadly there’s many like that these days. Kids make bad decisions but it’s not a lifetime sentence.

I haven’t liked the defense in yrs. Way too soft. Can’t stand the Fangio scheme. Not expecting blitz every play but they need to be way more aggressive. Was watching the KC/Mia game and at the end Spags was bringing tons of heat to Tua. I understand wanting to keep things in front of you but that type of play style has been hurting us

This is the stuff we have to get away from. It’s almost like we don’t understand our team and its strength. Those teams HAVE to bring heat because the front 4 does not get it done. We have the best DL in the game. You play to your strength. When you have an asset like that, there’s no sense in sending extra guys a bunch and leaving your weakness on an island. When you finally blitz you catch the opponent off guard. Both Desai and Gannon played to the strength of the defense. Only difference is Desai is not the savior everyone made him to be. He’s just a worse Gannon so far or he’s Gannon from 2 years back.

This is why I didn’t like the hire. People made this guy out to be a savior when he’s the sane guy as the last. They were so obsessed with getting rid of the last guy they did t realize the guy we hired is just as bad

My point was that most likely ANY new hire would play a similar scheme giving where the talent is on the team.

Difficult question. Mahomes is the only easy answer at #1, probably Burrow at #2.
After that I'd put Tua, Herbert, Hurts, LJax, Allen in a not so very far behind tier. Then Goff, Purdy and Dak threatening to join (though to be fair, Goff and Dak likely never will at this stage.) Too soon to throw Stroud into the conversation, but he's been impressive.

Desai has shown to be much better than Gannon (he took the bus to work and has a fire in his belly). He makes good adjustments at half and has done a low-key tremendous job working with the patchwork secondary.
This is a typical Philly post 😂. Hes not better than Gannon was but he “has a fire and takes the bus so I like the grit more than the results”….why do we have this type?

Desai has done nothing tremendous at all. If Gannon’s D is carved up by Howell the radio would be filled with hours of “fire him”…but because a guy looks different he gets a pass. His best quality yesterday was luck, plain and simple. It’s the strangest Philly obsession I’ve ever seen. It applies to all sports too lol. It’s so crazy.
The “took the bus” thing is a direct quote from Gannon being super cringey on Hard Knocks.

Desai is waaaaay better than Gannon. Not saying he is the savior, but he is an upgrade

We hate Gannon so much we want Desai to be better. He just simply hasn’t been better.

We’ll know a ton more about him and Brian Johnson over the next month.
That's very possible. I hate Gannon, and always will.

Desai, at least, makes adjustments in game. Gannon NEVER did. And Gannon had a better D, and a healthier D. Desai gets somewhat more of a pass because of all the injuries. And the fact that he's not Gannon.

I honestly hate the injuries excuse. A good coach no matter the personal puts his guys in the best position to succeed. That’s not putting Eli Ricks matches up with top Recievers.

“The way that they played football all season long, I just don’t like it, and it’s hard to say that you don’t like something about a team when they’re 8-1.”— @sethjoyner
Seth has been hating on the Eagles for a while now. Unless we are blitzing all day long, he doesn't like the defense.

DIdn't the Eagles and their scheme hold the Dolphins to less points than the Chiefs did?
The Eagles have a better DL then KC and Mia missed a few oppurtunitues. Hill dropped an easy 15-20 yds TD and another play as well so I don’t put much in “the defense held them” as much as I do Fins had chances and didn’t execute. People were saying Bradberry did well in that game but he was the guy who blew the coverage on the Hill dropped TD.
LOL Miami sure as hell missed a few opportunities vs KC too. Maybe they are just not a great team when they play a good opponent, as they are undefeated against turds and 0-3 against teams with winning records. Hill dropped passes yesterday and I have no idea what that duck was that Tua threw before fumbling the game away on 4th down.
Mia beat up on a weak schedule that’s one of the issues. They’ve also missed opportunities the last few games too.

fixed Oversight

Mahommes, Burrow
Hurts, Allen

then Lamar, Herbert

then everyone else. Lawrence is doing more with less than all else after the above so he's probably one good season away from being mentioned, Goff unfortunately has the history that says he might not be what we're seeing now, and I still believe Purdy, Tua are product of their team, not the other way around. Dak looks to have peaked and if so it's really really good but not great.

I don’t think Hurts is the best. Maholmes can do things physically that Hurts can’t do. And he has been better, longer.

Burrow is the best pure pocket passer in the league. And his understanding of the game and processing speed is elite. He also is a cool-headed assasin: game on the line, chances are he will score. We’ll see how his career ends up, but he looks like he could be ‘the next Brady’ if we’re annointing anyone.

Hurts/Allen very similar in a lot of ways. Allen has a howitzer for an arm, and I think relies on his arm strength too much. He plays hero ball and forces things, too much. He is ohysically the most gifted of all if them. And I think that has hindered his development.

Lamar is a freak, can do it all. But he disappears in some games and hasn’t shown he can stay healthy. Another guy that you feel good about your chances if he has the ball and has to score.

Hurts has shown me he is accurate and has enough arm to make all the throws. Thise were huge question marks on him coming into the league. What I really love about him is his mental toughness. He eats, sleeps, breathes football. He can shake off bad plays and bounce right back and put together a game-killing drive. He is an outstanding leader, because he leads by example and takes accountability. The temperament of the Eagles is shaped by Hurts. He is the reason numerous vets are wtill okaying this year. He is the reason a lot of FAs sign in Philly.

My favorite thing about Hurts is that he is clutch. Game on the line, I’m confident he is going to come up with the play and get the win. Not just hopeful, confident. After a lot of heartbreak with McNabb, that is such a refreshing change.

He’s not really great at the forgiveness thing. If you did it, you’re done. Sadly there’s many like that these days. Kids make bad decisions but it’s not a lifetime sentence

So you aren’t about holding people accountable? This is what I hate about people saying it’s woke culture blaming things. No people are holding others accountable for bad things from stuff they say to what they do. Society has changed as a whole. What may have been appropriate 30 yrs ago usnt today. Unfortunately some hate being called out for their nonsense.

Kids today have no sense of discipline. They run wild in my township and it’s always “not my little Johnny or Sara” but yet it was. People have zero respect for others and their opinions either.

Then you have athletes who people think deserve a slap on the wrist because of “how talented they are”. I don’t care if you are the next Micheal Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Pelé, Ruth or Montana, act the fool suffer the consequences. Show some accountability and maturity.

It’s about not enabling the poor behavior. Someone like Janis Winston who raped FSU students shouldn’t be playing in the NFL now but unfortunately is. Guys like Chip and Carrol should’ve been serving suspensions for their college mishaps before joining the NFL but didn’t.

Is their second chances sure. But someone like Vick should’ve been banned from football for his federal crime. His second chance could be working a 9-5 job while doing community and education on the dangers of dog fighting. Not making millions in the NFL again. These leagues are a privilege to play in do to your immense talent not a god given eight like so many think.

There’s a reason Eric Bienemy isn’t a HC in the nfl and it goes back 20 so yrs ago with what happened at Colorado as well as other legal issues. The system isn’t dragging him down he’s not getting chance because no one seems to trust him as a HC with all the legal issues. He doesn’t interview well and when legal issues are brought up he doesn’t seem very fourth coming, apologetic etc.

The nfl was doing a great Job with Watson until the browns screwed it all up.

To me it’s more about accountability and teaching right from wrong not “he’s a great player so we’ll just let this pass.”

For Eagles fans, how do you rank the top 5 NFL QBs?

For NFL, not fantasy.
It's all about winning and leadership, assuming they have the physical skills since they are NFL QBs. So for me its

Mahomes - just a freak and improvisor. His production and MVPs/Super Bowl wins speak for themself

Burrow - Elite mental gamer. Made it to the SB his first full season and until last year in the playoffs was undefeated vs Mahomes

Hurts - The best leader of men in the game. He's sort of a bit of a different guy. Shows hardly any emotion, doesn't call for flags after every single play like Mahomes. I think at this point he has surpassed the knocks on his physical and mental ability to throw accurate and process. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone that quote unquote "can't stand him" All he does is win. One of the game's current ultimate clutch performers IMO.

Josh Allen - the rich man's Wentz or the mobile Favre if you will. Plays very similarly to Wentz, has crazy physical skills, almost arrogant with the way he wields them. Makes too many boneheaded silly INTs,believes he can make every throw no matter what, can hurdle every defender, etc. Eventually I believe he will do that too often or play too tough and he meets a guy that hurts him badly.

Lamar Jackson - just fun to watch. Unconventional throws, elite athleticism. Great leader teams love him. Does disappear in big moments, and the playoff success is lacking.

Lets hear your top 5 Joe!

Desai has shown to be much better than Gannon (he took the bus to work and has a fire in his belly). He makes good adjustments at half and has done a low-key tremendous job working with the patchwork secondary.

Yep the tough guy thing and grit is weird. I get you play hard people will like you but when you are replacing a guy you are doing no better then, that’s still an issue.

1. Pat Mahomes - The best QB in football and on his way to being in the discussion of "best QB not named Tom Brady".
2. Joe Burrow - Would be the best if Mahomes wasn't around. Has a swagger about him that would make him the GOAT athlete in Philadelphia in a very short time.
3. Jalen Hurts - Has a quiet, workman like swagger....has made it deep in the playoffs, is young and is still getting better.

Herbert/Lamar/Josh Allen - Herbert hasn't won anything....Lamar has had a couple of years of less than stellar play......I may be a little unfair to Josh, but what exactly has Josh won?

6. Gotta find a way to replace Goedert in a way. Whether we go big slot and play Julio more and/or get Swift in the slot running option routes. Teams will now put more emphasis on stopping AJ Brown and Devonta as the only weapons.
Someone asked Robey on Twitter if he’s back after the bye and it was a pretty clear yes

So you aren’t about holding people accountable?
I absolutely am. The difference between you and I is that it’s not a lifetime sentence unless it’s something horrible.

Parsons, Mixon, Vick etc etc can be held accountable but not for 10-20-30+ years. I’m not sure how old you are, but the me 20 years ago is nowhere near the same person we are today.

I may be a little unfair to Josh, but what exactly has Josh won?
I tried to stay away from team accomplishments when I did mine. I just looked at overall QB talent and what they’d bring to the table on any team.

If @Joe Bryant expanded it to 6 it looks like 99% would all have the same names but maybe in a different order anyway

Depends on the offebse you want to run and another question is what kind of defense do I have plus offensive weapons. RPO play action you go more Hurts/Allen, air it out spread hybride Herbert, Burrow or Mahomes.

It’s like when playing madden what type of QB and Offense do you want to run? If I had Brady manning I ain’t running an RPO offebse unless the run is to a back.

Lamar is athletic but it doesn’t translate to success late in the season. He’s yet to really impress in the post season and he’s gone MiA even benched in playoffs. Bal is just killing teams right now and have t been in many close games. Lamar is another Vick at best. Can put up great numbers at times but if he doesn’t have his legs he’s useless. Not always healthy nor consistent

Unfortunately what people don’t understand is your actions even then have consequences. Right or wrong that’s how the world looks at things now. Yeah it sucks but maybe you should’ve listened to that person a bit more then thinking you knew the world.

It depends on how messed up your mistake is too. I won’t want death penalty just because you got caught under age drinking or pot. Now a guy like Winston what he did, you know right from wrong there. No going back on that decision. That’s something that should be held against you for yrs and that’s what’s happening for Eric Bienemy right now. Don’t feel sorry for the guy at all.

What makes you think people don’t understand that their actions have consequences? Why do you think the world look at it like that? Do you think the majority of people who’ve made mistakes like that would do them again if given the chance?

What mistake do you mean about Winston? How many years until his sentence is over to you?

Winston raped two fsu students while during the national title run and was also arrested for stealing. Crab legs at a Publix, but University covered it up. The stealing isn’t the issue though as the bigger case is the sexual assault. The university as well as former FSU alumni including CFF personalities like Danny kennel slut shamed the girls. A person I know who ended up covering the Carolina panthers for a bit was at a party with fsu boosters. The husband of the defense attorney for FSU and Winston was there with his wife and all of them were bragging about how they covered it up including FSU campus police. I had several other people confirm this. ESPN fsu alumni routinely complained about the girls being paid and should give the money back to the university. It was dispicable actions all around given what CFB just went through with PSU and Sandusky not long before.

Also go watch The Hunting Ground it’s a documentary of how universities cover up sexual assault by athletes on campus and goes into the case. The article has a link ton that and another report from my times I believe the article says how FSU covered this up.

Winston then sexually assualted an Uber driver in 2016 a case that was settled 2 yrs later.

So this is clearly a guy who doesn’t get it

Per Google.

The 1970 Cowboys and 2017 New England Patriots are the only other teams to lose the Super Bowl and bounce back to win the title the next season. Five additional teams reached the Super Bowl in consecutive seasons but lost both times.

It's a long shot for us to make and or win the Super Bowl this year. The odds are definitely stacked against us. As of right now if we were to make it to the Super Bowl the one team I hope doesn't make it is the Ravens.

Is that just a coincidence or am I reading too much into a stat like that compounded what I saw in those moments last night
Whats even crazier is they got zero points with all those yards. 3 4th quarter drives, got inside the 30 yard line 3x. Zero points. What would you say was the reason for that? Just unlucky?

I think one of the booth guys said it towards the end of the game, one foot and one knee away from a win [for the boys]. as an eagles fan I couldn't have written a better script for the game, but for the other side can't get more frustrating than that. what are the odds. (i'm sure nextgen has a stat for this)

Cool great discussion

Rams correcting their 2016 choice, somehow manage to get the first and second pick of the year. I had actually hoped they would draft Wentz and Goff to Eagles at the time, oh how things would have been so different including the SB in '17.

Carson signing with the Rams

Really happy for the guy I hope he succeeds. I believe in karma so I’m not going to be one of those jaded fans who wishes poorly for him and then see us suck the rest of the year. Hopefully he’s learned from the past.

Wentz gets a terrible rep and some of it is deserved. but what I hate most is people who won’t even admit he’s one of the big reasons we won the SB that year. It reminds me of the fans who still **** on McNabb

Wentz was the leading MVP candidate before going down and took brady 3 weeks to tie and surpass his TD throws that’s season. People forget how much Foles struggled those last few weeks. I think many forget how down everyone was and many had the negadelphia we got the bye but would lose anyway.

I remember a few people including Dino telling me “without that bye week we’d been ****ed!!! Thank god Wentz played as good as he did and the rest of the guys up till he was hurt.” DeFillipo and Reich asked Doug if they could take the bye week to go through a new game plan to work with Foles. They went back to Nick’s best season under Chip. That’s when the RPOs took off in Philly. After talking and going over film with Nick the 3 went to Doug Pederson and said this is the game plan we’re all comfortable with. Doug approved and the rest is history. Outside the playoff run most don’t realize how mediocre Foles was right before that and after. All they remember is how he played in the playoffs.

It sucks how everything went after that but no one person gets blamed over the other. Everyone from Lurie on down had their part on how things turned out after that. It’s just easy for many to blame one person instead of having a real debate what happened. Just regurgitating what the idiots who don’t know **** throw up on a wall hoping it sticks

So crazy that in a sport so competitive that it took until 11/7/23 for him to sign. There has to be so many horror stories we haven’t heard yet.

I wish Puka well.
Probably the best wR talents he’s had his whole career actually Puka and Kupp. Ertz was probably the best talent he had overall until now and yes Goedert was here but he was still maturing at that time. Jefferey was good but was known to sulk and disappear and after Philly dude did nothing. He served his purpose though for that one Year. Torrey Smith was good for what he had to do.
