2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (8 Viewers)

Maybe Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis or Cox. Other than that, there’s no impact players on defense. We’re not even missing the slay absence.
The disappearance and disappointment of the DL isn’t really talked about enough. These guys simply can’t win anymore. Carter looks done and played like 20% of the snaps yesterday. I can’t remember the last time Sweat did anything either. These guys were machines a year ago and look so bad now.

I can't root for Dallas...sorry, not happening. For some reason I thought we would be the 2 seed if we won out regardless of what others do. But if its the 3, so be it. We can root against Detroit in week 18

we now have to choke down vomit and root for DAL to beat DET so we can maybe get the 2 seed and a second round home playoff game,

Lions @ Cowboys. Need the Lions to lose so that the Eagles have a shot at the 2 seed, should SF win out. A Cowboys win would help the Lions have a worse strength of victory tie-breakers.
Brought this up last week and I'm still not sure what would be better for us. I feel like we REALLY need a 'bye' week to rest up, reset, figure some stuff out, refocus, etc.

If we win this week and Detroit beats Dallas, couldn't we rest our starters week 17 as the division would be clinched? Or would we still play hard to try to get the 2 seed over the 3 seed?

And if Dallas wins, that means an upset to the Giants, on the road, would drop us to the 5 seed. That is risky business. I'm torn on what is better for us here.
The goal really is to get the real bye week. I think we just have too much s*** to straighten out and get "right" or as "right as can be" against 2 lesser opponents in the Cardinals and Giants. I don't even know who the starting QB would be for the Giants week 18 since they just benched Devito, although Taylor made a few plays he still completed less than half his passes.

The key thing is the Rams playing the Niners week 18 when they will be playing to get in. Looking at the schedule at least on ESPN, it looks like every game time is TBD, so I'm guessing the NFL is going to flex the times of all the games on the last Sunday of the season.
Ya, so many moving parts right now. 1 seed would be amazing for sure, but don't really want to play Dallas round 2, would rather play Detroit. I just feel like trotting out against two bad teams isn't really going to fix things. Would love a week to rest guys whether it's the 1 seed bye, or W18 vs the Giants.
Eh my thing is nothing is for certain. Its the NFL, and you want to play as little playoff games to get to the big dance as you can.

Now this isn't wishing injuries but its just the reality of the sport.

For instance, SF is a house of cards, as we see, every single time Trent Williams is out, the whole team falls apart. They have a super talented team, but man this guy seems to be the jenga piece and they literally used up all of their offensive linemen off the bench last night. Now b/c they lost, they really have to trot out their entire team the last 2 games of the season instead of THEM getting to rest week 18 + rest again for the 1st week of the playoffs. Huge huge implications from that beatdown the Ravens handed them last night.

Injuries could happen to anyone and make life harder for their team, including ours. So you really want to play as little games as possible, where in a scenario round 1 without a bye "Cool! We play a crappy team, but also b/c we had to play, X player is out for the rest of the playoffs"

Dallas and Philly have even less margin for error when it comes to injuries. Jenga pieces are Dak/Hurts, CD/AJ Brown/Smitty and Micah Parsons on defense. Its hard to say any of our defensive players are true Jenga pieces b/c the whole defense is...kinda not good. But I think you get what I'm saying.

Reddick is still good
What happened to sweat? And Graham got old fast
Graham is 35 lol. We drafted him in 2010. Sweat is still pretty good, but hasn't got a sack in 6 games. In a word, we don't have anyone to come in and sub for him or Reddick. Nolan Smith is taking longer to ramp up and become a player so we are relying on Sweat/Reddick/BG way too much with literally no one else stepping up to become a bit of a spell for these guys.

Yeah, so basically from what I understand Carter was sorta benched for making mental errors, but yeah man, my thing is against some of THE worst lines and we are talking about in NFL history, both the Commanders and Giants, we have gotten little to no pressure at all. Its very frustrating to watch QBs sitting back all day long.

His counts were low prior to the “benching”. They also seemed to get away from the 5 man fronts (which is a good thing) but they’re just not winning. Reddick, Sweat, Graham, Davis, Cox and Carter are more than enough to get to the QB. They seemed to also use Smith as an off ball LBer yesterday too.

Sacks on the year:

Haason Reddick (11)

Josh Sweat (6.5)

Fletcher Cox (5)

Jalen Carter (5)

Brandon Graham (3)

Jordan Davis (2.5)

2022

Reddick (16)

Graham (11)

Hargrave (11)

Sweat (11)

Cox (7)

Williams (4)

Nearly every issue we have point to coaching too. Not sure which coaches but definitely coaching. The defense lost 4-5 coaches I think and I’m not sure how many on offense.

To a degree I believe you and agree with you. But we just can't excuse the players for not executing this year. Other than AJ Brown, I can't think if anyone that's actually "playing better this year" compared to last year. I can't believe b/c we lost coordinators that means that everyone regresses across the board. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Key players playing well below last year:

Jalen
Bradberry (age I guess)
Graham (age maybe)
Lane
Kelce
Sweat
Reddick (although still very good)
Slay

Guys playing about the same:

Goedert
Devonta
Mailata
Cox

The bolded is coaching and Goedert and Smith are graded worse this year.

You just don’t see groups of players all of a sudden not able to execute because of talent. The talent isn’t being coached to overcome what they did a year ago. I think the DL and Hurts are the glaring examples. At this stage you can even look at the players we lost and how well they’re doing elsewhere compared to here a year ago.

Hindsight is 20/20 but we really couldn’t afford to not replace the coordinators with more veteran types given our talent and expectations.

The OLine has had some bad games (like yesterday), but I’d still say they’re the amongst the best group in the NFL.

DLine has definitely regressed, and I’m talking about compared to earlier in the season. They have gotten worse the last 4-5 weeks.

We probably have the worst linebacker core in the league LOL. Seriously watching them in painful.

Last year the secondary was a liability and this year they’re more of a liability. Probably amongst the worst in the league.

Coaching is definitely a contributing factor.

This thread went from Hurts winning the MVP, winning out, 1 seed etc to flaming out in about 3 weeks

Damn shame imo
Hurts was the betting favourite at the time... it wasn't that far fetched to think he could win it. Not one person said he WAS going to win it.

Also not one person said we would win out back before the DAL/SEA upcoming games.

We are a game out of the 1 seed. It's possible.

Nice attempt though. Well, not really.

Damn you love this thread hey?

During my time away I thought about how I feel about this team and had a kind of catharsis.

I believe they will win out. I think Dallas will beat Detroit at home. I don’t think they’ll be the 1 seed but I’m fairly certain they’ll end up being the 2. This means they will host the 7 seed week 1 (most likely Seattle) and then host either the lions (if they beat the Rams) or the winner of the Dallas-Bucs game (if the Rams beat Detroit).

I think they beat Seattle at home and I think they beat the Rams at home. None of these teams have much playoff experience, including the most likely eventual matchup of SF. We do.

Maddox is coming back this week which should be huge for us. By the time playoffs come Slay will be back as well and we’ll have a few weeks under their belts of adjusting to Patricia calling plays.

The offense, while getting maligned nationally and even internally (Smith, AJ, Kelce, etc) has been pretty good. We’ve not had problems moving the ball we just have been turning it over way more than last year. Combine that with the fact that this defense has not been generating turnovers like last year and we’re literally getting something like 2-4 less scoring opportunities per game. Clean up the ball control issues and we’ll be humming going into the playoffs. This is clearly no small task but it’s better than simply having a bad offense-which I don’t believe is the case.

The internal, behind the scenes issues can have a divisive effect but it can also be galvanizing. It depends on how Sirianni treats it-I have faith this team will start to really put it together in the next few weeks and be rolling come playoffs.

I too was on a time out. What do you want to talk about?
What were you in for? 😂
I made a disparaging comment about a point of view of a Gints’ fan after last weeks game. I didn’t think it was super egregious but after being here for damn near two decades I’m still learning what flies and what doesn’t. Oh well.

Don't ever say anything even slightly critical or negative or be banned. That's what flies

At home would be awesome, but clinching the division tomorrow and resting week 18 would also be awesome. I can't decide. Luckily I can't watch the game.
Starters still won’t rest if that happens. We’ll still have chance at 1st or 2nd seed if SF and/or DET lose in week 18 and games will likely be played at the same time as ours.

So if we beat Arizona and NYG, it (likely) ends:

1 SF
2 Phi
3 Det
4 TB
5 Dal
6 LAR
7 Sea/Min/GB

I'd like that
Right, so we’d host the 7 seed in round one (feel good about playing any of those teams at home) and assuming everything shakes out as expected (Lions don’t get cheated and beat the Rams and Dallas beats TB), we’d host Detroit with Dallas traveling to SF in the divisional round.

After that is anyone’s guess. I think we *could* beat Detroit at home but I’d bet we’d be only slight favorites in that game, maybe -1.5? SF would probably be -5.5 against Dallas and I have a tough time seeing Dallas pulling out a road win in SF.

I think a lot will depend how we look over the next few weeks, but I could see us and Detroit being a Wash on a neutral field, so whoever gets home field being -3.

The outcome of this game is irrelevant.

It’s late December. They are who they are. If we’re being objective, they’re simply not a very good football team….

The defense isn't good. It needs a major overhaul.
We need a new scheme. This fangio keep everything in front of you defense doesn't work. It just leads to 15 play 10 mins drives that kill your team.

A bunch of guys on this defense got old real quick. Time to cut bait with the older higher priced guys and just go with youth and build. Maybe take a step back for a year to get younger, quicker and hungrier.

The youthful players look like **** too

You can’t run any defense when your DL is handled in every aspect of the game. Literally dominated in every aspect.
