2023 Philadelphia Eagles - If it makes us frown, flush it down. On to Dallas. (16 Viewers)

Unless Howie is trading for a guy, I don't see any pending FAs on Hargraves level skill wise and young enough to take the discount.
A’Shawn Robinson, from the Rams, probably comes closest. 27, similar size to Hargrave (but bit bigger/better run stuffer), shown flashes for stretches and is coming off a knee injury that might force him to take a discounted 3-year deal.

Going off of this, a nice replacement for Bradberry could be the CB out of Pittsburgh, Cameron Sutton. Only allowed 44.4 % completion in coverage this year. Usually like my corners a bit bigger though as he is 5'11/190ish.

Avonte Maddox had surgery, believed to be plantar plate repair (fixed really bad turf toe).

Can take up to 4 months to be completely pain free and ready to resume full activity. No weight bearing for the first 6-8 weeks.

Assuming no setbacks in rehab, could be ready for camp.

It was great talking with many of you this season. Despite our differences, I think we got along pretty well and talked about some good football.

Sadly, there’s one of you who tried to get me banned by using the report feature. It worked for a week. I was literally banned (not suspended,) from this place all because one of you didn’t like words that I said and you turned state’s evidence.

Luckily somebody must have spoken to the big guy and my sentence was reversed today.

With that said, I don’t like snitches but I like this place. I honestly wish all but two of you nothing but the best. Good luck next year. You had/have a helluva team.

Kind of lame and a bummer. I'm all for spirited debate! Not my style at all fyi, just to be clear I have never reported anyone, although I have been banned a few times b/c of the politics forum, and the sentence IMO didn't fit the crime, but whatevers. Some people get way too emotional on here. Glad to have you back!

Robert Woods in the slot. Make it happen Howie! 2nd year removed from a major injury, good route runner and hands.

Are you sure it was one of the Igglz?
I would widen the scope, there's plenty of people that don't like you

I'm just kidding SB22, I get my fair share of hate around here but I usually brush it off.

Hate happens just gotta roll with it!

Not a fan of him lately at all, but would never report. Sucks cause he was really good for a while then seemed to go off the deep end. Hope his better side comes back this year.

Per Jeremy Fowler, Eagles are OUT on Jim Leonhard as DC.
Really hope we bring in a vet DC to have some sort of experience. Looks like our candidates now are:

Jesse Minter- Michigan DC
Chris Shula- Rams DB Coach
Vance Joseph- Cards DC
Sean Desai- Seahawks ***. HC
Glenn Schumann- Georgia co-DC

Gimme Joseph.

#Eagles HOF S Brian Dawkins says he would’ve hated playing in Jonathan Gannon’s defense Dawkins says Gannon relied too much on his pass rusher winning 1-on-1 and didn’t have a “Plan B” when that wasn’t working in the Super Bowl. “He did not do a good job adjusting”

Brian Dawkins would like the Eagles to hire Vance Joseph as their next DC: "I know that he's aggressive, I know that he's elaborate, I know he blitzes, I know he mixes things up in different situations."

Desai - Vic Fancio disciple so the foundation of the Defense should be the same
Joseph - very blitz heavy and a bit different than what we ran

Ya I'd be good with either of those 2.

I think with Ganon, he's a good coach. He analyzed the current structure of the NFL and knows what is needed on a week to week basis to keep your team in the game enough for the offense to get the win. His defense will never a win a game but for the most part they won't lose it for you. That's great for the regular season. It's when you play the upper tier teams in high pressure situations (Super Bowl) that he's scheme falls apart. Like Dark said, he never needed to adjust so he had nothing in the tank when he had to. I think the Washington game kind of showed that too. When Washington was content taking the short grind it out approach, he didn't really have a way to stop it because that's what his defense was supposed to do. Make the other team score slowly. Fast forward to KC and we see that good teams that execute we'll, can beat his scheme faster.

Ultimately his style was boring. It's like the shift in baseball. Yea it works statistical more than it doesn't but it's boring as all hell. I'd be happy with a more exciting defense.

Apparently Lurie disagrees and offered him a bunch of $$ to stay

100% agree. With a good offense, this style helped the Eagles win a lot of regular season games, but I was VERY disappointed in the lack of adjustments in the Super Bowl. They were in a spot where they needed either a STOP or for KC to score relatively quickly, and instead gave up a game killing 5+ minute drive. They hadn't stopped KC the entire half, why keep doing what you were doing? Good riddance I say

Sadly I've been on the receiving end of this. I spoke up in a thread around the start of the pandemic one poster who I hardly see and disappointed it was someone who has a similar rooting interest as me, went after pretty hard after me. A few posters spoke up on my behalf but I got a month ban and I don't think the dude who wrote a terrible post was ever banned. Unfortunately there's numerious children on this board. I'd hate to see how they act in real life when people disagree or don't get their way. I just hope those folks aren't producing offspring because I think their family would be appalled at some of their behavior.

I don't mind friendly debate either. But the minute someone makes it personal they lost the argument and just best to ignore them at this point.

I've had this happen to me and seen posters not go punished for far worse ut thats neither here nor there. Unfortunately theres snitches out there just looking for any reason for you to slip up and report. I brought this up to the Mods here to consider who's doing the reporting on who if they can see who's reporting. Consider the source more say before taking action and look at the whole picture. I haven't gotten much feedback on it though.

Usually they show the post that you were banned for unless the new format changed that. It'd be hard for someone and you'd literally have to have no life if you are just looking to report people.

Joseph got hammered by the Denver faithful and media. He's horrible. 31st ranked defense doesn't hold anyone accountable either.

More exciting defenses anymore don't mean great results anymore. Teams who blitz more now get absolutely hammered in this league. If People want the Buddy Ryan days back its not the way the league runs now. It's pick your opportunities and play it safe.

Agree. Gannon couldn't adjust though. Who DIDN'T KNOW that KC was gonna score on their last couple of possessions? Sometimes you have to gamble, and he refused even when it was obvious there was no choice.
Hardly a bad coach, but a fatal flaw IMO

There will never be another 46 defense. Not enough good corners to run it. However, a modified Jim Johnson defense absolutely could work. It would take someone creative to design blitzes that never look the same similar to how the offense can run multiple plays out of the same set. Obviously it would also take great talent too to pull it off.

Yep. FATAL! I get relying on your strength, especially when that strength is 4 guys with 10+ sacks but at some point you have to adjust when it’s not working. When Mahomes left the half nearly in tears I was SHOCKED he didn’t send a 5th guy every time.

With that said, the top defenses just don’t blitz much. Wanting a guy simply cause they blitz more isn’t the direction we should go in. More creative? Sure. Below are the top 5 defenses in points allowed last season and where they ranked blitz %.

49ers- 20
Bills- 23
Ravens- 21
Jets- 32
Bengals- 22

Eagles- 18 and ranked 8th in points allowed.

It’s a new era now. A Jim Johnson and Brian Dawkins defense get shredded in todays game. We gotta get out of that mindset

Those defenses worked because you could be physical and teams didn’t have 3-4 WR’s who could run as well as RB’s great in space and TE’s who can move. Now nearly all teams have those and you can’t be physical or hammer them.

Tell that to the fans who Want Seth Joyner. Its nauseating. I'd honestly love to see Seth get an NFL DC job just to see him fail and shut people up

Vance Joseph is returning to the Broncos.

OUT.
Isn't that the weirdest thing though? Former head coach fired and comes back as a DC?
How many Super Bowls has Steve Spags won as a DC since he was an unsuccessful HC?
Yea but did Spags become a DC for the Rams? Only 4 years after getting fired from them?
Sounds like a moving of the goalpost, but no haha, he did not.

Obviously guys have gone back to coordinator before. I meant have they gone back to be a coordinator for the team that they were a head coach of before. Let alone only 4 years after he was fired. I'd still be pissed.

All that matters to me is winning. Boring or not. That said, look up his record vs top QBs. It was ugly.

That entire Broncos coaching search process has seemed weird to me. Rex Ryan? Matt Patricia? I'm not a Joe Lombardi guy either but I guess he has a history with Payton so that makes a little sense.

It almost seems to me like Payton isn't plugged into the well regarded young assistants so he's just calling guys he knows of.

Without looking, I feel comfortable saying most teams don’t have winning records against top QB’s. Top QB’s win…a lot

Just looked for a sec. Jim Johnson was 0-3 against Peyton Manning and allowed 124 points in those games.

We really dodged a huge Bullet with Russel Wilson. Athletic today reported that Wilson tried to get Pete Carrol and Jon Schenider fired in SEA and get Sean Payton. In Den he had Players only State of the team Meetings with Players some said they were ok as they looked over film while others felt very uncomfortable with it.

Someone I recent talked to said he also tried to dictate personal in SEA including who his back Up QB was. Unconfirmed but also heard in the SB where he threw the INT against NE he went against what Carrol called in the huddle. Carrol being a players coach took the blame to protect Russ.

This guy is such an overrated Diva. Honestly considering what I've heard about Wilson over the year had we even drafted Wilson he wouldn't have survived Philly. The media and fans if they were with him every day would've seen what a fraud he was and eaten him alive.

Nope They are getting people in place who won't tolerate Russ Wilson's ********

If theres one WR who's cut for cap reasons and he wants to sign for lesser money Keenan Allen would be a fantastic fit here.

I was told this yesterday by Jason's FIL but was told I couldn't say anything. Also while we're on the subject The newest episode of the Kelce pod does a great job putting the SB in perspective and might take some sting out from the loss. Jason will most likely be attending the combine with Roseman, Lurie and coaches as well which is interesting.
