Keep in mind there's a few major differences in this situation: he's not a consensus #1 pick, he was involved in a tragic, off-field situation where he made some very bad decisions (lied to police, was racing/speeding after being pulled over for the same a few months prior), didn't test at the combine, interviewed poorly with some teams, and then had an awful pro day where he showed up out of shape, unprepared, and unable to finish the drills.

If none of the above happened, no one would blink an eye at this strategy. But since it did, it makes the strategy questionable, at best, and detrimental, at worst.

Tunsil slid to 13 for taking a bong hit, so Carter sliding outside of the top 10 for much more baggage isn't some remote possibility.

Very well could be. I just think in light of everything else surrounding him it's a bad look, but in 6 months no one will remember or care if he lives up to his potential.

Him and his agent are afraid of him falling do to all the issues with him. They are hoping it scares a top ten pick into taking him. Given all his issues I think he's a huge risk. You want UGA player in the top get me Nolan Smith

Arrogant selfish whatever you want to call it. This isn't a guy saying I won't go to X team he's saying I'm not going to multiple teams now. I spoke to a former scout I knew yesterday and he said given all the other issues with Carter that sends another red flag and he'd be telling his former team to take them off their board. Even if he becomes good negotiation a contract with this guy and his team doesn't seem worth the pain in the *** it's gonna eventually come.

Oh, I didn't say he'd last that long, I said I wouldn't want him before the 2nd (given what we know publicly...there could well be more private info to change my position).
Based on talent/performance (on tape) alone 7-10ish feels about right. He might slide some, but I'd be surprised if went past 20. Someone will take the chance.

Not only that but DT might be the most highly coveted position on the defense. Just look at the NFL free agency. Javon Hargrave got the highest AAV of the offseason on defense. 5 DT in the top 13 highest paid free agents this offseason.

True. Reminds me of the Lions just going to the well at WR until the eventually landed Calvin Johnson.

With that said, the Eagles have no depth at DT behind Williams, who is not really proven yet and Davis, who also is not proven yet. Cox won't be back next year. Pretty sure the Saints guy we just signed is a JAG, but maybe a rotation guy at best. No chance in hell, IMO, that Davis is *off* the Eagles board and no chance in hell he falls to the 2nd round. Drew Rosenhaus isn't an idiot, if he said "no meetings with teams outside the top 10" he definitely knows his guy will go high.

Carter reminds me of Warren Sapp, with both how dominant he is, the potential of the on field stuff and the potential off field stuff. During his career Sapp proved to be at least not a total turd. Once he retired, different story.

I really want this guy on the team. Red flags, what have you, IMO, the Eagles have a great locker room full of leaders that will be able to keep a guy like this in check while also coaching him up, showing him the tricks of the trade. Heck, even he could get into legal racing if he wants, a big thing Fletcher Cox does.

IF Carter drops to 10 and IF the Eagles draft him, its because Howie did his due diligence. I agree the Eagles have a strong clubhouse with Cox, Johnson, Kelce, Graham, etc. Sure his pro day was a flag, but I can't imagine that negates his entire college career.

I also trust that IF the Eagles drafted him, they've already spoken with Carter's former teammates for their input and got a favorable reaction. Trust in Howie!

I meant to add to the above, we are in peak smokescreen season. We have no idea what NFL teams think about Carter at this point. There isn't a person involved with an NFL war room who's leaking truthful, valuable information about their board or their intentions to beat writers, agents, twitter followers, or their spouse. If anything is leaked, its for a purpose.

Three weeks out from the draft, I don't trust any "leaked" information.

Most do private with their own people. They also interview friends, family and teammates and coaches. Most teams don't put out all the info. Scheftar just reports what teams tell him. You can get an educated guess on stuff from it too. Just based on the guys off field issues and everything it's safe to suggest Carter could possible drop pretty far just looking at other players in past drafts who have dropped for far less and just as good or better.

Graham is signed to a a 1 yr contract and is 34 yrs old. Sweat's salary jumps to $14 mil and there's a potential out next offseason.

I roster Sweat in IDP. He won me Week 16 (semis) this year with that bat and pick six against the Cowboys. So sweet watching him stiff arm Dak and motor forty-five or so sweet yards for the score. So many fantasy points there. Defended pass, interception, return yards, TD. I had such a weak offensive output Week 16 and along came that.

When Miami traded up from 1.12 to 1.06 in the 2021 draft with the goal of getting Chase or Waddle, the experts said Miami overpaid by giving up their 2022 1st and a 2021 4th, getting back a 2021 5th. Not only that, but giving up a future first is a huge risk, remember Miami started 1-7 in 2021.

I don't think PHI gets a trading partner for their 1.10 pick who is willing to give up a future 1st. To get DeVonta Smith at 1.10, PHI gave up their 1.12 (Micah!) and 3.20 to Dallas. I could see a similar value trade up of a few picks for Carter or one of the OTs, getting back a 3rd.

OTOH, if one if the QBs fall, something bigger could be offered.

And the Jets traded up 9 spots from 1.23 to 1.14 and gave up two 3rd rounders in 2021 and got back a 4th rounder.

And there were other trades involving 1st round picks with Adams, Orlando Brown, and Ramsey. Plus the SF trade up for Lance. 2021 was crazy.

I can't imagine Lane will be playing too much longer. Mailata has had back issues in the past and right now the only tackle they have behind them worth anything is Driscoll. Wouldn't be surprised in the least if they grab an OT at 10 or wherever that pick ends up. Especially since they probably won't be picking this high again in the near future.

I'd assume their board for that top pick is either OT/DL and then a CB.

I'm perfectly fine giving up on Parson's for Smith. Smith was huge in getting to the SB. I barely heard a word from Parsons in the playoffs and he seems to talk more then show up for big games. I'm letting Carter fall honestly I think people are underestimating how much this dude could drop. Teams are less willing to risk a high pick on guy with character issues. I'd be shocked if someone took Carter high.

the "word" was actually that they had their eyes on Mailata the whole time, so i wouldn't put it in a luck category. if i remember correctly they had actually traded up in the 7th round to grab Mailatta because they knew some other teams were ready to pounce on him too
