2023 San Francisco 49ers - No major injuries sustained Sunday. Week 15 @ Arizona (10 Viewers)

Bottom line is they knew what is was gonna take, and they haven't figured it out yet. They've had PLENTY of time this offseason to get it done.

Don't get me wrong, I want Bosa here, but this is just stupid.

I still think we can still start 3-1, even without him, which is almost a quarter of the season. Weeks 5 thru 14 is where we're gonna have to win some big games.

I think you underestimate how much Bosa makes the other mediocre guys better. Him not being there is a huge loss to the dline

I'm going to edit to add as well is that Bosa makes the DBs not look incompetent as well. They are going to get absolutely eaten alive with a lack of pressure
Yep, this Steelers game is going to be a problem. I can see the Steelers putting up some points on this defense sans Bosa, and putting Purdy in unfavorable passing situations with a new RT against an elite pass rushing unit (maybe Kittle out as well?). If SF loses like 24-6 I would not be stunned.

You don't need Bosa when CMac is unstoppable. Unless Pickett morphed into Brady this offseason this is an easy double digit win.

when will you guys learn?

Lol

Javon Hargave with his first sack as a 49er. That gives the team five. They also had a pair of interceptions. All against preseason Hall of Famer Kenny Pickett

Niners brought out the industrial size can of "whoop assssss". Very impressive

That D-line is scary. Drake Jackson had 3 sacks. Ferrall looks like a great depth piece. Hyder being Hyder. Kinlaw as a depth piece where he belongs. Warner and Greenlaw all over the field. Couple picks. Great start
That was with Bosa being a non factor too.

McKivitz got totally abused by Watt and Bosa looked rusty but otherwise that game was as good as anything a Niner fan could have dreamed up. Moody even looked great.

This kid gets it.

Nick Wagoner:

QB Brock Purdy on the 2nd TD he threw against Patrick Peterson after Peterson's INT promise last week:

"That one, I was like, all right that felt good.’ It was good. He’s a competitor. I have nothing but respect for Patrick Peterson and everything that he does."

Believe it!

With 220 passing yards and 2 touchdown passes in today's 49ers victory, Brock Purdy is the 1st QB in
NFL history to win each of his first 6 career regular-season starts and throw 2+ TD passes in each start.

MOODY!

Link

Jake Moody is the first rookie kicker to go 3 for 3 or better on extra points and field goals in season opener since Justin Tucker (3 FGs, 5 PATs) did it in 2012 for Ravens
Surely I wasn’t the only one holding my breath with Pittsburgh iced him in the first quarter. I was very relieved when he knocked that one in.

Jimmy G with a fumble on the 1 yard line, followed by a pick on the next play. So happy that bum is gone!
Have to agree here. Watching the 49ers offense is so much more enjoyable with Brock running the show. Nothing personal against Jimmy but he just wasn't very good.

Was actually happy for Jimmy to see him pull out the win yesterday.

The one thing besides RT we need to tighten up is penalties. We had 11 for 85 yards (Pit had 6 for 60). Only the Ravens had more penalties Sunday.

I hate to give Grant Cohn any play, but he can't even enjoy a dominant win without throwing jabs at Purdy. Cohn is a HUGE Lance fan, so his sourness shows every time he writes about Purdy. Here's what he wrote about yesterday's performance

"he clearly has less zip on his throws this year than last year before he had elbow surgery. Every pass he threw today floated through the air. His best throw was a 19-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Aiyuk, who was tightly covered by Patrick Peterson. Otherwise, almost all of Purdy's completions went to wide open receivers -- give him credit for finding them. But he also threw one pass that nearly got intercepted, plus he fumbled twice and recovered one of them. Which means he got somewhat lucky. A better opponent might have made him pay for those mistakes"

I mean, can't he just once be happy we won? Such a tool.

Seriously though. Watching Jimmy, I was always nervous hed make a bonehead mistake. I don't worry about that at all with Brock. That's not to say Brock won't or hasnt had bad plays, but I feel like he shakes them off and learns from them immediately and the next play he looks like Brock again. JImmy seemed to get in a funk REAL easy after a bad play and it would last multiple drives sometimes. Brock is a just a different breed.

That said, I'm happy Jimmy is happy in LV. I like him as a person, just not as QB.

We've seen that INT Jimmy threw today a million times from when he's with the Niners. He's scrambling, trying to make something happen, everyone's covered - throw it away? Nope, let's try forcing to a receiver with 3 defenders next to him.

Man, he must have been watching a different game than I was. Purdy had plenty of zip on the ball. A "better opponent"? Lot of people were predicting the Steelers would take this one and talked about how the Steelers secondary would abuse Purdy.

Cohn is a complete clown. I liked Lance too and think he can be a good NFL QB but come on, Purdy is the real deal.

Plus Purdy showed more functional athleticism than Lance ever did in dodging Fitzpatrick on the blitz and then on that 10+ yard scramble Purdy had in the second half.

Akash A:

Brock Purdy finished with the 3rd-highest Passer Rating in Week 1 (111.3).

Starting off 2023 right where he left off in 2022. Watching the game back over and it's amazing how in command he is of the offense after only 9 starts.

49ers’ defensive pressures in Week 1 vs. PIT per PFF:

1. Drake Jackson, 5
2. Arik Armstead, 5
3. Nick Bosa, 3
4. Javon Hargrave, 3
5. Javon Kinlaw, 2

49ers’ DL generated 28 pressures on Sunday.

Rarely do I come out of week 1 feeling this good, but I’m feeling good! I expect a few set back games for Brock through the season, but as a fan, you gotta love this kid!

I guess my biggest critique would again be against Shanny. Why is CMC carrying the ball with under 10 minutes left and a 23 point lead? We need to mix some COP backs in. CMC gets hurt, offense has to completely adjust. 15-16 touches a game max, it’s a long season. 25 touches a game is not a long term successful plan.

Yeah, as much as I like Shanahan, I didn't get not putting Mason in at the end of the game to run the clock out. Also, he put Bosa back in with a couple minutes left. I guess Bosa wanted a sack, but no reason for it. He got double teamed and took a decent hit on the play. Just unnecessary

49ers to work out QB Ian Book today.

Nick Wagoner:

A quick reminder that teams, including the 49ers, always use Tuesdays (the weekly day off) to work out players at all positions so they can keep their lists updated for if and when there are injuries on the roster.

Feeling good today, fellas.

It's nice to not have to talk about what's going wrong or needs to be fixed.

Here's a fun stat:

The 49ers are 1st team with a pick-6 in 4 straight seasons against the same opponent (Rams) since the Cardinals did it to Eagles in 1996-99. No team has done it 5 years in a row since the merger.

Pick 6's vs the Rams:

2019 Fred WWarner
2020 Javon Kinlaw
2021 Jimmie Ward
2022 Talanoa Hufanga
2023 ??????????

Who gets one this Sunday?

So ESPN seems to be in on the gag, per Deebo's outlook this week...

Samuel hauled in five passes on seven targets, accounting for 55 receiving yards, plus he ran two times for eight yards in Week 2. This is essentially Samuel's floor as he watched Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk do the heavy lifting in the 49ers 30-7 road trouncing of the Steelers. Start Samuel with confidence as he's likely to be more productive in Week 2 for the 49ers home opener against the vulnerable Rams defense.

65 percent 49er fans at the game this game seems kind of light.

I'll say Mooney Ward

49ers full injury report:
Samuel Womack (OUT)
Everyone else good to go!

The 49ers will place DB Samuel Womack III on IR with and MCL injury that happened at Wed practice. They do expect him to return this year, estimating 6-8 weeks. No surgery needed.

49ers DBs on the practice squad:
* Tre Swilling
* Shemar Jean-Charles
* Qwuantrezz Knight

Knight played NCB and S this summer.

Shanahan said Darrell Luter Jr. (knee) is expected back from PUP around Week 5 or 6

Whew! Rams came to play today, but as usual, Stafford kills his team with INTs.

Lots to clean up on both offense and defense. Hopefully we get a W Thursday and can then enjoy 10 days off.

Front 4 didn’t get home at all today. They did a great job blitzing in the second half but that’s a band aid. What was with the Rams kicking a FG as time expired? That has to have been motivated by the points spread right?

The defense is a serious concern right now. Against Stafford, we can wait for the inevitable mistake, to win a SB and beat the likes of Hurts and Mahomes, the defense needs to force those mistakes. After this game, hopefully they do some soul searching. Bosa is basically invisible, Hargrove meh. It’s early and we’re 2-0, so on the surface, it’s fine… but they need to start figuring this out right now.
