2024-25 NBA Thread: “At least we have Brian Schottenheimer to look forward to” depressed Mavs fan says to himself (12 Viewers)

Here is what @evansidery claims

There’s some buzz building around a potential Jimmy Butler trade framework including the Heat, Suns, Bucks and a facilitating fourth team.

Phoenix would receive Jimmy Butler. Milwaukee would receive Bradley Beal. Miami would receive Khris Middleton. Facilitator takes on salary.

Seems bizarre for Milwaukee unless they think Middleton is just 100% cooked
Doesn’t everyone on earth, including Middleton and his whole family, think he’s cooked at this point?
Probably fair but I guess what I also was thinking and didn’t say was how much does Beal add relative to the increased salary. Beal hasn’t helped Phoenix much, so why do expect him to be a positive in Milwaukee for the next three years paying him like three times as much as Middleton? I guess it’s still better and what else can Milwaukee do anyway.

I'll believe the Beal rumors when I see him suiting up for the Bucks at the Fiserv and not before. In other words, I agree with both of you.

He hasn't suited up that much for Phoenix

Would you rather have LaVine or Beal? Salary considered.
Based on this year's play, Lavine in a landslide. One of the many reasons I'll be shocked Beal would get moved before Lavine/other wings

You can't ask Lavine to play better than he has. And the Bulls still can't move him.

Beal's been fine when healthy. He just hasn't been able to stay healthy. And adds nothing to what Booker/Durant already provide. Suns aren't just a Butler away from doing anything. They still can't defend or rebound. And benching Ryan Dunn doesn't help their defense

Until recently, the Suns were trying to use Beal more as a facilitator, rather than just a scorer, until his recent move to the bench. He’d be a better fit for the Bucks than the Suns IMO.

Might be moot since his agent came out today and said the stories of him being willing to waive his no-trade were false.

Yay.
Yeah I watched too and it's concerning how poor they are near the end of the game versus how good they were.

Also, after about a half a season watching Julius Randle, I imagine the feeling is similar to how the Celtics fans viewed Antoine Walker back in like 2004. He's too good to not be on the floor, but he drives you nuts when he is.

Random musings:
- SGA is MVP this year. Period. (That Jokic guy is amazing too.) And this isn’t because he dropped a 50 piece last night. For him to do what he consistently does night in and night out, as a guard (53/35/90!!), is insane.
- Non “elite” team (at least from the public’s perspective) I would least want to see in the playoffs is Houston. Damn good team. Amen is an animal. Distant runner-up are the Clips. How are they good? They never seem to lose in a blowout, and looking at their roster, they should with frequency. Especially when Harden and/or Kawhi don’t play.
- The Gobert trade led to an incredibly fun year last year, but it’s going to be a train wreck of a trade for the Wolves. Give me Walker Kessler, the first of the 1sts the Wolves game up to Utah, over Gobert straight up today. 🤢 Which leads to…
- Chris Finch is wholly unimaginative as a head coach and needs to go. If I have to watch another end of game play be drawn up as “iso Ant at the top of the key and watch him take a bad fall away three / long two at the buzzer,” I’m going to puke. Every. Damn. Game.
- The Heat should let Jimmy Butler sit at home for the rest of the year. %#&@ that guy. What an absolute s h i t teammate he’s been his entire career.

Regarding SGA, I think he is going to get the award and he'll deserve it. BUT Jokic is having the best year of his career and now that he isn't dragging a half interested/fat Murray, the Nuggets are on a roll. FWIW, Basketball Reference's MVP tracker (which uses a model built using old results but doesn't take into account media storylines, obviously) has Jokic at a 63% probability, SGA at 28% and the field at 9% - because the probability is so low, there are some funny inclusions like Sabonis, three Cavs (not Mitchell), and Jalen Williams.

I think Houston is a year and a player away from making any waves in the playoffs - teams will scheme much more against them offensively (simplistically, clog the paint and get defensive rebounds, let their poor shooters shoot, and get back on D... easier said then done, but doable) and they won't be able to score at all. Offensively, they are not a playoff caliber team in the half court and when the playoffs come around and teams are more focused on not allowing fast break points (Houston is #2 in the league) and playing more fundamentally (i.e. not allowing 30% offensive rebounds where Houston is #1 in the league), I think they'll be cooked.

Would you rather have LaVine or Beal? Salary considered.

I don't think there is any argument for Beal. LaVine is younger, better, has a better contract, and is less of an injury risk. The only thing going for Beal is that he is probably slightly better defensively. LaVine has been a borderline all-star this season.

I agree. It was just really weird to me to read about all these potential landing spots for Beal when the interest in LaVine seems mild.

I think it is because Chicago wants picks for LaVine while Beal would be more of a my trash for your trash sort of trade. If Chicago was willing to take some bad salary, I imagine LaVine would be gone by now.

There hasn't been much reporting about exactly what the Bulls are asking for these days but I'd guess you're probably right. We'll see what happens at the deadline. I honestly have no idea.

Jeff Green was awesome in 2023 for the Nuggets.

Respectfully... doesn't this describe Antoine Walker?

The combination of him and Van Vleet will be unstoppable come playoff time

no because antoine has the greatest basketball line of all time a reporter asked him hey antoine why do you shoot all those threes and he answered because there aint no fours so that makes him awesome while meanwhile randall is still a bag of stink take that to the bank brochacho

Hard to argue with this analysis :lmao:

Beal trade talk seems to have died off.

Even if Middleton is dust, Id still look at many different homes for him before doing a Beal deal.

If Suns somehow deal Beal this season, which I do think is why they made that 1st round pick deal as it opens them up to dealing other 1sts as well, I'll consider anyone able to be dealt in the future as I think they're stuck with him

And doing this on the road. The Blazers just demolishing the Magic! Damn Sam, this is a nice suprise!

Maybe a poverty franchise like Philadelphia should study the Portland Process.

Lu Dort is really the worst. If Draymond wasn't so infamous already this guy would be the headline of all the dirty ****.

If OKC actually goes far in the playoffs, he will be public enemy number one.

The worst part is he sucks (-20 tonight) again but now that he's ejected, OKC probably comes back and wins.

That was all ball imo

Dallas, by the way, missing:
Luka
Lively
Klay

(3/5 starters and their best lineup members alongside Kyrie and PJ)

Naji Marshall (6th man)
Dante Exum (Lukas backup)
Jaden Hardy (Exums backup)
Dwight Powell (3rd string center)

Absolutely brutal.

Awesome game. PJ Washington absolutely locks up SGA to seal it before chasing down his TWENTIETH rebound.

We'll see if Dallas can get healthy and what the playoffs draw is. But poor OKC could actually run roughshod through the entire NBA, get the one seed, and then have to face Dallas coming out of the play in games in round one.

OKC against 28 other teams: 35-5
OKC against Dallas: 1-3

Jokic with a stat line of 35-22-17 including a 75 foot baseball toss to end the 3rd. He is incredible.

Sat next two two Kings fans at the game tonight... I didn't know they existed outside of Sacramento.
There are a surprising number around the country that grew up with the early 2000s teams and remained fans. They get “light the beam” chants in a bunch of road venues.

That heave was bleeping ridiculous.

I was going to say those early 2000s Kings teams were a lot of fun and probably added some lifelong fans. I really thought this current core was on a similar path and then something happened, not sure what other than adding Derozan.

After last night, Jokic jumped to 74%, SGA down to 18%, and the field at just more than 7%.

Yeah, Jokic is filthy. Another MVP is well deserved as he’s having the best year of his career (how is that even possible with the run he’s had?!). It’s too bad there can’t be co-MVPs this year, because SGA just carries that OKC team with his daily consistency too.

I looked at basketball reference - he has 38 heaves for his career but this was make number 1. FINALLY paid off.

I still think Jokic is the best player in the NBA by a fairly wide margin BUT I'm okay with a little bit of MVP voter fatigue giving it to SGA this year if they keep it up.
Yeah I view it similar to Lamar v. Allen with Jokic being Lamar.

Rare situations where I'd be okay with the otherwise  co-MVP award. All four have been that good.

It'd be funny if the unmovable Beal was moved for Lavine who the Bulls haven't been able to move for years.. That's the only scenario I've ever thought the Suns could get off Beal. Suns are so limited as a 2nd apron team.

Problem for Suns they'd still be built around 3 scorers with overlapping talents with minimal defense. Still, I'd move Beal for Lavine all day.

Wouldn't be a surprise at all if Beal said no to a trade and remained content coming off bench in Phoenix. This is the same guy that wanted a no-trade to remain in Washington....

I would guess there is about a 0% chance that the Bulls would be interested
