2024-25 NBA Thread: Kevin Love fulfillls destiny by being traded to Utah (12 Viewers)

Cam Whitmore to Zards

Love the move by the Zards. Really like the young offensive firepower they've added this offseason.

Not a fan at all with this dump by the Rockets
Rockets needed to shed salary for the DFS and Capela adds and Durant deal.
They really should have done better for Whitmore even needing to shed. I think Whitmore can easily be a 20+ PPG scorer (in the 6 games as a 19-20 year old in which he's played at least 30 minutes, he's averaged 21-7-2)

Still 20 with a career 11ppg in 17mpg. Robbery by the Zards. JMO may be the most underrated move of the offseason. Huge fan of his and what he's shown in the league. Certainly doesn't lack talent ....only opportunity. Wouldn't surprise at all if Cam wound up an All Star at some point in the East. Suns absolutely should have found a way to get him in the Durant deal if that is what the price was.

They've had a terrific offseason and have had an embarrassment of riches of young telent. Just not a fan of the Cam giveaway

Gimme Whitmore over @Capella . FTG and his money grab university and witty thread titles.

Certainly a surprising cost. I remember him mocked a ton in top 5 in his draft 2 years ago before falling to 20. I think he's more than shown he should have gone closer to 5 than 20.

I really like the offseason Washington is having.

Yeah I was hoping Lakers would have added to the 7-team mega deal to get him in a sign and trade for DFS.

I too like the deal for the Wizards. They are doing a very nice job acquiring young talent with upside and setting themselves with a ton of cap space in the future. I mentioned it earlier in the thread—I think they are doing a nice job laying out the foundation for what could be a nicely orchestrated re-build. However, the question is if they can execute properly and make the right moves with the flexibility that they will have moving forward.

Whitmore was drafted 20th, barely played in Houston and then was traded for two seconds. I’m guessing he just sucks.

True, but he is young, he is cheap both to acquire and his salary. There are should have been more teams on this. I would have loved the Pistons to kick the tires. At worst you are out two 2nd round picks that can be bought back in almost anything given draft. In the right situation he could flourish as a 6th man.

Report scuttlebutt is that Houston had muliple offers for Whitmore but dealt him to Washington as a solid ...He's from Baltimore, Washington looks like they are laying a solid foundation, and the opportunity door is wide open (which it wasn't in Houston).

As a budding Zards fan (my 2nd team), I think it's a solid development.

They've really got some very high upside offensive swings this off-season.

With the Tics offloading Zinger/Jrue and no Tatum & along with the Haliburton/Lillard injuries, I wouldnt be surprised with a sizable jump by the Zards in the East this season. Really like what they're setting up there

He has?
24th in minutes played from that draft. He can score, but he does nothing else on the floor. Refuses to pass the ball. And it seems that NBA teams don't think he is worth much. I am guessing in a redraft he would go much closer to 20 than 5

Yeah, he's kind of a black hole on offense and doesn't really get it but he is young and was on a short leash under Udoka. Never got a proper chance to shine but I also didn't see much when he did play. I'm glad he's going to a low stakes team where he will get more PT because he'd wilt away on the Houston bench in 25/26. It wouldn't surprise me to see him average 15-20 points with the Zards.

This feels like spot on analysis. I was excited when the Rockets stole him late in the draft but circumstances have led us to this point. He's not cracking the Rockets lineup now, needs to learn passing and defense, but has crazy athletic talent. He needs to play for a team where his wild style can shine while he develops.

They are going to be terrible this season because they want to be terrible. Also because they lack above average players at every position

Kasparas Jakucionis has looked really rough in his first two games with the Heat. With how rattled he was at the point for the last couple months of the season with the Illini, I think there's legit concerns with his viability as an NBA PG (a starting one anyway). I think he's gonna have to spend substantial time in the G league this season. No way he could have saw falling to #20 but he'd have been better off with another year at Illinois.

VJ Edgecombe looked real good on both ends last night.

I'm surprised how meh Knecht 4 has looked in the first 2 games of Summer league. Guy was taking over NBA games at times this past season. He really needs to be dealt off the Lakers. Lakers are going absolutely nowhere this season as they're currently constructed.

Obviously GM's saw something they didnt like in Kasp to have him drop so far

Summer league Nets games should be interesting with 5 rookies playing lol

What are the Jazz doing?

The Jazz were never getting much for Collins or Clarkson.

My personal take is that Ainge and the Jazz got too greedy and held too long. The Jazz had plenty of time in the past couple of season to move some of their veteran players for decent/solid return and they didn’t pull the trigger. They ended up holding so long that the rest of the league knew that they would eventually just have to dump their players and this is what is happening. We’re seeing decent quality players that can still provide a lot (Collins, Sexton, Clarkson) being let go for nothing. In Sextons case, they had to give a pick up in order to get a lesser player in return. Ainge got a lot of credit for what he was able to trade Gobert and Mitchell for—but in my opinion—he’s failed miserably since. I think that franchise has become a purgatory for both the fans and the players.

So the Clippers effectively trade Powell for Beal and Collins. I guess that’s a pretty decent upgrade. I do like watching Powell shoot though.

Idk what the Heat are doing. Are they trying to compete? With that roster?

If the Clippers can land Beal—I think that they are really trying to make a run on maybe a 2 year window. Kawhi, Harden and Beal are not spring chickens—but I do think they all still have some in their tank. Beal’s biggest issues are his contract and staying healthy. His numbers are not terrible. He averaged basically 17-4-3 last season on nearly 50% from the field and nearly 40% from the 3pt line. Those are only terrible numbers for somebody that gets overpaid, somebody that can’t stay on the court—or both. I do think that a lot of the Suns players “checked out” last season, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bit of a resurgence from Beal this year if he can stay healthy.

Miami is in a tough spot. They are going to have to make a decision on Herro soon. The dude is a great offensive player and can be fun to watch—but we’re probably talking about a guy that’s going to want $35-40mil a year on an extension. He’s also a guy that gets easily exposed and targeted by good teams on teh playoffs on the defensive end. Bam’s contract pays his a ton this year and the next two years. Wiggins has a contract that has him at 28million and 30 million over the next two seasons (not great, but not horrible). They do have some younger players with upside—ware, Jacquez—but those guys scream competent 4th options to me. They are kind of in a no mans land where they really aren’t in a position to make any moves to win now, nor does their future seem to have a clear path to potential success.

Yea no way in hell. He’s a guy they go after on every defensive possession in the playoffs. He can score but if you give him 35M you are in hell.

Also sounds like the Clips are the leaders for Paul.

So Harden-Beal-Zubac-Collins-Kawhi with Paul, Lopez, Bogdanovic, Derrick Jones off the bench? That’s the real unc team. Looks good on paper but doubt they can get through 4 rounds of the playoffs healthy.

Always kinda liked Collins. Thought he was an underrated part of the Hawks deep run.

I liked Collins a lot a while ago, but when next season starts that conference finals run was five years ago and he has been mostly bad since then. He had decent numbers last year, but it was for a team that was tanking.

The only good part is he is on the last year of his deal.

That team is built to win 55 regular season games and lose by 55 points in game 7 of the second round of the playoffs.
