2024-25 NBA Thread: Mavs fans devastated but Cowboy fans excited to have Luka (11 Viewers)

Am I foolish to think Golden State might also pose some problems in the West or are they an afterthought?
Somewhere in between. Really depends on Steph. If he can stay on/recreate the heater he’s on now, they certainly will be dangerous.

I love the Warriors and follow them closely. I would be surprised if they won a series and stunned if they made any type of noise.

I love Curry and thought he had an argument for greatest PG ever, but these last few years have put a damper on that and need to be held against him.
Huh? How have they put a damper? He won a title 3 years ago with Wiggins as the 2nd best player on the team.

Look at all the years around it. They are barely 500 and have missed the playoffs in a league where over half the teams make the playoffs andvthe other half tank and don't try.

It isn't a good look.

Edit: just because Wiggins sucks before and after 2022 doesn't change the fact he was awesome that year.
Cool. Strong take.

Tatum 40, 12 and 8 in a win against one of the hottest teams in the league.

Boston fans: trade him
:lmao:
Hardcore Celtic fans actually think he is a top 3 player in the league. I frequent a Boston sports forum and my god the adulation is off the charts. It is a funny thing though and think you are right that casual Celtic fan is more in the “trade him” camp while the others wouldn’t trade him for anyone but pre injury Wemby.

It is just odd to me. Great player. Top 10 in the league, not a bad person, biggest reason they are a threat every year, already has a title at 27 and Boston fans love him too much (like 25 percent) and the rest want him gone. It just puzzles me so much. It would be like the Bucks fans wanting to get rid of Giannis.

No you just asked the question and then didn't like the answer and gave a lame response.

I applaud the effort. It’s just not a quality take IMO. Trying too hard to be contrarian. But hey, reasonable minds can disagree.

Wat?

falling down after shooting a 3 when you aren't touched needs to be a tech. call it the "Jayson Tatum Rule"
Depends. I have horrible ankles-12 sprains one complete rupture. At the end of my playing days I would buckle anytime someone came near my landing area to lessen the liklihood of rolling it off i landed on their foot. If he's trying to draw a foul, then yeah T him up.

Yeah, I don't know what what msu is watching but Curry has single handedly kept that team afloat. With Jimmy on board and Kuminga coming back I give them a good chance of making a playoff run.

I am going to go out on a limb (stronger than your ankles) and say that's not the reason these players are falling

It absolutely is part of the reason. When you jump in the air a couple hundred times a week you are bound to land awkwardly either from your own imbalance or because of someone elses foot/body. Falling to the ground is a way to avoid or limit the chances of inuring yourself. For sure, they fall to try and draw a call, but that's not the only reason

I never want to count out championship experience. Curious if Butler has another epic playoff run in him.

Amen Thompson was a rebound away from a triple double before exiting with an ankle injury. Hope he's okay. He's been such a treasure for us fantasy nerds who lucked into him.

LeBron James 🤝 GOB

Pulled their groin tonight
James will be out a couple of weeks at least. Sucks, but he was logging too many minutes these past several months, not surprising it caught up with him. I could see the Lakers dropping multiple spots in the standings while he's out.

Shaping up to be Cle/Bos vs OKC/GSW. Interesting
Nah, we are watching a little preview of the WCF today and tomorrow.

Current standings are ideal for the Thunder. Den, Lakers, Warriors, and hopefully Minnesota all on the other side. Clips or whoever in round 1, Memphis/Houston in round 2, then whoever is left in the WCF if they can get there.

OKC showed why they are the best team in the west. The game was closer than the final score, but OKC really handled Denver outside of the first 6 minutes of the game.

Meh. Give OKC proper due but losing AG midway through the 1st qtr completely changed the complexion of that game. Denver is going nowhere without a healthy starting 5, but otherwise they are even odds with anyone in the West.

Seriously. It has surpassed traveling as my most annoying thing about the NBA, that fake fall. I love your name for it.
This is the worst
That's fairly subtle. If the ref doesn't have a good angle, that looks like he just jumps straight up.

ETA: I get your point though. There is a feature length movie worth of clips of Embiid doing this kind of stuff.

I was strolling by a hoops court at the park the other day and stopped and watched for a bit. It was funny to see these middle-aged men doing the same thing. Then helping each other up after.

When we played hoops as a kid (and adult) I don't remember anyone falling down. Or rarely, when warranted. And they didn't need help up.

Funny to watch older guys copying pros flopping.

Shouldnt be a foul even if he jumped straight up

Yes it should, because then the contact would have been caused by Westbrook moving under him. That's what the ref called. He was fooled into thinking the contact was caused by Westbrook.

The only reason you know what happened is because you watched it at the best angle in slow motion.

Sorry, but when I think of all time great players, they can't just keep their team afloat. They should be making deep runs in the playoffs consistently and not missing the playoffs.

Curry is my all time favorite player. I thought he had a real chance to move into the best ever point guard talk and top 8ish player of all time, but these last couple years have put a damper on that IMO.

I hope I am wrong and Warriors make a run this year, but I don't see it. I think it is more likely that they fall into the play-in and miss the playoffs completely then win a first round series against the Lakers or Nuggets.

Even for someone choosing to root for the Celtics for some reason, I don’t see why there needs to be rules about who you can and can’t be a fan of. Cheer for who you want to. Life is too short to be miserable. Teams and players aren’t always loyal to each other, why should fans be the only ones locked into things.

I don't think anybody in here is taking this seriously, just some good natured back and forth.

That said, I'm astonished there are fans of teams in cities they've never once stepped foot in before. That seems weird. I am not losing any sleep over it, but that's very peculiar, IMO.
Similarly, I don’t get the individuals who are diehard fans of college teams where they didn’t attend college (eg Alabama).

There are arguments that can be made against Curry being an all-time great player (not that I agree or disagree with them), but yours is a bit simplistic. The only post-merger players I can think of that meet it are Kareem, Magic, and Duncan. Not Michael Jordan, not Shaq, not Kobe, not Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird, or Hakeem. LeBron James has made it out of the first round twice in his 7 years with the Lakers, so I guess he's out, too.

Since Klay Thompson and Durant were hurt in the 18-19 Finals against Toronto, there hasn't been a legit second banana in Golden State outside of Wiggins' tinkerbell season, in which they won another championship. Since Butler arrived they are 11-2 and are a totally different team, with swagger. You should watch more of your favorite player, he's not done. Kareem and Duncan make your list because their teams found another transcendent talent to pick up the slack as they aged, and Magic retired at 31 (Curry turns 37 next week). Maybe the Warriors have found a legit second wind in Jimmy Butler, maybe not. But for that to be the deciding factor in whether Curry is an "all time great" or not seems arbitrary and somewhat capricious, having more to do with circumstance than the talent of the individual player.

If Curry retired at the All-Star break this year, with his recent playoff non-success, I'd agree that his career ended with a whimper, just as it does for most players. I wouldn't agree that that means Jordan et al aren't all time greats, and it shouldn't for Curry, either, especially with his chapters still being written.

Meh, it's commonplace in a lot of these towns where there isn't a professional team (College Station, Austin, etc)

Kareem missed the playoffs two years in a row at his absolute peak in 74/75 and 75/76

If Curry were 27, that would be one thing. It doesn't seem fair to hold someone in their age 34-37 seasons to that standard IMO.

Good post except he isn't the all time leader in steals, but #47.

he won the three point contest twice
Hey bromigochacho, I agree with everything else in your post about Curry's greatness. It was a great and very detailed post. With respect to the above part, all I have to say is this:

Say what?
he was also an all star game mvp twice which is equally worthless but the point i was trying to make that is that he is an integral part of the nba zeitgeist take that to the bank browordo

Here. And yes, some say that had I been allowed to participate, Steph would have won zero three point contests.

That's me.

1) I went to a DIII school
2) Moved to Oregon in 1996, went to my first game that fall and was talked into buying season tickets in 2001
3) My oldest is graduating from Oregon in June
4) His little brother was there 2 years.....sort of. I mean, he was there, but he didn't make it to many of his classes, so he's home now rooting the Ducks on with us.

I make no apologies for this.
