2024 Buffalo Bills (2 Viewers)

I'm still feeling something like 9-8 here. Not trying to be negative coming off a win. I just think we have too many missing pieces on defense.

Our defense is going to be a major liability. Although Kyler Murray looked pretty good today and his legs were a major problem.

When do we get Milano back? And what’s up with Taron?

what is the deal with Josh Allen? NBC just said he got hurt today and his hand didn't look good.
His right elbow slammed into his left (non-throwing) hand. He got the left hand heavily taped, played the rest of the game, and went for x-rays after the game. No other word than that.

I don’t think the defence was as bad as it looked.

They have always been a defence that gives up yards. Arizona had a good offense last year after Murray returned and were a popular upset pick this week, most people expected them to score.

They scored 17 in the first half, 4 of which were a gift on the phantom roughing call.
They scored 3 in the second half.

To me that is a GREAT day on defence, it just looked bad due to the yardage in the first half.

It was Arizona. No offense to the Cardinals or their fans, but the Bills were solid favorites coming into this game for a reason. You are right that we "should" have won fairly easily but for that roughing call, the fumble, and the KO return. But we don't get to play the Cardinals every week, and if you had asked Bills fans at the beginning of the season "Which player besides Josh Allen can this team least afford to lose?" Matt Milano and Taron Johnson would have both been in the Top 5 of the ensuing list.

The goal here is to win playoff games, and I have zero confidence in this defense to help against that sort of opponent. Our best chance of beating good teams is to win a track meet, which we're perfectly capable of doing but it's not exactly a balanced approach either.

Honestly, they're probably #2 and #3 on the list. I think they're the 2nd and 3rd best players on the entire team, and I'm not sure it's particularly close. Maybe Bernard or Dawkins could have a claim, I suppose.

Rousseau is getting pretty important to this team. Maybe Oliver. But none are really on Milano level. And none are obviously close to Allen.

Dawkins was the other guy I had in mind. I don't know what happens if we lose our LT, but I'm sure it isn't good.

Taron already ruled out for Week 2. Sure hope we don’t play anyone with a bunch of great receivers that like to line up in the slot.

Also, the team is never going to tell us what the deal is with Allen's non-throwing hand, but that injury is still a big deal until it resolves itself. Sure, it doesn't affect Allen's ability to throw the football, but it does affect his ability to take a snap, secure the ball, and scramble. It has the potential to make Allen not-Allen to some degree.

Fun stat of the day: The Bills are 6-0 against Jalen Ramsey teams since he called Josh Allen trash.

In other news, it’s great that the Bills are 2-0 and I think that there are some really great things to take away so far, but the defensive injuries are just brutal. They’ve now lost probably the 3 guys they could afford least to lose and it’s likely to be significant time for all 3. Not ideal. Massive credit to the coaching staff to overcome that through 2 weeks.

The Bills may have whiffed on Elam, but Benford is really really good.

Great job by the O-line against Miami. Miami’s offensive and defensive lines aren’t great, but still impressive to have a totally clean stat sheet. No sacks and no QB hits at all Thursday. At most the Dolphins might get credit for like 2 hurries.

Defensively, they’vr struggled a bit against the in and in the screen/short passing game to RBs, but otherwise the Bills have been fantastic against 2 very good passing offenses. So much for the secondary being a major concern.

Defensive injuries aside, the offense certainly seems like they aren't missing Diggs or Davis much at all. That's extremely encouraging. Of course, it's only been two weeks and maybe they'll get figured out as teams get more tape to watch, but I like what I'm seeing so far.

I think McDermott needs more credit than he’s given. His defence on Thursday was half backups and they still looked really good.
Plus Lewis and Ingram are UDFA’s from UB. Bedford is a 6th rounder? Hamlin a 5th?
And they shut down a potent passing offense.
McDermott is the reason our D is one of the best since he took over as HC.

I strongly believe the Bills would have a ring already if not for injuries the last few years.

I hope I am not saying that again after this year 😢

Need some injury luck at some point.

Pretty impressive that the Bills allowed less than 100 yards receiving to McBride/MHJ/Hill/Waddle. Not less than 100 yards individually, less than 100 yards for all 4 of them combined.

Cardinals looking really good in week 2
Patriots... Whatever...
Dolphins, without a QB for who knows how long...
Jets have been far from impressive.

Anyone else FAR more confident in winning the division again now, as opposed to 3 weeks ago?

I sure am. I expected the defense to be a weakness, not terrible but not up to past efforts. They have not been a weakness so far this year. And the injuries have been insane.

Rousseau and Von Miller have been fantastic. So have the CBs, including Cam Lewis coming in for Taron. The LBers are still a major concern, but they’ve worked around it pretty well.

Lost in the big win Thursday night but something that probably needs to be discussed more and more… what the HECK was that last FG attempt from Bass?!?! Easy kick with zero pressure and it was one of the worst misses I’ve ever seen.

They have to bring someone else in. At this point I think he’s clearly more likely to miss a game winning FG in the playoffs than make one.

Yep. At the start of the season, I thought we were a mild underdog against the field. Now I'll be pretty disappointed if we don't take the division.

I know the Jets have a good team on paper, but at this point they're sort of like the drought-era Bills. They've been irrelevant for so long that they're going to need to prove it before I seriously worry about them. They do seem to be our main competition at the moment though, and they've played us pretty tough the last couple of years.

Big shout out and thanks to the NFL players who voted Josh as the most overrated player in the league. Through 3 games he’s been the best player in the league without a doubt.

Props to Joe Brady too. He’s been calling great games.

The next 3 weeks should tell us who the Bills really are. They’ve looked dominant, but the Dolphins and Jags have looked awful all around and the Cards are mediocre and also showed some rust in week 1.

At Baltimore, Houston and NYJ should be a different challenge. The Bills being 2 point dogs to the Ravens right now is evidence of that.

Can you imagine how impressive this defense would be if their 3 (probably) best players weren't injured?

Milano and Taron yes. I would put Oliver Rousseau, Douglas and maybe even Benford above Bernard as far as “best” goes.

Though because of their perceived lack of depth and Milano already being hurt meant that Bernard is a bigger loss than if those other guys got injured.

Allen looks a lot more confident and going through progressions well without Diggs over his shoulder. I am surprised on how well the oline and defense has played. If those holdup there is no reason you guys are not serious contenders this year.

Yeah, we'll know a lot more about this team three weeks from now. All three of these teams are at least pretty good, and they have a few weeks of film to go off of now. Should be interesting.

Spencer Brown has given up the fewest QB pressures in the league for an OT (Zero).

Dion Dawkins has given up the second fewest QB pressures (Three).

That seems good.

Onn the broadcast they kept showing lots of love toward Gabe Davis from the Bills before the game. Wonder if Diggs will get the same treatment this week.

O/U for Shakir in the first quarter is 5.5 yards.

I have to think there is a good chance they toss him an easy WR screen early to break the record for consecutive targets caught.

If you can stomach re-watching that play it looks like it was supposed to be a sweep to Allen to the right? Nothing about it makes sense.

Kincaid is pulling and heading in that direction, there are only two WRs out on routes against four in the secondary and the Oline is not pass blocking on the left.

In fact, they are standing there doing nothing for a few seconds leaving one of the defenders unblocked so he can go lay a huge hit on Allen.

Dawkins whiffed on his block and the pitch to Allen made him have to stop and catch it.

Bad play design, bad execution, bad time to call it. Oof

I am ready for a coaching change at the end of the season.
I've been ready for it since 13 seconds.

I think McDermott is a good coach overall. He's stable, seems like a good leader of men, a great defensive mind. He was the right coach at the right time when they hired him 2017. I feel like he's probably a really good man off-the-field. But they're not going to win a Super Bowl with him at the helm.

He was 100% the right hire for the 2017 Bills, and he'd be a great hire for a team like the Bears or somebody.

Trade for Davante Adams?
Honestly, I'm not sure any team needs it more.
Expanding on this, the Bills ran 61 plays yesterday, and despite Shakir being out, Coleman and Kincaid were on the field for less than 65% of them. They need someone to step up, and be the guy, and it doesn't seem like its gonna be either of them anytime soon, and Shakir isn't that type of talent.
I'm Officially Disappointed in what we're seeing out of Kincaid so far. I know it's only his second year, and it takes TEs a little while to develop. But he seemed like such a naturally gifted pass-catcher last year that I was expecting a big increase in production from him, and obviously that hasn't happened. I'm speaking here as a fan, not a fantasy owner who is just looking at stats. Kincaid just doesn't seem to be contributing much to the offense. Mack Hollins seems more involved in the offense.

(No idea what the problem is -- just noticing that there is a problem).

This is a good breakdown of the woes the last couple weeks.

Teams are playing Cover 1 as they have zero worry about the Bills burning them.

This let’s them flood the short passes and have another defender up close to help with the pass. Then add in WRs who can’t separate and some drops and it gets ugly quick.

Cover 1

I have to make a decision soon on PSLs for the new stadium and I don’t see how I am going to throw my money down to support this regime.

Watching players lose a game is one thing, watching coaches do it (repeatedly) is not something I am going to pay for.

FWIW as someone who watches the Panthers, Brady seemed great for 6-8 games but then fell off quickly. Maybe he's easy to figure out?

Until they get a guy that can win outside, this will be what they are.

They'll be better w/ Shakir back, but what they have is a bunch of guys good underneath and nobody that can win outside or deep. Cooper or Adams needed in the worst way as Coleman isn't there yet. Coleman at least as made a couple of plays, Hollins/Samuel/MVS just wasting targets

Brian Thomas Jr was the fit for this team

Oh man, he would’ve been a perfect fit with Josh and I have no doubt Beanne probably tried to get him.
I think Coleman will have a nice role with us going forward but he’s not the #1 we need.
