2024 College Football Thread: Ohio State advances to play unbeaten hypothetical SEC team (3 Viewers)

Being a Lions fan now it’s so hard watching these scared coaches not go for it on 4th down.
Go watch Dave Aranda at Baylor. He goes for it on 4th a lot, and fails a lot.
Yeah you are going to fail a lot but doesn’t mean it isn’t the right move. You can’t judge going for it on 4th on a small sample size. Ray Allen failed on 3 of every 5 three point shots but he was right to take them.

Panic pass, panic pass. Fail.

Golden with a solid B. Denbrock with a D this far. Bryce Young is talented but sheesh he’s playing dumb so far. Too amped up so hopefully he chills out and trusts his talent.

CB #7 on UGA has bad technique. He has all year. Long and a track guy. But he's not good at stopping routes. Surprised ND hasn't gone after him.

Not reading through the last few pages, as I don't want to relive that debacle any further. That was....not good. Totally outclassed from the kickoff. It's amazing how different tOSU has become in the past month, I just don't see how anyone beats them at this point with that much talent now that the coaches seem to have figured out how to get the most out of it. They totally outschemed the Ducks on both sides of the ball, and Lanning and staff had no answers. Still believe in him and the trajectory of the program, as not too many first time head coaches pick up a natty in year 3 and each year has been a little better than the last. But he does need to keep growing and learning.

More importantly he needs to get some elite skill position guys here. The whole "unlimited NIL" Uncle Phil narrative is such a tired and lazy take, as the Ducks aren't even in the top 10 in spend this year by most estimates, and tOSU paid at least double for that roster. And it sure showed on the field! It will be interesting to see the roster management over the next few months. They've got a bunch of youngsters waiting in the wings at QB, RB, in the secondary, etc, that on paper are more talented than the transfers he's brought in the past couple of years to man those spots. A few contributors have decisions to make on staying, transferring, or going pro. Great recruiting class coming in, but you usually can't count on more than a couple of them contributing in year 1.

The Rose Bowl is always amazing, so no regrets. Stayed at an ABNB with 6 other friends, saw a bunch more that were down here on NYE and at the game, and another perfect weather day in Pasadena on Jan 1. If you've never been, I highly recommend it! After the game came back to our place and cancelled all the travel plans for Dallas and Atlanta. I guess that's the only silver lining, probably just saved myself about $5K!
As an outsider looking in, to me Oregon needs to start investing in line play. Their fat guys dominated your fat guys all game.

If Oregon ever figures out THAT part is the most important part - then they win national championships.

That was definitely true of the Ducks in their earlier runs to the playoffs/BCS era. They'd destroy lesser teams with speed and skill players, but would run into a problem when they faced LSU, Auburn and Ohio State. It was men against boys on the line.

But the last coach Oregon had (can't remember his name his haircut is stupid and he looks like he enjoys eating boogers) started recruiting big boys on the line, which Dan Lanning continued, so it's been a priority.

And, if you look at recent NFL drafts, you see guys like Penei Sewell going in the top 5 (he's probably the best OT in pro football right now) and Kayvon Thibedeux who plays well on the DL when healthy (also taken top 5 in the draft).

But you're right, they need to learn from this one. It was bad all the way around and I'm not sure if it was just a one-off bad game or something that's more problematic. I mean, they don't have Ohio State's WRs or RBs, that much was obvious. Also not sure Dylan Gabriel was anything more than a system QB who was good but not capable of elevating his team. I'd be shocked if he played QB in the NFL. He's about 5'9" in heels.

why is this game on so early man i am working and this is not cool bromigos not cool at all take that to the bank

Can we PLEASE stop going to a "Rules Analyst" after every penalty, non-penalty, etc. Like....we survived for decades without it just fine, do we really need to hear from one when the refs miss an obvious facemask?

i need a rules analyst so when my lady says hey go do the dishes i can be like well i have done them three times in a row lets see what gene skeletor has to say about it and then ole gene says it should be my ball and she has to do the dishes brohans that would be pretty flippin sweet take that to the bank

Georgia puts 6 in the box, ND passes. Georgia puts 7 in the box, ND runs. OC is not having a great game at all. Like there’s no sensible plan.

I mean, he may or may not be better than the backup, but he definitely was not very good this year.

Kirby Smart definitely thinks Beck is better than Stockton.

It's possible I guess that Smart can't evaluate talent. But if he can, Georgia is now going with a QB that less than "not very good". Not a good spot against a team as strong as Notre Dame.

Wonder if they give the QB the option to change the play? Some of the college coaches don't for reasons I don't get. If it's a bad play call you gotta auduble out of it. That's HS shiz

Feels like more Notre Dame winning than ever. I just don't see a way a kid comes off 3 years of riding the bench to QB his team to a Sugar Bowl win in his first start.

Sounds great in the movies.

This one seemed set the minute Georgia lost their starting QB.

And yes, I know everyone says Beck is terrible. Kirby Smart had 3 years of watching the new guy every day and the answer for every game was the guy everyone thinks sucked was still better.

So unless Kirby Smart is a total idiot, the new guy must be beyond terrible.
beyond terrible doesn’t keep a scholarship and roster spot at Georgia, the kid probably starts at 95% of other college programs

He's worse than a guy who's not very good. But he could start at 95% of other programs?

Stockton is a 3rd yr sophomore. Beck is a 5th yr senior. The default would be to experience. I don't think Stockton is the QB next year though. It will likely be Puglisi who is a Fr and considered fairly talented.

Stockton would not start at 95% of other programs. No chance.

notre dame is surprising me here much like when an angel appeared before zecheriah who was rightous and upright before god and told him that he and the lovely elizabeth would have a child which is appropriate because that is a bible surprise and notre dame is a catholic school so take that to the bank biblemigos

95% seems pretty high. Have you seen the C-USA, and the bottom half of every G5 conference? (Edit - I misread this, I thought you were saying he wouldn't start for 5% of teams. My bad - carry on)

trent green > kurt warner; drew bledsoe > Tom brady

are you day drunk? on medication? Beck is not very good because the ffa posters say that? His stats with total qbr have him ranked 8th, that is not very good? Are you watching the game today because this Gunner kid isn’t having a bad game.

Is Notre Dame allergic to passing the ball downfield? This offense is about as imaginative as a Toyota Corolla.
All season long. WRs are more possession than speed. KK Smith might be the guy to do it later if we do.

But one more reason to run the ball because our passes are often essentially runs.

Not "day drunk" but thanks for asking I guess.

It seems the general consensus is Beck is not very good.

He had a very good 2023. Was nit as good this season but in all fairness I saw so many drops…..he got little help. Georgia is not tue same team offensively as 2023. Not even close.

its like god himself was reading this thread and saw doubting thomas posts about notre dames passing game so he smote you all with a passing touchdown much like he smote uzzah for touching the ark of the covenant while it was being transported to jersusalem so let it be written let it be taketh to the banketh brohans
