2024 Miami Dolphins: Week 1, neither the Jags or cops can stop the Cheetah

Sure seems like a long time ago ehSure seems like a long time ago eh

Not For Long

Hoping Tua & Co get right quick

The league is more entertaining when the Dolphins are holding track meets

Who is their backup. Do Tyreek owners need to be concerned?
You cannot be serious
All Miami WRs are major downgrades and earlier this afternoon folks were carving up 4 different RBs, I doubt anyone wants more than 1 of them right now
And even Achane is not a sure thing

It's pretty bad

2-3 months according to the experts at Columbia

I will wait a couple days but the path out of all this is not going to be pretty and not what most Phins fans are gonna want to hear
Simply put, I would not be trading for a band aid at QB, roll with Thompson and let him throw 25 interceptions, better draft spot next year
Don't outright tank but no reason to improve and there is no reason to keep too many of these players, trade Holland now while you can still get a good draft pick for him
Eat $100M in cap space or more next year if you have to and play 30+ UDFAs if that's what it takes but MOVE ON!

And do it quickly, don't sign THill or Flacco and go 7-10, that solves nothing
It's time to face the music sooner rather than later

I would have Jordan Poyer's pink slip ready to hand to him tomorrow, you gotta do something and that would be a good spot to send a message

-Woody on ESPN said "Lot of players in that locker room are asking questions tonight"
That DID NOT sound good

"If the concussion proves as "extreme" as it appeared Thursday, Tagovailoa could be sidelined a minimum of eight to 12 weeks, according to CBS Sports HQ injury expert Marty Jaramillo, though the quarterback's history of head trauma suggests "retirement has to at least be in play."

:sadbanana:

Season Over
See you all next year
I'm with you MOP. Skyler Thompson stinks, time to just get the best draft pick we can. Unfortunately not sure the QB class of 2025 is going to provide the long term answer. Carson Beck? UGA QB's outside Stafford haven't transitioned well to the NFL, Sanders? I want nothing to do with him. Bad year to be bad.

Sorry Fins fans. That was a tough one last night. I think your franchise is definitely at a crossroad. Even if Tua comes back, there is no way to continue watching him without holding your breath every single hit. The roster is still good enough to win 6+ games with a backup, but where does that really get them going forward?

Is Hill still talking retiring next season? If so, its might be best for their future to move him.

In the history of the Miami Dolphins there have been a couple of high water mark games that are like the worst ever in franchise history
One was Jacksonville 61-7 in the Playoffs and knowing that was Marino's last game and we were going to go in a new direction

This was arguably the most devastating loss in franchise history when you factor in recent franchise QB has his career potentially end
The foundation of the franchise was uprooted last night

Horrible to see this happen again to Tua. Im sure Tannehill doesn't excite the fans but at 1-1 you have to bring him in to see if he can keep the team competitive. If he doesn't get them the Ws, start shedding players as MOP mentioned and look towards next season.

Fully agree with this, I would try to move Hill.

I know people don't want to hear it, myself included, but the Dolphins gm wouldn't be doing his job if he didnt at least text Brady. Right?

Cam Ward.

Watch that kid.

Elite talent skill set.....he is dazzling me so far. So I am watching closely.

And I loved what I saw from Ewers last Saturday. Elite composure, can read and make every throw, good pocket awareness. Another quality guy.

Sorry dude but Tua was not that good. This is like all the Vikings fans fretting over the loss of Kirk Cousins or Seattle fans feel lost without Russel Wilson. This is an opportunity to get a better QB.

Ok, so the votes are in and this idea looks like it didn't work. I wanted it to and even when he threw the two picks (one a doink off the WR and the other when Robbie chosen stopped running) I thought we could come back bc Tua was playing well (ish).

I wanted to see if Tua could use his legs a little more to help the offense out and it worked until the one time it didn't. Now, even when he comes back, his feet will likely be planted firmly in the pocket, and you cannot win in the NFL that way.

So, what is the phins FO to do? Well, if it was me, I'd call Ryan Tannyhill today. He got a bad rap down here but he is tough and can sling the ball (Talk about a guy who can take hits!) Otherwise, I'm not sure what is out there that is better. Trey Lance? Ugh. Brady would be interesting but if hes not in football shape he'd get killed behind that line too. Mac Jones would be interesting (I thought we should have gone after him when he shook loose)

To have a time machine to have the Phins take Herbert over Tua or if you don't want to go back that far, Purdy over Skylar Thompson at the end of the draft 3 years ago

The bottom line, to me, is you have to build your team the way detroit has. Beef up the lines and the other stuff will figure itself out.

Time to put the rookie in at LT and see what we have there.

Mac Jones?
I was thinking more Zach Wilson and I'd love to see it but I think Denver would rather trade Stidham if they move a QB.
He’s even worse than Tannehill and Pickett.
People can disagree, like we are doing right here. At least the PIckett part, he's god awful.

Wilson has never had benefit of being in a competent offense, looked a lot better to me in preseason and there are a lot of similarities, same coaching tree roots if you go deep enough to LaFluer and Hackett so getting up to date on the system would probably be quick, a lot quicker then Pickett for sure.

At this moment…..all I think the Dolphins can do is make the rounds on guys like Jimmy G or Sam Howell or whatever.

What I want is a new start next season with a new QB….if it’s a bridge guy because of draft position so be it.

But the Tua era is most likely over.

And move Tyreek for a haul of draft picks and Ramsey to get the contract off the books for next year.

It’s a mess.

Thanks again Grier.

You are way OFF!
I'm sorry but you have no idea what it's like week in and week out with the Miami Dolphins and it's not meant as a put down

-DLS, Dan LeBatard presented the same thing on their show, said the same exact thing I did, worst loss since Marino at Jacksonville and the fact you think Tua isn't worth a hill of beans only magnifies how awful the last 2 decades plus have been for the Miami Dolphin fan in South Florida

Now LeBatard reaches a lot more people than MoP does and Dan/MoP both grew up n South Florida, I know Dan personally.
Chaminade-Madonna where he went to school, I went to Nativity which fed into Chaminade back in the late 70s/early 80s
Dan is a Univ of Miami alum, so is MoP
We don't think alike on much outside of sports but he knows the history and the pulse of the team

I accept your POV but I resent that you cannot understand why this was the worst loss in franchise history next to Marino at Jax which ended his career, Tua likely saw his end last night
You don't have to be a fan of Tua, the Phins had 4 seasons in a row with a winning record over 2 Head Coaches, that speaks for itself

I'm not mad but I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation
Despite all this money spent, Miami would be best to strip the team bare again or start trading away all of their assets for draft picks
Season is over Week 2, actually Week 1.5

But unfortunately Miami will likely try and get a Vet that shouldn't even be playing any more and try to plug them in, it's gonna be a disaster
I'd rather they just roll with Thompson, I don't care if he loses every game the rest of the way

When I say this MOP, I basically agree with you. I'm just throwing out the "other" scenario; The Joe Flacco Scenario. Not Flacco per se, but another vet QB who can come in here and be the driver of this offensive ferrari. Tannyhill is the most obvious choice bc he is still out there. In my scenario I'd rather Miami get a guy that they just have to pay for with money rather than with any kind of draft capital. If we are going to spend any type of draft capital that isn't later day 3 draft capital I prefer they roll witih Thompson and let the chips fall where they may...

I don’t have the answer, my gut says that they roll with Skylar while Tua is evaluated and decides whether he wants to continue playing (he does). Which is 2-3 weeks IMO. Whether he’s cleared to play again is anyone’s guess. I do know two things though. One, Tannehill would get KILLED behind this pathetic offensive line. And two, I think we need to forget the idea of getting a backup QB from another roster of a team that has postseason hopes. Why would any of these teams trade these valuable backups to a team that had playoff aspirations of their own leaving themselves vulnerable to be put in the same exact spot the Dolphins are now in?

Bills should start thinking about resting Josh Allen for the playoffs soon now that the division is all wrapped up.

There has to be a way that the Dolphins could ensure themselves of a top draft pick. https://www.miamidolphins.com/team/players-roster/tim-boyle/
Ok, we're on the same page here
Yes, they need to just toss in the towel this season as painful as it's going to be and start the rebuild ASAP
1-2 seasons of cap hell and a lot of UDFAs on the field but by 2026 they would be ready to start over again
That's the best case scenario if they are proactive and send some of these folks, even those who received handsome extensions, get them out of here

just a small tidbit on tuas contract
On paper, Tagovailoa's deal ties him to Miami through 2028, but it's structured in a way that he's only practically married to the Dolphins through 2025. Consider that the team can release the quarterback without absorbing a negative impact to the salary cap in 2026; a post-June 1 cut designation in that offseason would result in a dead cap charge of $47.4 million, per Over the Cap, but an instant savings of $9 million in 2026 cap space. The Dolphins can also trade Tagovailoa at any point following the 2024 season and gain cap space, which is to say, while lucrative, the quarterback's deal is actually relatively team-friendly in terms of potential "escape routes" for Miami.

If it was that easy to "get better" Seattle would have done it, the Vikings would have done it, etc. You need to have the top pick on the correct year (Chicago and Caleb Williams vs Carolina and Bryce Young) or a ton of draft capital to move up or get lucky and someone falls on a good QB year. You can't just will it.
