2024 Miami Dolphins (3 Viewers)

Mercury Morris passed away over the weekend, didn't see anyone mention it

R.I.P.
'72 season 190 carries - 1,000 rush yds even and 12 TDs on a 14 game schedule
He spoke at my middle school back in the day. I don't remember a lot about him other than he came across as more authentic than the average drug warrior, and I mean that positively. RIP.

Maybe it’s time to see what Huntley can do.
:scared:
658 yds - 2 TD passes
Over 5 games, 4 of them he started
You that intrigued by this guy?

I understand why you want someone else besides Thompson, I honestly do
I'd say that Miami should just run RPOs with this guy. If McDaniel can't put together a scheme that uses his legs as a threat beside the speed of Waddle, Achane, and Hill then we really need to be asking serious questions about him.
So, questions…

Season Over
See you all next year
I'm with you MOP. Skyler Thompson stinks, time to just get the best draft pick we can. Unfortunately not sure the QB class of 2025 is going to provide the long term answer. Carson Beck? UGA QB's outside Stafford haven't transitioned well to the NFL, Sanders? I want nothing to do with him. Bad year to be bad.
Nothing has changed from when this was posted
Listening to people wanting Miami to make a trade for a QB mid ship, not happening

-Armstead OUT, Paul not ready at Left Tackle, the OL is terrible and seems undersized, always getting pushed around
-Tua has some procedure or "knee surgery" we're learning and it might have been a lot more involved than was reported
Also with Tua, his next concussion is going to be a career ender
Why would they rush him back? It's time to shut him down for the season and perhaps start thinking about trading some pieces and reset

3. Miami's pre-snap motion needs to stop until Tua Tagovailoa is back.

2. Mike McDaniel isn't strong at evaluating needs

1. The lack of discipline is the most glaring problem for the Dolphins

I definitely agree with the pre-snap motion response. He needs to quit trying to force his team to fit his scheme and adjust his scheme to fit his current situation, mainly at QB.

Some coaches are incapable of adjusting their scheme to fit their team and McDaniel may be one of them. He's the complete opposite of Bum Phillips reference to Bear Bryant, "he could take his’n and beat your’n, then take your’n and beat his’n.”

McDaniel's getting too much flack. Does he need to do better - sure but so do the players out there. 5 pre-snap motion penalties. If the players execute then there are no issues. These are professional players who are ****ing up.

MIA has been crushed by injuries. That isn't the coaches fault.

I know everyone loves to crap on the coach, just want to complain but it isn't all on him. When the players are out there and executing there is no issue.

Easy to blame the coach. This is the same as my stance on Tua. McDaniel will get run out of town and we will be searching for a half decent coach for years.

You could put any coach on this team right now and it would still suck. You seen the QB play?

First thing the Fins will need to do once McDaniel is run out is find a coach as good as he is.

Ok I am as disappointed as anyone and in the burn it down, work and injury settlement with Tue, trade Hill, Phillips and whoever else for whatever you can get and start over at QB again camp. And I thought the game plan was awful Monday night given you had all week to know Huntely was starting, that is 100% on the head coach. That said I have some points and questions for @Ministry of Pain @Todem and the others wanting to run McDaniel out of town.

  • Who made the final decision that Thompson was the answer at backup? Was it McDaniel or did that come from Grier as a cost saving move? I said this in the game thread but how you don't back Tua up with as close to a like QB as you can given his history is baffling. Mac Jones was out there as a free agent. The draft book on him was quick release, processes well, accurate, good anticipation. He came through the same college system as Tua. Would seem like a perfect guy to have behind Tua instead of the mobile, slow throwing motion, not overly accurate Thompson whom you need to change the entire offense for. If the decision was McDaniel's then he needs to answer did he think Thompson could run the same offense or what the plan was? If it was a cost move from Grier it was a stupid one.
  • Let's say you guys get your dream and Tua retires. What is the plan going forward? This next draft doesn't look to my untrained eye to have a sure fire miss at QB even if we somehow end up with the top pick. Justin Fields is probably the top slated free agent for next year or Sam Darnold.
  • What would you dream plan be going forward at coach? Belicheck isn't coming here especially give the QB issue. We tried for the Sean Payton and Brady, coach lawsuit made sure that didn't happen and while Ross has issues, I maintain he is far from the only owner to make that type of move. Want an experienced coach? Good chance Mike McCarthy could be available after this season, does that excite you? A different hot coordinator? Bobby Slowik? Who? And you are going to pair them with either a rookie QB from a so-so class of QB's or a retread.

Bye Bye Jaelan Phillips
Season ending knee injury/surgery

Should have traded him while he was healthy and kept AVG. Hopefully it is early enough in the season that he can come back early next year and maybe we can trade him. No way I sign him long term unless it is a super team friendly deal, too much injury history all the way back through college.

With this deal in the works, Ross must be really pissed that the Dolphins are tanking without Tua.
Also provides rationale for locking up the flashy assets at big bucks.

must be tremendous pressure on Tua to keep playing to keep the valuation from eroding.

If Tua opts out, Dolphins future becomes bleak with big money in assets not flashing anymore.

https://www.privateequitywire.co.uk/ares-closing-in-on-dolphins-deal-at-8-1bn-valuation/

Private equity firm Ares Management and billionaire Joe Tsai are in advanced discussion with Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross over the acquisition of stakes in the NFL team and related assets in deals that would value the business at $8.1bn, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The report cites unnamed sources familiar with the matter as revealing that the potential transaction would see Ares Management acquire a 10% stake in a package that includes the Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium, and Formula One’s Miami Grand Prix. Tsai, owner of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets and WNBA’s New York Liberty, plans to purchase an additional 3% stake through his family office, Blue Pool Capital.

If the deal is finalized, it would be the first private equity transaction since the NFL revised its ownership rules in August to permit institutional investors to buy stakes in franchises. The league’s decision to allow private equity firms to own up to 10% of any franchise was aimed at attracting billions in new capital while boosting valuations and providing greater financial flexibility for team owners.

Ok....as far as QB's

Here are my current rankings

1. Cam Ward
2. Jalen Milroe
3. Carson Beck
4. Sanders

As the season wears on I will be watching thos top 3 more and more because IMO they are clearly the top 3. I loved how Carson Beck bounced back in that second half vs Bama. That was aIMO a preview of a future rivalry between Milroe and Beck in the NFL. Beck has a cannon....tall kid...calm and cool. Reminds me of Herbert but not nearly as mobile.

Milroe looks special. Like Lamar Jackson special. He has incredible tools and a real deal arm. I would like to see him get a little bigger and stronger and he will.

Cam Ward looks special too. Slight concerns are too much arrogance and what I mean is taking some things for granted because of his ridiculous physical skills. In the NFL he will get hit hard....like really hard if he is showing up LB's gliding out of bounds without a care in the world. His arm talent is undeniable. My other concern is also strength of the competition he is playing. Miami won't be truly tested this season till they go into the CFP (yes I expect them to make the top 12 this season due to that weak schedule). So that will also tell us some things. But Cam is a gamer.

At this point I am comfortable with the Dolphins moving on and taking any of the top 3 in that group to try and go in a new direction. Tua is simply not the answer...never was as you all know I have said that from day 1 and I was a huge Herbert advocate before the draft. Anyway we can't change the awful....franchise killing draft of 2020.

We took 3 busts.

Tua - has finished one....one season. Has never won a post season game and quite frankly has feasted on weak under .500 teams and when it's time to win....7-15 lifetime vs teams over .500 with an average of 235 yards per game, 1TD and QB rating of 92

Austin Jackson - drafted to be a LT, now our average starting RT.....ok...not a total bust.

Iggabust - Do I even need to say anything else?

I am not a Jaylen Waddle fanboi. I think he is soft, has too many concentration drops......and wanted Devonte Smith over him at that point since we traded down out of the Jamar Chase position. I did like Phillips....and unfortunately he is now again missing a season. I feel for the guy.

I love Holland.

Grier has been brutal in assembling an OL. Last seasons line was probably the best we have seen in years and years......but again this years line is a total dumpster fire. The Armstead contract another albatros free agent move. And we lost Wilkins who was simply the heart and soul of our defense. We also lost Van Kinkel who was a really great player on this defense. A play maker.

We let them walk.

We extend Tua....which was a huge mistake. We absolutely should have let him play on his 5th year option. He has done nothing to deserve that extension before we saw if he could finish a second straight season, win atleast one post season game. But nope......they caved and they did not have to.

And extending McDaniel? What has he done to warrant that? I am still trying to figure that out.

So what do we do to replace McD and Grier?

Let's start with Head Coaches

1. Eric Bieniemy
2. Dan Quinn
3. Ben Johnson
4. Bobby Slowik

In no particular order.

GM Canidates

1. Adam Peters - SF Asst GM this guy is the top dude in my mind. He is ready to take on his own team.
2. John Spytek and Mike Greenberg - Tamapa Bay Assistant GM's

Go get any of those asst GM's I mentioned.

Will Ross do it? Will he tear it all down after we win maybe 3-4 games this season? I don't expect Tua to finish the season....I really don't. This OL can't protect any QB. And Tua is so fragile.....it's inevitable. Whether that is another head injury, ribs, whatever.....he is gonna get killed.

I mean Tua's contract is already gonna kill us for a few years.....we do have an out in year 3 of the extension or is it year 4.......I don't care....go draft another QB if we have a top 3 pick in 2025.....we have to. And the QB we take can sit behind Tua for a year or two unless of course Tua just retires in 2025 or 2026. I don't expect Tua to play this contract out....nope.

Trade Tyreek before the deadline this year......you gotta get picks.....hoard picks. As many as we can for the new regime. Funny...will Grier do that and in the back of his mind think he may be canned?

It's a dumpster fire here in South Florida again. But if I am Stephen Ross and I am signing the check....I give the marching orders soon. I know he will wait to see Tua come back and that will be the undoing. But if not this season........once the season is over...Black Monday happens.

You fire McD and Grier.......screw the extension you gave McD and pay him out with whatever terms were in case of termination.......tax loss. Grier...gone. Get your new regime in and let them get to work in February and hit the ground running.

Deal veterans like Hill ( our biggest asset) hoard draft picks and start over.

We need to. This window is closed.

The diva in Hill is starting to rear its ugly head, with his jawing on the sideline. Some will call it passion mixed with frustration. You almost never see lineman, TEs, linebackers, or DBs do that. Why is that? Punters and kickers don’t count.

The ability to complain is in direct proportion with the ability to be replaced.

Hill has not been a problem on the football side. Practices hard, been healthy, played last year when banged up. He had a couple steps on 2 deep passes in the TEN game, Tua likely would've completed 1 of them, maybe 2. Most Dolphin fans would rank Grier, McDaniel, and some soft players as bigger problems. Hill is not soft and only wants better quarterback play.

Open message to Mr. Ross...go hire Robert Saleh as a special consultant the rest of this year and defensive coordinator next year. Guy is going to have a bone to pick with the Jets and want to make a statement the next few years, knows the AFC East and knows how to run a defense.
