Agree with most of what tlef316 and Dr. Octopus said. The DL is a big concern. Reddick would obviously help the pass rush, but teams are going to try and run the ball down their throat. That's going to be an issue in division games especially I think. Maybe this prompts them to reach out to Reddick and get him in house finally but I'm not going to hold my breath.
With no pressure and a ton of weapons/chess pieces, SF exploited the safeties in coverage all night long. The corners didn't play great, but it sure felt like every time SF had a big pass play A.Davis was the one getting torched. Not every team is going to have enough skill guys to exploit matchups like that, but if opposing QBs have that much time they'll find the weak link too.
The predictable, boring offensive play calling was one of my most disappointing parts of the night along with Breece looking really pedestrian out there. Mason looked like Earl Campbell out there and Hall seemed to go down with first contact on every play. I get he had zero room to run, but he didn't look like one of the best RBs in the league, especially when you factor in the fumble and easy drop. As mentioned, run, run, pass, punt.
If that's going to be the gameplan all year this offense isn't going to do much against anyone. You've got Aaron Rodgers, be a little bit more creative FFS. We really need Williams healthy or Corely to get up to speed because it can't all be Wilson with no other threat in the passing game.
All that said they were playing one of the handful of best teams in the league and possibly the one with the best overall roster outside of QB and a really good coaching staff. I wasn't expecting a win, but I was hoping for a better showing. The good things to take away were that Rodgers looks fine to me and the OL kept a pretty good pass rush at bay and kept him upright most of the night. I think the OL will get better at run blocking as the season goes on and the schedule gets easier, which it should in theory starting this week. Win a couple of games in a row and this will sting a little less. Lose to teams like Ten, NE or Den and things will get dicey quickly.
