2024 NFL Coaches on the Hot Seat & Front Office Changes (1 Viewer)

Article below from The Athletic were a poll of 4 execs and 3 coaches gave some thoughts and ranked the HC hires with votes going 1-3.

If you can't access it I'll summarize. Harbaugh as expected got top ranking, Morris next. Macdonald was only other coach then those two getting a vote as best hire, got 3 of them, and finished third. I would personally also consider those the 3 best hires of the cycle.

Canales and Pierce were the only two how failed to get a vote. Third to last was Mayo or got one second place vote as his only vote.

NFL new coaching poll
Titans place in common sentiment is that they could have a special staff full of young future coaches.
I like being a fan in this position rather than wondering if Dan Quinn and Ken Norton Jr have learned and adapted.
My favorite part of the new staff is all the times they've said "he did well against us so..." that's the roster house cleaning mindset I want too.
Dad Callahan talking with Schwartz before getting the job gave him a background.
Levis and Big Jeff being involved in off-season process...
They're checking every box for me.
They could stink eventually but I am sooo refreshingly good right now

Charles London to Seahawks as QB coach
He is viewed as a developer of young QBs so if ya needed to reinforce the idea they'll draft a QB while keeping Geno...there ya go

Shocking insight into the state of the Jaguars locker room:

“I've talked to a few guys in that locker room over the last two weeks.

They've told me that the locker room is GONE regarding [Doug Pederson]

Absolutely rudderless” - @Schultz_Report

Dennis Allen fired.

The only surprise to most people was that he lasted this long and/or got a second chance at all.

Two teams, 6 seasons, two cut short by getting fired, 9-8 was his best record, no playoff appearances and only one of those 6 seasons did his team improve their win total from the previous season.

43 games is a large enough sample size to know that Matt Eberflus is a bad head coach.

Honestly, the 34 games we saw from him before this season was enough to prove that, too. There's no upside for the #Bears to keep him at this point.

Titans ST coach still not fired as every media outlet predicted a few weeks ago.

After a punt blocked three weeks in a row and poor ST coverage....now they are allowing 38 yards per kickoff return on the season.

Thirty eight!

There will come a point that HC Callahan gets flack for not managing his staff well- buddies or not.

More context-
The Titans have one of the best punters in the league and their K just finished a 20 in a row streak. It's not like he's got little to work with

How about owners who are on the hot seat?
How about fans of some teams insist on an ownership change?
I'll start
Woody Johnson
Jerry Jones
And whoever owns The Browns

Unless an owner has off-the-field non-football issues, they can't be on the hot seat.

#Jaguars GM Trent Baalke, on a scorching hot seat, has a 30-64 record during his tenure in Jacksonville. While much of the attention has been on Doug Pederson, the buzz is growing louder about whether Baalke can survive the season, especially after Sunday’s embarrassment.

It’s getting loud in Jacksonville tonight.

Except they won't fire themselves, please add Stephen Ross to your short list, he is the only active owner to get caught cheating and subsequently suspended

I'm surprised GM/HC don't prioritize backup QB more just out of self preservation alone. If you go into a season 1 hit away from playing Mac Jones, your family is 1 hit away from moving.

To be fair, I think a lot of teams are in this situation. There aren't that many backup QBs that can come in and keep the offense going at an acceptable level. It's hard enough to find a good starting QB in this league, let alone a good backup.

Sources: While ownership has suggested he’ll return, there is a growing sense that #Giants HC Brian Daboll is coaching for his job over the final seven games.

That’s part of why he chose Tommy DeVito over Drew Lock as the starting QB.

More info: The relationship between Daniel Jones and the Giants has been described as “a bit awkward,” multiple sources say, especially with the organization publicly exploring other QB options, including during Hard Knocks this past offseason.

“It was like flirting with someone new while your date is still at the table,” one source said.

I think Daboll is a good coach but the roster construction has been terrible. He’ll land somewhere & down the road he’ll get another shot.

McCarthy & Pederson have rings so that’s a lifetime membership in the retread club. Somebody will think that’s the right guy for us.

Eberflus and Pierce will be someone’s DC again but they should never be HC. Under any circumstance.

The Ohio guys should not be fired but who knows what will happen.

Yeah just saw that. Had to be done.

Teams almost always go the opposite direction of the last guy. In terms of which unit they emphasize, leadership style, and temperament. Guess the next one will be a hands on offensive guy who is detail oriented.

But man alive, you gotta start thinking about whether Poles is the right GM. I don’t understand his vision for what he wants this team to be. That OL needs an anchor.

They have talent. Team should be 8-4. What a waste of a year.

Poles is a former lineman .. how can he not make that a priority from day 1?
