2024 Philadelphia Eagles - AJ’s book club read for next week: “Serenity Now” by Frank Costanza. (60 Viewers)

I hope Jerry Jones lives to a 150. With Dan Snyder gone, we need him in the NFCE.

“I’m saying, the world knows where the sun is. You get to know that almost a year in advance. Someone asked me about the sun. What about the sun? Where’s the moon?”

:lmao:

Wtf
Funny thing is, they apparently didn't know where it would be when the stadium was being built. But hey, they have a big TV in it.

I really want to start believing in this team. Offense still has occasional play calling issues and need to see the defense go up against an NFL caliber offense. I'm still in the Hawkeye meme range on this team.

I do love me some Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, though.

Cooper DeJean allowed 3 completions for 4 yards in Sunday's win over the Cowboys.

The Eagles defense is No. 1 in the NFL in PPG allowed (13.0) and YPG allowed (200.8) since Week 6 (5 games).

Jalen Hurts is the first QB in #NFL history with 4 seasons of 10+ rush TD -- breaking a tie with Cam Newton.

Hurts is also the first QB in NFL history with 4 straight seasons of 10+ rush TD.

Hurts is the only QB in league history to do this in consecutive seasons.

Let's get a win today

Cincinnati's offense is 6th in points and 12th in yards. They are an NFL caliber offense. Eagles D held them to 222 yards passing and 58 yards rushing.

True. That first drive gave me Gannon flashbacks, but they settled down after.

This team is definitely better than the team that started 10-1 last year, and in my opinion, the pass coverage in defense is better than 2022 while the pass rush is not as good. Getting a feel on this team really starting to hit their stride.

This week is a must win for Philly if they want to win the NFC East.

WAS schedule the rest of the way: @PHI, DAL, TEN, BYE, @NO, PHI, ATL, @DAL

We got a couple tough games left.
Yea wash should get 5 wins out of that remainder. We have to win both games against them.
We have some pretty nice games as well, One more against Dallas, NYG and Carolina.
Yes but we also have Balt and Pitt.
I like it! I want to be battle tested heading into the playoffs. We held Chase to under 50 yards. He just went for 260+ on Baltimore and I think we can certainly hold our own vs Pittsburgh.

Either way, the drumbeat for "Easiest Schedule Everrrrr" is about to pick up again haha.

The Eagles defense has now held 2 teams to under 50 net yards passing this year. Albeit, its the Giants and Cowboys and their awful QB's, but still an insane stat in today's game.
Putting this in further context:
The Cowboys are the second team in NFL history to complete at least 17 passes and finish with fewer than 50 net passing yards.
The other was the Giants three weeks ago, also against the Eagles.

Getting good LB play makes huge difference.

Also, DeJean has been a big catalyst to the defenses turnaround.

On that note.

Right now DeJean is the highest graded DB in all of footbal, per PFF. They have weird grading metric with CB's, but he pops on film. He and Q could not be bigger hits on the 1st 2 picks of a draft in maybe 25+ years in Eagles history, with the instant impact they are having.

As far as the LBs - Today Vic said Howie presented Baun to him as a edge rush backup/Special Teams Demon and he said "No that's and inside linebacker"

Gotta love the super early ROI on having Vic as the DC + these pieces. I am AMPED.

I hope Howie is on the phone this week looking to sign Zach Baun to a new contract. I didn't realize he is on a 1-year contract, they should lock him up for a few years. Guy is really holding up well considering the lack of buzz he got coming in
I am sure the price has gone up by now, but I would love to see them lock Zach in for a few more years. It would be great for him, and great for the team

Just a side note. During halftime of Sunday's game the NFL honored WWII veterans that landed on the beaches of Normandy 80 years ago. This group of veterans participated in the 80th Anniversary celebration in Normandy back in May/June. My 100-year-young uncle was one of those honored at halftime.

Sometime after the game the group of veterans and their chaperones went out to dinner. An Eagles fan at the restaurant noticed the group and picked up the tab. So thank you to whoever that Eagles fan may be.

Love what he has done so far. I remember reading about him when we signed him and though his old coaches had positive things to say about him, he was on the Saints for years and they never found a way to use him. I had low expectations of him because of it. It is just as much about how Fangio is positioning him as it is about his skillset, so I hope he recognizes this and doesn't demand too much to stay on this team for a few years. It's a good match and based on history it's not like Baun is guaranteed to have a good career if he left us.

Fun watch. First opening drive TD in 31 games.

Saquon Barkley 2023
14 games
247 carries
962 yards
6 TDs
41 receptions
280 yards
4 TDs
1242 yards from scrimmage

Saquon Barkley 2024
9 games
171 carries
991 yards
6 TDs
21 receptions
158 yards
2 TDs
1149 yards from scrimmage

This stat comparison just says it all.

Just run the football. All game, every game. It is why he was acquired. Only pass the football when necessary.

Mailata is playing tomorrow.

Washington has been *not good* at stopping the run.
The Eagles, of late, have been the best running team in football.

Seems obvious, but I think with the real change happening, with evidence to back it up, we actually do run and run pretty effectively on Washington. Only turnovers/shooting ourselves in the foot can stop us.

the good play calling better continue. this game is huge. we have a real shot at the one seed. detroits schedule is way tougher than ours. i think they are losing 2-3 games coming up

They actually looked good against Harris last week.

It's right up there with the Sheldon Brown / Lito Sheppard draft - maybe better (need more then half a season to definitely say better but they look it)

I don’t see a blow out or a statement win, at all.

I think the Birds win, but it’ll be a dogfight.

WAS D is improving, much the same as Philly D is. Quinn is a really solid coach, and he has them finding their identity the last couple weeks.

They’ve transitioned from zone heavy to more man coverage and a lot more blitzing, especially if they can get you in obvious passing downs.

Our WRs are better than their DBs, especially with Lattimore not playing, yet. But, if they can rattle Jalen into TOs, that could be a key.

Ball protection and running the ball. That’s what the Birds’ O needs to do. Hopefully the playcalling reflects that.

Heard a stat from Fran Duffy: up until the Tampa game, Q played 2% of snaps in man coverage. Since the bye, 34 (or 36)%! He’ll be matched up on Scary Terry a lot. Good tackling, good gap contain on Robinson and Daniels, and Q locking down McLaurin.

Shout out and flowers to Vic. He has done an amazing job of transforming this D. I still can’t believe the core of the unit that played the first 4 games, is the same as the D that is top 5 in almost every category now. Pre-season, we were all hoping for around 15ish for a legit playoff run.

I’m calling an Eagles win: 27-20. Go Birds! 🦅

Eagles have scored 34 points in the two games they've had Barkley, Brown, Smith and Goedert play together. I don't see any way WAS holds the Eagles under 30.

add in better pass protection with Mailatta in there. Fred Johnson held up pretty well, but he certainly was starting to get picked on by the opponents. I also am thinking the Brotherly Shove wil have a little more juice now.

I figured he’d be good he Went to Wisconsin. They don’t produce LBs like other schools but when they do produce them, they end up being pretty dam good.

You’re a sicko!

This TNF game could be like the Panthers TNF game in 2017, as far as telling us if this team has the juice.

Coming off a blowout win against a clear playoff team on a short week and handling business against Carolina made a lot of folks sit up and pay attention that season.
Yeah we could see if our success lately is just from playing some horrific teams or the real deal

I still believe this team is a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
I don't think this defense can be fixed and without that they aren't going far. There's alleged talent on the d-line, but it's not translating to the game. They're getting absolutely annihilated in the run game and no one is able to create pressure. Huff was supposed to be the one dimensional pass rusher, but he's been awful. Getting manhandled by tight ends and showing zero effort/hustle. Starting to worry he got his mega deal and gave up. There is no magic fix Howie can make. The d-line needs to step up and play.
I've never been happier to be so ridiculously wrong.

Very happy with this one. NOt as close as the score suggests. And on a TNF game coming off a road trip, ANY win was a good thing. Feel better about this squad overall then I did about our last Super Bowl run. This defense has been very very impressive since the last 6 weeks. Find just a little more consistency on offense and this team can hang with anybody
