2024 Philadelphia Eagles - First one was for the fans. This one was for the team. Next one is for the legacy. (2 Viewers)

No reason to believe this team can’t repeat.

Youngest and also best defense goes a long way.

Departures?

K.

Let’s check the 21-24 drafts.

I guess murdering the guys that wanted to be 3 peat champs for the first time against the current GOAT goes a long way against those silly “easy schedule arguments”

One of the greatest teams of all time is in the making…

These Eagles are just getting started.
A lot can change in 1 year. I’d like to see who the OC ends up being. We were also very lucky on the injury front all year.

I’m not saying it can’t but there’s definate factors that can change things

Also someone on Reddit posted early power rankings and we’re behind KC, Det and a few others. I basically said this is more clickbait but also what I just commented above are probably factors they put into this. All these other teams have their coaches already.

Who are we retaining and letting go and does BG retire? We got 16m in cap space right now so how does Howie grab us more?

There’s definately questions that need answering but many of these are good things to have. At least we aren’t Dal, NYJ or NYG asking certain questions

Departures?
Please find a way to keep Williams and Baun and all be happy. Back fill the rest.
They have to keep Baun. He's the key to Fangio's defense working the way it does.

Hopefully Howie can work some of his magic and find a way to keep Williams as well.

Becton is gone but we already have his replacement in-house.

Official prediction: Eagles, 31-23

Our previous SB outcomes:
  • No-show blowout loss (in this very stadium)
  • Close, but not really, loss
  • Back and forth shootout win
  • Back and forth shootout loss
So I figure we're due for either a blowout win or a close, but not really, win. I think it's the latter, where we eventually have control of the game even though KC keeps it within one score (finally on the losing side) and we get to uneventfully run out the clock in victory formation.

ETA: I really had to ignore the beaten and battered lifelong Philly sports fan sitting on my other shoulder that tried to get me to go with a repeat no-show blowout in the Superdome that will cause much pain and misery for the following weeks and months.

First, in my block pool I have Eagles 1, Chief 3 so I would love for this to be the final score.

When I'm looking at the two teams things I like for the Eagles:
  • The Eagles are better in the trenches: The Chiefs have a good defensive line and Chris Jones is a beast, but the Eagles offensive line is the best in the league and is more than capable of handling Jones. The other guys on the line are undersized (compared to the Eagles guys) and big guys beat up little guys.
  • The Eagles offense can't be game planned for: What I mean is the offensive line is so big and strong, that they can run the ball against anyone. When teams try and stack the box, you get a Saquon Barkley 60 yard run. The way to stop the Eagles is to be more physical. Either you can or you can't, but the coaches can't call a play to do it, it has to be within the players. The Steelers did the best job of being physical, but that only lasted maybe a quarter and a half. I don't follow KC enough, but I don't think they'll be able to out physical Philly.
  • Strength v. Strength: KC likes to play more man than zone. Hurts is great against man defenses because AJ Brown is a man coverage dominator. Either you'll see AJ Brown have an MVP type day if KC goes/stays in man, or you'll see Hurts have like 16 carries for 120 because the Chiefs load the box, go man and Hurts breaks contain and gets 30 yards a pop with KC secondary guys just running with their backs to the QB. If they go zone, Goedert will have a great game (which he might regardless of what defense KC plays since they're not good defending TEs).
  • Communication is the key: Watching how the Chiefs took advantage of the Eagles secondary in 2022, it was due to lack of communication. They would run their receiver in motion in and then when the ball was snapped he would go out and be wide open. Under Fangio, those issues appear to be solved. These guys don't miss assignments like that anymore.
  • Turf: This is a turf field so it's a fast track. I think that favors the Eagles more, especially a guy like Barkley when he gets into open space.
  • Home field advantage?: Stub Hub is reporting a 70% of their secondary ticket sales are from Pennsylvania, I'd expect a Philly heavy crowdI was in that dome (for Nick Foles last playoff game) it can get so loud you can't hear the person next you talk. If this a pro-Eagles crowd, I'd expect a few more pre-snap penalties for KC.
Things I like for KC:
  • Patrick Mahomes/Reid: These guys are a winners. Reid is capable of finding weakness in the Eagles D and exploiting it. Mahomes is capable of pulling off a win if the Chiefs defense can somehow slow the Eagles. If it's close, he'll find a way.
That's it, I don't see any other advantages for KC. They don't have a great run game so they'll be one dimensional. Their passing game is a bunch of dink and dunk. They don't have an efficient RZ offense (Philly D is good in RZ). I can see a bunch of drives like the first WAS drive in the NFCCG where they go 10-12 plays, use up 6-7 minutes and get 3 points. Defensively, they are middle of the pack in points per drive so the Eagles should be able to score points and sustain drives.

My score prediction for the game is 31-17 Eagles.

Post-mortem on my pre-game predictions. I think the only thing I got wrong was the Chiefs ability to stop the run. They totally sold out to stop Saquon Barkley and did a great job.

So at one point late in the game my daughter was asking me why I wasn't yelling or excited more. And I was for sure early on. But by the end of the game I probably looked like Andy Dufresne (from the movie not the FBG haha) sitting on the roof in the shade with that grin watching the boys drink their beer.

Elite defensive play is just so satisfying to watch. It's why people loved Buddy's teams, and then Bud Carson made them even better. Jim Johnson’s schemes. Wow what a curbstomping, that was like a throwback game to the 80s or 90s except it was always a different NFC East team doing it. The Eagles are never quite THAT team.

Get ready to be excited. This Eagles defense is a year ahead of schedule. Fangio said he didn't feel confident calling blitzes because there was still communicational things that they still had to learn. Need to re-sign Baun, but I think Howie knows and will do what it takes.

Zero. Zip. Nada. We have been the better team like every single week. For 2 weeks I questioned why I felt so calm and knew we’d win. I almost hated that I felt that way but just knew we’d smoke them.
This! It's wild that a lot of us were so calmly confident. I was far more nervous for each of our playoff games before the SB.

I've been calm about this team since they beat the Ravens. The way they physically dominated them, I knew this team was special and no one was going to beat them.

NFC East Super Bowl Count now

Cowboys - 5
Giants - 4
Skins - 3
Eagles - 2

We got work still to be done.
Sure but the difference is we get to enjoy ours while the other fans get to have their parents/grandparents tell them about them.
Plus I have now watched as many Super Bowl wins as my Cowboys fans family members, bc, ya know, they definitely weren't fans yet for that first one in '92.

And I guess Moore is gone, but I am not sure I can’t think of a more inviting OC position ever. You get to come in, call your own plays, and you are stacked with talent. I have to think people are banging down the door to try and get that job.

Jalen is the best eagles qb of all time. Hes 26 years old

On his best day Hurts isn’t as good as McNabb. McNabb had his flaws but better passer and more athletic and won games with a trash group of WRs. Put McNabb on this team and even 22 SB year I think we are dominating teams.

Hurts overall consistency or lack there of as a passer holds this offense back from being elite.

Anyone have any suggestions for fun longshot bets / parlays for the game today? One that I found and put a couple bucks on was Saquon first carry for a TD boosted to +6650. May throw a few bucks on some longshot anytime or first TD scorers. Haven’t found a bet for a missed XP yet. :bag:
I felt like Slim Reaper 70+ rec yards was a good one to combo with Eagles ML and the over. He’s never caught less than 90 yards against KC.

Jalen Carter MVP at +7000

I had a decent chunk of winnings from last week so I made a ton of $5-10 parlays. Drunkenly made this one to use up my last $65 in winnings a few nights ago.

Eagles ML- Hit
Over 48.5 - Hit
Saquon 40 rec yards - Hit
Jalen 250 passing yards - missed by 29 yards
Davonta 70 rec yards - missed by 1 yard
AJ, Hurts, Barkley & Worthy anytime TD Hit 3 of 4. Saquon inexplicably didn't score a TD.

Pays $100k. Pray for mojo.
I came damn close to hitting this and winning $100k. If the Chiefs played a little but better and kept it close I probably would have won.

The 145 points scored by the Eagles during the postseason is an NFL record.

They also became the first team with a +70 point differential in the postseason since the 2000 Ravens.
Greatest Team in NFL History - all kinds of angles for me to argue this....

24 points for the Eagles at half
23 yards for the Chiefs at half.

Mahomes' worst game of his career by far.

etc etc
