2024 Philadelphia Eagles - No way Sirianni makes it through the bye, right? (7 Viewers)

“Nick Sirianni says he called the 4th-and-1 fake Brotherly Shove at the end of the first half, not Kellen Moore. “

I’m sure our Moore stalkers will love to see that one
This sounds like Nick scapegoating again throwing Cordinators under the bus
He’s literally doing the opposite here. He’s taking ownership of a bad play call and exonerating Moore from making it.
Damn, didn't see your post haha

This frickin team. Don't know what to make of them. Defense made a 180, especially the d-line. Didn't think they had it in them and glad I was wrong, hope they can keep it up. Though Huff was still MIA. Did he even play this week?

Sirianni's decision making was baffling. I love aggressive decisions, but they need to be smart with situational awareness. End of the first half down 3-0 with no time left, you kick. Dumb. Start of second half, since you didn't kick earlier and haven't been able to score, again kick. If it was tied, I'm all for going for it. Then when you're only up 1 you decide to try and kick a 60 yard FG? Punt and pin, let them try and march against your defense that is playing so well, not give a short field when they only need a FG to take the lead.

RPOs should be permanently deleted from the playbook. Wasted play every time. Same with any designed run where Hurts runs laterally along the LOS. Get them the F out.

Hurts is equally frustrating. Makes so many good plays, then gets dumb or careless. First pick, Smith needs to run a better route, but probably a throw that shouldn't have been made anyway. No excuse on that fumble.

Speaking of Smith, the NFL can STFU about player safety. How was that play not blown dead earlier? They're the reason he got killed. Pathetic.

I hate wins that make me cranky. If you told me yesterday they'd only give up 12 points I'd be thrilled with the anticipated blowout win. Can just hope guys are healthy and they keep growing. Also, gotta stop ignoring the preseason and treating the first 4 weeks as tune-up games.
My issue is with Hurts. I think the coaching choices are 50/50 and we are so pissed because they are in-fact so subjective.

Hurts though, his choices are just ridiculously poor. We didn't win the game because of Hurts, we won in-spite of him. Now, im not saying Hurts didnt make a couple plays. However his turnovers are simply too much.

Hurts has 26 giveaways in his last 19 games 🤦‍♂️

Fing terrible
That first pick was 100% on Smith though.

Definitely needs to take better care of the ball, but overall he had a pretty decent game.
I dont agree. I think it was a poor decision and poor pass.

Yeah when you see the replay and all-22 youll see the play wasn’t really there and he has the flat to his left open I believe.

Britain Covey has a broken bone in his shoulder and will be out for a while now.
So many big injuries so early man.
Yeah yesterday was a rough time, but hopefully it looks like, other than Covey, none of them are hopefully long term issues. Not sure what is up with Becton's hand either, but I was at least encouraged by Steen and Fred Johnson's play yesterday.

Jalen Carter had a 93.5 PFF grade for the game, the highest graded game of any DT this year.

After saying he was "trash" in the first two weeks, what did Jalen Carter think of his impressive performance vs. the Saints?

"Trash," he said.

Carter had 4 tackles, 2 TFLs, 1 QB hit and 2 PD

"I still don’t like how I played. But I know that we played good as a team today."

Badly breaking down some of Carter’s work

Quinyon Mitchell was targeted 5 times as primary defender by the #Saints , most of any #Eagles player in secondary.

Derek Carr was 3-of-5 for 29 yards (64.6 rating)
targeting Mitchell.

Darius Slay was targeted just 2 times. Carr went 1-of-2 for 9 yards (56.3 rating).

Tyler Steen filled in for Mekhi Becton (finger) at RG

35 pass-blocking snaps
0 pressures allowed
0 QB hits allowed
0 sacks allowed

Cam Jurgens in 45 pass-blocking snaps

0 pressures allowed
0 QB hits allowed
0 sacks allowed

Saquon Barkley leads the #NFL in rushing yards through the Sunday afternoon games (351).

Barkley is 2nd in NFL in yards per carry (5.6) amongst players with 40+ carries.

Tied for 1st in NFL in rush TD (4) and scrimmage TD (5).

His mistakes are something you expect from a rookie or say an inexperienced rookie who doesn’t having much playing experience in college. Not a guy who’s been in the league for 5 or so yrs already

After watching the Falcons/Chiefs game last night Atlanta is much improved since last year. That defense is for real.

Sirianni - I like his aggressive style but why go for it with 14 seconds remaining when even if we do convert chances are we are kicking a field goal anyways.

I think the biggest issue with this team outside of injuries is that we haven't found our true identity. I truly believe that Hurts would be a much better QB if we became a run first offense. Not only was Barkley the best player on the Giants roster but he is the best player on the Eagles roster. I'm thinking of the Elway / Davis seasons when the Broncos went back to back. Elway was still in charge but he let his guys win the game. Hurts doesn't have to be like Lamar Jackson. I wish he would let his guys go to work.

Agree. Just think. We didnt even use barkley in the first half yesterday.

The scuttlebutt for years has been that Lurie insists on a pass-first offense and only hires coaches who will agree to it.

If that were the case, they would have never signed Barkley.

I don't know how it's possible, but I feel both great and bad about this game. I still believe Hurts has tremendous talent, but the turnovers are out of control. As I said in the game thread, I put the pick more on SMith, but the fumble can't happen. The offense was down 2 lineman and an all pro WR and still moved the ball fairly well. The defense was fantastic.

BUT Sirrianni? WTF with these decisions. I like being aggressive on fourth down, but not with 16 seconds on the clock in FG range. Makes no sense. Another FG for Saints set up by going for it at midfield and failing too. Just leaves an uneasy feeling.
i kind of put that fumble on just a great play by the defender. Jalen could have played it better, but that DL was as outstretched as he could be and tipped the ball out. I think Hurts was just about to throw it and didn't have a tight grip on it as he went to pull it up.

all pro level work in this game. Dude is a stud

Just thinking out loud…

Has a HC had more to work with draft capital wise for QB’s than Doug Pederson? I can’t think of another HC who ruined 2 highly picked prospects who’s careers almost seem mirror each other form a regression standpoint

I like him but remember the saints starting center got hurt. They were killing the backup badly.

A lot of the clips are of him working on the RG IIRC. Not sure who he is or if he’s new

They slid their starting G to C and brought in a bench guy to play G.

Covey placed on IR (no surprise) and Jack Stoll elevated from the PS. Good! Calcaterra wasn’t even a speed bump blocking.

Need more blocking with lane hurting
If now is not the time to call on the conservative/run heavy and throw it when you really only need to (to Goedert) I'm not sure we will ever get it. I get it Jeff, its not your style and all. I really do. We just only need to do it this one game, get the W, get the bye week and we can go back to slinging the rock once AJ and Devonta are back to full strength. I mean, you do want to see a big return on your investment in Saquon, right? Come on Jeff! Lets run the rock like crazy this week. I need Saquon to get 30+ touches...

Its the only way we can win. No way the defense plays that well 2 weeks in a row. And tampa kinda owns us.

Good post. I like Shane Haff’s breakdowns.

Watching “Inside the Birds: Q&A” with Avant and Mikell, Q broke down that play and talked about Devonta making the wrong break and giving HoneyBadger the inside leverage. The one criticism of Jalen was that he should’ve thrown it lower- knees and under- to protect the ball.

Jalen Hurts has a 71.4% completion rate against the blitz this year (t-8th in #NFL ).

Hurts' completion rate in previous years against the blitz

2020 -- 51.1%
2021 -- 54.4%
2022 -- 58.1%
2023 -- 60.5%
2024 -- 71.4%
Coaching this year (minus game calls and consistency with analytics) has been really good, so far. Nobody coached a better game than Fangio did on Sunday.

And for all the people hating on Kellen Moore, he has the Offense adapting to all the injuries and making strides every week.

Can’t wait to see how this team looks late October/November when everything clicks

I'm with ya. I think, and me included, most people are just sick and wondering "What does Nick do" but then you hear from the players from a guy like Dallas Goedert and its clear to me at least, the team really really loves him. I guess he is a master of motivational speaking maybe, and I'm very curious to see how this whole coaching thing plays out, especially if the team is successful. Vic ain't going anywhere, its the offensive side of things that seems to have the most possible drama. Nick inserting himself into play calls/key decision making seems like he is trying to overcompensate.

Yeah, 100%. I’m trying to rein in my distaste for Nick. Initially, I loved him, even with the goofy trash talk and cringeworthy sideline antics. He seems like a genuine dude and harmless enough, even if he’s kind of a clown. But, it does seem like he’s trying to put his thumbprints on the game with the “gutsy” calls and just doesn’t seem to be consistent.

He did take us to the SB, and has a great win percentage. As long as they’re winning, I think he’s safe. But Lurie and Howie have to be whispering and watching really closely.

seems like we cant make it through one game without Nick doing something beyond stupid. hes holding us back. and it seems to be getting worse. hope im wrong

I feel the same way about Hurts, just more so. Honestly reminds me how I felt about McNabb

One thing I love about having Vic as DC is he does *NOT* care about contracts. I would love for BG to play max snaps for the rest of this year/his career. Huff is a work in progress. He's not a complete dud as he was game 1, but man. I need way more.

Bryce Huff has more missed tackles than he does tackles.
Yeah I mean. If we just only use him as he's been used his whole career, I think he might not turn out to be a total bust. But man, watching him in run defense is tough. He always looks like a 1995 era madden defensive/offensive lineman that "lost" - just squished and flattened to the turf. Its rough to watch. I'd love to see what Hunt has, but from what I'm hearing is he "doesn't have the body" built up right to be a DE right now so maybe that is a large part of him being a project. Which leads me back to my favorite current talking point in that we need to really see how much/what the max we can give BG is for the rest of the year. Last season, time to literally leave nothing left in the tank when you can see the finish line.

Thank God BG still has a lot left in the tank! Need Josh Sweat to step up, too.

Huff hasn’t even looked good pass rushing. We need to get out from under that contract next season.

In regards to Moore, everyone I follow who breaks down the tape has mostly great things to say about his play calling and designs.

The biggest issue seems to be us constantly running RPO’s that haven’t worked. Idk if he ran them in LA or Dallas to know if this is a him thing or a Sirianni thing though. Whoever it is, that play hasn’t worked in what feels like years.

At least I haven't seen a WR screen all year so far.
