It's his last big contract. After this he'll be playing on one year deals.
As Branch Rickey would say, "trade a player a year too early rather than a year too late."
Terrell Lewis: This was the name that popped out at me. Lewis was a Rams 2020 third-round pick who was a role player from 2020-2022, before the Rams cut him near the end of the 2022 season. The Bears scooped him up, but he did not make their 53-man roster in 2023. He spent about a month on the Saints' practice squad, but he was released in October, and had been unemployed since. Lewis has great size at 6'5, 262, with 34" arms, and he was a talented player in college at Alabama. Obviously something isn't right if three teams cut him in quick succession, but he's an interesting name who is worth a look.
Nice job here.Shout out and many thanks to @The Noid for sending me a package of swag for the deaft contest. Aorry for the delay in posting, I rarely check my mailbox and did today for the 1st time since April and completely forgot about this package.
You’re a good man, Gunga Din!
Only the 2nd team play-by-play guy to ever make it too! A pro's pro, such a class act. Amazing voice of course too! Well deserved.Merrill Reese's entry into the Hall of Fame hasn't been posted in the thread....how'd we miss this one??
Merrill Reese, the voice of the Philadelphia Eagles, is entering the Pro Football Hall of Fame Think of a great moment in Eagles history. Whose voice do you hear?
archive.md will get you past ANY paywall so you can read every article online you want to.err... had to look up what the thread title means... (kudos as usual @The Noid)
link is behind a paywall, but you can see a photo of the chase and the headline... which is all you really need.
and so i don't get deleted for not football related topic, a good read here that is not related to the above.
There’s a former Eagles player on every NFL roster ... except one
My favorite time of the offseason. Kempski's dumpster fire series week! Cowboys.
Yeah the LB and S position are thin, as well as anything beyond Devonta and AJ at WR.I tried to do a 53 man but after about 40, I just don't know, it'll be whoever can help on special teams. What I noticed was they are super thin at LB again. They have an over-abundance of CBs. I think Bradberry sticks at safety and they go with 4 (CJGJ, Blankenship, Brown and Bradberry). The offense is pretty much set, except for who wins the starting job at RG.

So I ended up talking to my buddy in the known plus one other person on the Eagles. Nothing earth shattering here but some fun details or some thoughts on what may have happened
—————————————————————
On bill billicheck interest: BB was never an option nor will he. The only team who looked legit on him was ATL. Lurie doesn’t want to give another coach player personel power after the Kelly debaticle. This was just a check in we’re doing our homework. My family in the Boston area said the report came from a guy who Bill pays to get him good PR when he’s needing it and many in Boston feel the dude is a joke. My buddy said teams are also hesistant to sign a coach who hasn’t garnered any success since brady left with the fact brady won a SB elsewhere and bill and NE haven’t come close sicr. Bill also has a of of questions on draft and player movement.
The Cordinators: Jonathan Gannon f’d the eagles Sean desi was only hired because Fangio left thinking Gannon was staying. Sean had zero confidence and the players didn’t respect him more so as he didn’t believe in himself. Brian Johnson was hired as a good hire. From what I was told he became a scapegoat to Nick’s ineptness of playcalling and Brian became the sacrificial lamb. Brian being a team player not wanting to cause issue put all the blame on himself to protect the HC. Kellen Moore from what I was told has a lot more leeway in playcalling sos we’ll see how that goes
Nick: Nick is well liked and players love his energy and enthusiasm. He seems to get along with everyone. One of the key reasons he was brought back was unlike Doug, Nick was willing to listen to constructive criticism from Lurie and Roseman and change Cordinators. Another reason is they felt Nick still gives them the best chance to win. The coaching options out there at the time didn’t excite them. Expect the same fired up Sirianni on the sidelines this year.
Hurts: where there is smoke there’s fire. Hurts was having issues connecting with teammates and like all clutch clients it seems the agents want the players to focus on themselves and their brand. Hurts isn’t like that and it truly effected him last year and the team last year. Nick and hurts relationship wasn’t great as both yrs Nick has had playcalling he’s struggled to use hurts in a correct manner. Things are hopeful to get better with more on play Calling. The non hurts defenders became vocal this past season do to Hurts struggles at the end. Many however on both sides want hurts to be more vocal while on the field and sidelines with the team and stop with the quotes during interviews that half the people thought he was just rambling about nothing. Everyone is behind hurts to have a better year
LB/S: Fangio likes a certain type of player in these positions. Guys they wanted in FA were over their budget aka Justin Simmons. CJGJ was brought back as he was popular with the team and brought a grit and some balls D lacked last year plus leadership on the backend. The team will scour Trade market and potentional cuts and FA as training camp and preseason progresses to see if they can find more depth here.
Rookies: the eagles were ecstatic to get Mitchel and DeJean in here. Both they feel will contribute right away. Shipley is viewed as a CMC type and after seeing what SF did on offense wanted to create some of that. He’s viewed as the future back of the team. Barkley may only be around for 2 yrs depending how quickly Shipley develops. Anius Smith is viewed as a future wR3 return specialist that could be used in a Deebo Samuel role to get him touches like being in the backfield etc. J Hunt they are super excited about. If this kid develops he could be a huge draft day steal in recent memory. Keegan is viewed as a future building block for the OL. Trotter Jr Lurie and co were very happy to make him an Eagle. He fit a need and if he pans out he could be a key contributor. Johnny Wilson I was shocked dropped so far. He’s had drop issues but at 6-6 could be a match up nightmare if he pans out. Could line up at TE, out wide or in the slot. He’s a guy to watch as camp and pre season starts.
Hasson Reddick: throughout asking why this team collapsed Reddick’s name was constantly brought up not trying hard. Eagles wanted to rid him to send a message to others that if they act up they are gone. He was t worth what he asked for and being the most vocal on Desia he dogged it most of the season. Many teams saw the tape and weren’t willing to trade too much for the guy. He’s now in NY with the jets and holding out. Howie Nick and Jeff want to create a good work environment with not many distractions they can prevent. There were others they could’ve let go for same but felt reddick being moved went a bigger stronger, more effective message to the team to shape up or pack your bags.

Justin Simmons is still out there, eventually, his number will have to come down, no?
I don’t put much into practice show me what you can do during a game under pressure.Listening to ESP and Brandon Lee Gowton on 94.1 today.
Both said Hurts has been unbelievable in the first 3 practices. Only had 3 incomplete passes in 3 practices and they've all been drops. It's the best start to a camp they've seen since Carson Wentz in 2017.
ESP said Anias Smith was really struggling and that John Ross has stood out with his speed and is getting some reps with the #1s. Said AJ Brown has been the biggest standout and has caught every pass thrown his way. Said TE Castles has been really good as well.
2022 UDFA who mainly played his first two seasons as a punt returner/special teamer. There's nothing special at WR behind Brown and Smith, so he's got as good a shot as anyone to carve out a role.Who is Britain Covey and does he actually have a chance to be WR3/4 for the Eagles? Apparently the reports from camp were positive.
He was the best punt returner in football last year, but is strictly a back up slot guy only. They aren't going to give him a chance to win it.Who is Britain Covey and does he actually have a chance to be WR3/4 for the Eagles? Apparently the reports from camp were positive.

Early reports are this job will be won by Parris Campbell. If not him, speedster John Ross is next in line.
I would not try to count on anything from Covey as far as FF production.
Not gonna lie, the WR depth in my eyes is a definite concern. But so far the reviews of Campbell at least have been positive. Ross so far has just shown he still is very very fast. Two Giants rejects ... good luck with thatHe was the best punt returner in football last year, but is strictly a back up slot guy only. If we get any sort of real threat/Production out of WR3 it will be a boon. Julio and Watkins were just so so bad last year coupled with the "everyone run a 9 route" style of offense down the stretch, the passing game really really - I hated it.Not gonna lie, the WR depth in my eyes is a definite concern. i think its only a concern if brown or smith go down. but yeah its a big weakness. i doubt covey gets much run. he didnt last season and the position was even thinner than it is now.

Early reports are Devonta getting the CD Lamb role as far as being moved around the formation/into the slot etc.
But I guess my point is we cannot just strictly be so predictable to only pass to 3 guys. Would love to see Campbell and/or Ross finish with 400+ yards.
Unless there's a trade or a significant post-cut down FA signing, it's going to be WR3-by-committee this year.He was the best punt returner in football last year, but is strictly a back up slot guy only. Agreed. Unless there is a big signing, It’s looking like they are gonna platoon Ross, Wilson and Campbell. So you got J Wilson making the team, I assume? Seems like he is making an impact and A Smith....stinking it up. Was hoping he'd be better than what he's shown so far.Agreed.
