Kind of misleading stat if you didn’t watch the Eagles as they usually have a big enough lead they are running in the 4th QTR. he also was pulled I believe after 3 in the Giants game?

They are kind of coming back in a way. Den and LAC use one. The most recognizable to us would be Dal Hunter Luepke.

It ebbs and flows. Defenses adjust to the run, the league goes pass heavy. Defenses have caught up to the pass now and we're seeing a resurgence of heavy running games.

It's nice to have a GM that recognizes ebbs and flows and stays ahead of the curve, and also to be in a division with GMs who don't recognize.

Agree there. Just feel when you already have one of the largest offensive lines in NFL history, it seems like an obvious thing to do with our squad. Some defenses have gone too far though, the Cowboys defense seems like an obvious example. You can't go "light/fast guy everywhere!" bc eventually, the smart OCs or even the average ones with average teams can win b/c the recipe for success like this is literally built into how the game was...built/invented. You just have to be committed, have some sort of receiving threats, and have a good/great defense. The problem is, most teams aren't going to commit to this style in 2024. Even our team, we kinda know in the back of our mind a little "We are winning a lot of games, but this isn't the way jeff wants to win"
Couple that stuff with the impatience of owners, the fact it "doesn't sell"/is boring/etc etc and usually its unexciting - you just don't see it that much these days.
Still though, this team is built to be that way, and when you have a defense *this good* + a running game *this good* - great things can happen!

I think that's one of those stats that sounds more meaningful than it really is. Those top teams (other than Green Bay) all have good defenses, and those bottom teams (other than Houston) all have bad defenses.
Its a lot like those stats you see, where its like, the Titans were 27-2 when Derrick Henry had 25+ carries, but like, that was more because the game script allowed it, more than the actual formula to try and plan for.
I'd honestly argue all of those top-5 teams other than maybe the Steelers should be throwing more than they do. Philly and Detroit for sure, with the weapons they have in the pass game. Conversely, Houston should be throwing less and mixing in a 2nd RB (Pierce?) because their OL is sketchy.

So, in looking at the standings/seeding etc. I think the following is true. Assuming we run the table, which is doubtful but possible, we'd need Detroit to lose 2 more games OR if they only lose 1 game, it would have to be this game tonight since we'd have the common opponent tie breaker. Is that correct? Obviously if we fold one to Pittsburgh or something then this is all a moot point.

This game is a huge one for our #1 seed chances**. While running the table might be tough, it is possible (and lets be real, any team coming into the playoffs on 13 game winning streak is going to be a favorite to be in the Super Bowl). If the Lions lose tonight, we just need the Vikings to lose one more game the rest of the season for us to control our destiny (assuming ya know 13 game winning streak and all lol).
Other than that I'm not sure how the plinko chips are going to fall, just hoping the NFC North beats each other up the last month.

Why would we need the Viking to lose another one. If they won out and we won out, wouldn't we both be 15-2 and we'd own the common opponent tie breaker with us beating the Rams and Minny losing to them?

Yeah i think this is the biggest takeaway. It amazes me how well the Eagles read the league this year going into the draft, and didn't have to trade up for a quality player like Quinyon. Same with DeJean, it is great to be able to think ahead like that and set the draft up for you

I think the first tie breaker after head to head is conference record, but I'm not entirely sure. Just something I saw from a credible source the other day.

Yeah its easy to think about that, but I mean, the problems we had last year compared to this year:
Coaching - From 2 inexperienced guys to Kellen Moore + Vic Fangio
Pass defense: from old and slow and ranked last or near last in the league and having 6 different nickel CBs to adding CJ Gardner Johnson + Cooper Dejean and Quinyon Mitchell. These 2 guys are curently #2 and #4 for DROY odds. Cooper Dejean might already be the best slot CB in the league and no CB has given up less passing yards than Quinyon Mitchell
LB: A dumpster fire last year. Dean is healthy this year, Fangio turned a backup DE/Edge guy into PFF's #1 ranked LB.
DL is still the strength of the defense and they are better conditioned this year.
Add all this up, and yeah, whatever happened last year isn't happening this year. The Eagles are arguably the best team in the league and their remaining schedule, just by win/loss is 3rd easiest. When you look closer some of these teams have really really bad QBs playing right now (Giants/Cowboys) and 4 of the 5 are 28th or worst in run defense. I think this team is going to try to get Saquon the record.

Ball control offense with a great running game and great offensive line + a top 5/10 defense has been a recipe for championships since the NFL was invented. Its built into the game to be able to win this way. Your margin for error is only greater when you have both the #1 running offense, the back is HOF talent and your also happen to have the #1 overall defense. Stopping a high powered passing offense is easier than stopping a dominant offensive line that mauls you all day long.

Since the SB era the team with the leading historic rusher at RB is 14-10 in playoffs. Only one of those teams Terrel Davis and Den won the SB. Emmit Smith won the SB his year but held out the first few weeks.

Desai was not good, but was not terrible. Patricia was an unmitigated disaster. That marginal defense became the worst in the league once they zipped Desai and installed pencil boy.

Nah, it's not over. Detroit could easily drop another with their defense all beat up. Just win and let things fall how they may. If 15-2 is a 2 seed so be it. Wil be even more epic when Philly strolls in and whips them

They almost lost to a 4-8 Chicago team. Their defense is leaking oil right now.
Goff outdoors has a lower QB rating and turns the ball over at twice the clip he does indoor. I think that Chicago game is going to be one where their defense is going to have to play tons better for them to win.
Either way, I think Philly can go to Detroit in the playoffs and beat that team if that's the way the seeding plays out.

Oh I agree. This Eagles team can go anywhere and win. Watching last night I came away with two key points.
- The Lions are really, really good but the Eagles have a (much) better defense. I think if we have to go head to head with them our offense can keep up with them and our defense can hold them down.
- There's a real chance that Green Bay ends up as the 6 seed and play in Detroit in week 2 of the playoffs. Beating a team 3 times in one season is very tough and GB plays them well.

Pretty sure Desai’s numbers were a lot worse than Patricia’s. Desai was one of the worst DC’s in team history. Yes, even worse than Juan Castillo

This is why I don’t even bother with the seeding scenarios. That’s definitely possible.
We just need to be the healthiest we can be regardless of what seed we end up with.

Yeah, it's why I stay out of the "who's the best after X week" threads. I posted in the first one, that the teams that are the healthiest will end up being the best when it matters. I couldn't care less if the Eagles were the best team after week 12, I want them to the best team in the playoffs.

Yep! And Spike and Ike had an interesting conversation about this the other day as well. The general consensus is that this is a “Super Bowl or bust!” now. In order to make the SB, where we’re current seeded would be 8 games. That’s essentially a half of the season and we’re already in “Super Bowl or bust!” mode. There’s just too much time left. Enjoy the games week-to-week and hope for no bad injuries is all we can do now.

The defense under Desai gave up 20 ppg prior to the SF game to teams including the Bills, KC, Dallas, Miami, Minny and TB. After the sf game (under Patricia) they gave up just under 31 ppg against Dallas, NYG twice, Arizona and TB.
Not close, Patricia was waaaaay worse.

I don’t think cherry picking the stats are the way to go. I’ll have to find the older post but Desai was like last in the league over his time as DC in PPG. Patricia was bad but had 5 games and was changing systems, injured players late etc. Desai was the worst DC (maybe what I read had a games limit) in our history I believe.

? How is it cherry picking stats. One guy clearly was the DC for an amount of games and the other guy clearly was the DC when the 1st guy no longer was the DC.
Who cares though, they both suck and are not DCs currently for good reason.
