2024 Philadelphia Eagles - With a tricep held together by duct tape and rubber bands, Brandon Graham added to the SB roster. (87 Viewers)

I keep hearing that Herbert is elite. Jordan Love and Burrow too. Elite, in my opinion, is winning games. There were years that Brady had terrible stats but won games. Jalen hasn't lost a game he's played since week four of this year. That's elite.
Put Hurts on Burrow or Loves teams and he’s probably not even in the post season either. Elite is a guy who with players down can carry a team on their back when needed. Mahomes, Peyton to a degree, Brady can. Burrow is great but more times than not the defense lets him down. Herbert is an interesting player. I think you put him on the Eagles and not only does he have better numbers but he can be that Guy.

Hurts might have more post season wins but does that make him better than Dan Marino though?

i dont want to keep harping on our own QB who is really really good, but let's get real here, that stat isn't possible with the 2023 roster, without Saquon and Fangio. 2024 season belongs to all three equally.
ok. I don't disagree. No QB has an impact on the defense of their own team so sub out Jalen with anyone and our defense is still top notch. But as good as Saquon is, Jalen is a key factor in his record setting year. Defenses have to pay attention to Jalen and it makes everything else click-its one of the reasons Saquon gets like 3.5 yards before contact.. Put it this way, you put Herbert or Burrow back there, our passing game is almost certainly better. But I guarantee our run game is worse-maybe way worse. How did Saquon do after Jalen got injured in Washington? He had a break away TD run and then got stuffed for the rest for the game.

For my money, when we're playing in January and have the possibility of traveling for the NFCCG, I'm rolling with strong defense and a killer rushing attack.
Honestly I don’t think Jalen’s arm is consistent enough where teams shouldn’t be trying to put more defenders on the box. If AJ or Smith beat me deep fine but can Hurts do it a whole game if a team can stop our run? Same with Lamar Jackson. Force them to throw it to the point it’s consistent enough that you have to factor it in more.

burrow is. herbert is one i think is way overhyped.
I agree. My point is, where's Burrow? Where's Herbert? I think Burrow is a killer and pound for pound maybe the best QB in the league. He's got similar/maybe better weapons than Jalen. Why is he in Cabo with a Coco-Loco and Jalen is prepping for a game in mid-January? Is it luck or is it because Jalen actually IS elite, just not in the 6'-5"-rocket arm-slides-up-in-the-pocket stereotypical view that we've all assumed is the only option?
Hurts will probly end up with a better post season record than Marino. You think he’s better than Marino?
Aikman has 3 rings. You think he was an elite QB?
I personally feel that Troy should not be in the hall of fame.
Cmon man

Troy had what 165 passing TDs and 141 interceptions. He benefited more from the players around him.

Well if you are asking me its because their teams arent very good. Burrow has chase, higgins and that one good dlineman. Rest of the team is just guys. No oline. Avg rbs. Defense blows

Chargers have a bunch of players but no wrs outside of 1 rookie. Their rbs are pretty avg to me too. Dline pretty good. Avg to bad oline.

Jalen would struggle mightly on these teams.
I Iove him but just saying.
And this is where I think people have an issue on where to put Hurts. It’s ok to say he’d struggle on these teams. I think Howie and Lurie deserve a ton of credit for figure out who Hurts was early on. A guy who needs better talent around him or he struggles. He’d also Struggle in NE. He’d have issues playing for the Jets and Browns. Probably no different in Dal, Sea. Would have major issues in NYG or Chi.

Teams he’d be better on?honorable mentions GB/WAS/Hou

Buff, KC, Philly, MIA, Det.

Minny is a weird team. Good wrs and avg back and struggling Oline but good defense.
So just so I’m clear, he’d be worse if he was on one of the 5-10 perennial worst teams in the league but good on the 5-6 remaining playoff teams.

And who are all these QBs that excel without talent around them? People act like he’s the only guy with talented wrs.

I will be bitterly disappointed if we do not get PHI @ DET in the NFCCG. This is a game that has been brewing all season and should be an epic one.

As fans, we deserve this game. I was worried it might not happen because of all the injuries to DET, but they are a tough, physical “next-man-up” team and have gotten some key Defensive players back.

I hope we get that match up, but it means the Eagles and Lions have to do the needful and win this weekend.
You're really going to be cheering for Detroit over Washington tomorrow?
The football fan in me wants Eagles @ Detroit. The Eagles fan in me wants Washington @ Eagles.
exactly. But the Eagles fan in you should come first. I'd expect to be +4 @ Detroit and -4 vs Washington. That's an enormous 8 point difference.

@DET we are +2.5 in the early projected line, at one of the books.

3 rings. Three. And he was perfection in all 3. That matters to the voters. Bradshaw and Namath were worse.

I want the best game- not the easiest path.

Steel sharpens steel and all that. I want to see the Eagles play a complete game against, arguably, the best team in the NFL.

Maybe for a casual fan. Let's say we get to pick our super bowl opponent between the Bills and the Browns... I think you'd be the only one here to pick the Bills.

Of course we want the nfcc on our home field against a team we have a better shot at winning a Superbowl.

Casual fan 😂 I didn’t realize you were the gatekeeper of true fandom.

I want them to play the Lions. That game has been brewing all year and needs to happen. As a football fan and a fan of the Eagles- that’s the NFCCG i want to see.

I won’t cry if WAS pulls an upset and we get a home game, instead. But for a lot of reasons, I want the Lions in the NFCCG.

Same thing with KC in the Super Bowl.

Same. I can't imagine my competitiveness and fandom, sitting there cheering for a harder game, on the road, vs a home game vs an easier opponent.

Detroit definitely scares me.

You’re not getting WAS because WAS is not beating Detroit. Dream on. WAS has your cupcake schedule mixed with a defense that Detroit will likely abuse. Unless Jayden Daniels plays his best game of the year, they aren’t even sniffing Detroit.

Jared Verse: “I hate Eagles fans.”

This will get him some attention from the crowd!
This coming from a guy who’s university sl## shamed rape victims to protect the star QB. Free shoes university education kicking in here for Verse.

Jared Verse has been a beast all year. Philly better have every bit the line they’re advertised to have or it’s a long day for Jalen. That is assuming they throw the ball more than ten times. Hwarf.

Don’t worry, rock, you’re gonna have your Eagle hate to keep you warm at least one more week.

That Oline is as good as advertised, maybe the best in the league and a bad matchup for the light, speedy Rams Dline. Unless the Rams get out to an early substantial lead and put Philly in must pass situations, they’ll get worn down with the run game and clock-killing ball control drives.

The only chance Rams have, IMO, is if the loss of Dean causes some sloppy tackling (like last week) and Puka and Higbee start tearing them up. I don’t think Fangio lets that happen. They can play man against the Rams, no problem and double Nacua.

He was virtually non-existent against the birds when they played in week 12. Maybe they rush him up the middle more this game on obvious passing downs? However, if he sticks to the outside he’ll be shut down by (mostly) Mailata and Johnson. This is not your grandma’s Minnesota Oline and Hurts is not a statue like Darnold.

Im a little confused about some of the Hurts talk. While the passing numbers aren't high, the efficiency metrics are good to great. He hasn't HAD to throw, therefore he must not be very good at it seems to be the prevailing idea lately, and that's silly.

Agreed. I would argue that there is no benefit to rolling out a bunch of passing plays to put on film for the upcoming defensive coordinators. The GB scores kind of seems to belie this, but there was never a point in that game where I felt the Eagles were not in complete control. Up 10-0, as soon as they kick a FG to get within 7, Jalen marches down the field and scores a TD. On that drive, they ran Saquon twice, back to back for a total of 7 yards. Then Hurts went deep to Davonta for 28, short to Davonta for 9 and then hit Goedert for a 24 yard TD. When it was needed he used his arm and drove efficiently down the field and scores a TD. Later in the game, GB scores a TD to get within 6 and Jalen leads them on a 7:30 minute drive that ended with points. Again, there was never a feeling that GB was even approaching the possibility of a comeback.

My point is, when a run-heavy attack and strong defensive game plan is working and the game is in complete control, what is the benefit of opening up the playbook and putting a bunch of stuff on film? Honestly, it would not surprise me in the least if we follow a similar gameplan this week against the Rams- lots of clock-eating runs and ball control offense. Let the defense do what it does. If we win and get to play in Detroit, then you'll see the passing game open up for the first time in the playoffs. When it is needed.

If only we had aaron rodgers everything would be perfect!

I do find it funny that for this entire century fans have been screaming to run the ball. Now they are, and very successfully, and now fans scream why doesn't Hurts have big passing numbers? People be crazy.

Its dumb. Enjoy the winning. Going for number 16 on the season. Some teams take years to get 16 wins. Like the crappy *** jets

Eagles had a bad 2nd quarter. Hurts went 0-7 passing.

In the second half they scored on 3 of their 4 drives (not counting the Saquon "no mas").

Did you ever have the feeling that the Eagles were going to lose that game?

I do find it funny that for this entire century fans have been screaming to run the ball. Now they are, and very successfully, and now fans scream why doesn't Hurts have big passing numbers? People be crazy.
The numbers/stats don't mean much. What matters is how the passing game does when they have to pass.

When is that?
3rd and long, behind late in a close game, early downs after a penalty, etc.

I literally gave an example a few posts up. GB scores to get within a TD and Jalen throws for 60+ yards on the subsequent drive and hits Goedert for a TD.

After that opening kick turnover, I knew they were winning. I never had a doubt.

Same

Eagles fans:

If the Rams beat the eagles, the reason would be _________?
Jalen reverts to last year and turns it over multiple times. That’s really the only way I see them losing. And to be clear I mean more than one int. Like 2 and a fumble.

ETA. it’s a stat I’ve repeated many times here but when Jalen is turnover free and AJ Brown plays, the Eagles basically never lose.

3rd and long. How much time is left, what's the score, where are they on the field?

Early downs, same questions. Plus, what was the penalty yardage, what down?

Asking because all that matters.

There was way too many but I'll give you two, both first half, tie game:

3rd and 12, at their own 35
2nd and 20, same place.

Every team has passing downs at some point, although they could run on 2nd and 20.

Fans are stupid. Guys that get paid to write about the game aren’t much better. It’s really the ex-players that know what is up. Not even the coaches in the broadcast booth. They’re awful and make me wonder how much the networks dumb them down or if they’re just that bad. So fans that know really haven’t been screaming to run the ball. I haven’t been screaming to run the ball. It’s only since Fangio figured out how to slow down Mahomes by putting a million defensive backs on the field that teams stopped throwing as much, or they would continue to throw. Defenses play base nickel now and run dime at a serious rate. So, other teams run on it (more this year because it took a few years for these troglos to figure out basic schematics) and the running teams have been successful this year.

But wait until running it down other team’s throat becomes in vogue. Then DCs are just going to substitute a run thumper at off-ball linebacker and have a 220-5 lb. tweener play third linebacker instead of that aforementioned nickel or dime they were just in. You’ll see how important throwing the ball is then. Or you can wait a week until you visit Detroit. They’ll show you. Glll peas.

eta* Hell, McVay is smart. If he’s that smart, he’ll play a base 3-4 or 4-3, whatever it calls for and leave only four DBs on the field. I doubt he’ll do that and you’ll likely seen the tweener Kinchens a lot, but he sure could go with 3 LBs against the Eagles. It’s not like the Eagles have a slot receiver to make them pay for that or anything.

eta2* The more I look at this game, the closer (yes, closer) I think it’s going to be. Everything is adding up against the Rams besides their talent. I hate if it snows for them, but Stafford can handle it. It’s whether the west coast and southern guys can.

Matthew Stafford outdoors in the rain/snow: 1-8 record, 54.6 completion percentage, 14 TDs, 11 INTs
He handles it great

As I said in the game thread, I think Eagles should easily roll in this one. They're much more talented. Especially in the OL. Plus home in cold outdoors vs a team that's been through the emotional wringer the last 2 weeks. Could get ugly for Rams.

You’re not getting WAS because WAS is not beating Detroit. Dream on. WAS has your cupcake schedule mixed with a defense that Detroit will likely abuse. Unless Jayden Daniels plays his best game of the year, they aren’t even sniffing Detroit.
can set a clock to this
