*** 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers: 10-3 going into cross-state battle of PA (6 Viewers)

Whole game was wondering how the Steelers were going to come back and win this game. Last 6 minutes it almost happened.

I’m not going negative. Definitely work to be done but very happy to see life on the offensive side. Defense will rebound. This team is getting better.

Hard to win with all these injuries.

This was a decimated Colts team too. Given the injuries pre-game, I had the Steelers 27 - 13. Running game (Najee in particular) was a disappointment in what should have been a 150+ yards matchup. Defense was a huge letdown, and the “best defense in the league” talk is gone now. Yes, without the fumble this was probably a win, but not in the manner it should have been. Fields made another jump forward, but that is about the only positive I can take from this showing.

I thought once AR went down it better suited how Pittsburgh likes to play defense. Richardson's style of play was obviously bothering the Steelers. Once Flacco came in it gave the Colts fewer options, both running and passing..

ARich was causing them fits early on.

Flacco is a statue so they can tee off better. Either way the protection made TJ irrelevant.

One thing about the Colts OL compared to recent years, they've always been better at run blocking than pass blocking, but so far they seem to be better at pass blocking this year. Only 4 sacks in 4 games, so I'm not surprised by the pass protection in this game.

Defense didn't play well. Offensive line was full of rookies/second year players. 1 healthy RB. Poor decision by Tomlin on the challenge. And they were still in it until the end. Miss timed snap by Frazier was kind of big. Fields had a nice game overall and gave them a chance.
Pickens fumble was a killer.
that fumble was big. Pickens has elite skills, but he makes a lot of mistakes, and I wonder if that is why they dont feed him the ball more. He dropped a TD too yesterday, they ended up scoring a few players later. He needs to step up his game, stop with all the childish stuff, and play big boy football. He is messing around with $20M a year contract potential. He better get his stuff together.

Those bookends were tremendous. Those two guards are also upper tier. It's a top 10 line overall and they proved it again yesterday.

Hats off to Cooter for backing up his words that he had a plan for TJ.

Steelers G James Daniel’s suffered Achilles Tear - out for season.

This line is really banged up, hopefully Seumalo comes back soon
Injuries quickly derailing what was looking to be a season with our arrow pointing up.

Somehow it does look semi-salvageable if Isaac can come back and Jones can reduce his inconsistency but we are not the power running team that was envisioned.

I am off the Najee bus though. I'd like ti hear film analysin on his carries vs Cordarelle's.

It would be interesting to see if there was more stacked boxes or just less efficient on similar looks. He did have a couple nice plays, but it does feel like he has less holes than when Patterson was running. But was that because he didn't hit the available hole, idk. The one play that really sticks out to me was the stretch play where we ran left and Najee had 0 room with tons of defenders and blockers being pushed back into him. Idk that any RB could have done anything with that. Overall, still glad we didn't extend him long term.

Any chance we sign him to a 1-year deal after the season or just let him walk? I assume he won't get as big a contract now, which means lower comp for us. And he might be cheap on a 1-year rental, but might not get back to similar form.

Najee looked slow, but that shouldn't be news to anyone. He needs a crack and a few steps to run downhill with power. Strong RB when he has momentum running North/South.

Still think Warren is better suited for this offense, but he's been injured. When healthy, he can identify the gaps better and explode into them.
CP looked very comfortable plowing through holes Najee couldn't navigate.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the steelers draft a RB next year on day 2 and let Najee walk. Extend Warren or bring in a vet to help the rookie develop.

Najee will demand more than he's worth, so I don't see him as a Steeler in the future.

Yesterday he finished last of all RBs with -2.28 RYOE/ATT, (Rush Yard over Expected per Attempt) while facing only 23% of his runs with an 8 man box. He hasn't had any week yet where he finished with a positive number for that relevant RB stat.

Patterson was CLEARLY better yesterday using the eye-ball test and it wasn't even close.

I had hopes for Najee but with all the OL injuries it's almost as if that part of the game is stacked against him. I do believe that Najee Harris runs hard. But he has a lack of explosive running plays, yards per carry are too low, injury prone, passing game involvement usually isn't there due to Jaylen and now Cordarrelle. Yesterday he had a nice catch for a long gain. But a speed back would have taken that to the house. Steeler's have to let Najee walk unless things change.

Jaylen Warren is not the answer he is the ideal 3rd down back / mix it up back. Cordarrelle Patterson I wasn't high on when they signed him. But Cordarrelle definitely changed my mind. Steelers should use Cordarrelle more once he comes back from his ankle injury.

A huge part of me wishes we still had James Connor. But he was injury prone.

In some of the Pittsburgh threads yesterday. There were some negative Nancy's. Especially pertaining the Steeler's and Justin Fields. Justin Fields looks very promising minus the snap mishaps. He definitely needs to clean that up.

To pile on Najee... after D.Henry ripped off that long TD run on the first play of the game against the Bills, I thought of Harris and how it would have been 2nd and 2 if he were the RB

Knew it wasn't going to happen, but when Arthur Smith got the OC job and Henry was set to be a free agent... I quietly dreamt Omar would make it happen. Wasn't realistic with Najee being a Coach T favorite and Warren here.

The Steelers placed guard James Daniels on the injured reserve list after it was confirmed on Monday that he had suffered a torn Achilles in Week 4’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The Steeles also signed OG Max Scharping to the active 53-man roster from the Washington Commanders’ practice squad.

Also heard that OG Isaac Seumalo was a full participant in today's practice which is welcome news.

Finally there are rumors going around that a trade for Raiders WR Davante Adams could be in the works. I don't believe it but it is fun to think about.

Why is it fun to think about trading for a overpaid WR that is getting to be over the hill..

Would Adams help? Yes, but he isn't making this team a Super Bowl team. I pass for his price.

This is precisely what they should do.

I really wanted them to hang on to him when he walked, cost be damned. Guy is a baller, and has continued to be one. Didnt really care about the injuries then, dont now either.

They'd have been an objectively better team with Conner at RB (even at his price tag) and whomever theyd have drafted in the first that year, rather than Najee over the life of his rookie contract. Maybe not a ton better, but better.

Every time I get to see the Cardinals play I find myself thinking "Man, I really wish he was still a Steeler."

It’s fun to think about because 1) it would make the 2024 team better and 2) it is such an un-Steelerlike thing to do.

Of course all trades must be evaluated by the cost to acquire that player and it is for that reason that it won’t happen. Khan is unlikely to make a lopsided, cap unfriendly move for a short term gain.

Its fun to think about cause he is a big name player, but IMO for what they would have to give up to get him and what they would have to pay him, he is not worth it.

I also don't think he will put us over the top and don't make a difference if we play Buffalo or KC in the playoffs, so to me I would pass.

They haven't been pretty, but are 3-1 and outside that fumble might have won Sunday.. I think they should just ride out what they have and pick a WR in the first 2 rounds of the draft. Watching kids like Nabers and Thomas make me want to have a young stud out of college over a older higher paid player.

Those players are typically top 10 picks, and even if they trade for Adams they should still draft a WR. Realistically he is on a 1 year contract.

The prices being thrown around for Adams are too high, you are underestimating his impact. He would make this team a contender.

Generally agree.

Prices being bandied about are too steep, but to pretend he wouldnt bring an added dimension to this limited offense is being willfully obtuse, at best.

"Contender" may be debateable, I suppose, but there is zero real argument he wouldn't instantly rachet up the efficiency of their current offense, if healthy.

No one in the AFC looks like a world beater right now, Watt/Heyward's time is running out, their QB room costs a dollar fifty at the moment, and if the Steelers could even manage "mediocre" on offense for the next 4 months they may be able to make some noise if their D stayed healthy. Adams is the kind of guy they should be looking at in that scenario.

Khan isnt going to pay the current rumored freight though, so it probably doesnt matter.

Doug Whaley was on the Fan today and apparently Wilson's agent and PR People contacted or are going to contact the Steelers FO about trading Wilson.

I have said, if Steelers are smart, they need to move Wilson for a 2nd/3rd tier WR.. Some team will pay for him.

I wouldn't move him at all. He's a fantastic backup at a minimum salary. If you have serious playoff aspirations, why throw away excellent depth at the most important position?

It depends on what they would get, of course. But I don't see them getting anything worth that kind of security. And if/when Fields falters, he can step right in. I'd keep him.

If this is remotely true, it underlines the problem with Wilson. It is better for him, personally, to NOT be a backup? Absolutely. But he also isn't considered the best teammate and this doesn't help one bit IMO.

He came to be the starter. If he isn't the starter, I don't have an issue with him asking for a trade.

Backup QB is pretty valuable, but he is on a 1 year contract. If you can get a good return you need to take it. His return could maybe be flipped for Adams.

He can ask all he wants and if I’m the Steelers I try to accommodate him (we want volunteers not hostages). That said, you gotta get something in return

I agree. The only issue I will have with him is if he demands to be traded to only 1 team killing his value.

If Russ WANTS traded, that would confirm that Pitt is limiting his practice participation just to keep him behind Fields as the starter. If that’s the case, I couldn’t blame him.

AB has spoken.

So, it's not going to happen.

(But if it does I hope it's before they play the raiders and I hope he helps the Steelers win the game)

giving up future draft capital for what is likely a 1 year rental is a slim chance for Pittsburgh to make this move. Probably talking a 6th or 7th at the most. likely a late round pick swap.

more important, does Adams want to play in Pittsburgh? haven't seen that reported specifically. deal is off unless he says he wants to play for the black n gold.

my $ is on the jets. hopefully the edgar allen poe image he posted was just for laughs. would SUCK to see him play for the rat birds.

:towelwave: Arthur Smith with Fields at the helm is coming along nicely. Feels like Justin is trending towards earning Steelers franchise QB status.

Amazing to see TD numbers improving despite massive injuries to the OL and shaky RB production.

Dallas Cowboys haven't won the Superbowl since 1995 when Barry Switzer won with Jimmy J's guys. 2 franchise QB's who didn't and currently can't push them over the top. Romo and Prescott got paid an insane amount of money. I agree it's kind of crazy. Plus, there last Superbowl was won by Neil O. I still joke that Neil deserved the MVP award.

I hear the term franchise QB thrown around a lot, but don't you need to win some big games to merit the name? Perhaps a Super Bowl win even?

Or is every starter that gets a 2nd contract a franchise QB?

Great question and I stole this of the of CoPilot

A franchise quarterback in the NFL is a player who is considered the cornerstone of a team’s offense and is expected to lead the team for many years. Here are some key characteristics that define a franchise QB:
  1. Consistency: They consistently perform at a high level, avoiding extreme fluctuations in their performance.
  2. Talent: They possess the physical and mental skills necessary to succeed, including arm strength, accuracy, and decision-making.
  3. Leadership: They exhibit strong leadership qualities, inspiring and guiding their teammates both on and off the field.
  4. Football Intelligence: They have a deep understanding of the game, including reading defenses and making quick, effective decisions.
A franchise quarterback is someone the team builds around, with the expectation of achieving long-term success, including playoff appearances and potential Super Bowl victories2

Time to start talking about Roman Wilson being a wasted pick? Wasn’t listed on the injury report this week, but inactive again. Meanwhile, a practice squad WR gets a helmet tonight.
