*** 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers: 6-2 going into the bye (9 Viewers)

If Aiyuk is with the team and attending team meetings, I am certain he is going to stay with SF.. I wonder now how serious a move to Pittsburgh or any other team was.
I will be pretty surprised if he isn't a Steeler. I have never been able to see the 49'ers paying him 30 million_ per year. I don't think they can make it work with their roster, and it would probably generate some unrest in their locker room. If they don't at this point, the Steelers seem like the only option. Their seems to be a framework for a deal that Aiyuk likes. The 9'ers aren't happy with the return, but something is better than nothing, which is where they are now.

Rapoport:

Update on Brandon Aiyuk:
-- The Steelers and #49ers have a deal on a potential trade and PIT is in a good place on an Aiyuk contract, sources say. If SF gives the final sign-off, it's done.
-- SF has an offer out to Aiyuk on a long-term deal for him to stay. He hasn't accepted.

Feels more real this time with a legit NFL reporter on it. Though some of the twitter reporters were staking their claim that they knew first.

Hope it becomes real today. Also, if he gets hurt in pre-season after we trade for him I'll be twice as bummed.

On the record as saying how much I hate this and still holding out faint hope something messes the deal up.

I got a lot of issues with the trade but none bigger then committing picks and a large chunk of cap space to a WR when they don't have a QB under contract the next season and typically will be picking late and it's not regarded as an overly strong QB class anyway.

Got a lot of respect for the job Khan has done since taking over, A+ IMO, but this seems out of character for the entire organization from the top down and I can only hope they've gamed out a plan behind all of this past panicking because Van Jefferson is your current #2.

The offensive line play is going to have to be a whole lot better for a trade to make sense.

I am not convinced that it will be so I hope it falls through

Hope we get to find out. Not only having another receiving weapon but WR who takes pride in the running game is special.

Shout out from CMC "On my touchdown run, Brandon Aiyuk de-cleated a dude kept running , cat didn't even break stride..." Christian McCaffrey
He did that after catching 2 TD earlier in the game. There is another clip where BA engages then pancakes Queen on a run play vs Baltimore.

I think everyone is underestimating the effect of having an actually OC will have on everyone, but especially the line. It is way harder to do your job when the D knows exactly what you are about to run.

Arthur Smith Jr. and Matt Canada have distinct approaches as offensive coordinators, and their differences are quite notable.

Matt Canada:

Arthur Smith Jr.:

Overall, Arthur Smith Jr. is expected to bring a more conventional and potentially more effective offensive scheme to the Steelers, focusing on leveraging the strengths of the team’s personnel and reducing the predictability that plagued Canada’s tenure.

Are you excited about the changes Smith is bringing to the Steelers’ offense?

That is not really a very good description of his scheme. I would prefer a much more passing oriented attack, but Smith designs an interesting running attack and uses it along with play action to push the ball down the field. I expect Russ t keep the job all year, but if Fields were to be QB, I think he could really take the O to a new level.

JT O'Sullivan QB School breakdown of Justin Fields first PS game as a Steeler. film breakdown
I didn't realize how lazy Pickens was on some of those negative plays. Didn't expect that to show up studying QB play. Guy was getting annoyed with #14.

Thought JF did well other than those 2 fumbles (hard to tell what went wrong). The one incompletion he had looked like a catch. Didn't get challenged. Promising start.

Can JuJu still be an effective 2A WR -- possession or underneath type guy, with Pickens and Van and Austin being more vertical guys?
He is better than what they have by miles, but still not much of an addition. They really need a WR who can get separation. This was never a strength for Juju
I would very much argue JuJu isn't miles better than anyone anymore. He's put nothing decent on tape in 4 years, other than when he had a 1st ballot HOFer throwing him the ball, and even then, it was just decent. Would much rather bet on Roman Wilson (or Austin I guess) developing quickly than JuJu suddenly having good knees and playing like its 2020 again.

Man, behind this line.. Wilson is probably hoping Fields beats him out.
Nothing about this 1st quarter suggests Wilson should be starting. At least Fields can escape.

The love affair with Austin is weird.. The guy does nothing special. He doesn't run good routes, is hardly open, and on his punt returns shows he now lacks speed. I think right now, he is probably a 4th or 5th WR. I would still take JuJu over him.

Russ is a statue. If this is any indication, big trouble.

I've watched parts of 5 or 6 different games, and the local TV announcers for preseason are always painful.

These two guys doing this game are the best, by a country mile. Who are they?

Bob Pompeani and Charlie Batch, I think.
I was just thinking about this wishing football was like baseball and they had Pomp and Batch doing all of the Steeler games.
That would be AWESOME
Instead we'll probably get Adam Amin and Mark Sanchez week 1
:sadbanana:

I agree Fields is the one to start behind this line, but don't expect much. He has his own host of issues with playing the position but he can at least run a bit. Wilson is a statue who can't pass over the middle, and will just dump off or take a sack all season long.

Wilson, LOL, what more can one say? This is who he is.
Fields just brings more to the offense. That 20-yard run and that tight window throw to Miller, was more impressive than anything Wilson showed.
Yep Russ is toast.
Might just be seeing what I want to see, but I thought it was interesting they brought Fields in for the 2-minute drill. Kind of a "this is where we wanna see how he reacts under pressure" idea.

Wilson certainly wouldn't have run for 20 yards. It may be ugly either way, but at least Fields can actually move

I mean, counting the sacks Wilson in almost 2 quarters produced the same PASSING yardage as Fields did in under 2 minutes.

ETA: If Wilson can't be confidently counted on to be the better passer, this should be an easy decision for Tomlin.

If Justin Fields somehow ends up starter, Mike Tomlin will have his first losing record as a Head Coach.

With that said, I believe in Russell Wilson. He was best in Seattle when they had a run game, something he didn't have in Denver last year, plus he knows this is his last hurrah.

By the way, how stupid is Justin Fields' haircut?!?!

PS: Not a Steelers fan but like the way your franchise handles its business.
