*** 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers: Steelers acquire WR Mike Williams & OLB Preston Smith (12 Viewers)

This has probably been the most pathetic offensive performance I’ve ever seen and that’s saying something after last season.

350+ yards passing to the Cowboys in a game where CeeDee was, essentially, controlled? Rico Dowdle with near 100 and over 4 ypc on the ground? Still not able to get stops on third downs?

Bad run D. Dinosaur offensive philosophy. This team sure feels like theyre "pretty much who I thought they were" right now.

The OL got hammered, and then the backfield followed.

Blaming Fields and Smith for that makes no sense.

We know that Najee is not Henry and that Fields is not Lamar but with our D we always can contest.
We have the Raiders and the Giants next. Figure out what our offense actually is.

I’d certainly want to give Russ a run at it. I’m ready to pay Fields a solid check but I want some lead by example Russ until such time we decide we need to go harder for a franchise QB

Pay Fields? You crazy.. What has he shown.. He played poor last night.. He easily could have had 4 turnovers.

His decision making is very suspect. He has looked like he lost a step running.. For what he wants, I would not touch him. In fact, steelers really need to rebuild their offense in the draft.

They had one nice pass to Najee in the first half that was telegraphed by Fields. Other than that, they pretty much did nothing on the ground or through the air all game. Now a potential serious injury to Herbig and suddenly the D is in trouble. Baltimore back to looking like a world beater. Ugh

I will also add, it don't matter who they have as QB as long as they have the mismanagement king walking the sideline.. The NFL has ran its course with Tomlin. I just don't understand why he or the Steelers front office can't see this. He continues to put the team at a disadvantage with his poor coaching.

Our high priced defense has let us down 2 games in a row. Aside from Watt I don’t think they’re very good.

I love watt, but he disappears late in games it seems.. Doesn't take away from how great of a player he is, but last night he was nowhere on the Dallas GW drive.

Monday morning ramblings.

With the injuries to the O-Line, Warren, and even Russ, we never got to see the intended offense this season, and never will. Which sucks. We desperately need a WR2. They spent too much time on Aiyuk. Not sure what is up with Roman Wilson either -- didn't love that pick at the time.

The D is good, but they then give up dumb plays with bad communication or missed assignments. Watt is held virtually every play too. Without a true slot CB, Watt being held, and no Highsmith, the D isn't as consistent as it should be. I am still not sure about Queen either.

This was a game they should have won though. I fell asleep after the Muth TD, and then woke up and saw the Steelers with the ball with 17 seconds on the clock and losing -- I was like WTF did I miss!?!?

The next two weeks are must win basically, and then hope Sutton comes back and is his old self at the slot.

Najee either needs MORE carries to be effective, or is really a complimentary back and we desperately miss Warren.

Maybe getting Warren and Russ back at the same time, and another week for Seumalo to get in shape will make a difference. Give Roman a helmet too and see what happens. Russ won't win with his legs, but maybe he will make better decisions in some instances and have better touch on the deep balls. Use Fields in some packages too.

Both Russ and Fields are “see it, throw it” type QBs. Neither have great anticipation, and behind this line, you HAVE TO have that. I don’t think many QBs would do well with a line like this, a running game that is this weak, and a defense that is no longer playing dominant football.

I hate to ever agree with Collinsworth, but Fields throwing bullets and not getting air under the ball definitely cost the team a few big plays last night -- probably a TD to Washington if a little more air and distance.

That was a depleted D missing an all pro and you come out on national TV with that gameplan? The early 3rd and 8 call deep in Dallas territory set the tone for what was to come. The designed roll outs to simplify the game for Fields were non existent for some reason. You would think they could feed off the momentum built by the offense in the 2nd half of the Indy loss, only to mail in some regurgitated game plan Tomlin has had pinned on his billboard since the Matt Canada days. Someone tell Tomlin it's okay to have 3 TO's saved in close games since you might actually need them.

If not for Dak's horrible lapses in decision making, the game would never have been close.

Anyone explain why Jefferson had 47 snaps and Pickens 34?

Are "managing reps" or "keeping him fresh" going to be the new Tomlin catch phrases?

Pickens is a problem
How so? He wasn’t on the field enough last night to do anything wrong

Almost got in a fight post-game. Cowboys corner called him weak. Tomlin explained his snap monitoring as an effort to get higher quality play when he is in the game. So either there was some discipline going on, or they think he is being lazy on certain plays or he has stamina issues.

He was called weak by Lewis because that's what he showed on the field of play. I'm sure some of his teammates would concur, but not publicly.....yet.

But the postgame situation had nothing to do with him being on the field and I'd add the CB only called him weak because of how upset he was getting rag dolled by Pickens when he tried to get up in his face. Put this way, if that interaction does not happen with Pickens after the game he's not walking into the lockeroom spouting that about Pickens so to me it's not relative to anything other then him being sore about getting facemasked and tossed down. I'll just add that while Pickens went to strong in his reaction that he was not the instigator, that was they guy spouting about Pickens being weak.

Whatever went sour with PIckens had to have happened during the week leading up to last night. I mentioned in his thread we don't know what went down but there is no shortage of stuff it could be but the message on his face tape and usage was a pretty big indicator he went into the game with some kind of issue.

Anyway it's all a problem right now and life is going to be super tough on whoever is the QB.

I think Pickens is losing snaps because he often dogs it when he doesn’t expect to get the ball. He is great with the ball in his hands, but he isn’t dedicated to the blocking game, nor does he put forth a lot of effort on decoy routes.

Post game did not influence him playing far less snaps than Jefferson and Austin during the game.

This fact is well documented and has shown up on film several times. At the very least give it your all on the field for your teammates no matter your lack of targets.

Or maybe being shut down by Lewis to the tune of 3 catches for 26 yards. I would be calling him weak as well after that performance.
On something like 18 routes run
20 routes compared to 25 run by his two teammates, so it wasn't that much of a discrepancy

Maybe put forth some more effort on the field even when the ball is not coming your way. Coaches benched him for a reason.

Fields needs better touch which at this point he will never get but there were massive drops last night. I’m ok with him at QB over Wilson

Yeah I'd probably recant that overall but the injuries on offense took what was a pretty thin margin and evaporated it.

What is our other plan?

Agree - he ain't great at times - last night was bad but how much is he asking - and/or what would some other team pay?

They do have a couple nice looking matchups coming, but I’m no longer a believer. Thought the D would be our savior after the first 3 weeks, but they’ve looked very average since then.

Offense is better than last year, but still isn't good and has probably outperformed the last couple games before Dallas. Mostly on the OL revolving door and weak run game outside Fields running the ball.

Biggest difference in the Dallas game was the passing game tried to force it through Van Jefferson instead of Pickens. That's a flippin mystery. I swear if it's something dumb like "Let's see how desperate we are for a #2 when Pickens is limited." Then the coaches sink the leaky ship by limiting our best player. Dumb! Get the ball into your playmaker's hands. And the answer is "YES" by the way. Having Aiyuk or Adams instead of Van Jefferson WOULD HAVE BEEN ENOUGH TO WIN THIS GAME.

Yes, but the attitude that lead to his post-game antics may have shown in other areas this week (and weeks past) that influenced the snaps.

Good breakdown of Pickens' snaps by formation/personnel here.

Essentially, he only was in on 10% of heavy sets/personnel, and we went heavy a lot.

So maybe nothing to really see here, other than in previous weeks, he played in more of those sets, and he seemed to swap with Austin against Dallas as far as percentages go in heavy.

what is up with Roman Wilson?? Seeing people saying he is healthy, but Steelers are refusing to play him.

My guess is he has zero special teams value and has not shown to be better than Jefferson or Austin on offense.
They said today on the FAN, They expect him to be CA 2.0, When Austin got hurt and missed camp, he was out all year.. Tomlin I guess don't like playing rookies without a full camp.

He only ran a route on 65% of Fields dropbacks.

Considering his talent level vs the other WR’s if this was purely a plan and not something going on then it’s coaching malpractice.

But in light of the message he chose to put on his face tape I find it impossible to think there was not an issue going on between him and the team before the game.
