2024 Song Draft - There's a girl over there, AI, A, A, A, A, AI / With long brown hair (12 Viewers)

I've always said this was the best music draft of the year but it's now become one of the only ones since we've seemingly moved on to ranked countdowns

I'll participate - I missed the mid-year draft so I may repeat some songs since I'm lazy.

Also my musical taste is a little different than most in this thread which could be a good thing or a not so good thing for the playlist.

I've also have always been more of an "album" guy v. a "song" guy. Do we ever do year end album drafts or rankings?

NV used to tabulate this before that account was permabanned. I think it had reached the point of diminishing returns because of small sample sizes there were so few participants in the end.

As we enter the 25th year of the century, this seems like a good year for a 21st century album draft (sung like 21st century schizoid man).

Sad to hear about that permaban. Hope an alias is around to participate—-I thought he had one at some point.

And I’m all in for a 21st century album draft.

And for this ‘24 song draft—likely not for 20 rounds though.

Without the whole tabulation/countdown thing, I guess we could just do a “list your top 10 (or whatever) 2024 albums” thread. Seems a lot easier. Something like that would probably be better after this draft, though, since I assume there would be a decent amount of artist overlap.

I'm here to listen to new stuff, please do cover the whole year.

Any song released anytime during the year is eligible
but Groovus.. keep in mind most of us probably won't redraft anything from the mid year draft, so definitely check that out too.
link please?

Thanks for the tag—I do appreciate being thought of—but I’m again afraid I’ve gone the no new stuff route this year.

1. As If Waltz — Geordie Greep

Warning before you listen: The lyrics are a little weird. A theme of this album is desperation and the character in this song is desperate for a prostitute in a brothel to love him back. As the listener, Geordie wants you to be a little repulsed but also have some pity for the character. It's also supposed to be funny. All these emotions really add to the enjoyment of the song for me.

Sorry, not sorry for the length of this song. I hope you don't check out before the killer outro! 👨‍🍳 💋

Some of you may recall me picking the band black midi in MAD 2. Greep was the frontman for that band and wrote about "80%" of their music on their three albums. I knew he'd eventually end the band to do his own thing creatively but I didn't know it would be so soon. He is my favorite artist of this generation and, at 25 years old, I feel like he's just getting started!

Day 1 - Counting down with #20 of my Top 20 for the year 2024.

The Lemon Twigs - My Golden Years

My favorite retro 60's/70's band.

This has been described as The Byrds "My Back Pages" meets "Pet Sounds" era Beach Boys.

The Lemon Twigs are an American rock band from Long Island, New York, fronted by brothers Brian and Michael D'Addario.

This year's WXPN's annual top 885 of the "...." countdown was song of the century. It was a fun week+ follow:
