2024 Team Defense & Defense by Committee Thread (12 Viewers)

I somehow am locked into playoff spots in both my leagues.

So now carrying two defenses in both after picking up Philly off the wire yesterday.

Buffalo/Philly
Minnesota/Philly

I think these two combos should be able to carry me to the promised land.
I have BUF and weeks 16 and 17 are juicy.

Trying to pick up PHI in the morning as they were just dropped.

Two good fantasy and real life Ds.

Something to keep an eye on.

SFO @ BUF I've seen the hype around this being some sort of Snow-Mageddon game... and while I'm not ruling that out, I think we should all pump the breaks a bit. It will be cold, that's a lock, temps in the upper 20s. Winds look to be around 10mph sustained, gusting maybe to 20-25mph (those numbers could change in either direction), and as of now models aren't showing any significant snow Sunday night... I'd expect a some snow showers, not a white-out. I'll update as the picture becomes more clear.

Houston was dropped for Dallas in my league. I know Pitre is out for a few weeks but they have Jacksonville this week and then a bye. I could start them over Minnesota this week.

Anyone still trotting Pittsburgh out there? Someone just dropped them in one of my leagues. Don’t need them but could make a space to block an opponent from picking them up if worth it.

Have a choice between Chiefs (Panthers) or Cowboys (Giants). Thoughts?
I'm trying to decide that myself. Chiefs just haven't been putting up points, even though this should be an awesome matchup.

Chiefs were trying to lose to the Panthers at home last week. They'll try to lose to the Raiders at home on Black Friday.

Charles Omenihu should be back this week, that should help. With Minshew hurt I believe AOC is going to start for LV. Mattison was LP today and Zamir White is still out so they're non-existent run game is in bad shape.

Is MN or KC D worth a 3rd round pick in 2027? Playoff contender with NYJ and CHI D .. nothing on waiver wire (14 team league)

Anyone considering the Seahawks?

Were stellar vs the Cardinals last week. On the road, but the NYJ have failed to score 20 5x and gained <300 7x.

Over the last 4 Weeks, Seattle is DT5 in our format. We account for yards allowed, 3 n Outs forced, 4th down stops and TFL, in addition to all the standard scoring settings with respect to Points Allowed, FR, INT and Sacks.
I came in this thread this morning to see if there was any mention of the Seahawks. I just picked them up and plan to start versus the Jets.

Have Dallas and Buffalo.

If Lock playing strike one against Dallas.

Want to see if Purdy throws more than one pass today in practice prior to Dallas/NYG kickoff. If no, and weather situation worsening, think I have to go Buffalo.

My only concern would be Rodgers can still be very good. Jets have been bad, but would people be surprised if he played well? Maybe that ship has sailed, but he claims to be healthy and hasn't thrown a pick in 4 games. Just food for thought

Jets don’t play on Thanksgiving… fyi

Damn. My bad. Corrected. Have no idea why I had that in my brain other then I ain't as young as I used to be. Ha ha

Bengals DST hasn’t performed well vs strong opponents, but they’ve come through as expected vs weaker teams. After Pittsburgh, they get @DAL, @TEN, CLE, DEN.

Fighting for their playoff lives, the Bengals could jump out to big leads in some of these, leading to perfect game scripts for their DST as their opponents weak offenses are forced to rely on the passing game.

I waffled a lot this week, slotting in TB, picking up and dropping the Cowboys (oops!), but this post weighed heavily on my mind and after doing my homework, I now have the Bills and Eagles as my two DSTs.

Whether Purdy plays gimpy or sits, the Bills look like a smash against a SF without Trent Williams. If Purdy plays, I expect a pick or two from that bad shoulder.

With the Bills/Eagles combo, you get two top tier DSTs with good matchups except for week 15 when you have to play the Eagles against Pittsburgh, but even that matchup should have a floor that won’t lose your week. Give me that combo over trusting a mediocre to bad DST with good matchups RoS. There are a lot of apealing options on the waiver for the final stretch like Indy, TB, Seattle, and Cincy, but this is where I’ve settled for now.

My plan is as follows:

1) Keep BUF for weeks 16 (NE), 17 (NYJ)
2) Hold PHI just in case they prove to be dominant no matter what the matchup (and I think they'd do fine week 15 vs. PIT).
3) Grap AZ, BALT, NYJ, DAL who all have good matchups week 15.

For you Denver riders, who you grabbing for their bye week (14)? New Orleans (at Giants), or Jacksonville (at Tenn) looks appealing.

If you had Buffalo on the wire, would you grab even though they had the Rams next week? Rams seem like a team to avoid streaming against.

Have held Minn and the Chargers most of the year. Struggling with this week. Vikings are home vs AZ and Chargers are @ Atlanta. Leaning Chargers as I think they can put a ton of pressure on Cousins and his lack of mobility. Any other thoughts?

Seattle worked out OK, DT4 in our format (tbf another WW DT, the NYJ, were DT3 in the losing cause):

Week 13 - Fantasy Points Breakdown
StatPts PerFan Pts
Sack212
Interception122
Fumble Recovery122
Touchdown166
Block Kick122
Points Allowed 21-27 points100
4th Down Stops212
Tackles for Loss40.251
Defensive Yards Allowed 200-299111
Three and Outs Forced20.51
Total Points19

I also cut the Chargers 15 minutes before kickoff to stash another RB lotto ticket - they ended up DT1 for the week in our format.

Fumble Recovery020

The Steelers, despite giving up 32 points and 375 yards, still scored 17.50, good for DT7 with 2 g to play. Glad I hung onto them for next week's rematch with Jameis.

Dynasty ....

I have started Tampa last two weeks and have Bears and Jets D ... I am a championship contender ..

Would anyone give up a future 3rd round rookie pick (almost worthless in our league) for either MN or KC ... if so which one?

KC - vs LAC, @ Cle, vs Hou, @ Pit

MN - vs ATL, vs CHI, @ Sea, vs GB

I am leaning MN .. thoughts?

Philly D looked great, but the Panthers have been playing up to their competition in scrappy games. Not gonna have much better on the wire at this point though. Hoping some playoff-hopefuls with D/ST's on bye drop so I can scoop, as I've got my spot secured.

There is astronomical difference between Philly's defense v. KC/TB Def. I wouldn't worry about CAR v. PHI. Their are only a few teams that would worry me and one of them was Baltimore. PHI dominated them outside that late BS drive that was blatant stat padding.

As far as this week, I think Minny is a strong start. Throw out the season stats for Ds facing Atlanta. Cousins has clearly looked off the past few weeks.

Unless you're in a league that locks in playoff rosters, I wouldn't necessarily count on one set-and-forget DST for the playoffs. I just don't think the schedule plays out that way. I would recommend continue streaming and try to think one week ahead if you can spare an extra roster spot

Options for this week:
  • NO @ NYG -- Giants giving up lots of sacks no matter who's playing QB
  • Tenn vs Jax -- Mac Jones show
  • TB vs LV -- People have been circling TB's matchups for the past few weeks, but I'm starting to have my doubts, both about the strength of their D and how good the matchup is. They've had a couple spike weeks throughout the year but have mostly been mediocre. And LV looked competent vs KC
Longer-term options to stash for the playoffs:
  • Arizona (SEA/NE/CAR/LAR): They've been solid the past few weeks, particularly in terms of getting sacks
  • Atlanta (@Min, @LV, NYG, @Was): They looked suprirsingly good against LAC this past week, and they do have good matchups the first two weeks of the playoffs, but not sure I trust them
  • LAR (Buf, @SF, @ NYJ, ARI): Opposite of the Falcons. Good D that has crapped the bed the past two weeks (Eagles is excusable, Saints less so). And you obviously can't use them this week. But they also have good matchups the first two weeks of the playoffs

I've already clinched a playoff spot, so I'm thinking more long-term. Probably targeting Arizona because they have an OK matchup this week and some good ones in the playoffs.

Other question is whether you hold Denver. They've been great all year, but pick-sixes notwithstanding, the way they got torched by Jameis last night was a little disconcerting. Playoff matchups aren't great, either (Ind/@LAC/@Cin). I'm trying to hold where I can, but in my main money league I'm going to prioritize putting in a claim for Guerendo over rostering a second D, even though I'd only be picking him up to block my opponents

There's no way I start TB. A. O'Connell is decent, LV ran the ball well, and Bowers could go for 2 TDs against that D.

I've got DET in my local, but their defense is beat up. Facing the Pack this week. Not a must-win situation, but a win gets me a bye in Week 15. Playing the team who currently sits in 2nd place (and would have the bye if they beat me).

I can stick with DET and just let it roll, or grab any of the following (and I can still hang on to DET, potentially).

TEN vs JAX
TB vs LVR
NYG vs NOS
ARI vs SEA

Thinking TEN, otherwise I may just stick with DET. Thoughts?

Looking at

TB vs LV
TEN vs JAX
JAX vs TEN
ATL vs MIN
NYJ vs MIA
CHI vs SF
CIN vs DAL

I really hate when both defenses in the same game are rated as good options, just never seems like it plays out, so having to pick a side in TEN/JAX is tough...

I grabbed Arizona last week anticipating I'd need to win week 14 and maybe 15, but things fell in my favor so i should have a bye.

I'm now planning to drop them for Buffalo, although I think they're still a pretty good play the next few weeks. But hey, roster spot is more valuable to me now.
